Neither the storage nor the RAM on a Macbook Air is designed to be upgradeable - you need to be certain what you want when you buy it. Given that, if you have any doubts at all as to 128GB being enough you should go for 256GB. It depends on what you are going to be doing. If you are going to clutter it up with lots of movies they will eat space very fast; and music will eat space fairly fast.
For what it's worth my iMac with notionally 500GB of storage (actually 463GB) uses 210 GB with a lot of documents and a fair amount of music and other audio recordings (but no movies). The basic System and applications will use a moderate amount; and remember that you shouldn't ever fill the storage right up as this will seriously affect the performance (at least 10% of the storage needs to be left free for system use - swap files and so on).

  • Can I hard wire a link between Macbook Air and Mac Pro?

My Macbook Air currently connects to my office network using WiFi.
But for some reason it takes 20 hours to load new software onto the Air using disc sharing from my Mac Pro, the fastest of my desktops.
The transfer is over Wi-Fi and involves several Gb of data, but it seems excessively slow.
Is there any way of hard-wiring the Air to the Pro to allow faster installation?
The Air has both Thunderbolt and USB sockets, whilst the Pro has USB and Firewire.
    Many thanks,
    Bristly Badger

I would suggest to use a Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter with the Air. Disconnect the MacPro from the Network, simply connect the cable to the MacBook Air's Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter instead. Wait a few seconds until both computers have picked self-assigned IP Addresses, and the shared disk should show up on the MacBook Air. Speed will be 100MB/s. In other words, 10GB will transfer in two minutes. (If the Pro's disks can keep up, that is...)

  • How can close the lid to my macbook air and continue listening to my music?

How can I close the lid to my Macbook Air and continue listening to my music? When the lid is closed the music stops playing.

The computer will immediately go to sleep when the lid is closed unless there is an external display attached to the computer. This is a feature that is not user configurable.

  • I just purchase my first macbook air and i don't know how to download my microsoft office 2010 that i have already purchased for my old computer. Do i need to purchase again for the microsoft office for the mac?

I have a windows computer before i purchased my mac and i had already spend $500 for microsoft office professional 2010, i would ike to know if i can download the same one to my macbook air and how to do it. please need help!

The problem is that your Office 2010 package is a Windows application, and Windows softare doesn't run natively under MacOS. As a result, you can't simply download it or install it on your MacBook Air.
You can set up your MacBook Air to run Windows as well as MacOS, using either Boot Camp (where you pick whether to run Windows or MacOS each time the system starts, but you can't run both at the same time) or using a 'virtual' Windows installation (where you use software such as VMware to create a virtual Windows machine which you run as a window inside MacOS), but in either case you'll need a licence for Windows, plus the virtualisation software if you want to go that route. In other words, it's not simple, though in either case your Office software would be usable.
Some software houses are prepared to cross-licence software in this sort of instance - they'll allow a copy for one platform to lapse and charge a relatively low amount for new copy, on the basis that the user has already paid full price, but Microsoft generally don't seem generally cooperative in that instance.

  • Can we add external graphic card on macbook pro

can we add graphic card to my macbook pro late 2011
    i7 processor

Not yet, no. MSI is showing an early demonstration of a Thunderbolt peripheral that will host an external graphics card, so there may be a solution eventually though it currently is Windows-only. See:

  • I am out of space on my Macbook Air and have a Time Machine Backup. I want to complete reset my mac, but wonder if I can pick and choose what I restore to my computer? Can I also use my time machine backup and external storage as well?

I am out of space on my Macbook Air and have a Time Machine Backup. I want to complete reset my mac, but wonder if I can pick and choose what I restore to my computer? Can I also use my time machine backup as external storage as well for the files I don't need everyday?

If you are using "Restore from Time Machine Backup" option from OS X Recovery, you can only choose from the broad categories presented.
... Can I also use my time machine backup as external storage as well for the files I don't need everyday?
To be clear, if you are asking if you can use the volume containing your Time Machine backup to store additional, non-Time Machine files, the short answer is yes.
It's not a good idea though, since the Time Machine backup will eventually fill all available space, after which it begins to remove old, "expired" backups to make room for newer ones. The presence of additional files doesn't change that fact, and Time Machine will not erase them, but you will encounter a dilemma should you want to store additional files on that volume when there is no remaining space. You will have to make room for them on your own, by deleting existing files. Furthermore, since Time Machine cannot back up its own volume, those additional files will not be backed up by Time Machine.
The easy solution for what you describe is to purchase additional external storage. External USB hard disk drives have become very inexpensive; about $55 will buy a perfectly suitable 1 TB drive.
You can also choose to replace your MacBook Air's internal storage with a larger capacity one. Look for a suitable replacement from OWC / MacSales:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/SSD/OWC/Air-Retina
That gets a little more expensive but it is the optimum solution.

  • I have bought a 2nd hand late 2008 macbook air and can't install iPhoto as it requires update 10.9 or higher i can't seem to update any further than 10.7.5 help???

I have bought a 2nd hand late 2008 macbook air and can't install iPhoto as it says it requires update 10.9 or higher i can't seem to update any further than 10.7.5 can anyone help please???

Thankyou for your response... being new to this i have had a look and it says the following
This system can run the last version of OS X 10.8 "Mountain Lion" as well as the current version of OS X 10.9 "Mavericks," but does not support the AirDrop, AirPlay Mirroring, or Power Nap features. It is not supported booting into 64-bit mode when running Mac OS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard." It does support "OpenCL" and Grand Central Dispatch introduced with Mac OS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard."
Please note that OS X "Lion" 10.7 and subsequent versions of OS X, like Mountain Lion and Mavericks, are not capable of running Mac OS X apps originally written for the PowerPC processor as these operating systems do not support the "Rosetta" environment. To run PowerPC applications on this Mac, it will be necessary to use Mac OS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard" or earlier
    what do i do next
Thankyou once again for your reply

  • How can i add STORAGE LOCATION field which is not...............

    hi,
    sap gurus,
    good morning to all,
how can i add STORAGE LOCATION field which is not in the standard tables namely
    KOMP, KOMK, and KOMG.
how to include it in our FIELDS FROM FIELD CATALOGUE.
if we include this field is there any impact on the standard tables.
    plz let me know this.
    bcz
we are selling our products in two ways
(1). one is straight from factory ie direct sales from factory
if customer asks for excise invoice then we will sell thru factory and keeping freight in mind we will
deliver him which ever is economical either rail or road.
before coming to second case of selling the goods
we will do STOCK TRANSPORT ORDER from plant to different storage locations.
if we did STO thru road we have to sell the goods thru road only.
if we did STO thru rail we have to sell the goods thru rail route only.
(2). if the customer is not asking any excise invoice then we will send the goods thru depo/storage
location which is not registered under excise.
if the goods came by road then it will be delivered by road only.
if the goods came by rail then it will be delivered by rail only.
    my logic here is
    basing on the
storage location, transportation types, and distance i want to create condition record
that captures exact frieght at the sales order level.
confirm whether i am right or wrong.

    Hi,
It is not recommended to add new fields to any SAP standard tables. It disturbs the whole SAP functionality.
But if you have no choice expcept to change the standard tables to meet your requirement -  then you need an access key to modify the object, which is available from the market place.
Nevertheless, the better option is to create a 'Z' table with the required fields and use that accordingly.
Changing standard tables will have serious impact when you apply patches or do an upgrade on the existing functionality.
    REWARD POINTS IF HELPFUL

  • TS3274 can you add storage to ipad

can you add a micro sd card to i pad for more storage

You can't add storage to an iPad, and the card camera connection kit (which has an SD card reader) only allows you to copy photos/videos to the Photos app. There are some wifi-enabled drives (e.g. Seagate GoFlex Satellite) that you can get that allow you to stream content (e.g. films, tv programmes, music) to an iPad so they don't have to be stored on it, therefore possibly allowing you to free-up space on it

How do I add colors to my folders? I can't do it on my new MacBook Air? ***

Where do you want the color? The folders themselves (i.e. get rid of the blue folders)?
If that is what you want, you can simply do a Command + I  (get info) on a blue folder. After downloading some other icons, do a get info on that icon, highlight the icon and copy it; after that, paste it into the blue folder icon. This is my user folder:

I want to download a movie from itunes.  My ipad (first one) says I do not have storage.  How can I add storage?

To do what you want to do, no.
Now there are devices like the Seagate GoFlex that advertises itself as a portable harddrive with its own wifi hotspot that your ipad can connect to and stream movies from.

  • Updated osx and flash storage for macbook air and now i can't start up

I updated my macbook air, and now when it restarts I get a circle with a line through it, then the apple, then the screen turns blue, and then it takes me right to the disk utility.  It wont boot my desktop.  Help!

You say you updated the flash storage.  I'm guessing you just recently had it replaced by an Authorized Apple Service Center, perhaps as part of the replacement program.
If that's true, take it back to the Authorized Apple Service Center and have them fix it so the new flash drive boots for you.  They should have done that originally.

  • I just purchased a macbook air, and because of the limited memory (256 gb) and my HUGE music library, I need aomne form of external storage.  i am considering either using iCloud for iTunes, or purchasing an external hard drive.  suggestions or opinions?

hi!  just purchased a macbook air, and because of the limited storage (256 gb) and my massive music library, I am going to find an alternative storage method.  I am debating between an external hard drive and utilizing iCloud. icloud makes me a little nervous....having my entire library in "the cloud" and deleted off of my desktop - do most of you who use icloud for music and photos have a backup on external hard drive anyway? So....iCloud vs. external hard drive for storage.  Thoughts?  opinions?  thanks!

iTunes Match allows you to put 25,000 songs in the Cloud. At present it isn't possible to add more storage but I wouldn be surprised if that isn't an option offered in the future. With iTunes Match you allow Apple to match your songs (purchased from Apple, ripped from your own CDs are purchased elsewhere). When Apple cannot match a song a copy of yours is uploaded.
Once the match process is complete (for my 24,000+ collection it took a couple days) the fun begins. Since my MBA can't hanle all my music, I use iTunes Match to download a small selection of my music every couple of weeks. My music remains in the cloud even when I delete them from my computer and if I have WiFi accesss I can get new songs. It is a great service and much more convenient than keeping your MBA's music on an external drive.
