Can I access multiple USB printers through Time Capsule?

I just bought a Time Capsule, and I'm loving having my USB laser printer available on my Airport Network. In fact, I'm loving it so much that I'd like to have my USB photo printer available as well.
Is it possible to have multiple printers available through the Time Capsule connected to a USB hub?

Bingo! It worked, many thanks!
I wish I could remember which associate at my Apple Store said it wasn't possible; that he'd tried every way he could think of short of hacking the Time Capsule.
You've really helped increase the utility of my network, and I appreciate it.
Happy Holidays!

Can I access the data on the time capsule from the Internet?

You need to follow the BTMM via icloud instructions.
    http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/back-to-my-mac/
There are plenty of other ways to do it.. but issues to do with Apple not using a dynamic DNS client so if your ISP does not allocate you a static public IP there is no way to find it, if the public ip rotates as they are designed to do hourly or daily.
Do a google search, remote access time capsule..
Or use the more like this on the right hand side... there are plenty of posts and even youtube video which go right through it.
BTW your school system may simply block the port.. if I was a school IT admin.. I would. You are dragging files across to the internal school network bypassing the firewall.. that is unacceptable risk to the whole school system.

  • I recently changed my internet provider and now I can't access any files on my time capsule.

I recently changed my internet provider from Bell to Rogers and now I can't access my files on my Time Capsule.
When I click on Finder, it shows up as a Shared Drive.  Unfortunately, when I select it, the folder shows up blank.  I know the "Data" folder I'd created is there since Time Capsule is able to backup to it and iTunes is still downloading my music to that folder.  How do I fix this?
The wireless network works too since all my devices are able to connect to it.
    Help, please!

NVM: Found out all I had to do was reboot my Macbook Pro.

  • Can i access my photos saved on time capsule using my pad via my home wifi?

Can i access my photos saved on time capsule using my pad via my home wifi?   I would like to edit my pictures on my ipad instead of my mac mini and have them stored on my time capsule.

Sad that people steal stuff.. and..
Sorry but there is no way windows can recover a TM backup. You have to use another Mac.
    TM is uniquely Mac.

  • Can i access hard drive wirelessly via time capsule?

I have a macbook pro with a full hard drive, a time capsule and an external hard drive.
I want to be able to access my files wirelessly and backup regularly.
Is the best option to use my external hard drive as my new hard drive, with automatic backup to the time capsule?
If I leave the external hard drive connected by usb to the time capsule will this mean I can wirelessly access them?
And finally what is the best way to move my files from my macbook pro to the external hard drive?

As I understand it.. and one of the other eggs spurts here may correct me. There are issues doing this.
An external drive plugged into TC can be used to store your files, but will not be backed up. (Not by Time Machine at least) And extremely inefficiently if you create a directory on the TC drive because it will be copied back to the computer and then onto the TC again. The external drive would have to be plugged directly into the computer for it to include the files in the backup.
So you have some choices. Each with a caveat.
    1. Create a directory on the TC and store your files there. That is the best way for speed. Although a USB drive access is probably no worse by wireless. It will not get backed up though. At least not via TM, you can manually do the backup. And should do so if the TC becomes the only place the files are stored.
    2. Plug the external hdd into the computer directly.. that is messy and obviously not what you want but the files are then included in the backup. It is considerably faster though.
    3. Buy a larger hdd for the MBP.

  • USB printing through Time Capsule from Ipad or iphone

I connected my printer thru the USB of my Time Capsule, and I can print wirelessly from my iMac, but my iPhone and my iPad do not see the printer. It has to be air printing enable or is there other way to do it?
    Thanks!!

The bottom line here is the mobile devices use a different operating system than a Mac computer.

  • Can i parental control all computers through time capsule

can i set parental control on time capsule to filter all the internet in my house?

First, you need to define how you want to restrict this boarder's access.
Do you want to enter a list of websites to prevent him from reaching?
Do you want to stop internet access at certain times of day?
Do you want to limit the amount of data they use?
    Something else?
You might not need to buy anything more. How do you get your Internet? Is your cable or DSL modem also a router? Because if it is, you may be able to accomplish your restriction through your modem, instead of your Time Capsule.
My DSL router is very well equipped, so I use it for my router and I put my Time Capsule in bridge mode. When I look at the admininstrative page for my router, I see numerous options for access controls, many more than in Time Capsule. There are blocking lists based on MAC (Media Access Control) address, IP address, time of day, domain name, etc. And if you're lucky, your modem may allow you to apply specific restrictions to individual computers (by MAC or IP address).
So check your cable/DSL modem, study its configuration pages and its manual, to see if it is also a router with extensive blocking capabilities. Unfortunately, as a novice, you might not have a good handle on what to set, where, and how. That's why the first sentence of this post is important: First define exactly what type of restriction you have in mind, then see if you can locate an option in your wireless modem/router that will handle that for you. Then you might have to study the manual and do a little reading on the Web to understand how to do what you're trying to do. You can also ask on the forum for your cable/DSL modem, at dslreports.com.

  • How can I access the data on my time capsule remotely?

I see the drive under the shared tab in Finder, but I cannot open it.  I am at school and need to access documents that are stored on my time capsule at home.  When I set everything up, I enabled "sharing over WAN" and everything and set up the password access. The software is up to date. How can I get into my drive? I tried logging into icloud.com, but the only apps I see are the standard contacts, notes, etc. HELP!!!!!!!

  • Can't copy TM usb backup to Time Capsule - "wrong case sensitivity"

I tried Pondini's tip from here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1964018#18
"18. How can I copy my TM backups to a different location?"
"To copy LOCAL BACKUPS to be used on a NETWORK:
SNOW LEOPARD: First, configure Time Machine to back up to the network location, and start a backup. As soon as the sparse bundle is created, cancel the backup. Then, if possible, connect the new drive directly to your Mac. Use the Finder to mount the new sparse bundle, and delete the Backups.backupdb folder inside it. Then drag the Backups.backupdb folder from the old volume to the new sparse bundle."
My problem comes when I get to this point. I get an error message...
"the volume has the wrong case sensitivity for a backup".
..and it won't let me drag the Backups.backupdb folder.
The source is a Western Digital usb MyBook originally set up under Leopard but now being used under Snow Leopard. The target is a new Time Capsule.
Thanks for any help you can offer.

    Bob Mayo wrote:
Given this sudden issue, can the Time Machine backup on the MyBook drive be saved -- and is it still a reliable to use as the base for future backups on the Time Capsule?
I wouldn't waste any more time on it; I'd recommend putting it "on the shelf," in case you find you need something from it, and let Time Machine start fresh on the TC.
You can always access the old backups, via the +*Browse Other Time Machine Disks+* option, per #17 in the FAQ Tip.
By the way, I've been working on the copy procedure. Here's a draft of the new version of the part you'd use, if you decide to:
    |
    |
_*3. To copy LOCAL BACKUPS to be used on a NETWORK_*
*SNOW LEOPARD only; you cannot convert Local Backups to Network on Leopard.*
    |
If you're copying to a Time Capsule, configure your Time Capsule for your network. (See the documentation that came with your Time Capsule for information about setting it up on your network.)
If you're copying to a USB drive to be connected to a Time Capsule, Airport Extreme, or other Mac, connect it directly to your Mac and format it with either the GUID or APM *Partition Map Scheme,* and either +Mac OS Extended (Journaled)+ or +Mac OS Extended Case-sensitive, journaled)+ Format. See item #5 in the Frequently Asked Questions *User Tip* if you need detailed instructions.
    a. Configure Time Machine to back up to the network location, and start a backup.
    b. As soon as the +sparse bundle+ is created, cancel the backup (that may take a few moments).
    c. If possible, connect the new drive directly to your Mac (or a Time Capsule via Ethernet).
    d. Use the Finder to mount the new sparse bundle.
    e. Double-click it to mount the +Time Machine Backups+ partition inside it.
    f. Click the +Time Machine Backups+ partition to open it, and delete the Backups.backupdb folder inside it.
    g. If the old backups are case-ignorant (per the yellow box above), you must change the new sparse bundle to be case-ignorant, too:
    |
    1. Select the +Time Machine Backups+ partition in Disk Utility's sidebar and click Erase.
    2. Select the +Mac OS Extended (Journaled)+ Format, and click the Erase button. That may take a few moments (to unmount, erase, and mount the partition again).
    3. Via the Finder, do a +Get Info+ on the +Time Machine Backups+ partition.
    4. Click the padlock at the lower right and enter your Admin password at the prompt.
    5. Remove the check from the +Ignore ownership on this volume+ box and close the window.
    |
    h. Via the Finder, drag the Backups.backupdb folder from the old volume to the new +Time Machine Backups+ partition. Enter your Admin password when prompted. After a few moments, you may also get a prompt saying that you'll need to enter it again later: click Continue.

  • Accessing Lacie USB drive from Time Capsule

I have recently purchased a time capsule. I would like to transfer the contents of a LaCie 750G USB HD to the TC. I've plugged it into the USB connector of TC, and Disk Utility sees another HD (In Airport Utility, under 'Disks' it sees the USB drive as a Hitachi HDT721075SLA380). However, I cannot see this disk when accessing TC through Finder on my MacBook.
Is there an easy way to copy the contents of the LaCie to the TC?

    Couple of thoughts:
The Time Capsule's USB port would be a lot happier to see a drive format of Mac OS Extended (Journaled), although FAT 32 may work if you don't exceed a 4 GB file size.
Although the message says it will take 7 hours, did you actually make a copy to confirm this? If you did not, the only way to will know if it will really take that long is to make the copy. It could be much less.
If you don't already have any valuable data on the disk, I would suggest that you re-format it using MAC OS Extended (Journaled). Might also be a good idea to Verify Disk and Repair Permissions if indicated using Disk Utility.

  • Can I access my data on my Time Capsule with my iPad without my laptop

I Recently sold my Mac Book; had all my information backed up to my Time Capsule, can my data be accessed with my iPad or do I need a new laptop?

If it was backed up with Time Machine, you have to have Time Machine to restore it.
Only Mac has TM.. so you need a Mac of some sort to restore it.. you can restore it to a disk.. and then access that over the network from ipad.. but of course your itunes library etc is still completely blocked to you.

  • I can't access the disk on my time capsule

I have a mocbook pro and a 2tb time capsule that was bought abut a month and a half ago, it's fully updated and so is my macbook but I can't access the hard disk. Is there a way in which I can access it without having to completely like reformat it?

Not sure what you mean by access the hard disk.
Are you asking about Time Machine backups from your Mac to the Time Capsule?
If yes, click the Time Machine clock icon on the dock and wait a few minutes for the Time Machine "Star Wars" interface to fully load.
Use the scale at the right of the window to select the date of a recent backup that you want to see
Then, use the Finder like interface to navigate and find the file(s) that you want to see
Click Restore at the lower right if you want to Restore the file to the present, otherwise click Cancel to close Time Machine and return to the present time.
Is there a way in which I can access it without having to completely like reformat it?
Reformatting the Time Capsule will erase alll fo the data on the drive and wipe it clean.

  • Can no longer get to internet through Time Capsule

I recently had to give my iMac a static IP address, and no the wifi on my time capsule does not work.
The time capsule is and has been plugged into my LAN, my iMac plugs into the time capsule and can connect to the internet fine.
The time capsule has an IP address, has the correct DNS servers, router and domain.
from my iphone i can connect to the time capsules wifi, but cannot get out to the internet.

You have an iPhone question here, since you know that the Time Capsule is working correctly.  Try the iOS Troubleshooting Guide.

  • I Can't access the data on my Time Capsule

Everytime I try to access my data from my MacBook Pro running 10.8, my finder window closes.  I tried attaching my laptop using an ethernet cable and resetting the time capsule, but my problem persists.
    Any advice?

Did you copy the stuff across before you upgraded to ML?? Or did you do this from ML?
Did you do a full factory reset? That might help.. also do not use both wireless and wired connection at the same time.
There are some issues with ML recognising the TC .. but I refuse to upgrade.. to such a poor networking OS.
You might have to do some devious stuff to get at your files.. Like connect it to a Mac still running a decent networking OS.

  • Can't access multiple mail accounts through mail access through the web OK

Mail will not let me access more than one web mail account. The error message reads that the server will not accept my password. When I go to the web mail site, I have no problem with any of the accounts. I have checked and rechecked the mail preferences, checked with my IP service and reset all the passwords just to start from scratch. Same results. Mail will not accept the changes I have tried such as viewing the header. I have tried to delete the "to" column and add "from" but it will not accept the changes. The one account it recognizes does not function properly. It leaves mail on the server and I have checked any preferences for that also. Even when I have the "functioning" account highlighted, menu options such as "long header" are grayed out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

would that be the com.apple.mail.plist preference file located in the users folder then inside the library folder then the preference folder? I currently have no mail so i could do this. Thanks for any help
