Can i access my music without connecting to itunes, can i access my music without connecting to itunes

Basically my friend was on my iPod and the battery was low. So I turned off my iPod as my charger was at home. When I turned it back on however, my iPod would not turn on and was stuck on a screen showing a plug pointing up to a disc which read 'iTunes.' I know I have to plug in my iPod to itunes but my previous laptop broke and so I was wondering, if I plug my iPod into a new computer, will it delete all my songs? If so, how do I stop it? Can I get the songs back?

They will not be accessible and you'll need to restore your iPod, which will wipe all content and data from the device.  You can redownload almost all past iTunes purchases again at no cost.  See this article for more information.

  • Can i access music without internet connection?

Can I use my ipod touch to play music that is stored in the cloud when i am away from an internet connection? If not, can I keep copies on the device so they're available locally? Do I need to disable ICloud to do this? As it is now, even when I have internet connection, there is a delay between songs while they download. It would be much better if it were the old way and copies just stayed on the phone/ipod/ipad.

If I want my entire music library on my IOS device, or on my computer, then it sounds like I must either download or play all of my music at least once, after I turn on Match.  Is this correct?  I want to have access to all (or nealry all) of my music for long periods where I will be without internet access (e.g. long flights).
Can I do a MATCH, without deleting all the music on my IOS device?

I cannot synch movies to my iPad.  This has worked for me in the past.  I keep getting an error message that I am not connected to the internet.  Yet, I certainly am.  How else could I post this message.  I can listen to music clips from the iTunes store, fetch my email, and read current newspapers on the internet.  I restarted both my iMac and my Ipad and that didnot help.

I completely understand what is happening. I know that you are connected to the Internet. I made the suggestion because I have seen it work in similar circumstances. The Apple iTunes servers can be a bit fussy about things and sometimes rebooting the router clears up this miscommunication between iTunes and your network.
Have you tried signing into your account and then try to sync again. Go to Store>View Account. You will have to enter your password. Then try to sync again. Or try signing out completely in Store>Sign out. Quit iTunes, sign in again and then try to sync again.
Sometimes refreshing settings will help clear up weird problems.

  • My PC was stolen. How can I connect my Iphone on a new PC without loosing everything (music, contacts, pictures, appli ....)?

    Hello everybody,
Unfortunitely, my pc was stolen. Now I want to connect my Iphone on the new one but I don't know how to do it without loosing all I have inside (music, contacts, sms, mms, pictures, aplli ...).
I have done a backup from my Iphone... and a backup of my PC HD just one day before so I hope you will have a solution for me !!
An other thing... I don't know very well Itunes ... I can say that I am a beginner !!
Thanks a lot for your help !!

There is no way to get pictures off the phone or to move them from folders to the camera roll. The format on the phone is proprietary, so even if you could get them off you couldn't use them. Having said that, search the Internet; there are some apps that can access some files on the iPhone without hacking it. There may be one that can get the photos off. The only other option is to email them to yourself. This will reduce the resolution, however.
I'm afraid you have pointed out the importance of frequent computer backups.

  • I can't access my playlist without being connected to my external hard drive

I can't access my playlist without being hooked up to the external hard drive. With the external hard drive connected I can sync it on my iPhone and iPad but won't do it for the computer

If you mean photo albums that were synced from your computer then no, then can only be deleted by re-connecting to your computer's iTunes, de-selecting them on the Photos tab and re-syncing.
If you mean music albums then yes, you can press and hold an album on the album selection screen in the Music app, and after a second or two you should get an 'x' on it - tap that and it should be deleted.

    1) The best way to relocate the iTunes library folder is to move the entire iTunes folder with all subfolders to the new path, then press and hold down shift as start iTunes and keep holding until prompted to choose a library, then browse to the relocated folder and open the file iTunes Library.itl inside it.
If you've done something different then provide some more details about what is where and I should be able to help.
    2) Purchases on the device should automatically transfer to a Purchased on <DeviceName> playlist, but it my depend a bit on whether automatic iCloud downloads are enabled. If there is a cloudy link then the transfer might not happen. You can use File > Devices > Transfer Purchases. In iTunes you should also check out iTunes Store > Quick Links > Purchased > Music > Not on this computer.
    3) Backup the device, then immediately restore it. In some cases you need to add a restore as new device into that equation. Obbviously not to be attempted until you're sure all your media is in your library. See Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device should it be needed.
    4) I believe there is complimentary 1 incident 90-day support with hardware purchases, but no free software support for iTunes itself. AppleCare gets you a different level of support.

  • HT4913 If the music library on my iPhone will be deleted when I enable iTunes Match, does that mean that I will not be able to access that music library when I temporarily turn off iTunes Match on the iPhone, e.g., when on the subway & can't connect to Ma

I have subscribed to iTunes Match and have employed it to listen to music on my Macbook Air and iMac.  On these devices it seems to operate by streaming music to the device rather than deleting the device's current iTunes library and downloading songs as they are played from iTunes Match. Not so on the iPhone as far as I can tell. Consequently, to date I have not activated iTunes Match on my iPhone 4S.  I presently have 40-50GB's of music on my iPhone, sync'd from my iTunes music library on my Macbook Air.  I am concerned that if I enable iTunes Match on my iPhone I will lose the music library already on my iPhone, as Apple seems to be representing that once iTunes Match is enabled on the iPhone the current music library, carefully compiled, will be gone from the iPhone forever (unless I later re-sync it from the iTunes library on my laptop), that it will be deleted.  Although this would free up a lot of space on my iPhone, I bought the 64GB phone just so that I could keep a lot of music on it and accessible at all times.  I am concerned that in certain instances, say if I am in the subway and want to listen to music on my iPhone but  don't have internet access below ground, that I won't have much music to listen to, only those songs previously played and thus downloaded onto the phone from iMatch, presenting me witrh a rather limited choice of music to play instead of the 40-50GB's I now have to choose from. Apple seems to have presented me with the choice of the lesser of 2 evils: i) enable iTunes Match and lose the music library already on the iPhone in exchange for access to iTunes Match and a greater number of songs than I can fit onto the phone (my library exceeds the phone's capacity) when a Cloud connection is available or ii) don't enable iTunes match and limit myself to only those songs, a considerable portion of my library to be sure but not all of it, that I can fit in the phone's storage space, i.e., the 40-50 GB's I have on there now.  If I choose the latter course, each time I purchase an album I'll have to delete another album to make room for it on the phone.  Apple thus offers me a sort of Hobson's choice, bad all the way around.  Do I have this right? The Apple techs I've spoken to don't seem to have a handle on the "deletion" aspect of enabling iTunes Match on the iPhone.   Right now, I'm too scared of "losing" my iPhone music library to enable iTunes Match on the iPhone. [Possible work-around, albeit a pain in the ***: I suppose that I can enable iTunes Match on the iPhone and spend the next couple of weeks 24/7 downloading songs from my iTunes Match library back onto the phone to replace at least some of those deleted when Match was enabled, thereby rebuilding a proxy library on the phone itself to play when I'm stuck in a tunnel between Brooklyn and Manhattan while maintaining access to thee larger iTunes Match library, more music than my phone will hold, once we come back into the light and my Cloud connection is restored.] Comments, suggestions will be appreciated. Thank you.

  • How can I connect my ipod to a new computer without deleting all my music

I just got a brand new laptop and when I connected my ipod and iphone 4 it prompts to syns a delete everything.  How can I avoid that.  I tried using the manual setting, but once I press apply it asks again to sync and delete all my music. Is there any other way to accomplish this?

That's exactly the way it is designed to work.
When you attempt to sync your iDevice with a new computer/library, iTunes will wipe the contents of the device and replace it with the contents from the library on the new computer.
To avoid losing content, first copy or move the media from your old computer to your new computer.  Once this is done, the iDevice can be synced without worrying about iTunes removing the content as it can be synced back.

  • How can I get my old iTunes music onto my new computer without access to my old computer? I left my previous job and forgot to transfer my music. I bought iTunes match and it shows my old Mac as a device, but I cannot get the music off it.

How can I get my old iTunes music onto my new computer without access to my old computer? I left my previous job and forgot to transfer my music. I bought iTunes match and it shows my old Mac as a device, but I cannot access any of the old music. All I can find are what was on my iPhone, but that's not what I want. I need all my old music from my old Mac, which has been wiped clean by IT at my old job. BUT, I did have iCloud at that time and I thought all my music would be accessible through it. I don't understand the Cloud! And I'm thinking spending $24.99 on iTunes Match was a waste of money because I still can't access my old music.

When you are done with this issue, consider the computer back at the office may still
have access to your iTunes account, and it should be de-auhorized. You can do that
remotely, but be sure you carefully do not mess up your other computer iTunes libraries.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Can I sync my old iPod Classic to a new iTunes account (to which I don't have access) without losing my music?wj

I have an old iPod that I haven't used in years with thousands of songs from ripped C.Ds I don't own anymore. I was wondering if there was a way I could sync up my old iPod to a new account without losing my old music so I could put new songs on.
    Any help would be appreciated.

If you are using the same account again, disable autosync in iTunes, set up your account, set up at least one contact and event on your Mac, to be able to merge data during the first sync.
Connect your device, right click on it in the device list and choose "backup". This will back up your device without syncing. Transfer your purchases the same way, to copy all bought media and apps to your new library.
The first sync will erase your device, but you can use the manual created backup to restore your settings and data again.

  • I downloaded latest version of iTunes for PC on my XP.  Works fine.  Connected my iPhone 5. I can see it.  Cannot transfer any of my music to iPhone.  I pull song to the right of screen, phone access pops open, plus sign on song title, drop it in, nothing

    1) Downloaded latest iTunes version onto PC
    2) connected iPhone 5 to PC
    3) Transferred songs from my files to iPhone - everything worked ok.
    4) downloaded app from Mac appstore - iConverter - to convert ringtones for use on iPhone
    5) converted ringtones as instructed and got them over to iPhone to use - in process, had to SYNC tones and therefore, lost all the music files I had on iPhone.
    6) went back to iTunes to copy over music files again and nothing would transfer.  The iPhone listing on the right would pull out when I'd drag the music file over.  A + sign would show on the song title and I would drop it in.  I check my iPhone music and nothing is there.
    7) also, a couple of songs somehow transferred in on their own and I can't delete them from the iPhone.
    8) if I try to SYNC my music to the phone, it will erase the ringtones.

I updated my daughter iPod touch.   Now the music states that it is on iCloud and can be accessed using WiFi or cellular.   I need to move the music back on the iPod so that she can listen to it without WiFi.   I tried to Restore backup but still does not work.   I tried to sync, still does not work.

Is the music in your iTunes library?
    Why can't you sync?
You said "Now the music states that it is on iCloud and can be accessed using WiFi or cellular."
    where does it state that?
