Can I access my Mail emails after re-installing Snow Leopard?

I need to reinstall S Leopard on my MacBook Pro. I have used TM to back up, and I want to know if, when I have re-installed S Leopard, I will be able to access all I my old emails in Mail. Currently I can do that just by having the Mail inbox window open when I Enter Time Machine. Also, what about iPhoto images, iTunes tracks?
Any advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your reply. Reinstalling because since installing SL I'm getting a lot of strange behaviour! Photoshop keeps crashing, also Mail, and Airport has become flakey too. Have installed an extra 2GB RAM to 4GB in case it was due to lack of memory, but no change ...
Have run DiskWarrior too - no major errors showing up, so figured re-install is the next step.

  • Can't print from Mail, TextEdit, or Preview in Snow Leopard

Installed Snow Leopard on a new Mac Mini with a newly formatted drive. Successfully set up network HP printers using IP Printing option. Able to print to these printer from all installed applications EXCEPT TextEdit, Preview, and Mail. Print dialog never displays at all after selecting "print" in Mail. Print dialog window does display for TexEdit and Preview but clicking "print" in the dialog window all the options blank out and can't cancel or close the print dialog window without quitting app.
However, when we take this same mini to a different physical location on a different network, printing works normally in all apps. We are guessing that Appletalk has something to do with this. The problem network uses a Cisco 3600 router. We disabled Appletalk in the configuration but that had no effect.

Nothing shows up in CUPS error log to trying to print from Mail. Pasted below is consistent message we get in Console when attempting to print from Mail.
Today, inexplicably, we can print from Preview and TextEdit.

My HP 2100TN worked with system 10.5 ... Now with 10.6 there is no way to add another printer
Also I have an HP Photosmart C6280 scanner / inkjet that only shows off line ... It prints directly with the USB connection but not through the wireless network.
Also I bought a Mac pro laptop for my son last year and never did get the Laserjet 2100TN to work ... now with updated syytem software neither of us can see the printer
Apple's support and instruction on this using Bonjour is very very poor

  • Why can't I erase my hard disk or install Snow Leopard?

I have a 2010 imac Intel Core i3 running OS X. The computer has been running really slow lately, presumably because the hard drive was nearly full. I backed up and deleted most of my data on an external hard drive.
I would like to reformat, but I haven't been able to. When I use disk utility, the option to erase the hard drive is not available (it is in grey). When I try to install Snow Leopard from the desktop using the DVD, it says "Cannot install Snow Leopard on this computer." When I boot from the Snow Leopard disk holding C upon startup, it gives me the same message.
This may not be related, but I lost the Install DVD that came with the computer. I downloaded an ISO for Snow Leopard and burned it on to a disk. There don't seem to be any problems with this disk, though.
I appreciate any help that anyone can offer.
    -Tom

I downloaded an ISO for Snow Leopard and burned it on to a disk.
I would not trust this disk to work, even if your Mac seems to be able to read it.  There has never been an official, downloadable version of Snow Leopard.  I suspect the ISO image  lacks something necessary to OS X, causing it to fail when you run it.  Someone other than Apple created that download and it's a pirated copy of OS X. (sorry to have to say that, but it is.)
My suggestion is to buy a legitimate copy of Snow Leopard on eBay or from Apple or an Apple reseller. Snow Leopard is still available from Apple ($19.99 USD).
The 2010 i3 iMacs came with 10.6.3 pre-installed.  Generally speaking you cannot install a version of OS X that is earlier than what was factory pre-installed on the Mac.  The OS X installer checks for this.  The version of Snow Leopard delivered on the retail packages varied over time as updates were released, but at this time a new Snow Leopard package is most likely to be 10.6.8.
One final thing you might try - install CarbonCopyCloner and clone your hard drive to an external hard drive.   Once the clone is complete, boot from the external hard drive.  If everything works fine from the external drive you can use it to erase/reformat the internal drive in the iMac and then reverse clone your system back from the external drive.  IMPORTANT NOTE:  As far as I know, using CCC to "self-clone" the drive you are booted from will work, but I have never done it this way myself.  I have always booted from an external drive that already had OS X installed on it so that the source drive I was cloning was NOT the same drive I was booted from at the time.  It may work or not, but there is no harm in trying.

  • Mail crashes after upgrading to Snow Leopard

Background and full disclosure, Macbook 2GB running Leopard, disk crashed.  Genius Bar suggested to copy what I could off of drive and replace it.  I loaded Snow Leopard on a new drive (installed in MacBook) and copied Mail folders and what Documents I could salvage over.  It took some chmod and chown within the Mail folder but I finally got things working (I thought).  Although I still had some anomalies with System Preferences so I reloaded Snow Leopard and let it update the system then did a Software Update to insure I had all apps in good state.  It seemed to be working.  I can view and reply to email and my iTunes and iPhoto libraries seem to be there.  My Address Book also seems to be ok as I can browse my contacts.
Now the issue.  I just learned that if I try and send a new message in Mail it crashes when looking up an address to auto-complete.  It seems that I can click New Message and then use the Address dialog fine, but if I type letters into the To or CC boxes and the program starts to look for matches it crashes and asks if I want to send a report to Apple.  I did a Repair Disk Permissions and same issue.  Any ideas?  I am waiting to upgrade to Lion until this is stable but maybe having Lion upgrade the apps will fix this problem?
    Thanks,
    -DR

Turns out the auto-complete database is a SQLite DB stored in this folder.  Probably the ownership and/or permissions are messed up on your system.  Mine (under Snow Leopard) show  ownership by me and rw privilege for all files in that directory, including MailRecents....

  • Images dont show up in mail.app after upgrade to Snow Leopard

So, this is kinda bizarre. None of my images in any emails show up in mail.app after i upgraded to Snow Leopard. This is despite that in mail.app preferences I have 'Display remote images in html email' selected. I've tried to unselect / select it, as well as trashing my com.apple.mail.plist and starting again to no avail.
Lastly, I have removed any and all bundles I had installed too. Any thoughts?

I have the same issue. Anyone know why?
    Help

  • After I installed Snow Leopard, the computer no longer recognizes my Olympus camera; I can't download my photos! Help!

My camera and Mac have always worked really well together, it was easy to download photos using both Photoshop and iPhoto. But I just upgraded to snow leopard and now the computer says it can't recognize the camera when I connect it to the computer to download photos. I updated the Olympus software, but it still isn't working. I take TONS of photos so this is a major problem. Woudl appreciate any help you can provide.

Does the camera mount on the desktop as a disc?
If so, double-click the icon and drag the pics to a folder on the Mac.
You should then be able to import them to iPhoto or whatever.
I don't have an Olympus, but all my Fuji and Pentax cameras have mounted perfectly well as a disc without using any software from either company.
Mind you, I don't use Image Capture, Photoshop or iPhoto to import anything directly; I want my pics in my filing system not someone else's idea of what it should be.

  • Can't long in to iWeb after clean install of Leopard and upgrade to Snow

I just recently did a clean install of Leopard and then upgraded to Snow Leopard. Everything is working ok except for iWeb. At first, I thought I had just forgotten my password but then I reset it. I logged on here with it and on iTunes. I can't edit my page at all. How do I get into iWeb now? The template I created through iWeb of course is not on my computer- it's just on my iWeb site. Can I call to get someone th help me or do I need to start all over. How do I do that because I have a subscription?
    Thanks

Daniel ~ Welcome to the discussions. If you didn't backup iWeb's key Domain file before the clean install, you'll probably need to start over. I say "probably" because even though you didn't deliberately back up the Domain file, perhaps you were running Time Machine — in which case, there's still hope:
Recovering items using Time Machine and Spotlight
Only iWeb's Domain file can be opened in iWeb. See this Apple doc on How to back up MobileMe data. It says:
Any websites you have published with iWeb should still be available within iWeb. iWeb stores everything in a Domain file, normally located in the ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder (although it can be moved). If you no longer have this file, you can view your currently published pages and manually recreate them within iWeb, but there is no way to import published pages back into iWeb.
You can manually back up the Domain file, or use Backup to back it up.

i have had repeated kernel panics. taken laptop to apple store twice in the past few weeks and they found nothing. suggested upgrading to snow leopard (i was on leopard) and the computer froze and flashed during the install and crashed. now it won't start in any mode. not safe mode, off the leopard install disk. i either get a flashing folder with a question mark or just a black screen. anything else i can try or has the system totally crashed. this is an 07 macbook pro.

  • After clean install snow leopard, cant install bundled application(ilife)?

Hi im new in the world of mac.
This is the first time i reinstalled(clean install) my snow leopard on my MBP. All went fine but then i inserted the disc for bundled application (which contains the ilife apps) but it keeps failing.
It says that "the installation failed. the installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. contact the software manufacturer for assistance".
I've also done my research on this matter. I've gone thru a few steps i tried as below without success:
    1)normal install - fail
    2)repair permission - fail
3)install in safe mode - fail
    4) install using another admin acc - fail
    5) made an image out of the disc and install - fail
    6) used a similar disc(my dad's since we have identical version) - fai
7)updated my system and install - fail
    8) reinstall the mac - fail
i cant think of any other solution as im a bit noob when it comes to mac. is there any other things i could try before taking it Apple?

    same "installation failed" message
i had to manually paste this address into safari search bar: "http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1512".  i found this link on MacRumors after a a search on google.  i could not find it on any search of apple site.  (searched for "AppleSoftwareInstallerUpdate.dmg" on apple site and could not find ANY results for it either)  i'm new at mac os, so the chaos of [apple support] vs [apple store] vs ["app store"] vs [itunes] download pathways all seem needlessly confusing.  using the link above - the download popped up, downloaded, had to restart my second hand 2010 mac mini that i was clean installing original discs - then i was finally able to install "applications install disc" (the 2nd original dvd that came with the mac maini).
was also very confounded that NOWHERE could i actually confirm exactly what applications are on this 2nd disc until i successfully installed it - at least iphoto + imovie + garage band all showed up on the dock.  not sure if anything else new is on there - i wasnt watching closely enough.  i guess this is "iLife '??".  it sure isn't labelled as such ANYWHERE, not on disc, not in manual supplied, not explained anywhere on apple site that i could find.  but at least  i'm learning to navigate around MacOS a little bit better
