Can I activate a 5S on a network that only "allows" up to an iPhone 5?
Hello, I am looking to start service with FreedomPop using a phone. They currently only sell the iPhone 5, but say the 4 and 4s are okay to bring to the network. They even told me the 5S and 5C were not allowed due to some software concern...
Can someone please let me know how they would be able to differentiate between phones they don't have on their person? If I were to tell them I have an iPhone 5 then give them the MEID/IMEI for a 5S, would they be able to tell? They use Sprint's networks and don't use a SIM card that I am aware of (which is the only significant difference I see between the 5 and 5s/5c - switch from micro to nano SIM). The 5s/5c is a much more capable device and compatible with Sprint's networks, so where does the issue come from, if there truly is one? Thank you ahead of time for your help.
All iPhones, with the exception of the iPhone 4 CDMA, use and require a SIM card.
They will be able to tell the model of phone when it connects to their network. If they say the 5S is not supported, it's not supported.
Only FreedomPop can ellaborate on why the device(s) are not compatible with their network.

I have an airport extreme and express, if I use the extreme as a base station connected to my old router can I use the express to extend the signal while also creating a new network that only I can use? Essentially having two wifi connection off the same network? If so how do I set this up?
Extending using a wireless connection always results in a performance compromise.
If the Express is going to extend using a wireless connection, then the Express will need to be located about half way between the AirPort Extreme and the general area where you need more wireless coverage. The more that you have line-of-sight between the Extreme and Express, the better the network will operate.
Remember......the Express can only "extend" the quality and signal speed that it receives, so it needs to be located where it can get a very good signal from the Extreme. Although Apple cleverly uses the term "extend", a more accurate term for the Express would be "repeater".
If the Express will extend by connecting to the Extreme using a permanent, wired Ethernet cable connection......highly recommended for best performance.....then the Express can be located exactly where you need more wireless coverage. There is no signal loss at all through the Ethernet cable, so the Express gets a full speed signal no matter where it might be located.

I don't think there's a way to share a calendar over a local network, but if you have your own non-.Mac webspace on the Internet, you can publish an iCal calendar to it rather than .Mac. To do this, open iCal and select Publish from the Calendar menu. In the dialog box that pops up, change the Publish On drop-down menu to "a private server" and put in whatever your password is to access the server.

After I connect my iPhone (3GS 5.0.1) to any Ad-hoc wireless Network then walk away out of the reach of my wifi network, my iPhone can't find any wifi Network afterwards, only by turning off the iPhone completely and turning on again.
switching off wifi and on again or going into airplane mode did't help!
This problem happens only with ad-hoc wifi networks not with normal ones.

Sorry, but the 169.x.x.x IP address is internally generated by the iPod (and iPhone) and indicates that a network has been detected but no IP address has been issued. Your friends iPhone was not connected to your ad hoc network either - it connected to the internet through the 3G network.
You should read through the Vista help screens on ad hoc networking for some insight how this works. You should be able to get some ideas there.
In the mean time, $40 or less will buy you a very capable wireless router with four Ethernet ports and will simplify your network tremendously. Having used Windows ICS for a long time, the addition of a router and a real network simplified things so much. -
why can't i pick up any wifi networks? wifi capabilities still work on iphones, even without a SIM card-yes or no?
No one here can know why for certain, and yes.
If no change after resetting network settings on your iPhone and after restoring your iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from the backup, the iPhone has a hardware problem with the wireless card or something else. -
How can I use my Ipad in a hotel that only has ethernet connections? The Apple store clerk told me that travel express won't work in my hotel unless I also have a computer.
The issue with the Airport Express (or any of the Apple routers) is that you need the Airport Utility to configure it. Airport Utility works on OSX and Windows, but not on the iPad (or iPhone or iPod Touch.) It will work, if you can preconfigure the Airport correctly ahead of time, but you'd be stuck if you did need to reconfigure while at the hotel.
You can use most any other router that is configured with a web page, which means you have a chance of configuring with Safari on the iPad. If you want something somewhat portable, I use a "travel router" made by D-Link. The current model is the DAP-1350. Other companies make similar travel routers, but I have no experience with the others. -
I can't put numbers on the decimals. It only allow ,00 as decimals. If i put 33.00 it's ok but if i put 33.44 when i press enter changes to 3344 as an entire number, i've try everything and i can't find the solution. This should be a basic thing. How frustrating !!

It appears you have the cell formatted to Currency, with the default two decimal places.
What I don't understand, though is how Numbers arrived at a result of fifty five thousand five hundred fifty five on your entering the exact keystrokes in Yvan's post:
an equals sign, followed by five ones, followed by a forward slash, followed by a 2.

Could you do the following:
Open a NEW Numbers document using the Blank template.
Drag the Row and Column control (bottom right corner) to reduce the table to two columns and three rows.
Enter the words "My table" in cell A1.
Click on cell B2 to select it, then enter the formula
=11111/5
Use only those eight keystrokes; do not include any commas, periods or other characters not shown.
Click on B2 again to select it.
Open the inspector and choose the Cell Format button.
Do not make any changes in the Inspector window.
Drag the Inspector window to the position shown in my screen shot.
Take a screen shot that includes the Formula bar, the Table (with cell B2 selected) and the Cell Format Inspector pane (the same screen area as in my screen shot above).

Place the mouse pointer at the top left corner of the area you want to include.
Press shift-command-4.
The mouse pointer will change to a plus sign on a circle.
Hold down the mouse button and drag to the bottom right corner of the area you wan to capture.
Release the mouse button.
The screen shot will be saved to your desktop with the name "Picture 1" (The number will be different if you have taken other screen shots).
POSTING
In the Compose frame, place the Insertion point at the location you want the picture to be inserted.
Click the camera icon above the compose frame to open the Insert Image dialogue.
Click Choose file to open the Choose dialogue.
If necessary, navigate to the Desktop and click on the 'by date column header to sort the files by date, most recent at the top.
Select the most recent picture file.
Click Choose.
Wait for the picture's file name to appear beside Choose file.
Click insert image.

Hi there I have an iPhone 4S on the 3 network that will allow me to tether my iPhone 4S to the ps3, my question is will I be able to access the playstation network on the playstation 3 to download games and content to my ps3 console
If you're getting normal network access through tethering, I'm not sure why this would not work.

Can I set up a wi-fi network using only my iPad?
My rural area is finally getting high-speed cable internet, which means I can ditch my 3G plan, get wi-fi, and turn into a movie-streaming couch potato. Besides my iPad, I have an ancient Compaq desktop which I would like to dispose of. However, I don't want to do this until I know I can proceed with the following: Can I set up a wi-fi network in my home with just my iPad? Or do I need to keep my PC to set up and maintain the wi-fi network? Or alternatively, can I use the PC to start the wi-fi network, then get rid of it? Or do I need it at all--is my [updated] iPad 2 all I need to set up the network (besides the obvious modem/router, etc?). Thank you very much.
You will need the cable internet service and a wireless router (usually provided by the cable company). Most routers are configured through a web page and I think you should be able to do that from your iPad in the event you ever need to change anything.

OfficeJet Pro 8600 wireless network wizard only allows 25 characters of 26 character WEP encryption

I am replacing wireless 8500 home network printer with a new 8600 wireless printer
When using the 8600 wireless setup wizard I cannot get any further than attempting to enter my Router's 26 character encryption code because it only allows 25 characters to be entered. I seem to recall having the same setup problem with the 8500 three years ago, but I do not recall what the solution was.HP Total Care reply was that new all-in-one printers now support 25 characters. Router tech support says the router's wireless security settings can be changed into a 10 digit key. For an out of warrantee router like mine I would have to access it by using its internet address and user password which is long forgotten and fails me from accessing. So, I am considering upgrading to a newer 5 Ghz router and will use a smaller WPA2 key.

Can I use Acrobat 11to download pdf that only allows me to read, enter data, and print?
I need to complete gov. forms available online as pdf. I can review, enter data and print, but I cannot save to my computer or anywhere else. I need to be able to save so I can return to the form and enter information as I access it. Can this be done if I purchase Acrobat 11 and, if so, can I get the Standard edition? I currently only have Reader.
Yes, if you upgrade to at least Acrobat Standard you will be able to save. Since you can't save with Reader (assuming 11), the forms are probably XFA forms (created with LiveCycle Designer), which must be Reader-enabled in order to be saved with Reader. Reader 11 can save non-enabled AcroForms (forms created with Acrobat), but not non-enabled XFA forms. If you have a Reader version prior to 11, try using Reader 11 to see if it will save.
If you can provide a link to one of the forms, I can tell you for sure what the minimum requirement for saving is. -
IOS devices can't connect automatically to known wifi network anymore (only manually)

Just changed my old wifi router belkin 54g with a new sitecom 300n X2 (with 802.11n); after the change all my iOS devices (iphone4, ipod touch and ipad2) are not able anymore to automatically connect to my wifi network.
The network is recognized and after inserting the password the devices connect perfectly to the network, but if I switch off the wifi interface and then i switch it on again the devices don't connect to the known network automatically, I have to tap on my network in the list to join it, even if password is not requested anymore (just once, when connecting for the first time). My Macbook and other Android devices are automatically connecting fine.
I tried to forget the network and reconnect to it, I did a reset of the network stack under Settings->General->Reset, I did a device reset but nothing worked.
I even tried to limit channel bandwidth of the router to 20 Mhz (suggestion found in a forum) but no success, and I also changed the wifi channel to avoid interference, but again no success.
Any help will be really appreciated.

TS4006 Can you activate location services on a device that has it turned off?
I can't locate my ipad using the "find my iphone" app because the "location services" is turned off on my device. Am I able to remotely turn on "location services" via the cloud or through the app itself?
Unfortunately you cannot enable it remotely. It has to be done on the device itself.

What is the problem?
The person probably purchased it as a hacked iPhone and had no idea this had been done to make the iPhone work in Latvia. Call AppleCare and give them the model and serial number and find out what cell carrier the iPhone is locked with. Then call that cell carrier and see if it is possible for the owner to get it officially unlocked (not probable if it is Lithuanian iPhone).
