Can hear in sounds but can't hear message beep or when incoming call

I took my phone to a phone shop and the gentleman advised me to update my software, still nothing is happening

The following Knowledge Base article offers up some great, additional steps to try for troubleshooting issues with sound on your iOS device:
iPhone: No sound or distorted sound from speaker

Verify that the volume is set to a level you would normally be able to hear.
Ensure that there is nothing plugged in to the headset jack or the dock connector.
If the iPhone is in a protective case, make sure that the speaker port isn't blocked by the case.
Make sure that the speaker and dock port aren't clogged with debris. If necessary, clean it with a clean, small, dry, soft-bristled brush. Carefully and gently brush away any debris.
If an audio issue occurs when using a specific application, try testing other applications to see if the issue persists.
If the iPhone is paired with a Bluetooth headset or car kit:
Try turning off Bluetooth.
If you experience difficulties with the Bluetooth feature, follow these troubleshooting steps.
Restart the iPhone.
If restarting doesn't fix the issue, ensure that your iPhone is updated to the latest version of iOS.
If the issue is not resolved, please contact Apple Support.

    Don't jump all the way to restoring just yet.  Check to make sure there's nothing in the headphone jack, and nothing covering the microphones (including the noise cancelling microphone at the top next to the headset jack)

    3. Restore from backup. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766 (If you don't have a backup, make one now, then skip to the next step.)

    Test the issue after each step.  If the last one does not resolve the issue, it is likely a hardware problem.

    I experience this problem too. I am using iPhone4 and just upgrade it to iOS7. And now I can not make outgoing call. I checked all the setting, and nothing wrong. I even replaced my sim card with the new one, still can not help.

    Ok, can I receive messages from Skype when my ipad and iPod touch are off, and the app is closed? Becuase my mom sent me a message and I did nott receive it. I have to have the app running or running in the background to receive messages. Is there a way to recieve messages when my ipad and ipod do NOT have the app running?

    The ipad may keep a connection alive in sleep mode.. but it should only use local connection AFAIK, and no internet content.
    I have a similar setup with iPad and although it has an IP it is not actually reachable on the network. I will track usage and see if it is actually using anything but I would doubt it.
    Now of course it may depend on what apps you have running. I really doubt the ipad will be using that much of your download unless you are watching movies on it.

    It's not clear why Apple made this change; speculation (which is not really allowed in these forums) is that it was done to protect the privacy of the caller.

    I've checked my settings to make sure it 's on "tone" and loud with my ringer, and ensured it was not on mute. However, whenever my phone rings, I can't hear it, no sound comes through. I've been missing lots of calls the last couple of days cause it rings with no audio.

    Have you already tried reinserting your battery and switching ringtones as a test?

    You are probably pressing mute button and don't know it, look at Proximity sensor problem posts.
    If this doesn't work, you can try to play around with the earphones more (i.e. plugging it in and unplugging it several times). Maybe it works.

    I have an iPhone 6 Plus 64 GB.  Running iOS 8.0.2 (latest version at time of post).
    Is there any way for me to change my incoming ringtone from "default" to "announce the incoming callers name".  Instead of an actual ring EX: "Incoming call from "dad" (contact name)"
    I have looked through 3rd party apps and other forums.  This technology is archaic, so I am sure there must be some way that it can be done.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    As Allan mentioned, custom ringtones allow for this.
    "9,999 Ringtones Uncensored" allows you to create any message which you then assign to a specific contact. Examples: "Hank is calling," "Hank Smith is calling," "It's your spouse," or whatever you like. The customization is nice, but creating one for each contact is tedious. I use this app, and created about a half dozen or so just for family and close friends. Others get generic tones assigned to them. This app also has a variety of voices to choose from such as funny, robotic, etc.
    Bear in mind, in public anyone around you may hear who's calling also. "Mom's calling." Hope this helps.

  • IPhone 4 software issue. Cannot hear or be heard when making call

    Hi there,
    A few days ago, out of the blue, I lost the ability to be able to hear or be heard when on a call on my iPhone 4.
    On a call, no matter which output I use, earpiece, earphones or speaker, I cannot hear the person on the other end speaking, and they cannot hear me talking. My phone will ring if someone is calling, and if I call someone their phone will connect, but from there I am completely muted/in silence.
    I do not believe this is a hardware related issue as I have tested both the microphone and speaker/s by making a Skype call to a friend which worked absolutely fine. I can also play music from my phone successfully through all of the iPhone outputs mentioned above.
    This is a super frustrating issue as I haven't dropped the phone or damaged any of the hardware.
    The only one software related thing I notice that is out of the ordinary is that when I do make a call, the 'speaker' icon is selected by default. Obviously I have attempted to deselect it, but have had no success in this making any difference.
    Any ideas?
    Of course where I live I don't have access to an Apple Store, and everywhere I take it locally I get the response - 'Sorry, we don't repair iPhones'

    I forgot to mention that I have reset all settings and restored the phone twice - once as a restore from a back up, and then a restore as a new phone. None of these methods worked and I'm still stuck with the same issue!

  • How can I change the display name when I call someone?

    I recently gave a re-provisioned 8300 to a new employee. I wiped out the phone, and re-setup the phone in our exchange server to match the new user's settings.
    The only problem he's having is that when he calls someone, the display name shows the previous users name as the person calling.
    How do I change that?

    You don't say what model the device is, but if GSM, make sure the SIM card has not been edited to the preview name.
    Options > Advanced > SIM card > Menu > Edit Sim Phone Number

  • I dropped my iPhone 5 and the screen is completely black and when i plug it into my computer it constantly beeps.  When I call it it doesn't go straight to voicemail but my phone doesn't ring.  Rebooting it doesn't work.  What is the problem?

    My screen has been cracked for a while now and today I dropped it and parts of the screen on top came off and the phone went completely black.  I tried calling it and it rings as usual on the line but my iphone doesn't make any sound.  I just plugged in my phone to my macbook and i am still able to import pictures and send imessages but while it's plugged in my phone constantly beeps..the same beeping as it does when its on the charger but it's just one beep every couple seconds.  People have been telling me it could be the LCD..any thoughts?

    If you don't know whether you have AppleCare+, you can find out warranty information by entering the serial number at http://selfsolve.apple.com. The serial number can be found under Settings > General > About > Serial Number, if you are still able to use the phone. If not, eject the SIM card tray from the right side of the phone using a paper clip or SIM unlock tool. It is in very tiny print on the rim of the tray.
    You cannot purchase AppleCare+ if it's been after 30 days or the phone has already been damaged like yours.

    CORRECTION:
         I installed the Twitter application on my ipod, the newest ipod, I believe its the 5th generation, with the iOS 5.0.1 and everytime I open the app, where my timeline should be it just says "Protected Tweets" and whenever I try to compose a tweet it says "Error posting message. There was an error posting your tweet. It has been saved as a draft, please try resending later. (Error:unauthorized)" Can anyone help me out ?

    Go into the iPad settings app and check your settings for twitter. I found that my password was short one character for some reason.

    I have a Skype number and when I receive a phone call on my Skype for Iphone from one of my Iphone contacts, Skype doesn't display the name of the caller.  It displays the phone number but not the name of the caller.  Of course, the same happens on the Recent tab.  The Recent tab doesn't show the contact's name.
    Any thoughts?
