Can I actually back up photos as files

Hello, Sorry if this is a dumb question. I haven't been on this site since iPhoto 06. I use Super Duper for back up. No problems there. But in iPhoto 06 I was able to back up my pics as individual files (jpegs) that when you double clicked on them they would open in Preview. When I double click on the backed up photos it just opens iPhoto. Is there a way to actually do that as if you were burning jpegs or tiffs to a disc?
I have another ext HD that I would like a folder with all the jpegs/tiffs on...not a link to iPhoto. maybe I am not seeing the obvious. Thanks in advance! Oh ya...I am running Tiger 10.4.11 on a G5 Dual

There is two ways you can backup just the original, full sized image files: 1 - export the files out of iPhoto using the File->Export->File Export menu option, select jpg as the format, maximum qulaity and file size and select the option to include the keywords and titles; 2 - open the iPhoto Library package like this and *COPY ONLY* the Originals folder to your backup destination.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

If your intent is to remove the songs from your computer's internal drive you don't want to manually move them because iTunes won't know where they are. The safe way to perform this move is to start iTunes, open iTunes Preferences, and select the advanced tab. Plug in the external drive if it isn't already.
Using the picture above as a guide, (1) click on the Change button and select your external hard drive. (I created a Music folder on my external drive because I keep more than just music on it). 2) Click to put checkmarks in the boxes marked (2) and (3) and then click on the Ok button. This sets the stage for copying the music to your external drive and will make sure all your new music is put there as well.
The last step is to select the File menu, choose Library, and then Consolidate Library. This actually moves the music. Depending on how large your music library is and the speed of your external drive this will take a few minutes to a few hours.

More than likely you can get the phone back by doing a reset. Hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. The phone will reboot.

Only if you made a backup of the old iPhone which includes the photos you had stored in Camera Roll (if the photo you want to restore is there) or if the photo was stored in Photo Stream. In both of the cases, you will be able to get back the photo, but note that Photo Stream deletes photos 30 days after adding them

"iPod Touch can not be backed up. The file needed can not be found" This is an error message I got when trying to restore my iPod Touch today after the volume bar disappeared!

1-Opened i Tunes & Connected iPod Touch
2- Unchecked "Open iTunes when connected"
3 - Synched iPod
4- Hit "Apply"
5- Checked "Open iTunes when connected"
6- Synched iPod
7 - Hit "Apply"
8- Ejected iPod and closed iTunes
9- Re-connected iPod Touch
10- iTunes opened automatically!

Use the Finder > New Folder and you can click on the name and change the type to date, then drag the more recent copy of iPhoto Library to that folder.
This way you can have more than one copy of the iPhoto Library on the external storage drive at the same time as they are in folders. This way you can create a archive of dated photo's.

You were already provided the answer. If you do not have a backup of the phone while the photos were on the phone, they are gone. When you restore your phone from an old backup, anything that has been saved to the phone since that backup is deleted. Sorry.

How can I get back the default system files icons to my fles?

After installing an application like FontExplorer, all my fonts got it's icon.
I went to a font, selected and did get info, I tried to delete the icon but could not.
I know the default icons for OTF fonts and an italic O, half green, half black.
How can I get those Icons back,
Or in general,
When files gets an application icons, how can I restore the default icons for files?

Icons in the Get Info pane can be changed back to the original icon by clicking on the icon once, to highlight it, and then pressing Control X (for cut).
But in your case the font icon is probably more due to the association with the application selected to open it with, ie FontExplorer. So with the Get Info pane open for a selected font type you need to change which application you use to open it with. For example, if you select one of the OTF fonts and do a Get Info, in the Open With pane it will show FontExplorer. Change this to Font Book and it should change its default icon.

So now it has put all her photos from her old phone onto her new iphone and deleted all the new ones. We cannot find her new photos. Please help and there was 100 new pics. It restored the backup that was made on your computer 6 months ago, which did not contain those photos. You're wasting your time trying to find them on the phone. They don't exist.
Hopefully, your friend syncs her phone to her own computer on a regular basis. She needs to plug her phone into her computer and restore it from her last backup. That will restore it to the state it was in when the backup was made.
She also needs to get in the habit of extracting the photos on a regular basis, like she would from any other digital camera.

Yes if you erase/wipe, re-partition the drive before you do a reinstall of OS X Lion all data on your drive will be removed and replaced with just the operatiing system and the standard programs that come with OS X, Mail, Contacts, Safari, iTunes and the like. The iLife Apps, "i" Photo, Movie and Garage Band will not. Those Apps need to be downloaded from the Mac App Store and installed.
All other programs you have bought and installed will need to be reinstalled from either the CD/DVD disc or from downloads from the internet website you bought them from.
Backing up all your music and photos depends on what programs you are using and whether you saved them outside the Apple Apps iPhoto and iTunes database structure.
