Can Firefox Sync be set up between two Mac computers, both with Firefox v36, but not running on the same OS X versions?

I have a MacPro desktop (10.8.4) and MacBook laptop (OS 10.6.8). Both have the latest version of Firefox (v36). I've noticed some of the add-ons for one is not available for the other. How will Firefox Sync handle this? Can Firefox Sync be safely set up?
Thank you,
no1uno

'''''"To give one example, one of the add-ons in the laptop is 'SEO for Firefox 3.6.4'. It seems this add-on is not available for (or compatible with?) the more recent OS of the MacPro. How would Firefox Sync handle this? "'''''
I don't even see an extension by that name at the official Add-ons website - AMO. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/
If you installed that extension from anywhere except for AMO I would expect Sync to just ignore it.
''I have at least a half-a-dozen extensions that don't get sync'd, because they aren't available from AMO - they were installed from the author's own websites.''
As far as how Sync would handle versions of the same extension, but for different operating systems or OS versions - I would like to see an example of such an extension, that is the exact same extension ''[but maybe different version numbers]'' that is hosted at AMO.
Also, Sync doesn't actually "synchronize" extensions, it "installs" the same extension that is "noted" as being installed on one device, and installs those same extensions on the other devices that don't have the same extensions.
And that creates another problem ''[IMO]'', the preferences don't get "sync'd" '''''if''''' an extension isn't specifically made to be compatible with Sync. There is no "standard" at AMO for add-on extension authors to "tell" users that their extension is specifically compatible with Sync, as far as synchronizing preferences and "data" is concerned.
One example is - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/greasemonkey/ - '''yes''' it is Sync-compatible and the GM scripts do synchronize, but the AMO page says nothing about that "feature" being available. Also, Adblock Plus is partially compatible - but only as far as the Filter subscriptions are concerned, none of the user created "custom" filters are synchronized.

• How do I Sync my itunes music between two different computers

Can anyone tell me the step-by-step instructions for how to Sync my itunes music between two different computer.... one Mac at work and a second at home. I want to bring over all my work music onto my home Mac, some of which is the same but much of it is different.

Are you able to connect the two computers in any way? For instance is the work computer a laptop that you can bring home and network with your personal one? If the two devices are connected in some away there are a few utilities that can help you sync iTunes across different computers. You could begin your research by having a look at these for instance:
TuneRanger
SuperSync

I run Firefox with at least twenty tabs open at the same time. All versions of Firefox newer than version 22 ) load the tabs MUCH more slowly ( approx 2 mins rather than merely 15 secs). HELP!!

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

Also check your security software.
You can use the Network tab (the one at the right in the menu) in the Web Console (Firefox/Tools > Web Developer;Ctrl+Shift+K) to check the server response (left-click an entry) see if that is the problem (reload via Ctrl+F5 to bypass the cache).

• Sync podcasts on iPhone between two macs

Just a simple question hopefully.
I have a iphone, a mac at work and a mac at home. I listen to a lot of podcasts and have subscribed to quite a few of them on my home mac.
is there anyway I can sync my iphone between the two macs so I can download new episodes to the iphone, no matter what mac I am on?
I thought about doing it manually, but was wondering if there is an easier way of doing it?
Would like to have it also keep track of where I am at on my podcasts, when I am done and so forth.
Thanks.

• Sync Just certain files between two macs

I have the wonderful problem of owning two Powebooks. I use each machine, depending on where I happen to be located, to write in my MacJournal program and/or my MacGourmet cookbook.
How can I keep the two programs inSync? I may be adding material to the one machine during the week and then use the second machine at home on the weekend. Is there a way to Sync them so both machines reflect the total new input? I have no desire to sync all the other things like AppleWorks, FileMaker or Quicken files. Am I asking for too much?
Thanks,

Thanks for the help. I've downloaded the trial version and will study the manual for awhile. I'm trying to decide whether or not I can work on both computers and then sync them at a later time, such as working at home on one computer, working on the other while at work, and THEN somehow syncing both computers with the COMBINED changes. That seems a bit like expecting magic. I suppose I'll have to NOT work on the second computer file until I've synced from the first.
Still looking for magic?

• Two iTunes set up for two different iPods both with one library......

Okay I have had an iPod mini for about two years I already have my library set up yada yada yada...
Today my brother got an iPod Nano. I went through the setup process because I thought that you needed to have two seperate libraries if you had two seperate iPods, but after it had setup I realized that both of the iTunes accounts had my library on each....
What do I do? Can he upload my music onto his Nano or yeah I am not sure...Thanks for all of your help.

the music in a single library can be downloaded to two different ipods. (mauve and attractive beast both connect to the same library.)

• Can I sync iphoto library between two Mac's?

I have two Macs (an iMac and a Macbook Pro) and want to sync the iPhoto (6.0.6) library between the two so whenever I change one the other is updated. I thought about using iDisk but my library is apx 5gb. I am new to Macs- is there a utility built into OSX 10.4.9 or hopefully some freeware or very-cheap ware... preferably automated. Thank you very much.

brettjbyers
No you cannot sync an iPhoto library between two macs. If you do you will corrupt the iPhoto Library file. iPhoto is a consumer level app, and this feature is not supported.
What you can do is share the photos but not the library. Each machine will need to have it's own library file.
The easiest way to do it this is to enable sharing (in the iPhoto Preferences) on both machines (one sharing the library, the other looking for the share). When you do this the shared library will appear in the Source (or left-hand) pane and pics can be dragged from that to the library in the other machine.

• Sync folders between two Macs

Howdy,
I want Mail on two of my Macs to be in sync. I have a lot of rules set up and once the rules are applied the mail is sorted in local folders so it disappears from the inbox. This of course causes it to no longer be available on the other Mac.
Looking for an application that can sync files I select between two Macs whenever a change is detected on either of them, in this case my Mail folder and peferences. This can go directly or through an OS X server that's running 24/7. I don't want to move my folders to the mailserver but keep them local.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

I've had a Macbook Pro for about a year and a half and love it so much that this Christmas I decided to buy myself a second Mac. I got a refurbished 24 inch iMac and just set it up last night. During the setup it occurred to me that there are certain folders on both computers (documents, pictures, audio, downloads, etc) that I would like to have available and synchronized between both computers. I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd like to do this. Does this functionality exist in Snow Leopard?
no. not unless you want to use a command line tool like rsync.
If not, are there any 3rd party apps that will solve my problem?
you can use Chronosync or ForkLift. also, you can sync not directly between computers but via a cloud. there are many services that do that. there is apple's own mobileme. another very popular one is DropBox.

• FRM: 10270 Cannot attach the library when two forms run at the same time

I get the error message FRM: 10270 Cannot attach the library SYSLIB while opening menu BMENU but only when i try to open a second form while the first form is still running.
Both forms are working fine as long as they ar not running at the same time.
It seems like the second form opening does not have access to the FORMS60_PATH, because you can not open a third form because it can't find it.
All the forms anf libraries (plx)is in the FORMS60_PATH.
I am running developer_6i forms & reports on a HPUX 11i machine and I am trying to access them through jinitiator 1.3.1.9 on a XP machine.
Best regards
Macke

Thanks a lot for the tip. I used truss and realised that it found the library but was not allowed to open it. The kernel parameter maxfiles was set to low.
I increased it and everything works ok

• Can Lion server keep my photos in sync between two macs?

can Lion server keep my photos in sync between two macs? Where should I keep them, we have Aperture 3 and my wife still likes iphoto '11. I've already tried plenty of 3rd party solutions with little success. I simply want my MBP to "mirror" the imac with the exception of iMovie footage. Is this what the server app can do? I am bad enough with computers, but even thinking about a server gives me migraines!
