I have an hp 20-inch led backlit monitor but cannot get it to work on my macbook.
(it does work on my microsoft computer. I get just the background pic on the desktop, but
nothing else comes thru. is it possible?

How did you set up external display with Preferences > Display?
And what version of OS X are you using?

I have a World Travel Adapter Kit for use with my iPad when traveling abroad. I know this charger can be used on an iPhone, can the plug adapters also be used with the charger of a Mac Book Pro or is a special converter required?

Is there any concern about the type of travel adapter kit? For instance, some instructions indicate they are for heat creating appliances (hairdryers, curling irons, etc.). I bought such a set, but do they present any issues if used with more delicate electronic circuitry (for iPads, iPods, or with camera battery chargers). Can a dvi-d monitor be used with a C5U89AT

I have an existing Compaq Elite 8300 that currently is utilizing a HP2509m monitor. I want to use dual monitors and would like to use a C5U89AT dual port USB Graphics adapter and add a second HP2509m monitor. The spec sheet says the C5U89AT supports DVI-I and display port. The HP2509m provides DVI-D and VGA connections. Not sure if a DVI-D monitor would work or not. HP has available a display port to DVI-D adapter but not sure if this would be needed or work with the Graphics Adapter?

Yes, this adapter will supply a DVI-D signal on its DVI-I output. DVI-I supports both analog (VGA) and digital (HDMI and DVI) signals.

Hello, I have the Curve 8330. I was very excited to put 5.0 on my phone. As soon as a carrier released it for the 8330, I put it on my phone. I loved the new features. I like the bedside mode, the clock now had a stopwatch, using SMS was like using instant messaging and had smiley’s you could send, the media player worked much faster and when watching videos, you could actually scroll by seconds and not minutes. Moving icons around was made easier by more options.
Now all that said, as much as I liked the software, after about 3 months I took it off. Even though RIM has said the software would be for the 8330, I don't believe it has the processing power for it. I was always looking at hour glasses. I tried deleting applications and only having the main programs running in the background, but it still didn't help. Even if you can put up with that, there seemed to be some kind of bug in the software. Something had a big memory leak. I tried to delete different parts of the software to find out what was causing it, but I never found out. I had to reboot my phone several times a day because it would tell me I was out of memory. Once you rebooted it would have plenty of space, but hour after hour, the phone would lose memory.
So there you go, some of the applications on your 4.5 won't work on 5.0 so you have to uninstall ther old version and reinstall the new version. So I hope I have saved you all the time I wasted. My advice would be to get the 9650 when it comes out.

Can't chat with friends who use AIM unless .mac friends host group chat

For some reason, I can only text chat with my friends who use iChat with AIM accounts. When my friends with .mac accounts are on iChat, we can use video conference and send pictures via text easily.
The only way I can video conference with my AIM friends (and send pictures) is if the .mac friends host the chat. We've all made sure we're using the upgraded softwares, and we're all using iChat AV 3.1.8... We all have the correct preferences according to iChat help, as well as meet all requirements listed on the Apple site.
I have found no record of anyone else having this problem, nor can I find anything that remotely relates to anything similar.
What are we doing wrong??? Has anyone else experienced this?

Can you list how the ports are opened or allowed in each device ?
If I understand you correctly can you add the other screen name to the other computer's iChat and see if it is computer related.
If you have done Port Forwarding then it is most likely this is to one computer. This would only allow one computer at your end to Video chat. (adding the other screen nmae should give you Video on both screen names). As you have changed the Login port to 443 for everyone you will be able to Text chat as this is below port 1024 which is where the ports need to opened if above this number.
As File sharing (sending Pics is on Port 5190 and UDP protocol this has not been moved and would explain why it can not be done.

Can an external hard drive be used for two Mac compters each using for Time Machine or must I have two hard drives?

I'm upgrading from Leopard to Snow Leopard and need to provide system back-up. Are there any especially good drives?

I like, and use, external hard drives that OWC sells, as many of them use Oxford chipsets, which work well with macs.
Also, the BackPack is handy to use with an iMac to get a drive off the desktop.

How can I convert .voc files to use on my Mac?

I bought a little RCA audio recorder which works great... except that my iMac doesn't seem to recognize the .voc files that the recorder produces. I tried "Switch", but it didn't do any better. I tried "Sox", but immediately got a message that it quit unexpectedly. WHAT MIGHT WORK??????

All other browsers have some means for changing the user agent string. This MAY be enough if the site is only checking for a specific browser for one of a host of reasons. If the site uses some kind of IE specific code, then a simple user agent string change won't help, and you're pretty much stuck.

Trouble sending e-mails using OUTLOOK for MAC ;MAC I-PAD or I-PHONE.

I have the 3 devises MAC; I-PAD and I-Phone. My normal e-mail account was working fine then suddenly it stopped SENDING mail (I can still receive).
I am using OUTLOOK for MAC as my mail account.
My regular laptop works perfectly with all the same settings-it is only my apple devises.
I have attempted the following:
Reboot.
Checked all settings and changed both the smtp and the outgoing port.
Contacted the various service provider who have checked all of their settings and all is fine.
I get an error message saying OUTLOOK CAN NOT FIND THE SERVER or SERVER CONNECTION HAS FAILED, but sitting right next to me the laptop is sending/receiving as normal.
Any ideas??

Strategy for using device on Mac & Windows?

I just started a new job and am back in the wonderful world of Windows. I still use macs [PowerPC of various types] at home and will try to get a MacBook at work after I have been there a little while.
Meanwhile, however, I am stuck with deciding how to go forward with syncing:
I can get all my contacts syncing via Plaxo.
That leaves me with my appointments:
I have not currently worked-out how to get my a mac through the corporate VPN, so I can't try any of the solutions that claim to be able to sync with an Exchange Server.
I tried the option of using my Sony Ericsson K750i as an intermediary, but that screwed things up because it only supports a single calendar. Otherwise it worked quite well. (I guess I could merge my personal and work activities into one calendar - after all they are one and the same on the phone - but that seems a last resort especially as I don't want to load-up all my personal appointments to Exchange.)
Any ideas would be gratefully received!

I have just discovered that I can attach my iTouch ( which is used on a Mac ) to both a Mac & Windows without having to 're-format' . One this is great as I was under the impression that you could only use an iPod on only one or the other 'but' not both with-out re-formatting.
All new(er) iPods come Windows formatted straight out of the box, and as a Mac can read a Windows formatted iPod that's why you can use it on both platforms without the need to reformat. So maybe yours is still Windows formatted? Some folks who use Macs leave them like that.
Older iPods (I think) were Mac formatted out of the box and so wouldn't work natively on Windows because Mac formatted iPods cannot be read by Windows without the need to use 3rd party software, so the answer is if you want to use it on both platforms without using additional software, then leave it Windows formatted.
Various iTunes/iPod updates along the way have nothing to do with this.

I like to hook my laptop up to a larger monitor and work that way while at home with an external keyboard hooked up by usb. I am using an older mac keyboard but its hard to see the keys if the room is not well lit. Can someone recommend a backlit external keyboard to use with the macbook pro that has a number pad? Logitech makes a USB-powered backlit keyboard but it is for Windows PCs. You should check its Web site to see if it has a similar one for Macs.

Not going to happen the way you want it to.
When you add a gift card balance to the Apple ID, it's available for the Apple ID.
Probably best to create unique Apple ID's for each... this will also make things easier in the future as purchases are eternally tied to the Apple ID they were purchased with.
