Can Forms 9i run on a different Application Server, e.g. Apache?

Can Forms/Reports 9i run on a different Application Server, e.g. Apache? i.e. without needing to use 9iAS.
It is quoted in the document "Migrating Client/Server to the web" that it may be possible, but will not be supported. Is this possible?
The reason I ask this is due to the costs involved of 9iAS. If I can use an alternative route like Apache / Tomcat, it's free. Then I only need the developer suite licensing.

Just so you'll know Oracle9iAS also includes apache as the HTTP server.
As Suncan said, if you want to use Forms on the Web you need the Forms Server engine, and it comes bundled in Oracle9iAS. You'll save yourself a lot of headache if you just install Oracle9iAS and have everything pre-configured for you thus reducing maintanance costs.

Can I Use Designer 6i on Oracle 9i database

Please can I use designer 6i on an Oracle 9i database.
I tried it and I could not log on as user SYS .
Are there any configurations I need to do. What is the order of installation.

Hi,
I'm currently using Oracle 9i DB and Dev/Des 6i. In my case I installed the 9i DB first since in order for me to succesfully create a repository I need a working DB first.

No, Forms cannot be compiled into an .exe. But an Oracle9iAS Enterprise Edition install contains everything it needs to run.

Going into further details, if you are asking about number of concurrent sessions >that can access a block then it is defined by the INITRANS and MAXTRANS >parameters for the segment (which defaults to 2 for table segment, 1 for index >segment). There is more to say about that ITL slots: for Oracle 9i at least there can only be a maximum of 255 ITL slots whatever the data block size: for small block size, the maximum of ITL slots is about 50% of the data block size and and can be lower than 255.

Can form 6i run in Apps 11.0.3

I define my form 6i under System Administration-> Application -> Function with Type='WWW' and HTML call = 6i form url on the web
I want the user to login through the R11 Application and run the form 6i on the web by selecting the function as defined. However I encounter page not found by using the setup as above.
Anyone experience on doing this?

You need to post this question on the Applications forum. Even though you are using Forms, it's the Applications infrastructure that you're asking about.

Did you try to clear the Jinitiator Cache.
some times you have to accept the digital security and it hides behind. So please minimize all the windows and see if there is any other message.
Before opening form, If you open java console and press 5, it will show you the exact error message.

It will work. Its just a Net 80 connection from WLS to the Oracle 9 database.

Can Forms call ADF (JSP) applications of Jdeveloper?

Hallo all, i created a JSP application to show Master-Detail page, Guages,Pivottable. Gantt charts in Jdeveloper using the ADF BC. I want to create a button in Forms that will call these application without dependency on Jdeveloper.Pls can anyone advice me step by step on the possibility. I tried useing the web.show_document package in Forms. it only works if the jdeveloper embedded server is running. But i dont want to have any dependency to jdeveloper at all.
Is there any suggestions to doing this. pls help!!

Forms is running in an Oracle Container 4 Java in the middle-tier. This Forms Service communicate via HTTP with the generic java applet locally in your browser. They communicate with some meta-data to show you the forms application in your browser. Your form runs in the application server.
You can communicate via web.show_document with other URL's, but you cannot integrate them into forms.

I would highly recommend that you review our OTN page about APEX in 12c, which explains that APEX 4.2.0.0.08 is installed by default in 12c. We can suspend the running job in oracle I believe so using DBMS_SCHEDULER.Can you please let me share your experience on this

change the tnsnames.ora you're forms 6i is using. Usually in the net80\admin path of your forms 6i home.

How to migrate data from oracle 9i database to new machine 11gr2 RAC ASM

I need your expertise to advise me what is the best method to move data from oracle 9i database to new machine running oracle 11r2 RAC database with ASM.
Currently my production server running on HPUX ORACLE 9I database with normal file system. My new server is running SUN SOLARIS SPACR 64 bit ORACLE 11gr2 RAC with ASM. What is best method to move data over so it will be consistent. Any guide can refer.

See the note in metalink Migration of Oracle Database Instances Across OS Platforms [ID 733205.1] to saw the Endian Format of your OS. If is the same you can use the RMAN to convert the database to another OS, if not the only option is using export/import (Transportable Tablespaces).
To upgrade from 9i to 11g, see the note 837570.1 - Complete Checklist for Manual Upgrades to 11gR2.
To migrate your FS to ASM the only way is using RMAN, so see the note - How to move a datafile from a file system to ASM [ID 390274.1].

it is said that Oracle Xe DB(Express DB) is for PHP , .NET , web based development (Application Express). can Form developer be connected to Oracle Xe DB? if yes then which version are supported (6i,9i,10g).

XE is a 10g Release 2 database. It have a few size and resource usage limitations and it does not include Java in the database, therefore eliminating all typical Java-based stored procedures.
If you can connect to a 10g R2 Enterprise Edition, you should be able to connect to Express Edition. Developer Suite 6i comes with an Oracle Network client that has a hard time connecting to any 10gR2.
