Can Final Cut Express files be transfered to Final Cut Pro?

Obviously the outputed quicktime file can be transfered, but I'm asking about the whole timeline.
I'm sort of guessing that they can't because it's not mentioned anywhere.

You mean can an FCE project be opened in FCP? It depends on the versions of the applications. FCE3.5 projects can be opening in most recent versions of FCP.

Can't transfer photo files from old iBook to Mac Pro

When I travel, I upload my photos using a card reader onto my iBook (1.2Hz, 762 RAM). At home, when I try to transfer them to my Mac Pro Quad (2.66Hz, 3Gb RAM) the transfer always starts OK (a number of files transfer) but then stalls out on a particular file. If I go back to my iBook and remove the "stalled" file, then try the transfer, it starts OK and then stalls on a new file, further "down the list".
So I basically can't transfer the files. Curiously, I have tried transfering the files from my iBook to a CF card and the same thing happens, so it seems the issue is with the iBook. Why would it be an issue only in one direction, ie, no problem uploading the files onto the iBook from my CF card reader? Could this be a memory issue? Any thoughts or suggestions?? Thanks.

I suspect a bad HD in your iBook. Pretty much anything that involved stalling and HDs means that.

As long as you are behind a router, you don't need to have your firewall turned on at all, in fact it probably slows your computer and/or internet connection down a bit. The only time you need it is to either protect yourself against intrusion from others on your local network or if you hook your computer directly to a cable / DSL modem. If the error message is “files cannot be read” then this is usually a problem with the destination at the right of the destination import panel.
If the issue is something different than not being able to import then please give a more detailed description.

Hello - tried to upgrade to Lion (software all up to date) could not carry out as disk corrupt - tried to fix using disk utility, no luck, tried through install discs, noluck, screen went grey, went through all the troubleshooting steps advised - could get hard drive button up but wouldn't launch - took the last troubleshooting step (before wiping hard drive) and transferred data to MacBook Pro - all fine except for iPhotos - comes up as "locked volume" - have been through all the trouble shooting steps to all read/write access - file info says I have read/write access- any ideas - otherwise I have lost a bucket load of photos :-(

Can't open Raw files after transferring CS5 to my new computer

I just transferred cs5 to my new imac computer using my time machine backup. I now get a "photoshop does not recognize this file type" when I try to open a raw file from photoshop. When I try to open my raw files through bridge I get the message "you do not have permission to open the document. I have checked my permission preferences and have reading and writing permissions and updated to 6.7 ACR. I dont know what to do next?

I have an imac OSX 10.8.2. So is the application folder the correct location for the CS5 folder? There is a lot of unclear information about this out on the web.
Everything I loaded today has a CS5.1 name to it. I assumed that it was an updated version from my original CS5? If I click on the CS5 folder located in my user file it opens photoshop (probally means its not uninstalled... hum). I cant access it through utilities/adobe installers/uninstall CS5. So maybe I should do the Script cleaner like you mentioned? Or maybe CS5 and CS5.1 are the same program like you mentioned?
When I follow the path to camera raw you mentioned I get to a photoshop raw "pop up" but ACR doesnt open up. Are you asking for me to locate the Camera Raw plug in folder or look for multiples of the file inside my plugins folder? Their isnt a ACR file in my CS5 file that I found in my user folder or the CS5.1 file in my applications folder. Where would I typically find it? Im having a hard time finding it at all.
Im on my 2nd day of troubleshooting and Ive read so many articles and help threads. Ive had a call back order requested from adobe... Im still waiting 3 hours later. Im afraid they might just reject my request for help since I dont have CS6. You have by far been the best help Ive found. Thank you very much! If you can think of anything else to resolve this please let me know. Im so frusterated at this point... trying to be positive though, Im learning alot.

Can't open iMovie file after transferring files to another Mac. folder lock

Using Migration assistant I transferred files from Mac to Mac, I can't open an iMovie file because it says, folder locked, permission incorrect, or disk full. I have plenty of memory, tried to change the permissions in the INFO window under file to read and write, thinking I did, and it still doesn't open.
It still says read only. I am a new user on this computer.
I used disk utility to correct permissions. Seems like there must be a simple answer, something I am missing. Help. Thanks, Marjorie

Can't open video files when transferred to external hard drive, but can preview them?

I'm trying to clean up the disk space on my Mac because I have too many HD files. However, when I copied them onto my external hard drive, and tried to open them there, I can't. However, I can "preview" the files. Is it safe to erase my hard disk? Or has something gone wrong?

iMovie will only recognize drives that are formatted as Mac OS Extended (journaled), not FAT32. This is because of an architectural limitation of FAT32 which does not allow files sizes of 4GB or larger. Video can quickly reach this size.
You can either get a new drive and format it, or you can reformat your current drive. If you reformat your current drive, it will erase all data that is currently on it. Shout out if you need detailed instructions for the reformatting.

The Time Machine application is in your Applications folder. It is not part of Migration Assistant. From what you have described you have restored files incorrectly such that they retain the permissions from the prior system. You cannot access files or folders you do not own hence the red circled minus signs. Pondini has a recommendation for restoring files from another machine's backup, Item 17, I believe.
The Home folder you restored is one you must log into in order to access its content. To do that you must know the account's login password.

Where can I find the files to upgrade Acrobat 9.0 pro to 9.5.5?

I have to re-install Acrobat 9.0 Pro and have the files to do that but I need to find the upgrade files to get to 9.5.5. The Adobe website no longer lists them and Chat says they don't support 9.0 any longer. This is hardly customer friendly.

Thanks for the link. There are, however, several files in each directory for each version. I presume I can ignore the ones for "extended" but how do I know which of the others to use.
For example, in the 9.1 directory there are three .msp files in addition to the one for "extended."

I created a Collection and added my file to that Collection.
Then File/Organizer Select the Collection. Then Select the File.
Shift/Ctrl/1 then gets me to the Organizer. There I can get the Collection and then File.
Or File/Organizer and select it from there.
I couldn't find a shortcut that would take me there is fewer steps.

I can't download ANY file with Safari 5.1

The problem I have is the following:
Safari 5.1 can't download ANY file. I have a Macbook pro running on 10.7.2
I think the problem started after upgrading to Lion. The only way I manage to download files is "right clicking" the file and selecting the download button from there. I can't do this with all of the downloads because lots of internet downloads redirects users to another page which says, for example, "your download will start in a few seconds" and with the problem I have, it never starts. The page remains like it's loading but I leave it there for a while and download don't start.
I tried with Chrome and the problem is there as well.

Forgive me in case this is obvious to you, but since you say you just upgraded to lion, it may apply.
When you download the only indication you get is a blue progress line in the small down arrow download icon on the top/right side of the Safari window, next to the Search box. Click on that and you'll see a list of recent downloads assuming it's working.
I assume you've used Finder to look in your Downloads folder for the files already.

Can you open a Final Cut Pro project file (6.0.6) in Final Cut Express (v4)

I am working on a project in Final Cut Pro (v 6.0.6) and I need to pass it off to a colleague who only has Final Cut Express (v 4). The media in the project is DVNTSC.
I went to the Apple store at the Stonestown Mall in San Francisco today and they assured me that my colleague would be able to open my FCP project file in his FCE program... but I'm skeptical.
Can you really open a FCP project file in FCE?
Could somebody who has both confirm this for me?

Under very rare circumstances can you open an FCP project in FCE. It almost never works and is not supported by Apple.
