Can Final Cut Express 4 export videos into iDVD '06?

Hello cp115,
Sorry for the unrelated question, but I am going to buy FCE 4 and was wondering if I could export videos made there into iDVD '06? I am assuming so.
Christoph

An educated guess is that it will work. But I'd like you to confirm this prior to purchasing with apple directly (pre sales questions).

  • Need help editing and exporting using Final Cut Express - why does video end up with judder?!!

I've imported material from my JVC HD Camera and have edited a 52 minute sequence on Final Cut Express. I've exported it as a Quicktime Movie and it's 43GB. How do I get this on to DVD?
I've tried using iDVD to export but as you can imagine, the quality is not great. There's a judder on it. I have no idea where to start with using applications like MPEG Streamclip to convert the clip so that when it does get on to DVD, it doesn't judder. Can anyone help? This is driving me insane!!

I've exported it as a Quicktime Movie and it's 43GB. How do I get this on to DVD?
First step - just use this export as the import into iDVD.  iDVD will take care of the necessary encoding to fit it on a DVD disk.  The file size is of no concern; the only concern is the length (in time) of the video ... iDVD can fit about 2 hours of video on single layer DVD media; about 4 hours on dual-layer DVD media.
Regarding the judder, this is not specifically an iDVD issue. Do you see the judder when you play the video  in the FCE Canvas window?

  • Final cut express HD Importing Video files

I've been trying to import quick time video files I have on my computer they were taken with a kodak easyshare camera model Z812IS. It was easy to import into the mac but when I try to import the files into Final Cut the icons are greyed out! Is there a way that I can convert the files so they are compatable? Will Final cut express 4 solve the problem? The fact is I have other video files on my mac that import just fine. I'm stumped hope you can help!

Try opening one in QuickTime Pro, and exporting them as DV files from there.

  • Final Cut Express HD Export Problems

I have a project that I recently edited in final cut express hd and i'm having trouble exporting it to any kind of format without creating artifacting and stepping all over the image. The movie is only around eleven minutes long. I need to get this project to dvd for my actors. I have tried exporting using compressor, quicktime conversion, and just doing a quicktime movie, but i can't get a good quality .mov file or .avi file. I want to make the movie in either one of these formats to i can burn it to dvd and save it to an external and then delete the project file so i can clear room for other projects. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of the artifacting and stepping in my image? I would really appreciate it.

I made a quicktime movie and not a quicktime conversion and used that file in idvd to burn a dvd. That is the best result i've gotten so far but it is still less than satisfactory. I get significant artifacting in black and white areas as well as dark scenes. I have been watching my exported products directly on the display, i didn't think to watch it on my ntsc playback monitor. But whenever I burn a copy to dvd and watch it on a standard tv, the artifacting is still there, some formats have less, some have more. I am printing to video through my little consumer grade canon video camera. I would like to be able to create a .mov fil so that i don't have to worry when i delete the project file. Any more suggestions? I appreciate all the help.

  • Final Cut Express HD Export Quality

I'm using Final Cut Express HD, I'm shooting in HD, and when I edit it's HD. I know it won't be HD when I export, but it's a major drop in quality, even lower than SD.
I've mostly just tried "Export to Quicktime Movie" and it creates a large movie file with a really low resolution.
    Does anyone have any hints?

If you're exporting the video from FCE, and the play back looks correct in the QuickTime player set to high quality playback then there is nothing you can do in FCE to improve it.
I have a similar situation where I exported from FCE using the "Export to QuickTime Movie" option and thought the quality was quite poor. However, I was not aware of the Pref to play back in high quality.
My question is what does FCE use for this setting ?MPEG4, H.264? or am I misunderstanding this completely? Thank you.

  • Final Cut Express 4 export

I am pretty frusturated because I have scoured the internet for answers so far, I was wondering if anyone could help.
I am doing a video using my Canon Rebel T2i, and editing in Final Cut Express HD 4
I import the footage, and convert the footage in MPEG Streamclip to the following settings:
    Apple Intermediate Codec
    100% quality
    1920x1080 unscaled
I then put the footage into Final Cut Express, and everything looks great in the viewer etc.
When I go to export, I use the following settings as many sites have said to do.
    H.264
    Best Quality
    Automatic Frame Rate
    Automatic Bit Rate
    No Filters
    1920x1080
    Deinterlace Source Video Checked
With these settings, the export looks really grainy etc. compared to the imported AIC files.
If anyone could help, that would be great!

Have you tried to not use the "Using Quicktime Conversion" and just the "Quicktime Movie"?

  • Final Cut Pro X Exported Video Size

I've recently bought Final Cut Pro X and use it for editing videos before uploading to YouTube.  I used to export my videos from iMovie as a .mov file to my hard drive to then manually upload to YouTube.  There doesn't seem to be this option in Final Cut, so I've taken to using the YouTube share feature but it never uploads so I just manually upload the .mov file that it saves somewhere in the Final Cut shared files folder.
The problem I have is that I export a 720P file so assumed that the video size would be 1280 x 720, it always was with iMove.  I've found that Final Cut spits out the video at 1248 x 702 and this is quite annoying as it sometimes cuts off the top and bottom of a video.  Is there any reason why it does this or any way to get it to export at the correct display size?

How can I change the size? Normally I export at 720P in iMovie and the video and format are both 1280 x 720.  I did a screencast using Quicktime and due to the change in display size it's chopped off the toolbar at the top and a small portion of the dock.  I've had to resize the clip in Final Cut to 95% of the original size to get it to fit in the 1248 x 702 size that it chooses to put it in.
As this was only a screencast the file size tends to be this small, but normally I shoot at full HD on my camcorder and the video can be about 10 mins in length.  I used the export media function and the resulting file was about 8GB in size!  iMovie would typically give me a .mov file anywhere between 700MB - 1.5GB depedning on the length of the video and that suited me fine, but there doesn't seem to be any way to get it that small using the Export Media.  Not much of a problem really coz I'm fine using the YouTube share option to get what I want.

  • Can Final Cut Express 4 and Canon ZR60

I'm new to the whole video experience and would appreciate some advice. I have a Canon ZR60 with a Mini DV tape. Before I purchase the software, I'd like to know if Final Cut Express 4 can process video taken with this camera or do I need to get a video camera that shoots HD?
    Thanks, Stan

    Hi
And You need to buy a 4-pin to 6-pin (or FW-800) FireWire Cable to connect.
Neither Your Camera or FCE/Mac can Import/Capture Your movie via USB/USB2 AT ALL.
This Cable is as I know of never supplied from start - has to be bought as extra.

  • Final Cut Express changes the video aspect

    Hello.
I imported some videoes from m Sony-sr32 HandyCam with iMovie 08. The videos were captured in a wide screen format, and iMovie shows them in wide screen.
However, when I import the movie files to Final Cut Express it plays them in a normal 4:3 aspect. The video seems o be distorted (narrowed).
Why is that, and how can i Change that?
    Thanks!

You have to check the anamorphic column in the Browser or in item properties to tell FCE the material is anamorphic.

  • Final Cut Express 4 - Creating Video in portrait orientation

I'm just curious if there is any way to set the resolution of a video I'm creating in Final Cut Express for a display in portrait mode (turned so its tall instead of wide ie 720 x 1280). Assuming you can only use included presets does that mean I'd need Final Cut Studio?
If nothing else I can just fake it by making the text/images all sideways and then rotate the screen without changing the resolution settings.
    thanks!

As far as I know (which isn't all that distant) it is not possible to do as you wish.
However, you can fake it by cropping a normal image to give an upright rectangle but the result would be the same as using a "portrait" still photo.

  • Can Final Cut Express open Final Cut Pro files?

I am wishing to edit a Final Cut Pro file that is saved to a hard drive, but I olny have Final Cut Express. Will I be able to open the Pro file with Final Cut EXpress? If not, is there any way I could open the file?

I did this, as instructed, but when I got home to see if my FCE would open the file, it didn't even recognize it as a standard file. When I tried to force it, it just brought up an error message. I do have all the related media files on my drive. Anything I'm missing here? Thanks so much!

  • Can Final Cut Express edit Final Cut Pro files

I have some Final Cut Pro files that I created while working for someone else, if I buy Final Cut Express, will I be able to open and edit them?
There basic files, nothing real fancy if that matters...
    Thanks!

Officially no. It may work, but you're rolling the dice. The newer the version of FCP the less likely it is to work.

  • Final Cut Express Edit = TOO BIG for iDVD - Why?

I am trying to import my 16:46 edited wedding video into iDVD, but it is far too big to fit on 1 DVD.
The edited version is 16:46 minutes [in Final Cut Express], but when I convert it to a quick time movie [to import to iDVD] it ends up being 14 GB and 271 minutes [and I have tried various conversion types]. I don't understand this?
THE ONL THING I THINK IT COULD BE IS:
I have a lot of "extra duration" in Final Cut Express that I did NOT cut off. Would that affect the size of my video?
If that is my problem...Is there an efficient way to get rid of all the extra duration?
    Thanks...Keep Seeking and SMILING:O)

You mean you left 254 minutes of empty space at the end? Yeah, that would do it.
FCE doesn't know to cut off anything that you don't tell it to. If you have a lot of "dead" space, it's probably because you left a small clip somewhere at the end of all that space. Try going back to your sequence in FCE, positioning the playhead over your intended ending, tap "T" four times, and click. This should select everything after the playhead, which you can then delete.*
*this shortcut may be for FCP only, I'm not sure. Anyone?

  • Final Cut Pro X exports video clip as black

    Hi Everyone,
I have a big problem, I'm trying to export a project with many HD clips, the first of which is the only one being shot as AVCHD on a Sony DSLR and converted to .mov by Voltaic HD because otherwise I can't import it in Final Cut Pro X. The rest of the clips are directly imported from another camera, no conversion.
The first clip (the one I had to convert) plays and gets edited fine within FCPX, but after I export the whole project, all the part that had that clip is just black picture with no sound. My titles, photos in the meantime are still there, but otherwise all black until the next clips show up.
The sources clips are hd1080p but I'm trying to export the project as 720p. My FCPX version is 10.0.9. I've edited videos from the same source and conversion before and never had this problem.
So now I just took the same single clip into a new project and exported it at 720p and there it just works fine ... Arrrghh!! How can I fix this?

I am having an almost identical problem:
Trying to export (doesn’t matter to what: Master File, Apple Device, etc. all lead to the same result) the project I am working on is producing a black screen with no audio (for the length of the project) – only the start and end titles get rendered.
The project plays fine in FCP X 10.0.9; the initial screen on the export dialog produces a correct looking screenshot (with both the picture and title visible), and predicts realistic sizes for the export file, which ends up being tiny by comparison.
Other projects with a similar workflow are exporting fine: basically I have shot a couple of concerts, and each project is one song with start and end credits and some color correction, stabilization, etc.
The source was 1080P video from a Canon SLR 5D Mark III, and it is being exported to 1080P -- however, I don't think that's relevant, because video from the same source to the same export files worked fine before - FCP X can obviously handle the format involved.
I tried deleting the FCP X preferences -- didn’t help. I had already tried deleting the render files.
    Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

  • Final Cut X not importing videos into event

    Hi,
Im having an issue with final cut x where videos aren't being imported into an event. I have tried using the import option and dragging and dropping the files. The files are mp4 which I've never had an issue with importing before. The program was working just fine a few minutes before this happened. Any solutions or reasoning behind this?
