Can I access time capsule files hd with Windows XP or 7?

I bought the Time Capsue 3TB to make back up for  assist to videos in another  computers with operational system Windows, but with you not to have access the archives of the HD of the Capsule Team, what I can make to be able to assist the videos??
Thanks.

Ok, you need to ensure the TC is using SMB (windows share) names..
All names in the TC are short, no spaces pure alphanumeric.
Set the windows workgroup in file sharing page.
Set the guest account to on, read and write.
On the computer, load bonjour for windows.
The full airport utility is useful.
Open the TC in windows explorer..
\\TCname or \\TCIPaddress
If this fails.. ping the TC by name and IP address. If this fails change the windows security level and firewall to off.. make sure win7 or vista is set to home, not work or public.
If the TC does not respond to pings it will not be able to accessed.

can I access time capsule file without using imac

From a time machine backup? No. If you mean just a regular file stored on there? Not directly. There are a couple of apps out there where you can indirectly get to a file but it's a pain. If you have need of accessing a file both from the mac and the iPad then I suggest DropBox. You get 2GB free and it's a good way to share information between machines and devices.

  • Can't access Time Capsule files

    Here is the situation:
I've owned a TC for about a year now with no previous problems. Now I can't access the files even though the internet is still working fine and TC reports no problems. Until today, the TC icon would show up on my desk top and would link right to the files. Now, no icon, but when I go to finder the access icon is there. When I click on it, it asks me to verify my password to connect to the server, then goes to the next screen where it asks me to select the volumes to mount. There is only 1 choice here; however, if I choose it the computer freezes up on me with the spinning rainbow and the only way to stop is a hard shut down. When I first set up the TC, I don't remember having to go through this step, but now I don't seem to have any other options. I tried using Airport Utility to have the TC to restore to factory settings to no avail. Also, tried unplugging everything for a while a starting that way, but that didn't work either.
Any Help would be greatly appreciated!

    More Info:
After trying multiple things, I have more info to solve the problem. 2 other computers (one is another iBook and the other is a PC) in the house, access the hard drive as advertised with no problems. The only thing that has changed on my computer recently is the replacement of a 1G iPhone with an iPhone 3Gs. This phone did some weird things when syncing, specifically with our photo programs. It locked up Nikon transfer and iPhoto was working strangely. I felt the best way to alleviate those 2 problems was to shut down my computer, and restart. This is when I encountered the problem with accessing the TC. Things are also a little bit more complicated because I use the TC as the storage medium for both iTunes Library and iPhoto Library, both of which I can't access given the current problem.

  • Can I use Time Capsule shared drive with Windows 7?

I have a MacBook Pro and want to buy/set up Time Capsule and use it as a shared hard drive in my small home office. We have PC's as well with Win7.  WIll this work?

First find the spec for your AEBS. TC is Gigabit ethernet ie 10/100/1000. The older AEBS were Fast ethernet ie 10/100.
What would I do? TC set as base and create its own wireless network.. Main computer and cable modem attach to it. AEBS set up as bridge and create its own wireless network.
With this set up you can configure TC as N only at 5 GHZ if you have Extreme capable wireless Macs. The AEBS set N+(B/G) 2.4 GHZ for older G capable Macs. If you ever purchase Apple TV it can connect to the TC for speed of upload files to itself. The older Macs can still connect to AEBS and be used a Apple TV to stream.

  • Access Time Capsule over internet with Windows??

Is this possible? I have a MobileMe account, and if required a dynamic dns hostname.
My Time Capsule is behind a router. What firewall settings do I need to allow?
    Thanks

I'd suggest going over to http://www.dyndns.org and pick up a dynamic DNS. that will allow you to access your Timecapsule even if your ip address changes.
typically Windows wont work with afp:// addresses (which is appleshare) Windows natively uses SMB:// (samba/windows filesharing) you should be able to set up the smb sharing using timecapsule.
Looking at the time capsule setup, it looks like smb:// is automatically supported so you should type
    smb://TCexternal_IPaddress
    instead of afp://

  • After upgrading to Lion I can't access time capsule pre lion.

Last week I backedup to time capsule via cable.
    I then upgraded to Lion.
After upgrading I backedup to TC again.
Now my MBP 17  can't access time capsule pre lion. So I can't see any of my last 2 years of Snow Leopard data.

yikes, I had to move all my years of iPhoto folders/pix from very old iMac to a new HP laptop with PC Vista Home Premium....now finally ready and hoping to do years worth of photo albums! so I go in to these files and of course they don't open...because they're on pc.
    - I am techno ignorant on all this, what can I do? Is there any way I can open these on PC or do I need to go back and reinstall on a very very very old AND slow slow slow mac? these photos were created in 199, 200, 2001 up through 2007 so through many versions of iPhoto and Mac OS. I am hoping I can retrieve them - and very worried I cannot! Would love advice and help.
    - and on a separate note, any good, inexpensive iPhoto and iTunew wizard/tech support professionals out there in the Menlo Park, CA area?

  • Can you access time capsule from a mac over the internet

Can you access time capsule from a mac over the internet?

Yes. See this thread about how to access the disk attached to a Time Capsule.  Access to the Time Capsule itself can be done similarly.

  • Can time capsule be used with windows programs

can time capsule be used with windows as a wi fi router? or dose the disk that came with the time capsule work with windows program?

The wifi router side will work fine.
The disk that came with the TC should have windows version of airport utility but you can download it.. that is important if you want to setup the TC or use the shared disk.

  • How to use Time Capsule via INTERNET WITH WINDOWS 7 SMB Cloud

how to use Time Capsule via INTERNET WITH WINDOWS 7 SMB Cloud

Get a vpn router.. I have no idea where you are in the world but you can find reasonable stuff for not too much money or even a general router that takes third party firmware like dd-wrt can run openvpn.
Set up the vpn router in place of the TC, as the main router in the network. Simply bridge the TC and place it behind the router. It will be accessible as part of the network via the vpn.
This is the only safe way to do it via windows.

If you google around I have seen posts about how to access TC by port forwarding SMB on the TC.. using a different port.. To me this is going to slow down the hackers by a day or two.. then they will discover the open port and access your network.. not just the TC.. they now have SMB access to everything. Don't do it. There is very little security on SMB.

  • How to access Time Capsule hard drive with out internet connection?

Basically I live in a four bedroom house. One of my roomates moved out who had the internet in there name. Now i dont have an internet access but I have the Time Capsule with a 2 TB hard drive that stores my whole itunes library. I have enough space on my Macbook Air to store my whole library. I'd like to move my whole iTunes library back to my computer and wipe the Time Capsule Clean.

If the Time Capsule is providing a wireless network signal, an Internet connection does not need to exist to move files from the Mac to the Time Capsule, or vice versa.
Log onto the Time Capsule wireless network
    Open Macintosh HD
Look for the Time Capsule icon under the SHARED heading on the left side of the window
Click on the Time Capsule icon and a folder named Data (unless you have renamed it) will appear to the right
Double click Data to mount the drive on the Mac's desktop
Open the drive on the desktop and you can drag/drop files over to the destination that you choose on the Mac.
Once the file transfer is complete, double check to make sure that the files are back on your Mac and everything is working properly. Then, you can erase the Time Capsule hard drive.

  • MacBook Air 11" can't access Time Capsule Disk

    Hi:
I have two Minis, a MPB 13" and a MBA 11" connected to my Time Capsule. My MBP and the two Minis can access the Time Capsule disk with no problem. It's a different story for the MBA.
From the MBA, I can see my Time Capsule in Finder (Bonjour) and I can click on it, however the disk never appears. Clicking "connect as" doesn't do anything either. From Finder if I go "connect to server" and I type the IP address of my Time Capsule it connects without problems, but it won't connect with its name.
I am able to connect the disk on my other Macs from the MBA via Bonjour, just not the Time Capsule. As mentionned earlier, the Time Capsule disk is available from my other Macs and even from Windows.
I rebooted a few times and confirmed that the username/password are properly saved in the keychain of my MBA.
Any idea how to fix this?
    Thanks!

Are your other Macs connected via Wifi or ethernet? It sounds like some sort of network configuration issue. If they are connected via Wifi then I'd make sure the MBA has the same settings for it's network. Alternately I'd get rid of the keychain entry on the MBA and re-enter it to make sure it's correct. As a last resort I'd restart the Time Capsule and see if it makes a difference. I'm connecting a MBA to a Time Capsule so it should work.

  • I can't access time capsule HD after start to use osx mavericks!

    hello,
I used to keep some files on my time capsule HD, as an external HD, since osx leopard. But now i'm using osx MAVERICKS I still use time machine back ups in my time capsule, but now I can't access my other files on time capsule HD.
    Please Help me!

Try manually mounting the TC.. Mavericks has this thing where it hates TC.
In Finder.. Go, Connect to server.
Type in the TC network name or IP.
    AFP://TCNetworkName or IP
You need to understand network name is different to if you used illegal characters or spaces when you named the TC.
    So
    Raphael's Apple Time Capsule becomes
    Raphaels-Apple-Time-Capsule
Once you have the correct name the OS will ask for the password. by default it is public.. type in YOUR password.. or public and save it to your keychain.
The hard disk should then mount.
I strongly recommend using fully legal names for TC and wireless..
    Short,, 2-20 characters
    No spaces.
    Pure alphanumeric.

  • Access Time Capsule via WAN on Windows

    Hello
Please can someone tell me if they have been able to access a time capsule remotely from a windows box? I have afp working on Mac, but need a similar solution for windows?
    Thanks
    Mike

Connect an Ethernet cable from one of the three LAN <--> ports on the Time Capsule to your Mac. Turn off the WIFi on the Mac and you are all set.
Whether or not the Ethernet connection will result in significantly faster performance when you enter Time Machine is open to question, since a lot of data must be loaded when you start up Time Machine to look at backups. In most cases though, a wired connection will load things faster than wireless.
Please let us know on your results.

  • Can I share the files on the time capsule for all of the macs on my network and can I access time capsule from my laptop while out of town?

I have a iMac desktop and a macbook pro.  If I purchase a time capsule, can I use it as the central location for my files for both computers?  Can I access the files on the time capsule from my macbook pro when I am out of town?

Yes, with some provisos.. it is designed as primarily a backup location for Time Machine.
Look at Pondini who has a great deal of info in his KB of all things Time Machine .. as well as Time Capsule.
    Q3 here. http://pondini.org/TM/Time_Capsule.html
Remote access is via BTMM and iCloud.. just look it up.
But the TC must be the main router in the network for it to work.
