Can flash do math?

I'm trying to create a simple 'quiz' with 7 questions, each
worth 0 or 10 or 20 points. Each time a person hits "yes" they
would get points. If they hit "no" they would get zero points. Is
there a way for flash to add up all the points and give a total
score at the end? I'm using Flash 8 on a mac.

yes, of course.. Read the Math class... flash can do more
complicated math than you can even comprehend, probably.

Newbie Question: Can Flash do this?

I would like to make some movies (whatever format would load
the quickest on a website and produce the smallest file size) that
show the stroke order and formation of Chinese characters.
The viewer would see something like an animated GIF that
shows the character being formed on the screen
Can Flash be used in conjunction with a Wacom Tablet (or
mouse, for that matter) to do this? If so, how would I do this--I'm
a total newbie with Flash.
If it can't can anyone suggest a program that could do this??
I have the Adobe Master Collection, so I have access to all the

Flash can do it, but not quite the way you're approaching it,
I think. I would start with the complete character on the stage and
use a series of animated masks to reveal the strokes in sequence,
to make them 'appear' like they are being drawn.
There are some other ways to go about this as well, but this
would be the simplest by far.

Can Flash do true vector graphics?

I created a drawing in Flash with the pen tool and paint
bucket. Some of the drawing I may have used the line segment tool
and connected the points. Other parts of the drawing I may have
started with a circle, added points, and strecthed parts to make my
desired shape. I exported the file to an .eps format.
I want a drawing to be transcribed to a T-shirt.
Unfortunately the two shops I've worked with know CorelDraw
and not Flash. One lady knows Illustrator and I have also
exported to an .ai format for Illustrator. However when
they open those formats of my drawings come as individual
vectors with outlines around each piece. They said they would have
redraw the artwork in CorelDraw at a major expense. Can Flash do
true vector graphics such that a drawing of a figure, for example,
with many different colors so that the exported .eps or .ai file is
a true vector graphic and not all in pieces? Or should I go with
Illustrator CS3? I have used both programs and most of the drawing
tools and methods seem to be the same, does Illustrator create true
vector graphics?

While your code might be correctly written, a 1009 error is not about incorrect code. The 1009 error indicates that one of the objects being targeted by your code is out of scope. This could mean that the object....
- is declared but not instantiated
- doesn't have an instance name (or the instance name is mispelled)
- does not exist in the frame where that code is trying to talk to it
- is animated into place but is not assigned instance names in every keyframe for it
- is one of two or more consecutive keyframes of the same objects with no name assigned in the preceding frame(s).
If you go into your Publish Settings Flash section and select the option to Permit debugging, your error message should have a line number following the frame number which will help you isolate which object is involved.

Can Flash be used as the GUI for an application

Can Flash be used as the GUI for an application (desktop software, not web based) written for the .NET framework? I want to author an application that would be perfect for flash as a the GUI, but it would need to be able to support a pretty full API for Flash and the wrapper application, written in c#, as they would be passing a lot of data between eachother, as well as getting and sending data over the web. So, can Flash be used in .NET? What kind of API does it have? Or am I stuck with the Windows look/feek thanks,

i'm no expert on this, but read up on Adobe Air. In the most basic terms it allows you to create flash apps that can be deployed on the desktop and will run mac/windows.

Can Flash use H.264 as simply as QuickTime?

Is it possible for Flash to use an H.264-encoded video as
simply as QuickTime? By this I mean equivalent to: a) drop QT movie
into HTML page, b) set autostart or not, c) set controller to
visible. No muss no fuss. I've got as far as downloading a sample
html and SWF and correctly playing an H264 movie using
ActionScript3, but I can't see how to add a controller as simply as
QT. So...
Is there an existing FLA document which plays H264 mpg-4s
with a controller? Can any clever soul a) understand the
requirement, and b) supply or point me to an FLA file which, when
compiled to swf will play an H.264-encoded .mp4 movie with a
controller (preferrably one as elegant and compact as QT's)?
Secondly: with H264, can Flash-driven videos now be scrubbed
in the controller on a web page as smoothly as QT? (I create
training videos which require smooth scrubbing capability.)
Thirdly, with H264, can Flash-driven videos now start in less
than 0.2 second (like QT)?

i am exporting to .mov which gives me the markers. i just can't skip through them like in a dvd player.
So it it is not a problem of the chapter markers not working but that all of the players from QT and MPEG Streamclip to VLC and SimpleMovieX all use a "pop-up" control mechanism for chapter skipping during playback. In that case I don't know of any real workaround. Only device playback like a DVD player or the TV device seem to have live chapter skip options during playback. (MPEG Streamclip comes the closest with live chapter jumps using the up/down arrow keys but only when the player is paused and this doesn't work in the "full screen" mode.)

Can Flash MX 2004 handle Director files (.dir)

Hi,
Can Flash handle Director movies? I am making a presentation
of my artworks in Flash environment; I have both Flash and Director
movies. I know that I can import all my swf movies into Director
MX2004 to create a standalone projector and play both swf and dir
movies in Director MX 2004. Does the same work if I import dir
files into Flash MX 2004 Pro?

If you need Director movies to be integrated with Flash
movies, there is only one
way, use Director. If you don't have Director, then you won't
be able to use the
Director movies. So, either, recreate the Director movies in
Flash (if it's
possible), or better yet, get Director

Can Flash create dashed line with blunt not rounded dashes ?

using Flash8
I can select line tool and dashed line in properties and draw a dashed line and get a line of sausages. How do I get a line of dashes without rounded ends to each dash ?
Line option has end caps option with None (gives straight or blunt tip to line, round gives rounded tip .
Draw a line with None and its got blunt ends, select it and choose dashed line option and it gets round ends to the dashes, the end cap option is greyed out !
Are dashed lines with blunt dashes now possible again with CS4, a forum poster also found that CS3 no longer gave blunt dashes ?
Why do I ask:-
I am trying to bring a map into Flash8 from Illustrator (Illus version 10 as it allows blunt tip lines to remain blunt it was said on the forum)... which has blunt ends to roads and has blunt type dashed lines. The roads remain blunt..GOOD !..but the dashed lines become what looks like a solid line. BAD !
I do a right click - break apart, then double click one of those now solid lines that should be dashed, and I am able to select a portion of the line, it is no longer a continual line as drawn in Illustrator. Properties shows it as solid line. Flash8 obviously having a problem with supporting Illustrator 10 dashed line then !
Select dashed in properties box and I get a portion of the line as sausage dashes, but working my way along the line doing each bit sees a far from correct dashed line result as sausages dont start stop evenly as each line is a separate entity and ignores the previous line.
Looks like I shall have to try and draw the line as one long line again in flash but unless I can give it blunt dashes when done, there is no point even trying that method, hence my question.
Would the latest Illustrator and Flash versions (CS4) allow blunt type dashed lines to appear in Flash ?
This is crucial for bringing maps into Flash.

If you look, very carefully, at the end of the stream, it's flat. Not rounded like it should be. After a bit of trial and error, I tried a different brush:

Can FLASH program be pasted on Labview

Probably not as easily since (if I remember correctly) both Dreamweaver and Flash are from Macromedia and since Dreamweaver is designed to do this kind of thing and LV isn't.
What you can do is integrate ActiveX controls into your front panel and interact with these controls using invoke nodes and property nodes. Place an ActiveX container (in the containers palette) and right click it to insert a flash object (on my system I see 2 objects called "Shockwave ...."). You will then need to wire the reference into the nodes on the diagram to get the various properties and methods. If you can find the documentation for the ActiveX interface somewhere then you should probably be all right, but just consider the following:
LV is multiplatform and ActiveX is windows only. LV doesn't always work too well with AX.
You have to have the ActiveX object installed on every computer where this will run (and it needs to be the same version).
Getting the data from the object could be tricky.
If all this doesn't work, you could try using an Internet Explorer ActiveX object and just load the flash file into an HTML page.
To learn more about LabVIEW, I suggest you try searching this site and google for LabVIEW tutorials. Here and here are a couple you can start with. You can also contact your local NI office and join one of their courses.
In addition, I suggest you read the LabVIEW style guide and the LabVIEW user manual (Help>>Search the LabVIEW Bookshelf).

Can flash handle multiple screens?

hi people,
need some advice please. I want to make an application that works on 2 screen.
on screen1 I need to make GUI with several buttons, sliders, radio buttons, field for dynamic text
on screen2 (big screen / LED / video projector) I want to output photos and simple vector animations that are controlled with GUI on screen1
I don't know if it is possible in Flash to have one output with GUI and other with content. Does Flash recognize multiple screen outputs? Is there an action script command to tell flash projector: this put on screen1 and this put on screen2

I have been using flash when it was version 3. I stopped with MX version and haven't opened it for last 5 years.I was great in as1, ok with as2 but never read/write any command in as3. This is a big challenge for me

I guess that the northcode link can be helpfull. I haven't looked at their products for quite a while, but I used to think, that they did excellent stuff. Without additional software, I think you could use the local.connection feature and two swfs - one for (remote)-control and one for display. I'm not sure about how to achive full full-screen and not loosing it when working on the controler, but there may be a solution with the help of a full-screen browser...

does anyone know if i can do this in flash? i need to draw
complex 3D images that can rotate on all axis, but also be able to
zoom in to items within images, for example a bolt within a tube,
which is in a lawnmower, and then add code to allow it to work
within in a ecommece website, so the image parts can be added to a
existing shopping cart system?
The images will be used like in Solidworks so you can zoom

Can flash accept data?

Is it possible for flash to accept value from a database?
Here is what I want to do:
There is a database storing values "postions" and
"descriptions" (there are 2 coloumns named so to store the values).
In flash I want to accept the values entered in these 2
coloumns.
How to go about it?
If I create 2 dynamic text boxes with variable names "p" and
"d" respectively and an "accept" button on the scene, what script
should I add to the button so that these text boxes accept the
values?
so my 2 queries are:
1) how do I send the value from the database to flash?
2) how do I accept the same in flash?
please help. I do not have much knowledge of database
management. So explain me in layman's terms please. Thank you very

you can do one of the following:
1. use php to access the database and output the raw values
and use loadVars
2. see 1 only output it in xml and let flash read the xml
3. use coldfusion *sry don't know how to do this I'm still
trying to figure out myself*
I myself use the second option the most due to it's
flexibility and there are alot of articles on the forum and main
adobe site to help
