Can I access my backup files using finder?

When I tried to open some files inside the time capsule appear this message:
The alias “Documents” can’t be opened because the original item can’t be found.
Someone know if its possible and how to open this file? I didnt lose any file, I just want to open using Time Capsule.
Thanks

Do you mean Time Machine.. ??
TIme machine backups have to be restored correctly.. you cannot open them.
Read the info in Pondini.. Q14-17.
http://pondini.org/TM/FAQ.html
If you want to directly open files from a TC then you need to copy them there from finder.. but you must be careful as the TC is a backup device and not a file store.

  • Can't access 'All My Files' in Finder

I'm not able to access 'All My Files' in Finder. The below screenshot error appears when selecting Go > All My Files.
On closer inspection, it appears the entire folder is empty, yet I can manually access files through Spotlight.
Any suggestions on what my cause this issue would be greatly appreciated.

It sounds like the "All My Files" Search Folder is damaged or missing.
Try going to Finder Preferences, Sidebar, and uncheck, then recheck All My Files.
Not sure that is going to work, but it would be the simplest solution.

  • Can't access old backup file on iCloud

When I bought my new iPhone (5s), I did a backup of my old one (iPhone 4). I did the restore and only some of my data came over, including only a fraction of my photos. Now, when I check my space on the cloud, the old iPhone backup is there and it is huge! How can I access this data and manage it? I only have an iPhone and iPad, no PC. The only option I can find through my phone or iPad is to keep or delete the whole mass, but it doesn't show me what's actually there.

You can see any of the content of the backup without restoring it to your device, and as you indicated, the only option in settings is to delete it.  It should contain your camera roll photos, which are included by default.  If they didn't restore, about all you can do is try restoring the backup again.

  • Can I access my backup files inside the airport using finder?

When I tried to open some files inside the airport extreme appear this message:
The alias “Documents” can’t be opened because the original item can’t be found.
Someone know how to open this file? I didnt lose any file, I just want to open using AirPort.
    Thanks

It's recommended NOT to use your AirPort Extreme for backups Mainly because the Time Machine software was not deigned to work with the AirPort Extreme and the Extreme wasn't designed to work with Time Machine. That's why Apple has the Time Capsule, for wireless backups.
Try connecting your hard drive directly to your computer.

  • I restored some files last night and now I can't access my backup and it's full.

Last night I was restoring some image files and everything appear to have gone as planned. The images were back and the time capsule continued to backup my system as before. I got up today and I keep getting a message that my backup is full and I also can't access my backup files. I'm not sure what went wrong. I am running snow leopard and have VMware to run win 7 as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Some questions:
    1) What was the volume (file size) of the restored image files?
    2) What specifically happens when you try to access your backup files?
    3) If you mount your Time Capsule's internal drive (presuming that's where Time Machine is writing its data), how much free space does it have?
By the way, as your problem seems to be specific to Time Machine and not to Time Capsule, I'd post future questions of this nature to the discussion section for your version of OS X.

  • Help ! - Can no longer copy backup files, nor access the drive vols via USB

Need help. I have a WD 320 gig drive with (3) Partitions:
    1. Mac OS File system
    2. Mac OS File system
    3. MS DOS file system
I am trying to migrate the files and dir's on this drive to another, but am unable to. History:
The drive was used as a USB/FW backup. Time machine can access and write to the Mac partitions. The drive has been backed up both via FW/USB and Airport disk. Drive is now filling up and I cannot access the backup files (dir's) to copy them: " Sorry, you do not have sufficient access priviledges..."
If I disconnect and try to migrate the files manually via FW or USB - I get a similar error. Windows is visible both online and off. What gives ? Is this a result of Airport disk ? Time Machine ? or both ?
I used to be able to migrate files on and off just fine. By only recourse will be to partition and erase it seems. Need any help ......thanks

Your Template code is incomplete / corrupted.
That's why you can't edit it.
Try opening your .dwt file in a plain text editor like NotePad.  Remove the editable regions from code.  Save.  Open in DW.
You will need to SaveAs Template (same name as the one used by your child pages).  Add editable regions to match the ones in your child pages.  Save.

  • My computer was formatted but I need to access my old content on my itunes backups. Is there any way I can acquire these iTunes backup files ever again?

My computer was formatted but I need to access my old content on my itunes backups. Is there any way I can acquire these iTunes backup files ever again?
I tried recovery software but had no luck!

You reformatted the drive in your computer. The backup files you want to access were overwritten when you re-formatted the drive. They are gone. There may be data recovery services that can get them back. Search google if you want. This has absolutely nothing to do with using an iPhone at this point. You deleted files on your computer...

  • Can I access time capsule file without using imac

can I access time capsule file without using imac

From a time machine backup? No. If you mean just a regular file stored on there? Not directly. There are a couple of apps out there where you can indirectly get to a file but it's a pain. If you have need of accessing a file both from the mac and the iPad then I suggest DropBox. You get 2GB free and it's a good way to share information between machines and devices.

    Hi Sharon2000,
I think you could try the Database.NewPassword Method (DAO) in the VBScript file, and you could get more information about it from the link below:

  • Can I copy a Backup file from one PC to another and use it?

IPhone got all screwed up with the update on my home PC and wont restore, my PC at work does it fine, but my backup file is on my home PC. Can I copy my Backup file from my home PC and put it on my work PC to restore my IPhone?

Before your restoring your iPhone with your PC at work, you can create a backup of your iPhone on the PC before restoring.
With your iPhone connected and available in the iTunes source list, control click on your iPhone and select Back Up.

  • Can't Access Recent Backups in Time Machine

I was in the middle of installing OSX 10.10.1 and the installation hung on "setting up your mac", so I did a restart with the intention of restoring my whole system from a recent backup. I restarted with the option key, selected restore from Time Machine backup, then selected the backup I wanted my system restored from (dated 17 November), and left it to restore overnight. In the morning I discovered it had actually restored from an old backup dated 17 February 2013! And all the backups from that date forward appeared as blank pages inside Time Machine. It actually restored that old backup, then made several backups of the system it just restored. So in time machine I have several accessible backups of the old system (backups made today). Inaccessible backups which appear as blank pages inside time machine from 17 November all the way back to 17 February 2013. All backups prior to this date are accessible in Time Machine.
I have tried updating the operating system, so I am now running a fully functioning version of OSX 10.10.1, but this did not enable me to acces the recent backups. When I actually browse the backup disc using Finder I can see the backup files I want to restore the system from all appear to be there. When I go back into Time Machine the dates of these backups all appear on the time line along the right hand side, but for some reason I just cannot access them.
Please help, I have no idea how to restore my system.
    MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2010)
2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3

While in Time Machine, press the key combination shift-command-C. The front window will show all mounted volumes. All snapshots should now be accessible. Select the one you want and navigate to the files you want to restore.

  • I have converted a pdf to word. How can I access the Word file from my online account?

I have converted a pdf to word. How can I access the Word file from my online account? When it says 'download the converted file' I choose a location on my PC and click, but nothing happens. It seems that it can only save the converted file to my online account. I went to my online account but I see no way to look for the file

    Hey Fabrizio,
You might need to sign up at "https://cloud.acrobat.com/exportpdf" using your Adobe ID credentials to convert your PDF file to Word.
Do you get the 'download' prompt?
Also, you can find the converted files by clicking at the 'Files' tab.
Please try the same using a different browser and check.
    Hope to hear from you.

  • Can't locate imported iPhoto files in Finder

I recently imported a series of pictures into iPhoto. However I can't locate these picture files on Finder..What happened was I had to fire up iPhoto app each time and right click to 'Show File'. It said the path was user/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Originals/2007/...
I want to locate these files on Finder, however, when I clicked on user directory user/Pictures/iPhoto Library I can't drill down further. It seems that 'Originals' folder is missing. When I show package contents though, this folder showed up. This is a frustrating experience for me because I can't upload the pictures to the web, or easily find them.
Does anyone has any idea if this is normal behavior or is there a way I can easily access the list of pictures I've imported without firing up the iPhoto? Appreciate any response. Thanks very much.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Does anyone has any idea if this is normal behavior or is there a way I can easily access the list of pictures I've imported without firing up the iPhoto
This is perfectly normal behaviour for v7 of iPhoto. The change was made to the format of the iPhoto library because many users were inadvertently corrupting their library by browsing through it with other software or making changes in it themselves. If you're willing to risk database corruption, you can restore the older functionality simply by right clicking on the iPhoto Library and choosing 'Show Package Contents'. Then simply make an alias to the folders you require and put that alias on the desktop or where ever you want it. Be aware though, that this is a hack and not supported by Apple.
However, better to use one of these:
10.5 users: If you use the extended Open or Attach dialogue (with Column View) you can scroll to the bottom of the Shortcuts and find the Media browser there. Select any pic you want from there.
Another way to access the files with iPhoto not running, is to create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use THIS
    Otherwise:
There are three ways (at least) to get files from the iPhoto Window.
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
To upload to MySpace or any site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use THIS
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
    Regards
    TD
