Can Host ID be changed on Solaris 10
Recently upgraded an Ultra 10 from Solaris 2.6 to Solaris 10.
Problem:
We use an application that is no longer supported by the manufacturer. The application ran on the Ultra when it had Solaris 2.6. It required a specific host ID because it was originally licensed on a much older system. We cannot get a new license authorization for the application because the company is no longer in business.
To get around this, we used a program called "hid2" to change the host ID of the system. This temporarily changed the host ID on the Ultra and allowed the application to run.
After installing Solaris 10, I run the command "hid2 newhostid", and I get an error "cannot read namelist out of /dev/ksyms". The command to change the host ID is "hid2 newhostid" where newhostid is the ID required by the application.
Is this something with Solaris 10? It worked with the same hardware when the OS was Solaris 2.6.
I need an excutable program like hid2 because I'm not knowledgeable enough to compile C programs. There are several available on other websites but those that are excutabiles didn't work..
Does anyone know what to do? Do I need to install an older version of the OS? I've used 10 a little on a x86 system and like it. I'd like to upgrade this Ultra to 10.
Thank you.

Jonathan,
Keep in mind that the hints given in that Squirrel.Com link work for OBP 3.x systems, only.
When the time comes that you migrate to the next, newer system, it'll likely have an OBP design of 4.x or 5.x or 6.x, and the procedure will NOT work. The mkpl functions were deliberately removed by Sun.
So... it may now be the time to start a budget line item to save up to replace that software. Perhaps find a program that can take advantage of 21st Century computing, with 64bit and CMT architecture. <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_smile.gif" border=0 alt="Smile">

Control-k key binding broken. How can I check and change my key bindings?
I use the Terminal app a lot. Unfortunately I am not able to use the control-k shortcut to cut lines in the terminal anymore. How can I check (and change) the Terminal key bindings?
Thank you!Basing on your input, you should get the following values:
1) session keys
SK_ENC: 6DCE2A99BACB5207A7A96A92F114D66C
SK_MAC: 0D446132B168F75CD6F0A780693A4DD3
SK_DEK: 19F7B0F94837F32874B29B5EFB7809F6
2) host cryptogram
1B781553209748EA
3) Retail MAC
01761103B810F00E
Summing up, the External Authenticate command should have the following value: 84 82 01 00 10 1B781553209748EA 01761103B810F00E.
Try to compare it with your results.

Can no longer make changes on my site.
As the title says, I can no lonfger make changes to my site.
I have checked and rechecked the site access details and they are correct. Pressing the "Test" button under the Advanced settings in the site definitions for "Remote Info" tells me that Dreamweaver MX2004 connected successfully.
Can anyone tell me what might be wrong?I have been in touch with the hosting company and they have sorted the problem out for me. Thank you.
I don't see what the operating system would have to do with such a problem anyway .....
And thank you to Chris and to Murray for your responses. -
Changes in Solaris 10 Patch Access Policy
Solaris 10 x86 User Community
As of November 29th, Sun will be changing its Solaris 10 patch access policy. Now that Solaris 10 is freely available, support services require the purchase of a Sun Service Plan.
Under this new policy, access to patches is restricted. Security fixes and hardware driver updates are publicly available for free, but access to all other patches requires a Sun Service Plan.
Please see http://www.sun.com/service/sunconnection/solaris10patches.html for available access options.
Please send any questions to [email protected]hi,
As a technical specialist I can understand everyone needs revenues to keep on going. But $120 for a min. level service plan it's really foolish on the policy makers. This would result in severe dent for the Solaris initiative itself in the long run. There should be reasonable pricing model, especially when Sun is projecting Solaris as an alternative to Linux! I do strongly suggest as a loyal Sun developer since 1996 to re-consider the service plan rates.
thanks,

It was never tested on anything later than Tiger and running anything under Rosetta is a crapshoot as well.
Be aware that when CS6 ships sometime this spring (no official announcement yet, but all hints from Adobe point to a second quarter ship date) you will be completely out of the upgrade loop and will have to buy a full priced license for CS6 or move to Creative Cloud. There are some pretty good deals out there on CS5.5 upgrades.
Here’s the CS2 to CS5.5 Design Premium package: http://amzn.to/kZOsu7

Networking changes between Solaris 10 x86 10/08 (u6) and previous versions?
Solaris Community:
We have a J2SE CORBA-based application (that uses the default Sun ORB) that has run without problems on Solaris 8, 9, and 10 on both SPARC and, more recently, X86 platforms. Upgrading our client side machine (X4100 M2 Opteron platform) from Solaris 10 x86 5/08 (u5) to Solaris 10 x86 10/08 (u6) has resulted in threading or socket contention issues that we have not experienced previously. Using Live Upgrade, we can quickly go back to the u5 install on the client machine .... and the problems go away .... going back to u6, however, and the problems begin to show almost immediately. Our Java code base is identical as is the version of the JDK (1.5.0_16), so it would appear that there must be an underlying change to socket, networking, or threading behavior between these two versions of Solaris.
Thus far, I've not been unable to find details of changes either in the networking support or the threading model that might explain this .... or course, I don't have great expertise in these areas.
I've tried to use 'ndd /dev/tcp SOME_PARAMETER' for all of the /dev/tcp parameters returned by 'ndd /dev/tcp \?' to try to see if there are underlying changes in the /dev/tcp parameters .... but have not found any differences between Solaris 10 u5 and u6.
Can anyone point me to resources that would discuss changes between Solaris 10 u5 or u6 that might explain the problems that we've encountered? Or, alternatively, other system parameters that I could check that might explain changes in either TCP socket or threading behavior?
Thanks for your input,
JohnI have a vague memory of someone reporting something similar which turned out to be due to a solaris feature called tcp_fusion.
To check whether thats your problem or not try the following.
Add following line in the /etc/system file.
set ip:do_tcp_fusion = 0
Once the /etc/system file is updated, it will be necessary to restart the system before the workaround will take effect. -
Can i install flar image of solaris 10 from V890 to v480?
Team,
Please help me for a confusion that can i install flar image of solaris 10 from V890 to v480?
We have very good flar image of solaris 10 and want to install same on other machine.
this machine hosting the Oracle database on it.
Thanks
RaviGenerally speaking, as long as you are in the same processor family (4u, 4m, 4c, 4v etc) you can do so.
The caveat is that the OS has to support the particular model you are on. No worries with S10 though. -
[SOLVED] openssl: REMOTE HOST IDENTIFICATION HAS CHANGED! Hacked?
There's a bit of Windowsisms in here, but one of the main questions is about openssl. As well, this post could help others regardless of the OS involved.
I remote into a Windows 7 workstation at my work using xfreerdp going through Server 2008 R2. RDP is closed at the firewall to all but two IP addresses and neither of those uses port 3389. I'm connecting through NTLM for authentication then the connection is encrypted using TLS. FreeRDP uses openssl to handle SSL/TLS connections.
Last week I remoted in my workstation first thing in the morning as I always do with no problems. I went to work that day and everything was normal. Later that night I went to remote in again and I got the "WARNING: REMOTE HOST IDENTIFICATION HAS CHANGED!" message. I followed the advice in the message and contacted the system admin:
me wrote:skottish, were there any major changes in the system that could cause the RSA fingerprint to change?
skottish wrote:I don't think so skottish. There were no changes made to the system beyond a simple update to the server's spam filters.
There was nothing major that changed on the server and I wasn't anywhere in the system that could have forced a change. The only server-side work that I did was with some accounts in Active Directory and updated Exchange's spam filters.
The way that I see it, and I may be missing something, is that there are four possibilities:
1) A MITM attack. If this is the case then it was successful and I haven't tracked it down yet
2) Someone accidentally changed something in the server
3) Someone intentionally changed something in the server
4) The server made it's own changes (which sadly wouldn't be out of character for a MS server)
We do have an outside partner that has server access, but they told me that they weren't in there and I see no evidence to the contrary.
My first question is am I missing any other possibilities?
The second is how does openssl generate the RSA fingerprint of a computer? I've read many, many pages and so far I'm not finding any answers. If I could verify the fingerprint manually, that would help.
The third is that if it is a MITM attack, what are the appropriate steps to identify it? I went through all of the ARP tables on the server and the workstation looking to see if anything is out of line and everything looks fine. I could run a capture off of our firewall and see if there's anything there, but I don't know Wireshark all that well, so I'm not sure what I would be looking for exactly.
Thoughts?

Well, there was a clock change on my end that same day. For some reason openntpd was running about two minutes behind and it had been since I migrated to systemd. I switched to ntpd in order to correct it. I can't imagine why a change on the client side would make a difference though. But, I'm open to the possibility.
--EDIT--
I tried some experiments with openntpd, ntp, and changing clocks and such, but I couldn't trigger the error. I'm still open to the possibility though.
-- RESOLUTION EDIT --
It's not worth bumping this thread over the resolution of this, but someone may be interested in what happened for their own reference later.
I realized that I was looking in the wrong direction and discovered that Windows automatically changed security keys for reasons that I don't understand yet. openssl did it's job perfectly. There was a force that wasn't the system administrator that made changes to the security of the system on a machine that hadn't changed physically. Is it possible that there has been an attack still? Yes, it's just much more unlikely now.

When I start Firefox, about 15 seconds after I start it, my Firefox freezes for about 1 minute. I found out that it is my Hotmail that makes Firefox freeze.
First I thought it was my computer, but I have 2 other girls in my class that use Hotmail and Firefox and their computer also freezes for 1 full minute.
This is very annoying, what can I do to change this?

p.s. I am from the Netherlands, maybe that has something to do with it?Try deleting cookies and cache:

My macbook pro's screen display has suddenly gone into a strange colour setting where everything appears in a kind of infrared colour palette an I can;t seem to change it back. It's the same for all icon and websites, does anyone know how to restore?
Wow! I think I had this same issue just last night.
I was cleaning my macbook pro retina on the outside. Then I opened it up and was wiping dust off the monitor and I can't pinpoint exactly when, but the colors changed suddenly. It looked super strange, it was like green halo's and it looked worse when looking at it at an angle. Of course I took no pictures!!! I was freaking out that my 2 grand laptop was busted and I somehow removed a protective film or something.
But I digress... The image looked very green and spacey, it was almost a neat effect. After about 5 minutes it started to look a little more digital though. There were straight lines of this halo effect on the edges and top. After about 10 minutes it turned into a predominate issue with the blacks on screen. I could open a web browser and it was unnoticable on a white background. After about 15 minutes, you could only barely see the green cloud effect if you looked at the monitor from an extreme angle. After about 20 minutes, it was completely back to normal, I almost feel paranoid like I see a halo or something strange. But I believe that might be all in my head now.
So yerp, lemme know what you guys figure out. -
Can I send a Pages document to a client who can then manipulate or change them on their end?
You can export the Pages document to Word or text instead of Pages but I advise you to first save the document in the native Pages format. Still best is if you reciever get the applicationif you are going to do a lot of editing on documents.
About setting the computer etc. I don't know what the person was thinking off. -
In the document attached the vi on the right is sub to the vi on the left. On the subvi on the right the variable "Field Reading" is continuously updated on the front panel of the subvi as the "for" loop is executed, but only the last value of the variable is updated on the main vi front panel which is what is expected. My question is how can I display the changing value of "Field Reading" on the main vi front panel as the "for" loop in the subvi is running?
Thank you.

Doc2.docx 554 KBHopefully I can explain it well enough. It really is simple.
1) Create an empty global variable and call it something like User Interface References.vi
2) For each and every control and indicator on your front panel, right-click and select Create/Reference
3) Place these references wherever you like (I use a series of Event cases to perform my initialisation and these all live in one of these event cases). They can be placed anywhere in the main vi.
4) For each of the references, right-click and select Create/Indicator
5) Moving to the front panel, Cut all the indicators and Paste them in the global variable (eg. User Interface References.vi)
6) Moving back to the block diagram, wire the global variable to each of the references and select the same named global variable.
All the hard work is now done (until you add another user interface terminal). You should now have something that look as shown below, [except the reference labels would be to the left (not sure why the snippet put them above)]. In my latest program I have 82 references!
Done. You can now access all your front panel controls and indicators anywhere in your program as shown below.
You can just select Value in most cases, but in this particular case I wanted to fire off an Event to do some things (log the alarm) as well as just update the value. So, this is another bonus with the method.
Hopefully this all makes sense. If not, let me know. -
I have 2 I phone which is using same apple id to back to icloud and restore it. I want to use different id on the one phone what can I do or change the id?
Welcome to the Apple community.
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your iOS device, you need to delete the account from your iOS device first, then add a new account by tapping the "create Apple ID" button. (Settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit "Delete Account") -
I changed my Apple ID. What can I do to change my icloud ID also so that they are the same.
If you used the "Manage your Apple ID" login at https://appleid.apple.com to simply change your primary email address of your existing AppleID, then all you need do is log out of iCloud and then log back in with the new email. If on an iOS device, go to settings, delete the iCloud account, and then log back into it with the new email address.
If you actually created a wholly new AppleID, then you cannot change that for your existing iCloud address. You can make a new iCloud account with the new AppleID. But your current iCloud login would continue to use the same AppleID as its login. -

You can not change the date of birth on the account. Apple makes that clear up front when the account is created.
The only way to "fix" this is going to be for him to create a new account with the correct information. Any apps purchased with the old one will need to be re-purchased with the new account. They can not be transferred.
