Can global temporary  table work for me?

Hi i recently found out about GTT, I first created a table and inserted values into my new_table but it was
I have a report that I need to display a time range based on the time given in the report, now each page of the report shows a different time range. I created a formula that would insert into a new_table based on the value of the time range, I would then pull the values from the table to the report in a repeating frame, this caused the problem because data in table is overwriting the previous page values before it is displayed on the screen(there is a delete from table in the formula). This is my problem, how can I pull from the table before its deleted, will GTT work , if so How?

I have no idea if it will work as you neglected to provide any code and any information about how you are producing the reports and with what tool.

    In one of complicated module I am using Global Temporary Table (GTT) for intermediate processing i.e. It will store required data in it but the rows of the data goes into 10,00,000 - 20,00,000.
    Can Partitioning or Indexing on Global Temporary Table improve the performance?

    Sounds like an odd use of a GTT to me, but I'm sure there are valid reasons...
    Presumably you are going to be processing all of these rows in some way? In which case I can't see how partitioning, even if it's possible (And I don't think it is) would help you.
    Indexes - sure, that might help, but again, if you are reading all/most of these rows anyway they might not help or even get used.
    Can you give a bit more detail about exactly what you are doing?

    I want to pass collection of records from a Form to a report, I think of global temporary table, but according to our application setting, openning a report through OM, opens new session, hence data will not be saved in that global temporary table.

    In forms, insert records into this temp table and pass the records' id, which was inserted by you with each record, to the report (one collection of records will have only one id).

    here i am giving one of the requirement
    my project is belongs to inventory project.
    report should be generated on the different selection criteria like
    1)user can select one or more product codes
    2)for that product code one or more item codes can select
    like this so many different selection are there more than 12 selections from different tables
    For this each different selection product code into gtt_prod_cd and item_cd into gtt_item_cd. after that performed the query and in where clause we are comparing the values with gtt.
    can you please suggest me what to do for PDF Reports

    How come you are populating a temporary table and then opening a cursor on this temporary table for the front end to use?
    Couldn't you presumably just form a query out of the code you use to populate the temporary table? This is the recommended approach in Oracle.

    A view is just a stored query. It can be on global temporary tables or regular one, makes no difference.

    I'm using Data Modeler 4.0.1.836 and whatever I put in the "temp table scope" box for a global temporary table doesn't seem to affect the DDL script regarding the ON COMMIT PRESERVE/DELETE ROWS option. The script always shows ON COMMIT PRESERVE ROWS no matter what.
    Yet, some of my temporary tables must be created as ON COMMIT DELETE ROWS.
    The Data Modeler help says the following about this :
    Temp Table Scope:
    For a table classified as Temporary, you can specify a scope, such as Session or Dimension.
    Not sure what "Dimension" has to do with the scope here, but it doesn't make any difference.
    I tried putting "Session", "Dimension", "Transaction", but no luck. So what's the text to put for the script to generate ON COMMIT DELETE ROWS?

    Hi,
    The Temporary Table Scope property (on the Classification Types page of the Table Properties dialog) is purely documentary.
    To set ON COMMIT DELETE ROWS you should expand the Browser node for the Relational Model and look for the node for the relevant Oracle Physical Model.  If you expand this you will find an entry there for your Table. Double-click on this to get the Physical Model properties dialog for your table, and you will find a "Temporary"  property which has options YES (Preserve Rows), YES (Delete Rows) or NO.

    To create a global temporary table inside a stored procedure,
    the minimal syntax would be:
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE procedure_name
    AS
    BEGIN
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'CREATE GLOBAL TEMPORARY TABLE table_name'
    || '(column_name NUMBER)';
    END procedure_name;
    As Todd stated, it would probably be better to create the global
    temporary table outside of the procedure:
    SQL> CREATE GLOBAL TEMPORARY TABLE table_name
    2 (column_name NUMBER);
    Table created.
    You can also specify things like ON COMMIT PRESERVE ROWS or ON
    COMMIT DELETE ROWS.
    It may be that there is something else, like a PL/SQL table of
    records or a cursor, that would suit your needs better. It is
    difficult to guess without knowing what you want to do with it.

    I have a forms module which shows two blocks. The first block is based on a normal database table EMP and the second one is based on a global temporary table SAL_TEMP. There is a master-detail relation between the two blocks. So far, in Designer I created two normal database tables EMP and SAL_TEMP and created a foreign key with validation level "none" from the table SAL_TEMP to the table EMP. By creating the foreign key, Designer generates code to automatically synchronize the data between the master and the detail block in my form.
    In the latest version of Designer it is finally possible to indicate a table as a global temporary table. But when I try to change my table SAL_TEMP to a global temporary table (session) I get an error that this is not allowed because my table contains foreign keys. So the Designer team finally implemented this feature but it is useless to me.
    Can someone explain to me the reason of this restriction?

    Just out of curiosity - which version of Designer supports the creation of global temp tables? We are running version 9.0.2.80.6 and, as far as I am award, this does not support it (unless I am being really thick!) - is this new 10g Dev. Suite functionality?

  • Transaction with Global Temporary Table

    Problem:
    Transaction starts with few DML statements and in the middle we are calling a JAVA method which creates the dynamic global temporary table and proceeding with few DML statements, if one of the statement fails, in the exception clause we are trying to rollback and transactions after the DDL (create global temp table) are rolled back and transactions before the DDL (create global temp table) are committed.
    We cannot pre-create the global temporary table, since we do not know the number of temp table to be pre-created.
    How we can resolve this issue? The same concept works for SQL server.
    Example of our issue:
    --drop table table1 purge;
    --drop table t_id purge;
    Create table table1 (col1 number, col2 varchar2(20));
    Insert into table1 values (1, 'Test1');
    Create global temporary table t_id (id number);
    Insert into table1 values (2, 'Test2');
    Rollback;
    After the rollback you can see only the 'Test1' record.

    I don't see how one procedure could need to create an unknown number of temporary tables. Do they all have different (and unknown) column lists? Couldn't you combine them into a single table with a key to distinguish betweeen the different sets of rows?

  • Global temporary table in PL/SQL called from APEX page

    I have a global temporary table in a PL/SQL procedure that is called from an APEX page.
    The global temp table is populated with data as the procedure runs and then at the end of the procedure I do a create_collection_from_query_b to populate a collection with the data from the temp table. (I do this b/c it is much faster than creating the collection and doing an add_member for each row.)
    The problem is that there are no commits in my procedure but I cannot get the bulk insert to work unless I define the temp table as on commit preserve rows.
    Can anyone shed any light on this issue.

    i have created a global temporary table with ON COMMIT DELETE ROWS option. in my Function in a loop i m inserting values into this Table, after that loop closes and then i m selecting some other values from DB. and in the last i am returning a ref cursor which is selecting values from temporary table i hav created.
    now the thing is i m not getting any values in the cursor.
    later I have created the table with ON COMMIT PRESERVE ROWS option, in this case cursor returning values,
    can anyone explain me the functionality, as per my knowledge global temporary table values are session specific so why i m not getting the values in the 1st case when i used ON COMMIT DELETE ROWS (same session).

    Ok, here's a simple example, like we'd like to see from you not working....
    First create a GTT with ON COMMIT DELETE ROWS...
    SQL> ed
    Wrote file afiedt.buf
      1* create global temporary table mytable (x number) on commit delete rows
    SQL> /
    Table created.Now a simple function that populates the GTT and returns a ref cursor to the data without doing any commits (hence the data should be there!)
    SQL> ed
    Wrote file afiedt.buf
      1  create or replace function pop_table return sys_refcursor is
      2    v_rc sys_refcursor;
      3  begin
      4    insert into mytable
      5    select rownum from dual connect by rownum <= 10;
      6    OPEN v_rc FOR SELECT x FROM mytable;

    SQL> /
    Function created.So now we call the function and get a reference to our ref cursor...
    SQL> var v_a refcursor;
    SQL> exec :v_a := pop_table();
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.So, in principle, because no commits have been issued the ref cursor should return data...

    Now, what happens if we do that again...

    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.... but this time we commit before retrieving the data...
    SQL> commit;
    Commit complete.
    SQL> print v_a;
    ERROR:
    ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: [kcbz_check_objd_typ_1], [0], [0], [1], [], [], [], []
    no rows selected
    SQL>Oracle has (correctly) lost reference to the data because of the commit.
    So show us what yours is doing.
