Can Firefox be installed using AD / GPO?

I work in a school and need to install Firefox in several labs. Each lab has about 40 computers. I do install software using AD / GPO's.
Is there a firefox msi that I could use?

hello magslam, mozilla doesn't make any .msi packages of firefox available directly. but when you google for it, there seem to be third-party providers not connected to mozilla like www.frontmotion.com/Firefox/download_firefox.htm which offer those packages...

Can Firefox Hello be used for three or more way calling or is it only for person to person?

hello again, i've asked in the development channel for firefox hello about this issue: multiparty video-conferencing is on the long-term roadmap but it might still take a lot of engineering (firefox hello is based on the webrtc standard which is a peer-to-peer protocol between two machines only - multiparty calls might be a rather tricky thing to figure out on this basis)

No, sorry. Firefox is available only for Nokia Maemo phones (now) and Google Android phones (soon).

hi Pasquell31, at the moment firefox hello can only be used for a direct conversation between two people.

  • Can Firefox be installed on mobile device Nokia E63?

I own a mobile device Nokia E63. Please inform if Firefox can be installed on it. That's all there is to it.

The Nokia E63 uses Symbian so no.

  • Can't re-install using original discs

Am trying to re-install original discs on Power Mac G4. It will accept Disc 1, but when I insert Disc 2
it asks for the password, which I type in. All I can get is a big question mark. It will not continue.

So, if I have the picture you've installed OS X on a drive using the original discs that came with the computer. You did this by Erase and Install so the drive had nothing on it? Exactly when did Disc 2 come into the picture? Assuming the DVD version of Leopard there is no need for Disc 2 unless you are installing pre-bundled software or extended printer drivers. If you were installing pre-bundled software maybe one of the installers requires a serial number rather than a password?
In any event there is no circumstance where a password is needed within the installation process. Until the installation is completed and you have gone through the Setup Assistant there would be no account hence no account password admin or otherwise. So I'm at a loss as to what you are doing.

  • Can my brother install & use my CS5, while I continue with Creative Cloud?

    Hi,
I subscribed to the Cloud for a year, with a reduction because of my CS5 package.
I don't use any CS5 anymore. Am I allowed to pass it on?
    Thanks

    Hi David,
Not sure if that doc is relevant here.
It discusses transferring or selling earlier perpetually licensed versions which have been upgraded to later version perpetually licensed versions. Answer: no because upgrades are still counted as being on the same license as the earlier version.
However, this question relates to joining the Cloud at a discounted rate due to owning a qualifying perpetually licensed version.
My understanding is that, as a Cloud member, you're free to transfer/sell your perpetually licensed version even if you used it to get the first 12 months Cloud membership at a discounted rate.
In other words, there's no connection between Cloud membership and a perpetually licensed product other than getting a discount on the first 12 month of Cloud membership.

I am using Firefox 3.6.8. Oddly, my problem appeared a few hours PRIOR to Firefox automatically installing the latest updates (the week ending 7/23), not afterwards. The problem is this: the browser continues to display tabs, the reload/home/history/favorites icons, URL field and Google search field while in full-screen mode, so it's not really full-screen anymore. How can I correct this?

Do you have that problem when running in the Firefox SafeMode?

  • I can't uninstall/install FireFox due to a pop-up that says: Your computer must be restarted to complete a previous upgrade of Firefox..."

This problem arose when I attempted to upgrade my existing FireFox browser to the new FireFox 7. I clicked through the auto-update, but didn't think that anything changed, as the browser didn't look like the image in the feature explanation image I was viewing. I then tried to download Firefox 7, and when I tried to instal it, this process began.
I can't uninstall/install FireFox due to a pop-up that says: Your computer must be restarted to complete a previous upgrade of Firefox..." When restarted and attempted again, the same pop up appears and I am stuck in an infinite loop.
I cannot locate the Mozilla file within my program files to try and delete cantankerous upgrade components, which seems to resolve this issue for many people. See: https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/796566
I also tried completely deleting Firefox, which didn't work either-- I ended up doing a system restore, only to be met with the same infinite loop.
Now, when I click on the Mozilla icon, nothing happens. No window opens, no error message, nothing.
Why can't I find the Mozilla folder in my Programs File but can see it in Control Panel "Add or Remove Programs" (though I can't uninstal due to infinite loop)?

It is probably because you are not properly closing Firefox. Restarting your system would make sure that Firefox had terminated, but you do not have to do that.
To properly close Firefox on Windows systems, use
:File > Exit or "Firefox:" button > Exit
When you get the message "Firefox is already running" it is too late, and you must force termination of Firefox through the Windows Task Manager before restarting Firefox. Windows 7 has a keyboard shortcut to save you a step "Ctrl+Shift+Esc" then on "Processes" tab, select "firefox.exe" and use the "End Process" button. More thorough would be to right-click on the "firefox.exec" and choose "End Process Tree".
You would find firefox.exe in a Mozilla folder in your program files, but y0u would not want to delete it there, you would need to use the Control Panel which you have already identified and do it from there -- but generally you would not need to do that, and there is nothing in what you have posted to indicate that you should. But if you did do that, then don't let the install start Firefox for you as you would want to use you existing desktop icon or method of starting Firefox, and should decline having Firefox install start Firefox for you. When the install starts then invoke Firefox in your normal manner. This should eliminate problems of creating a new profile rather than using your old profile.

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the disk image (dmg) file to the desktop

  • Can I install Reader via GPO

    Hello,
I've got an organisation (about 100 PC's/Laptop) that has multiple versions of the Reader software, going back to 8.1.0.  I'd like to get everybody up to the same version, but the quantity (and geographic locations) of machines means that's all I'd do.  I've recently started using GPO to install some software, so my questions are:
Is it possible to install Reader via GPO.
If it is possible do the users need administrative privileges to the machine or can the they be normal users?
    Thanks in advance
    Tony

See this document for some information on Adobe Reader deployment: http://www.adobe.com/content/dam/Adobe/en/devnet/reader/pdfs/deploying_reader9.pdf (sorry, I don't know if there is a new document specific for Adobe Reader X).
Also, you can download MSI installers

  • Use Nexus Personal ("BankID") with Firefox without installing it

I will describe how to utilize Nexus Personal as a plugin for Firefox without installing the package from AUR or running the installation script that comes with the program.
And why would I do that? Firstly; the root partition on the system that I use has very limited space. If the files that are used for Nexus Personal are located elsewhere (like my home folder, on another harddrive) it will free up some valuable space. Secondly; to keep an record of the procedure. If I ever must repeat the process I can check back at this reference. Thirdly; upgrading should be trivial and just a matter of copying the new version of the program to a certain folder. Lastly; maybe someone else might also benefit from this.
Download and unpack the files and place the folder where you want the program to be (e.g. /home/kalle/Applications/nexus/)¹. Make sure that the files persadm and personal.bin have permission to be executed.
Let Firefox know where the plugin is located by creating a symbolic link in the Firefox plugins folder to the file libplugins.so by running the command sudo ln -s /home/kalle/Applications/nexus/libplugins.so /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libplugins.so
Copy the shell script² personal.sh to folder /usr/local/bin/ by running the command: sudo cp /home/kalle/Applications/nexus/personal.sh /usr/local/bin/personal.³
Now, open the copy with a text editor and change the two lines to point at the program folder (this should be obvious).
Make a symbolic link to the program folder in /usr/local/lib/ with the command: sudo ln -s /home/kalle/Applications/nexus/ /usr/local/lib/personal
Open the file /etc/ld.so.conf in a text editor and add a line with the path of the program folder⁴. Finally, run the command sudo ldconfig.⁵
Once you start Firefox the plugin should be recognized and operational (hopefully).
    For those who don't know:
Nexus Personal, or "BankID", is a proprietary program that can be used as a method for personal identification, and is used on the websites of various Swedish authorities, banks, etc.
I'm not sure if this is the appropriate place to be writing this, but I couldn't think of any other.
    Clarifications:
¹: where "kalle" should be your username. You can put the program folder with the extracted files wherever you want, though. /home/kalle/Applications/nexus/ is just a mere example.
²: located among the extracted files.
³: notice the slight difference in the name (the copy should not have an extension).
⁴: the line should contain just "/home/kalle/Applications/nexus/"
⁵: this seems to be required to do in order to make the plugin find its required libraries that comes with the program.
    General tips for troubleshooting:
Invoking the command ldd can be used to check if the plugin executables has their required libraries set up correctly.
In Firefox you can also write about:plugins in the address bar in order to see if the browser is following the symbolic link that is located in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/.

  • Can I un-install IE after installing Firefox?

I run Windows XP with IE 8.0. I got Firefox, and it worked better than IE right from the start. After a few months the Windows slowed to a crawl or locked up, using 100% of CPU and over 1 gb of memory. I got a second gb of memory, and the locking up stopped, but performance is still poor. When I start Firefox and start Task Manager a bunch of Internet Explorer tasks start up using tons of memory and CPU resources. Can I un-install IE and use just Firefox?

As FredMcD says, IE is tied into Windows. It is a good idea to have a second browser, anyway, in case something goes wrong with your Firefox.
A bit of housekeeping will help. Your System Details shown above show related plug-ins -
    TotalRecipeSearch and My Web Search
You would be better off without both of these. Google for information and removal advice.
Your Shockwave Flash is also well out of date.

  • I inadvertently deleted and emptied the trash bin on Firefox. I have a MAC OSX-VERSION 10.4.11. How can I re-install the latest version of Firefox that is COMPUTER FRIENDLY for the MAC OSX Version 10.4.11? I appreciate any help.

I inadvertently deleted Firefox and emptied the trash bin. I believe it was version 3.5. I have a MAC OSX 10.4.11. After several futile attemps how can I re-install the latest version of Firefox compatible to my MAC system? Thanks!

As of Firefox 4.0 and newer the Firefox builds from Mozilla requires both Mac OSX 10.'''5'''+ and a Intel.
Either you can use 3.6.19 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
Though for you 3.6.18 will be safe also as 3.6.19 was to workaround a font crashing issue on 10.7 Lion that was not fixed in time on Lion before release. http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/3.6.18/mac/ and pick your language and download the Firefox 3.6.18.dmg
