Can i access MSN without wi-fi network?

Can i access MSN without Wi-Fi network? I mean, this might sound incredibly stupid but can I run apps such as MSN, Skype, FaceTime, through the 3G network? Without connecting to a wireless network? For example, if you're somewhere else other than home, at the mall, on a trip, will those apps still work?
Thank you.

Face Time is WiFi only. The others should work just fine over 3G.

  • Can't access any shares on the network

    Hi,
As the topic says, I can't access any shares on the network. I've tried connecting to a Iomega NAS, Windows 7 laptop, and a macMini. In the "Shared" list in finder im able to see all the shares, I'm able to click them and see the folders they share, but when I try to open one of the folders I get an error, no matter which share it is:
+"The operation can’t be completed because the original item for “<folder name>” can’t be found."+
The shares can all access each other, and they can access my folders. I just can't access any folder on the network.
I got a mac pro with osx 10.6.2 and have all the latest updates.
How can I solve this problem?
    Thanks.

Well, try this (I was able to fix my with these steps):
    Go Utilities > Disk Utility
Select your Startup Disk, e.g. Macintosh HD
Then, under the First Aid Tab, click Verify Disk Permissions.
If there are errors, then click repair Disk Permissions.
After it is done, restart the computer and see if your problem is resolved.
    I hope this help.

  • Why does my iPod clock keep changing and then I can't access anything without connecting charger

Recently my iPod keeps changing time. It's seems to be losing time. When this happens I can't access anything without connecting lead and turning it off briefly.

    Could the battery be dying?
Have yu tried the standard fixes:
    - Reset:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore the iPod from backup via iTunes
    - Restore the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod.

  • I can access my time capsule from my mac mini at work but my macbook can only access it from my home network. how do i fix this?

I have a Mac Mini and a MacBook, both were configured at home to access the time capsule. I have since moved the mini to work to use there and it has no issues looking up files on the time capsule which remains at home. The macbook whoever can only access the time capsule from within the home network. I can't seem to find what I may have done differently. Can anybody help?
Not sure if your allowed to post two questions, but it's may be related. I find that accessing the files on the time capsule from the mac mini or the macbook is very slow. Accessing the same files from an older HP laptop is as fast as accessing its own hard drive. How can I speed up the accessing of these files from my apple products. One would think they would work fast and the 'windows' computers would take minutes to map the drive each time...
    Thanks for any help.

I have since moved the mini to work to use there and it has no issues looking up files on the time capsule which remains at home.
This cannot happen by magic though.. you must have configured the mini to access the TC remotely.. which method are you using, BTMM and iCloud??
The macbook whoever can only access the time capsule from within the home network. I can't seem to find what I may have done differently. Can anybody help?
How is the Macbook configured to access the TC remotely?? If you are trying to use BTMM and iCloud, then it might be a case that with the mini running the connection cannot be done by more than one computer at a time.. this is generally the case although I do not know if that is specifically true of BTMM method. Try turning off the mini and leave it off.. (off not standby)... then reboot the TC when you are at home.. and then try and connect the laptop to the TC the next morning from work. See if it is then able to capture the connection.. if so start up the mini and I suspect it now will not be able to connect.. that will prove that the TC cannot cope with two remote connections.
There also could be another factor in here. If you are accessing the laptop via the same router as the mini is on.. then actually you cannot have two users mount the same files on a TC.. from the same IP address.. as far as the TC is concerned both devices have identical IP, that is the public IP of the work location router.
If you happen to not be using BTMM then the situation is even easier.. you cannot make two different devices connect to the same network resource using the same port. That is the failing of the NAT system.. one device uses the port then it cannot be used by a second device. You will need to do some fancy footwork and use a different port.
Anyhow tell us exactly how you are doing remote access.. otherwise I am just guessing.

Are you talking about files you are hosting on the TC?? Not Time Machine backups??
Can you tell me exactly how you are accessing the TC.. please do a test..
Copy a file to the TC and from the TC using the Laptop.. Use a single very large file, eg 1GB movie file.
Give me a read and write speed.. you can use activity monitor to give me an aprox average speed as well as peak.
Do the same test from the same computer with wireless turned off running ethernet.
Then do the tests from the mini.. same ones.. copy large file to and from the TC by ethernet and by wireless.. when using ethernet make sure wireless is off.
I strongly recommend you set IPv6 to link local only for your wireless and ethernet setup in the Mac.
    eg
Now do the test from the HP laptop and give me the results from that.
Is the issue wireless only.. ??
Then you might need to spend a bit of time fixing the wireless in the Macs.. you can run wireless diagnostics in Mavericks.

  • Can't access reader without purchasing full program!

I have Vista and can't access the reader and pdf's; receive a message that the full product has to be purchased to continue?!

Really doesn't have anything to do with Reader, does it?

  • HT2421 If I attach a hard drive to the USB port, can I access it from the wired network, while simultaneously creating a separate wifi network with NO access to the hard drive?

I already have a wireless network (call it Network A) with connectivity to various wired and wireless devices.  I have a USB hard drive that I directly attach to my MacBook Air.  I use it for Time Machine backups and general storage.  I would like to move this drive to an AirPort Extreme.  I would like to continue to be able to reach it via Network A, but also use the AirPort to create a guest Network (Network B).  I don't want the guest network to access the hard drive.
Now, I know I can plug a hub into the USB port and put (I hear up to 3) hard drives on it.  Can I determine which ones are accessable by Network A, and by Network B?
    Bonzo...

    Several things to consider.
You cannot create a wireless network for guests if the AE is bridged. It has to be the main router in the network.
You cannot use the existing TM backups on the USB drive.. if you plug into a network it will need to be wiped.. and only AC model can produce reliable TM backups.. the earlier models are not reliable for TM backups.
    See http://pondini.org/TM/Airport.html
These two factors alone may be enough to make you reconsider.
If you can create a guest network.. and you can overcome the limitations of airdisks.. then any person on the guest network should not be able to access the disk drive.. but if you wish to go ahead Bob Timmons might be able to confirm it.. I stay away from USB drives on routers.. I do not and will not use a router as a NAS.. it is underpowered and simply unsuitable long term.. a cheap single disk NAS is many times faster.. more reliable.. and has a marvellous thing called backup.. no USB disk or even internal disk in a TC can back itself up. .nor can TM backup network drives.. so any data you store on a USB drive is going to be gone one day.. unless you go to great lengths to back it up .. to where.. another USB drive plugged into another router somewhere.. the definition of slow.. should be copying files between two usb drives in an apple network using wireless. You will experience new levels of pain and suffering.. likened to the belly of the Sarlacc.

  • IPhone can't access internet via home Airport network

    Hello,
a work colleague of mine has an iMac at home with a single Airport Express unit through which he plays music. He connects his iMac to the internet via an ethernet cable. He has just purchased an iPhone with an Orange contract. His son also has an iPhone through his employer.
Neither my colleague nor his son can access the internet with their iPhones via my colleague's home Airport network. Both iPhones recognise the Airport network, evidenced by the 'fan' icon that appears on their iPhones.
    (Hope the above makes sense.)
I have emailed my colleague several 'help' articles, including those put out by Apple. My colleague has also communicated with someone from Apple (AppleCare I think?) but the problem persists.
Both iPhones apparently perform okay apart from this one irritating instance. Can anyone suggest what is wrong?
    Many thanks,
    Bob.

If it's an N Airport, I have heard that iPhones don't play well with N routers even if they are backward compatible with G.
Otherwise, they could try going into Settings/Wifi. See if the network shows up. Try clicking on it and see if it connects.
If that doesn't work click on the little arrow on the right side next to the network. This will reveal the network settings. Make sure that it's set on DHCP if that is how they acquire an IP address or static if that's what they use. If it's static, you'll have to put in the settings.

  • Can i access music without internet connection?

Can I use my ipod touch to play music that is stored in the cloud when i am away from an internet connection? If not, can I keep copies on the device so they're available locally? Do I need to disable ICloud to do this? As it is now, even when I have internet connection, there is a delay between songs while they download. It would be much better if it were the old way and copies just stayed on the phone/ipod/ipad.

If I want my entire music library on my IOS device, or on my computer, then it sounds like I must either download or play all of my music at least once, after I turn on Match.  Is this correct?  I want to have access to all (or nealry all) of my music for long periods where I will be without internet access (e.g. long flights).
Can I do a MATCH, without deleting all the music on my IOS device?

  • Can't access IMAP outside of local network

    Hi all,
Let me start by saying I'm a novice, so I apologize in advance if this message is missing any important details.
I am running OSX Server 10.4, which I use as my mail server. From within my local network (192.168.0.X) all of my mail services work as expected: POP, SMTP, IMAP, SquirrelMail etc.
However, if I try to access my mail from an external network, I can't connect with IMAP. But the weird thing is that everything else still works: POP, SMTP, SquirrelMail etc, so I'm just wondering if there is some particular setting somewhere that stops IMAP from accepting outside connections?
If you need more info about my config, please just ask.
    Thanks,
    Bruce

    Hi
Sounds like you haven't opened up the relevant port on your firewall? If you gave us your domain name we could test it for you. For a list of appropriate ports look here:

  • Upgraded to newest version of Firefox all the links were broken, it will not open in Safe Mode or anywhere else-before I uninstall it I'd like to access save my user names and and passwords from websites- can i access them without opening the browser

i can not launch browser toget version info or anything else, when it upgraded to newest version it stopped working-i've tried launching in Safe Mode and have tried all icons

You can save a copy of your passwords file, but I don't think you can open it without Firefox.
Your passwords file is in your profile folder. You might want to make a backup copy of the whole folder. Info on locating the folder: [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Profiles Profiles | How to | Firefox Help].
You may want to try reinstalling Firefox 3.6. You can download the installer from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all-older

  • I have a passcode restriction on my iPad but my child can still access games without the passcode. How can this be prevented?

Can anyone tell me how to configure the settings so that we have to log on with passcode before the kid can play games?

There are 2 different passcodes which you can have on the iPad. There's the one that I mentioned above for restricting access to the iPad, and there is also one that can be used for 'restrictions' : Settings > General > Restrictions - that one allows you to restrict access to some apps (e.g. you can hide Safari, the iTunes store, the App Store via 'Installing Apps' set 'off') and to content by age (e.g. hide apps or films with a particular age rating) : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4213
Be aware that if the passcode to unlock the iPad is typed incorrectly too many times then the iPad may become disabled, and will need to be reset / restored by connecting to a computer's iTunes (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212)

  • Can't access MSN Outlook via Safari

Upgrade to Yosemite has worked fine except I normally access my hotmail account using Safari to UK MSN.Com which loads fine but when I click on the Outlook icon to access my hotmail account it just won't load?

    Hi John,
How about the Apple cookies in Safari> perferences>, Security>Show cookies the Apple ID one with your name, that one, but make sure to remember your member ID name it will off course remove it from the login window .
It is suppose to be deleted & I always find mine is when I quit Safari, but maybe for some glitch its not being deleted ?
Sometimes the site is just of line temporarily while they work it, the message will eventually come up if you wait long enough, it seems as if something is up with Safari, but its not.
Interesting enough I notice that I have Java disabled in Safari Pref>Security & it is working fine with out it, I did that that earlier for another site.
I delete the cookies & empty cache. I dump the history couple of times a day, if I browse heavily.
    good luck. Eme

  • Help! Can't access my own Wi-Fi network!

Now this is really odd! yesterday evening I was on my home network with my iPhone 3G, no problems. While I was out, I tried an app (X-Plane), which crashed twice in close succession. When I tried to join my network this morning: no go! "Unable to join network xxxx."
I had no problems with my wireless network at work, but when I got home, I still couldn't connect. I tried 'forgetting' and re-registering it (login worked, but no connection).
Help! Is a restore necessary or are there other options?
    Thanks!
    Roger

I love it when I answer my own questions...
Indeed, a restart of the TimeMachine did the trick! WiFi reception has been restored to my iPhone (could have spared myself the restore :-().
