Can GB open the default GUI for an AU?

Any generator or effect that has a custom GUI makes the iControl essentially useless. I use a number of AUs that have custom GUIs.
In other AU hosts, there's a relatively simple way to open the standard GUI instead. For a few units--e.g., ABL, Cube--this is completely unusable, but for others, it's just fine.
Unfortunately, I can't find any way to do this in GB3. I've searched the manuals, and I've tried all the obvious stuff, like option-clicking the pencil button (which seems to just make the custom GUI popup and immediately close), and nothing seems to work.
What I'd really like to do is have the iControl Generator and Effect buttons pop up the standard GUI. I asked M-Audio about this, and they say that it's a confirmed bug in either GarageBand or OS X, so I have to report it to Apple. I'm not sure they're right about this, but that's what they said.
Meanwhile, another user told me that all control surfaces have to have a plist somewhere to map what the controls do. I looked through iControl.bundle and didn't see anything likely (and I'm not sure what I'd map the controls to anyway, since I don't know how to make GB open the standard GUI in the first place).

Lots of apps can show the generic interface, and you could write a new one in an hour. In some apps, holding in a modifier key while clicking the equivalent of a pencil button does it. But I tried all the modifiers with GB. I'm guessing they just didn't implement that feature for some reason, but I'd like to actually know that. (Or, better, I'd like to know that they did, and how to access it.)
Anyway, your mapping idea won't work. iControl can't remap its controls--iControl can't map its controls; each button or knob sends a fixed, specific (and arbitrary--see http://homepage.mac.com/rfwilmut/notes/GBcontrol.html) MIDI message. There's a special iControl driver embedded in GB that interprets these messages to do the right thing. For plugins with generic GUIs, you can control the sliders fine; for plugins with Carbon (or Cocoa) GUIs, you can't.

That has nothing to do with styles nor Pages, it is a System/Printer Driver setting.
You can experiment to see if the Printer Settings stick with your document, but in the past this has not worked.

I have read the on line directions for this and it reads "select a file type in the left pane." I do not see where this is in the left pane. All I see in the left pane is "Browser start pages" and a "How do I " Pane. Nothing with file types.

In order to change the default program for the external applications editor. Please follow the steps as mentioned below.
Click on Edit menu then choose preferences.
Once the preferences dialog box open.
click on file editors.
On the Left pane you will find all the file types which you want to edit .
On the right hand side you will find the editors for that specific file type.
If you want to add any other application you need to click on + symbol at the top of right pane.
Select the path of that application which you want to apply.
clcik on open.
If you want to make it primay you can click make primary option available at the right hand top. For more detials please check the screenshot below.

How can I change the default application for a content type?

Running a version of Linux, the default application for PDF files is "Use Document Viewer (default)", which appears to be /usr/bin/evince. I'd much prefer to use /usr/bin/okular; how can I change the default. This question is NOT about how to change the function that is automatically applied when I access a link, in this case "Preview in Firefox", but rather to the default application that I can select when I download a file being viewed in Firefox's previewer.

This is real progress, a solution to the problem as posted. The command:
xdg-mime default okularApplication_pdf.desktop application/pdf
makes okular the default.
However when I added okular to the choices for applications in:
* Edit>Preferences>Applications>PDF
the popup box that appears when I click Download on the preview page changed. The pulldown menu that appears next to "Open with" used to have 3 entries:
# Document Viewer (default)
# Acroread
# Other
Now it has only 2:
# Okular (Default)
# Other
I'd like it to read
# Okular (Default)
# Acroread
# Other
How can I control the entries in this pulldown list?
Also, how can I make the default choice in the popup box be

How can I change the default page for a book?

I have a book that contains six pages. One of the pages contains the login portlet while the others contain account specific information that a user can only see if they are logged in. Currently, I have the default page set to the login page.
I am attempting to write a backing file for the book that will esentially change the default page for the book to be one of the other pages if the user is already logged in. In effect showing a logged in user their account summary page instead of the login portlet.
I can't seem to find a way to change what page the user is shown with the book and page context classes. I can hide the login page, but this leaves the user looking at a blank page. Unfortunately I can't use entitlements, otherwise this would be easy.
Does anyone know how to "forward" to another page from a backing file?

How can I edit the default settings for the Email button?

I saw this question posted for February and as yet still unanswered. So I am now asking it again.
I do not want to use my .mac account email address in my website. I want it linked to my domain. I have found no specific instructions for changing the default. Also my drag down "Link to" menu in the Inspector does not work.

While you can't edit the default email address in iWeb, there is a workaround which may suit.
In Safari, locate a web page which has iWeb's email button on it (if you've already published a site, one of your own web pages is ideal). Control-click on the button and select 'Add Image to iPhoto Library'. Drag this image from the Media Browser to your iWeb page, select the image, and use the Link inspector to enable it as a hyperlink linking to 'An Email Message'. Enter whatever email address you like in the To box and a Subject for the message if you wish.
To make things easier, create an iWeb library in iPhoto and add the email button to it for handy access.

Can I change the default settings for InfoView?

I have a Crystal Reports Server 2008 running. The users access their reports via the InfoView web application.
In this application each user can configure some settings, like whether to use the Acrobat Reader or an ActiveX control for printing. Due to the fact that most users are not experts, is it possible to change the default values for all users by administration?

It took me a few tries to figure this out, so I thought I would share the steps I took to accomplish this.
This was successful for InfoView Preferences for a Crystal Reports Server 2008 application (XI 3.1 base).
1. Download the jsp files here: http://service.sap.com/bosap-supportsw
Choose BusinessObjects Enterprise > * > Samples >
"How to set preferences for all users at once in BO XI R2"
2. Extract the files and rename logon.jsp to setpref.jsp
3. Copy the downloaded jsp files to your root Infoview webapp folder (where the wars deployed to). We use the default - Tomcat. The Infoview webapp is deployed to C:\Program Files\Business Objects\Tomcat55\webapps\InfoViewApp\ If this is you, copy to here.
4. From your browser launch http://crystalreportshost:8080/InfoViewApp/setpref.jsp (your infoview link) and follow the instructions!

Where can one change the default setting for itune u (ie so that download all is default)

Where can the defaults for itunes download setting be changed? I would like it to be download all instead od download the first only. I don't want to have to open each and change it on a one by one basic. os is 10.8.4 running on a macbook pro

Okay after much research and trial I finally figured it out. When you open up the settings menu at the very top of the list of itune u courses is the default selection by checking this it then becomes the default choice. You will not see this unless you open the dropbox and go to the top and even then you might think it was just a header.

How can I select the default greeting for a voicemail for the iPhone 4s?

I am wanting to set up the voicemail feature for my iPhone 4s. (I have had this phone for years but never enacted a voicemail!) However, I am having trouble. When I click on the phone settings in my phone, the only options I have in regards to voicemail is to set up or change the password. I am not given the option to set up a voicemail. Whenever I try to set up the voicemail by dialing *86, I am given only the options of changing my password or to set up a custom greeting. I am not able to select the default/standard greeting as it is not mentioned. I am wondering how I can go about this. I am not sure why I don't have the options already available in my phone automatically or why it is not provided as an option when I call to set it up.
Any help with this?

nnd217, Help is here! The 4S is a great device, sorry to learn that you are having trouble with setting up the VM default greeting. I should be able to shed some light on this situation. If you go to your phone icon, as if you were making a call, you should see the voicemail icon down at the bottom right. Once you select that, in the upper left corner there is an option that says Greeting, so ahead and select that. From there you have two choices, default and Customer. If you select default there will be a check mark in that box, then hit save. You should now have your default greeting in place. In PSE 12, how can I change the default folder for scans?

By default, PSE uses the Windows preferred location for this user. I have a folder that is easier to access, simply D:\Scans, and I have to enter this manually, as well as removing the default to set up a folder with "today's date" every time I do a scan. I would like to modify these default settings. Surely those locations must be held in an installed file somewhere, and so if I can just edit that file I'd be very happy! All help appreciated.

I have no suggestion for registry editing or setting files editing, but depending on which version of Windows you have you don't have to stick with C:\Users. Right-click the relevant folder and change the location in the Location tab.

Mac OSX mavericks - can't change the default app for InDesign

I have a problem that the InDesign CS6 stubbornly changes back the default file-type association for the .indd and .indb file types.
I tried to change it via Get Info - then it immediately changes back to InDesign CS6. Also tried with RC default App, but it forgets my setting immediately when I make them for InDesign CS5, and for CS6 it doesn't allow that I make it.
The only way that it works, is if I put the InDesign CS6 folder to Trash, and then change the file-type association - but then only until I start again InDesign CS6 which changes back all the file-type associations.
My workflow is like that, that I'm working on many projects, and my main clients use CS5, but some use CS6 - so I need both of them, but that CS5 is the main program. How can I fix this problem?
I am on latest Mac OS X 10.9.1

Edit: Disregard. It worked for some text/ files but not video/x-... So I guess I still have the same problem.
The same thing happened to me.
I deleted (probably safer to first rename)
~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list
Then I ran
kbuildsycoca4 --noincremental
I'm not sure if the first step was necessary, but it worked for me.

Can I change the default settings for Paragraph Rules?

I need to apply the same 'Rule Below' to a lot of separate lines of text in InDesign CS5, but the settings I want differ from the default ones in the Paragraph Rules dialogue box. Is there a way to change the default settings so I can just click Rule On rather than inputting the same information a million and one times?

You will need a separate paragraph style for each heading level
Heading Level 1
Heading Level 2
Heading Level 3
For Heading Level 1 - create a Paragraph Style and set it the way you want.
For Heading Level 2 - make sure that in General that "Based on: Heading Level 1", this will give it same properties as H1 - but you can change the size of the text and the size paragraph rule to suit.
For HEading Level 3 - make sure that you set it to Based On: Heading Level 1 (this is vital)
And do the same for all Sub Heading levels.
I'd usually assign shortcuts of
CTRL ALT SHIFT 1 - for H1
CTRL ALT SHIFT 2 - for H2
Etc.
This will ensure consistency across your document.
Say for example you needed to change the colour or tint of all Paragraph Rules
CHANGE H1 ONLY - and this will also be applied to H2 H3 H4 etc. As long as you haven't given different tints/colours to each individual Paragraph Rule in the Styles.

Safari can't open the specified address for my last.fm playlist

Recently my favorite radio app - last.fm - has been unable to open in Safari. The error is: Safari can’t open lastfm//user/~ because Mac OS X doesn’t recognize Internet addresses starting with “lastfm:”. Though the home page is http://www.last.fm/home, the link to personal playlist does not contain http://lastfm/user/ ~ . I suppose this is a lastfm technical issue, so my post could be just an fyi. Right?
