Can I add chapters in my movie

Is it possible to add chapters with the new iMovie?

Of course Chapter tracks are useful for more things than just iDVD. It makes no sense to remove that capability.
I have had some success using Subler, https://code.google.com/p/subler, to add Chapters to the exported movie from iMovie 10. Subler is free and quick, but certainly not as easy to use as the old Chapter markers in previous iMovie versions.
Subler needs a time to associate with each Chapter, and that can be difficult to extract form iMovie 10. The Wrapped Timeline doesn’t show times. In the default timeline, I cannot find a way to get the time associated with the playhead or the skimmer. So far, I get the time for the where I want a Chapter, by splitting the clip at that point; then the elapsed time in the movie shows in the upper edge of the timeline. I put a list of Chapter times in a Text Edit file to reference for when I open the movie in Subler. The Chapters created by Subler are recognized by iDVD.
I have considered buying mChapters ($4.99) from the App Store which looks like it might be easier to use than Subler, but I don't know if the Chapters it generates are compatable with iDVD and the like. It appears they should be compatible.
iMovie 10 is much faster importing and exporting so I suppose that makes up for the extra effort and time consumed in inserting Chapters.

  • Can I add more than one movie to the movie page

I'd like to put up a gallery of movies  but don't know how to do that.  How can I add more than one movie to the movie template page?
    Thanks,
    Gina

I use the YouTube widget. It has the advantage of not loading clips until one actually selects the clip. When I started I just dragged the quicktime files to the page...not a good idea as it forced a viewer to wait for all of them to load.

  • Can you add menus to home movies?

Hi, Just wondering if iMovie has any way of adding menus to the start of home movies. The sort of menu that you can select chapters from to jump to different sections of the movie.

iMovie HD (free version 6.0.4 available to iLife '08 owners from Apple) and GarageBand can chapter can chapter movies. (iTunes, iPod, iPhone, TV, QT Player, and Front Row can all use these chapters.) However, iMovie '08 itself cannot add chapters. If your clips don't need any editing, simply create/add them to a GarageBand iPod project, chapter them, and export them using the "Export Movie to Disk... > Full Quality" Share menu option. This work flow does not re-compress your video content, but merely places it, the audio, and the chapter text track in an MOV file container for use.

  • Can't add artwork to new movies

Until last weekend, I could add artwork and pictures to movie files I was importing to iTunes. Now I can't. I add the artwork in the usual way, and it immediately reverts to showing the thumbnail of the video, and when I check for artwork under 'Get File Info', there's none there.
Sometimes, this can be rectified by playing the movie in iTunes (or at least skipping to the last 10 seconds, then letting it play out), and sometimes not. I haven't changed the configuration of my computer in the last two weeks.
    I'm using a Macbook, OSX 10.5.8 and iTunes 9.1.1.
I can't be the only one having this problem.....

Some video file formats don't take embedded artwork, and iTunes won't attempt to update a file if it can't get write access to it. Read-only flags, security permissions or even Explorer trying to create a preview image might prevent access.
The artwork cache is divided into two sections, one for art downloaded directly from the iTunes store and not embedded in tags, the other holds a cached copy of anything embedded. Neither has any practical limit other than the capacity of the drive.
It might be worth downloading the latest build (10.2.2.14) directly from http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ as the software update tools won't find it. It might not make a difference, but it can't hurt to try.

  • Podcast conversion painfully slow; can't add chapters while recording?

I'm finding GB3's conversion to m4a very, very slow.
For the last six months, I was using GB2 to mix my audio, iTunes to convert to m4a, and PodcastAV to add chapters and pictures. The mixdown process takes the same amount of time (10 minutes for an hour long podcast), but GB3 takes over half an hour to convert the audio to 64 kbps audio! In comparison, the equivalent iTunes takes three or four minutes to do the same. Is GarageBand not using the Velocity Engine?
Additionally, if I make any changes to the chapter info in GB3, I have to go through this painful 40+ minute process once again. Tools like PodcastAV and ChapterToolMe can take existing m4a files and simply pass it through unchanged, only modifying the chapter info. Is there a way around this?
Also, is there a way to add podcast chapters while recording? When recording, I can't select the podcast track to the "add chapter" button...
Gotta say I'm disappointed so far.
    17" powerbook (1.67)   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

OK, i have played a bit more with Iphoto and GarageBand. It is really the size of the pictures. The original size of my pictures is 2048x1536px. If i make the pictures much smaller, i can add them from the mediabrowser into the podcast.
What i now don't understand, why does it work if i drag them from the finder into garageband without editing the size? And what dimenson should the fotos have for optimal performance in the cast?

  • Can't add artwork to itunes movies

    Hi,
I am using Video Converter Ultimate to load my dvd collection in iTunes movies.  The converter output is .m4v file.  When I add artwork to the "Artwork" tab of the Get Info box It will add but then I get a spinning colored ball and I must force quit iTunes.  When I reopen the move in iTunes the movie will not play.  The move is there but when playing the movie it is black (no video will play).  Any suggestions?
    Thank you

The Movies are M2V formated, and have AC3 Audio (Have an AC3 Plugin' and Have Apples MPEG 2 component). So please can anyone help me get Artwork to my Movie in iTunes?
Sorry to say, it is not possible in this case. The ability to add/contain graphic "artwork" in iTunes is a property of the file container here. M4V and MP4 containers, for instance, can contain one such independent graphic. On the other hand, an MOV (assume you saved your M2V/AC3 data as an MOV) file cannot. On the other hand, your MOV file can have a "poster frame." If you are not a "purist," you can get around this problem by simply adding/drag 'n dropping your graphic to an appropriate point in your MOV file (I would recommend the end of the file), setting it as your "poster frame," and saving the file. In iTunes, this "poster frame" will now show up in your "artwork" display locations. (PS -- this is on a separate track as you attempted to do. In QT Pro, pre-position playhead to end of file and add JPEG track last so its layer is above main movie layer.)

  • Can you add audio from a movie to an imovie video of still images?

Does anyone know how I can add a sound clip from a movie to a video created in imovie?

The easiest way to separate the Video & Audio is to drag the muxed file to the Timeline. The exact position does not matter, but I'd choose a place where you can see the Clip that you will wish the "borrowed" Audio to go with - your "target" Clip. Once on the Timeline, Alt-click the Audio, to unlink it and then drag to an empty Audio Track near your desired target. Alt-click on the remaining Video of your source Clip and delete it.
Now, you do similar, should your "target" Clip have its own Audio, that you will want replaced. Alt-click on that Audio and delete it. Now, I'd turn off Snap and align the "borrowed" Audio to the "target" Video Clip. Once you have it where you want it, turn Snap back on.
The secret is the Alt-click to separate the Audio and the Video. Make sure to use this, especially if you want to delete one stream, as they are still linked. They're muxed, after all. I find this keystroke combo easier than using the Link/Unlink.
Last, if your "borrowed" Audio will fit into the area on the Audio Track, where you deleted the "target" Clip's Audio, you can then just drag your "borrowed" Audio to that Audio Track, or you can leave it where it is. The choice is yours and is just a housekeeping task anyway.
As I do a lot of Track specific work with the Audio Mixer, it is not uncommon for me to have similar looking Audio on different Tracks. With Audio Mixer, you apply Track Keyframes and Effects to the entire Track and not to the Clip. If one does nothing but Clip Effects and Keyframing, this will not matter.
    Good luck,

I want to add chapters to my movie. Not at 3, 5 or 10 minute intervals but where ever I want them. I create DVD's of basketball and football games and I would like to have chapters at the quarters. Is there an easy way to do this with iMovie/iDVD?

  • Add chapters to dvd

I have a dvd of a complete concert and I need to break it up into chapters so that they can select particular songs they want to upload on youtube. Anyone know how I can do this? Am I in the wrong discussion board? Thanks!

You can't add chapters to an existing DVD. Even if you had chapters it will not split the individual songs into files that can be uploaded separately to You Tube.
Read my MPEG Streamclip tutorial: http://www.secondchairvideo.com/?p=739 it shows you how to get the DVD content into an editable format.

    No.

  • How do I add chapters in iDVD?

Before judging me, please read my entire question.
I am asking for help in iDVD, not iMovie. I just finished adding video to my project. I read that if you want to add chapters to your movie, you go to the Advanced tab and click on Add Chapters. I did this, but the Add Chapters selection is GRAYED OUT! I cannot select it. How do I get it to ungray itself? Please, I don't know what else to do. Thanks.

  • How to add chapters to exported Apple TV movies

(The process works with QuickTime 7.4 and Final Cut Express 4.0)
To add chapters to movies exported from FCE using the "Apple TV" preset in the Export menu:
In a text editor, like TextEdit in the Applications folder, type your list of chapters.
Make each item very short (preferably one word but no more than two or three words) and separate each item with a carriage return.
    Choose Format/Make Plain Text.
Save the document as plain text.
In QuickTime Player, choose File > Open File, select the text file, and click Open.
Choose File > Export. In the Export pop-up menu, choose "Text to Text." In the Use pop-up menu, choose "Text with Descriptors."
Click Options. In the Text Export Settings dialog, select "Show Text, Descriptors, and Time"; select "Show time relative to start of Movie"; and set fractions of seconds to 1/30.
(The fractions really don't matter, we will change the value later)
Click OK, then click Save to create a text file with descriptors.
Open the exported list in your text editor, and open the target movie (formatted for Apple TV) in QuickTime Player.
Choose Window > Show Movie Inspector.
In QuickTime Player, drag the playhead on the timeline to find the first point in the movie where you want to begin a new chapter.
Use the Right and Left Arrow keys to step forward or backward a frame at a time as needed. Note the current time in the Inspector window.
In the text file, find the timeScale attribute and change to 24.46.
Next, find the first chapter title and change the timestamp just before that chapter title to the time you noted in the Inspector window.
Example: For a chapter called "one" that starts at 4 seconds, 21 frames into the movie, you would revise the text to look like this:
    (00:00:04.21)
    *{textBox: 0, 0, 50, 160}one*
    Ignore the textBox attribute.
Repeat steps until you've identified all the places in the movie that correspond to the chapter divisions and you've entered the proper timestamps in the text file.
Change the last timestamp (the one after the last chapter title in the text file) to match the duration of the movie.
    Save the text file.
Open the text file in QuickTime Player.
Choose Edit > Select All, choose Edit > Copy.
Click in the target movie, make sure the playhead is at the beginning, choose Edit > "Add to Movie"
QuickTime adds the text track to the movie.
Choose Window > Show Movie Properties.
In the Properties window, select the video or audio track you want to associate with the chapter track, and click Other Settings.
Normally you would choose the main video track.
(alternatively, choose audio track from the Chapters pop-up menu. If you have a movie with alternate subtitle or sound tracks, you can create multiple chapter lists in different languages and set the appropriate subtitle or sound track as the owner of each chapter list. The chapter list will change to match the selected language.)
    Select the text track.
Deselect the check box for the text track so that it doesn't display on top of the video.
The new track will still function as a chapter track.
Save the movie as a self-contained movie.
In the Finder, drag the movie to iTunes, and then Sync to Apple TV. The movie will play in Apple TV with Chapters!
