If your Mac qualifies for Mavericks you should be able to upgrade to Yosemite when it's released this fall.
OS X Mavericks: System Requirements
To install Mavericks, you need one of these Macs:
          ▪          iMac (Mid-2007 or later)
          ▪          MacBook (13-inch Aluminum, Late 2008), (13-inch, Early 2009 or later)
          ▪          MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later),
          ▪          MacBook Pro (15-inch or 17-inch, Mid/Late 2007 or later)
          ▪          MacBook Air (Late 2008 or later)
          ▪          Mac mini (Early 2009 or later)
          ▪          Mac Pro (Early 2008 or later)
          ▪          Xserve (Early 2009)

  • Error message: have mail version 4.3 (1081/1084). Can't be used with mac/ox version 10.6.8.  Help?

My son deleted the mail application.  Tried to to re-install it from download version.  Get error message:  You have mail version 4.3 (1081/1084).  Cannot be used with Mac O/S version 10.6.8. build 10K549.  Any suggestions?

    Hi ...
The Mail app is not available for downloading.
You need to reinstall the Mail app from your install discs.

  • I deleted my Mail app sometime back. I reinstalled it again, today, on my Macbook Snow Leopard Mac OS but when I try launching Mail, it says ' You have Mail version 4.0(1075/1085). It can't be used on Mac OS X version 10.6.8(Build 10K549)",

The Mail version for your machine is 4.6 (1085)   You can get it via the Combo updater.  Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1
Then follow with software updates to pick up the most recent security and iTunes updates.

    Therefore black birds are crows.
The build I have is the released build of Mail. I reinstalled it as directed and it didn't help. That indicates that the problem is with my version of OS X.
The build you have is the released build of 10.8.5.  You reinstalled it as directed and it didn't help. That indicates it is a problem with your version of Mail.
The above are examples of flawed logic.
Seriously now. Since you obviously don't know what a Combo Update is, I will tell you. A Combo Update is short for a COMBINATION of Updates. That means that there is MORE THAN ONE update in a Combo Update. It is, therefore, quite proper to speak of "one of the Combo Updates". For people whose first language is not English and are not familiar with its subtle nuances, perhaps I should have said "One of the updates contained within the Combo Update was"
"There aren't "versions" of the combo update, unless Apple releases a revision"?
This is plain silly. It means "There aren't versions unless there are"
Also I didn't use the word "version". See above for the explanation of what I DID say.
Are you one of those TROLLS I keep hearing about?
I hope you got a lot of phoney Help points for not actually helping.
Don't bother replying, I won't come back to this thread, so I wont see it. Of course you'll get another phoney Help point, so I suppose you will, but I'll never know. Doesn't that mess with your head?
    Bye Bye
    What an attitude you have.
Erase your drive and reinstall correctly, stop messing about with incremental patches. The routine you need is BERR (backup, erase, reinstall, restore) or just stay as yu are, it is entirely up to you.

The depth of your ignorance shows here, there are no phoney points, only ones awarded by posters who receive solutions, and only at the original posters choice.

You need to look for more than one copy of the Mail app on your computer. What has resulted is a "hybrid" version that never existed. We have seen this a few times before, and it likely results from something being in the wrong place during the update. Probably the best way to handle is to either find another version on your computer some place, or delete the current version in the Applications folder, install only the Mail app from the installation discs, and immediately apply the latest Combo Update to advance it the proper version.

Awesome, thanks for the suggestion. I'll try it when I get home this evening.

How to install application Mail from Optional Installs on Mac OS X Install DVD?

Download and run the 10.6.8 combo updater from Apple. That should get your Mail app up to the latest version.

  • Mac mail version 4.5(1084/1085) can't be used on Mac OS X Version 10.6.8(Build 10K549)

At some stage today I did an update which has killed Mac Mail.
I have read the forums, performed a combo update 10.6.8 with no result, I still get the error
You have Mail version 4.5(1084/1085). It can't be used on OS X Version 10.6.8 ( Build 10K5489)
    Any thoughts?

Thanks mate but Software update is indicating that I am all up to date.
I have booted off an older clone and mail was fine. I may have to go for a fresh install of the system but it annoys me to have to do that. It's gotta be something simple!

    How do i fix this?
i have uninstalled and reinstalled mail, i have done software updates and it still comes up, im so confused

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
By some reason, Mac OS X has kept a Mail version that it's not compatible with your Mac OS X version instead of updating Mail. First, I recommend a 10.6.8 reinstall > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
If this doesn't work, reinstall Mac OS X. Insert the Mac OS X Snow Leopard DVD, hold the C key while your computer is starting and reinstall Mac OS X

  • I downloaded the latest version of iTunes, and now my mail won't open. It displays this message now-You have Mail version 5.3 (1283/1278). It can't be used on Mac OS X Version 10.7.4 (Build 11E53). For more information, click the Help button. Strange.

    STRANGE, RIGHT?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
They are different problems because I doubt that iTunes has been able to modify Mail, that has nothing to do with iTunes.
As you are running 10.7.4, download and install OS X 10.7.5, the most recent Lion version > http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1582 After installing the update, you should be able to run Mail

  • Ive got poblems with my thundebolt display conected to my macbook pro 13 inch mid 2011

im running a thunderbolt display with a macbook pro 13 inch, the display shuts off by itself, also when the macbook goes to sleep and its woken up the thunderbolt display stays off and i need to restart the sistem, the macbook also dosent recognize the display as soon as i turn it on i have to play around with it for a while conecting disconecting the thunderbolt cable for it to work, ive also got problems to eject the display as it is not shown as a disk.
any oe else have this problem, ive searched forums and youtube and no articles exist on thunderbolt displays and macbook pros 13 inch.

It's possible that it's the same for all registrations, even though the MacBook Pro and the MacBook Air products are distinctly different. That information is autofilled, probably based on the serial number of your product, so even though it may say it's a MacBook Air, Apple may just be bundling all MacBooks under one group and labeling them MacBook Pro. But the serial number would tell them exactly which model you have, so there's nothing to worry about.
AppleCare Protection is based on the product group, so all MacBooks would be the same price, just as all iMacs would be the same price.

  • Mail version 4.5(1084/1085) can't be use on Mac OS X 10.6.8(Build 10K549) ?  --- please help

I just clicked software updated and after installed items that showed me to install - now mail won't work at all.  I get the following message, "You have Mail version 4.2 (1084/1085).  It can't be used on Mac OS X Version 10.6.8 (Build 10K549). For more information, click the Help button."  Help offers three suggested fixes, none of which have worked.  What more can I do to fix this problem?
I also check that Mail.app is in the Application folder. So any suggestion would appreciate.
Ps. should I try to re-install the Security Update (2012-004) .... if yes how can I do it?
    Many thanks in advance.

I am currently using Firefox Version 1.5.0.12 on my iBook G4 with Mac OS X Version 10.3.9. I have problems using Facebook. I cannot confirm friend requests or view messages in the inbox for instance. What can I do?
== URL of affected sites ==
    http://facebook.com

Firefox 2.0.0.20 is the last ever release for Mac OSX 10.3.9 and earlier versions, but that may not work any better because some large websites are blocking those older browsers or dropping support for older browsers like IE6 & earlier, and Firefox 2 & earlier due to security issues.
Using Safari on those websites ''(not enough total users for websites to be concerned about)'', or installing a new version of MacOSX are two solutions; or getting a new computer.
