Can Garageband measure pitch on a vocal waveform?

I've just recently discovered that Garageband has an autotune feature that will take a recorded vocal waveform and alter it to transform off key notes to on key.  I would like to know if there is a way in Garageband to analyze a recorded vocal waveform and identify the pitches and/or note names in that track.  I would like to see when and where a vocal gets slightly sharp or flat so the singer can improve the performance w/o resorting to autotuning.

You can use the "Tuner" to show how far the pitch is off:
Single out the vocal track.
Set the LED display to the "Tuner" (you should see the tuning fork).
Play the song.
The tuner will show how far the pitch is off.

  • Can I measure frequency with a SCXI-1120 module and SCXI-1320 terminal block?

I am attempting to measure a square wave from a directional encoder to display RPM of a dynamometer. The waveform will have a frequency of 0-4KHz, with 3.6KHz being nominal, at about 5volts RMS. How can I measure the frequency of this waveform with the hardware I am currently using? In addition to what is listed above, I am using a PCI6034E GPIB card and LabView software.

In order to measure frequency, I would not recommend to use the SCXI-1120, but the SCXI 1126, which is a programmable isolated F-to-V module.
If by any reason you do not want to use SCXI-1126, then I would suggest to use the counter/timers of your board. The counter/timers are TTL compatible, and are the devices that we mostly recommend for doing precise frequency measurements.
In order to have access to the counter/timers of your board through your SCXI chassis, you will need SCXI-1180, which is basically a feedtrhough panel for your DAQ board.
Once we have access to the counter/timers through the SCXI chassis, we can proceed with the coding.
I found a pretty good webpage that clearly explains how to perform frequency measurement with the DAQ-S
TC counter/timers (DAQ-STC is the type of counter/timer chip that you DAQ device has). Here is the link to it:
    Pulse Width & Frequency Measurements
As you will see, this link contains tutorials, application notes and example programs. I would recommend to pay special attention to the example program called: DAQ-STC: Measuring frequency.
    Good luck with your application!

  • How can I add vocal effects other than the 9 Voice options? (I can't shift pitch)

    Hello!
I am making the switch from PC and am just trying to lower the pitch of a vocal track by at least an octave; I just got a MBP last week and am running GB 10.0.2. I can't find any info on similar problems that is helpful; most solutions I've come across show that when the track is selected, there should be a pitch shift bar with a sliding button, but I do not have that. I read a lot of people saying something about the track being purple or not, but I'm not sure if that's relative to the version I have or if that has anything to do with what's happening. When I select the track, in the little area toward the lower left when "Track" is selected, (what is that space called?) where the pitch shift option is for other people, I only have a sliding bar for Pitch Correction, and a checkbox for Limit to Key and Enable Flex. When "Region" is selected, it just shows the name of the region and there are no options. Another question I have is how to change the pitch of midi sounds? When the keyboard is open on the screen I have tried moving the little octave shifter, but it assigns the sounds that are on the keyboard at different locations if I move it, so it changes the sound completely. A couple of them shift one octave up or down, but there are no actual controls..
I'm mostly just dabbling with EDM/trap/Hiphop tracks at the moment, but am confused about whether or not there are other vocal effects and controls other than the preset Voice options in the instrument area (Bright vocal, Classic vocal, compressed vocal, Edge vocal, etc.)? I'm not going to be using GB forever, but are there not any other options like for current rap/trap production (phaser, balance, EQ, auto tune, choppers, actual voice altering effects, etc.) [preferably without buying extra things]? And not only vocals, but editing effects for all sounds.. If so, how do I get to them? And if not I know I should at least be able to lower or raise the pitch of a vocal recording... There are some pretty legit electronic instruments that are exactly the kind of sound I'm going for so I was surprised to not see an equally simple to access vocal effects board or something. Any additional tips for a n00b electronic music producer would also be greatly appreciated! Thank you for any help!

In GarageBand 10 you can no longer change a track with an audio file to a "purple" audio recording, as it has been possible in GarageBand '11.
Even, if you can make the transpose slider visible by enlarging the the track editor panel, the slider will be disabled.
What you can do however, is either add an AuPItch filter  from the audioUnit panel or to convert your audio file to loop and to admit from the Loop Browser.
In the new GarageBand you add the AuPitch filter from the Smart Controls.
Enlarge the SmartControl panel by dragging the dividing line upwards, until you see the Audio Units brick, then add an Apple Audio Unit and set it to AuPitch.
Or create a loop from the audio file. Select the region in the track and use the command "File: Add region to Loop library". You need to trim the filet an exact number of measures.
Set the current key and tempo, name the loop, and save the loop. Make sure, that one-shot loop is not enabled.
Now add it from the loop browser to a new track and delete your old track. The search field in the Loop browser will help you to find the loop quickly.
You will be able to transpose the sample  like any regular loop.

  • Can i record voice in the VocaLive app then use it in Garageband?

Can i record the voice track in other apps, like VOcaLIve or any other with voice fx (like Pitch ) and use it to do my music in garageband?

If you can export the recording from your vocal app as an audio file via email, then this could give you a starting poing for getting it into garageband

  • Can I measure AC - RMS with my 6040E?

I have a few current transducers(LEM) in my application.
(They deliver a AC voltage wich is a mate for the current)
So, I would like to read the RMS voltage with my 6040E (and a SCB68 connector block).
    My configuration:

    Hi,
The 6040E is a Data Acquisition board, and not a DMM, and can therefore not deliver data in RMS format, however, you can acquire the analog signal using the 6040E and then calculate the RMS value using one of your RMS Waveform Measurements VI's included with labview. You can find them at: Main Palette-> Analyze-> Waveform Measurements. If your application is not time critical (that is, if you can wait for the data to be acquired and then converted to RMS) this would be the most cost effective solution. If you need a faster response I recommend you check out our line of Digital Multimeters.
The second issue you must be aware of is the input voltage. I'm aware that a lot of LEM's supply +-10V output, which would be OK, but if you have a LEM that provides a voltage greater than that you'd have to add signal conditioning to divide that voltage down. You can build your own amplifier, depending on the amount of noise you're dealing with, or check out some of our signal conditioning products, that might help improve the acuracy of your measurement.
I hope all this information was useful. if you need anything else please contact us again.
    Greetings

  • Can pulse measurement.vi measures 2M points with 10ns time interval?

    Hi,
I used pulse measurement.vi to measure the pulse duration of waveforms when the waveforms exceed certain threshold level. The data file has 2 millions data points with 10ns time interval.  But I got error message saying that
"The waveform did not cross the mid reference level enough time to perform this measurement. Check the signal length, mid reference level, and reference level unit."
I was wondering if pulse measurement.vi is capable of handling such large file or it was due to my paramenter errors.
Thank you for your help in advance.

I realized that I can't really modify the percent level settings or specfication of the pulse measurement.vi. For instance, I changed the percent level setting to peak instead of the default auto select. After running the VI unsuccessfully and I reopened the pulse measurement.vi, I saw the percent level setting was set to auto select again instead of peak method. I have attached the image of the block digram and a very small part of the waveform data. I hope you can open both.
    Thank you.

  • Can I measure AC voltage using FP-AI-102? I want to measure in the range of 0-120 VAC

Can I measure AC voltage using FP-AI-102? I want to measure in the range of 0-120 VAC

    Hello Luis,
The update rate on the AI-102 module is 360Hz, which means that you can only accurately acquire waveforms with frequencies below 180Hz.
FieldPoint wasn't made for high speed measurements, so you will have to make sure that you are able to acquire the waveform you want to with the hardware that you have.
If you want to know how you would do the acquisition, I urge you to take a look at the LabVIEW shipping examples.
Help»Find Examples... and browse to Hardware Input and Output»FieldPoint»Analog IO
As for writing to the file, you can take a look at examples under Fundamentals»File Input and Output.  You can use the functions included in the Functions Palette under Programming»File I/O.
    I hope that this helps!

  • How can I create harmony using one vocal

I'm trying to learn how I can... Instead of having 3 people sing or one person sing all three parts, I can sing one part and somehow create the other 2 parts making harmony...??? I was wondering if it was Hermode Tuning but...???

You can pitch-shift copies of tracks, with pitch-shifter or vocal transformer, or have the one track send to several busses with these plugs inserted, but really, doing it this way will tend to sound more like an effect than real harmonies, (even if you delay the shifted copies)
To get authentic sounding harmonies, you need too record each part. (even recording each one in the same part and then shifting those tracks will sound better than working off the one recording)

  • How can I measure the hertz in a wave form?

How can I measure the hertz in a wave form?

As an example, this is from BBC Technical Requirements for HD material:
    3.1.1 Stereo line-up tones
All stereo tracks must use EBU 1KHz tone (left ident). All tones must be sinusoidal, free of distortion and phase coherent between channels.
Digital Audio Reference level is defined as 18dB below the maximum coding value (-18dBFS) as per EBU recommended practice R68.
    See also:
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/guidelines/dq/pdf/tv/tv_delivery_to_network_programmes_v1.2-2011.pdf
    for full document.
    And for BBC Radio:
Not every Network requires tone. Check the delivery requirements with the commissioning network or click here.
Reference tone, where used, should be at -18dBFS or PPM 4 on A, B and/or M.
If submitting material with reference tone, tone and programme material must be have been monitored and measured through the same technical chain. The level of the tone must be equivalent to 0dBu and no less than 8dB below peak audio level for the programme material.
THE LEVEL OF TONE MUST HAVE A KNOWN RELATIONSHIP WITH THE LEVEL OF THE PROGRAMME MATERIAL AND THIS MUST BE STATED; for example: “Tone at 8dB below peak programme level”.
As a newcomer to digital sound (my background is camera) I confess to being somewhat confused. We are normally told to record at the highest level possible. So for voice podcasts I tend to record at about -6dB below peak for maximum volume, distributeds on MP3 files.
But I can underatand that televison and radio especially for analogue transmission) may have limited headroom, hence the requirement for -18dB peak = 0dBM.
I remember when we first rented out Digital Betacam cameras, some recordists were recording almost everything OVER -18dBM.
I suspect that until we have an all-digital world, these requiremnents will still be in place.
Many thanks to all. It's a ghreat community!

  • How can I label the peak in the waveform graph!

Hello, my question is a little vague. I try to narrate it clearly.
    Thank you for your patience!
I work with Labview 7.1. At a word, My question is how to label the
peaks when using the while loop and the event structure with
    the dobule click event!
1.Open the Why.VI and execute it.
2.Click in the 'Acquire signal', then you will find two modes to upload
the signals, press the 'Read' button and ignore the 'Sample',since 'Sample'
mode need the support from the hardware, while 'Read' mode just upload file
from disk,  select the 'Signal.txt'(inluded in the attachment), you will
find two waveform shown in waveform graph, just like 'Pic1.jpg'. Up to now,
    there is no problem.
3.Press on the 'Analysis' button and enter a new interface. Amplify the plot
and selet the the a piece of waveform between about 3.02 and 3.06. Set the
x coordinate of the 'Cursor 0' as 3.03 and set the width as 0.01. Move the cursor
you will find two cursors(one vertical lines in yellow and another in blue).
Double click the graph and select 'valley', two x coordinate values corresponding
to the x coordinate of the two valleys are listed in the listbox. All above
    mentioned is shown in 'Pic2.jpg'.
4.Let me explain my idea and my question now. What I have done is plot the waveform
when clicking in 'Analysis' interface;then, amplify the waveform, select
a certain area and move the cursors;at last, double click the graph, the waveform
between the two cursors are selected and the peaks are identified. But, what I need
next is to label the peaks in the graph as soon as I double click the graph,I
can not realize this idea because the waveform is out of the while event, the coordinates
of the peaks can not output until the while event is stopped. If I move the graph
into the while loop, the selected area can not be keeped because the while loop will
run continuously and will renovate the plot area to original area, but I want to keep
the selected area for got the peaks conveniently. In short, My question is about how
to label the peaks in the graph and keep the seleced area freely.
This problem has puzzled me for a long time. May anyone give me some advice.
Thank you for patience and really appreciate your help!
BTWlease let me know if the VI can not run well!

  • Can a measure map to multiple fact tables

    Hi Experts,
Can A Measure in an Universe map to multiple fact tables? For example, we have sales detail table by day and store and product, and have sales summary table by day and region and (product) department. We like to create a measure to map to both detail table and summary table. When I run query includes store and product,  the query will automatically use the sales detail table; and query can automatically choose the summary table when it only includes region and department. Our database table could be in  Teradata and Oracle. Can we achieve it and how? If a measure can't achieve this (dimension awareness), what the other option we can have and how to do it?
    Thank you,
    Richard

    Hi Sion,
After I make the tables incompatible with the dimension objects on different levels, the measure can point to the right table if my query only include Store and Product or only include Region and Department. But in some scenario, the business could ask to include both Store and Region or Item and Department in same query. The current approach doesn't work on this further request. In our database, we have store table including Region with other higher level organization information, Product table including Department with other higher level product information, and we also have separated Region table and Department table. Could we make the objects more flexible u2013 query will be against aggregation sales table if dimension objects in query are only on higher level and will against detail sales table if some of dimension objects are on high level and some on low level?
    Many thanks,
    Richard

  • Can Garageband instruments be imported to LE's library?

I'm having a rough go of setting up an external keyboard as a midi instrument. As a temporary workaround I thought of setting it up as a software instrument, which proved much easier, but then was disappointed of the piano offerings in LE's basic Library. Can Garageband instruments be imported to LE's library or is the only way to upgrade selections through additional software purchases? I'll eventually figure out the midi instrument angle, but until then wanted to know if this was a viable workaround? Thanks

You should be able to see Garage Band stuff in the EXS24 sampler and load a set.
Open up the EX and look for the [cut off] and just above that is black window, click and hold and choose which you would like.
    Good luck.

  • Can I measure temperature using 6013 & 68LPR?

Hello, from hardware I've got Multifunction DAQ (6013) and Therminal Block (68LPR). From software I've got VI Logger (1.0.1) and NI-DAQ (6.9.3). Using this, can I measure temperature with K-Type therminals? (Everything is installed and ready to go)
If yes, how can I connect K-Type therminal to thermal block? Are there any instructions on how to use VI Logger to perform similar task to this one?
Also what I want is, the temperature that has been read (for an hour, every 5mins) to be written in a file. Is it possible to write to a file using VI Logger?
    Thank you!

  • Can I measure pulswidths with daqmx base and NI-USB6501

Can I measure pulswidths with daqmx base 1.4 and NI-USB6501? I can measure edges width this function: DAQmxBaseCreateCICountEdgesChan. But, when using DAQmxBaseCreateCIPulseWidthChan I always get an error message back (DAQmxBase Error: <err>Value passed to the Task/Channels In control is invalid).
I also cannot find any examples about this topic in the software on CD nor on the internet.
I also don't know what values to use for the float64 minVal and float64 maxVal arguments when using the pulse width function of above (see the NI-DAQ™mx Base 1.x C Function Reference Help).
Maybe my device (NI USB6501) cannot measure pulse width's and when it does measure pulse width's, what value will it give back? Seconds or ticks and what is the accuracy?
Ok, enough questions for now. Thank you in avance for answering.
    D. Stollman

The USB-6501 counter is capable of falling edge edge counting
measurements only, so the type of measurement you wish to do is not
possible with that device.  The data sheet for the USB-6501 can be
    found at the following link:
    http://www.ni.com/pdf/products/us/20054920301101dlr.pdf
I believe the DAQPad-6015 and DAQPad-6016 USB devices are capable of
measuring pulse width, as well as many of NI's PCI data acquisition
    devices.
