*** Can I archive and export a self-contained DVDSP project?

I think I'm having trouble with the burner on my tower so I would like to try my current project on my other tower. I would rather not rebuild the project, so is there a way to archive and export the project as a self-contained file so it will open up on another machine and I won't have to re-link everything?
Thanks in advance.

Nope, no way to back up project like that. If you make folders though and then with the Project right beneath the root folder and other folders beneath it, then copy the entire folder over, it will relink. Take a look here

  • How can I copy and export a speaker track between project file?

Hi, I am using Premiere Elements 12. I need to copy a speaker track (nothing else) in one project file and paste it into a new track in another project file. I can mark and copy the track but then it is IMPOSSIBLE to paste it. I have no such option - very confusing...
I have tried to mark the complete track, group the parts etc but nothing works...
I can not find any answers via google or the help files...

As for PrPro, one would be working with a different setup - Sequences, within a single Project. PrE does not have Sequences, which are like mini-Projects, but within one single Project. In PrPro, you could Select your Audio Clip, or Clips, Copy, then Open a New Sequence, Target a particular Audio Track in the New Sequence, place the CTI (Current Time Indicator - or Playhead) on that New Sequence at the desired point, then just Paste.
Given your situation, in PrE, this would be my workflow, assuming that I had more than one Audio Track with Clips, but only wanted to use ONE of those in other Projects:
    Open Project
Do a Save_As, naming it something like "Speaker_Audio."
Delete any other Audio, that I did not wish to export.
Publish+Share the remaining "speaker" Audio as a PCM/WAV @48KHz 16-bit (to get just the Audio, one would scroll down to near the list of the Publish+Share Options Panel, to Audio.
Import that output PCM/WAV into the next Project.
Done. The original Project would still have all Audio, untouched.
    Good luck,

  • Exports a self contained, then renders.  Why?

I exported a self contained Quicktime movie (same settings as footage--HDV--no recompressed frames). My exported file is named exactly as I named it, but with four additional mysterious digits at the end. Here's what I don't get: FCP says it's still writing video. Why? Is it writing a render file? It's already exported a self-contained movie that appears to be complete (I watched the end). What's the point of this render file? (The exported movie contains 4 fades, and 2 text titles). Not sure whether to stop the "writing video" so I can do some other work, or leave it in case it's needed by my self-contained file.

    Hi:
If your sequence is just plain video edit, I mean, no effects, color correction, graphic elements (text, etc), then you'll get no quality difference encoding from your timeline or from the self contained. Both sources are same quality.
But if you have effects and graphcis in your sequence that you need to render, then you'll get the best quality encoding directly from the timeline, because FCP will use the raw info from each frame as source for the encoding, NOT the rendered ones.
The difference in quality depends on how heavy your effects/graphics are.
    Hope that helps !

  • Does anyone know how to archive and export individual blogs from OS X blog server?

I work for a school and we'd like to allow students to leave with their work on our blog server in html form. I have looked through the documentation provided by Apple and third party writers and googled around, but haven't come across any references to exporting blogs and wikis as self-contained structures, with all files, images and links intact.
We are running a Snow Leopard server. BTW
    Any ideas?

I'm afraid you've fallen over a requirement that Apple has recently introduced. The iPhone plays podcasts by using 'byte-range requests', which means calling for part of the file at a time rather than the whole thing. Unfortunately some servers don't support this, and there were an increasing number of complaints that podcasts which worked elsewhwere weren't working on an iPhone.
So Apple are now making the ability to handle this a condition of submission. Evidently your server doesn't support this, so all you can do is to ask them whether they can implement it. If not, you will have to find another hosting service - ask about this before committing yourself, and if they say no, or don't know what it is, find another host. Note that if, as some people do, you are hosting the feed and the episodes on different servers, it is the server hosting the episodeswhich is in question.
If you would like to post the URL of one of your media files it may be possible to check your server - there is a test though I'm not sure it's 100% accurate.

  • Am I exporting to Self Contained Movie properly?

    Hi,
I think I'm doing this properly, but perhaps someone will have more experience and expertice!  We shoot on a Canon XF300 camera, which natively captures on XDCAM HD422 720p30 (50mbs).  FCPro 7 could capture natively, but am I correct, X cannot?  (Please . . . somebody tell me Apple does have the codecs for XDCAM native import!)
No problem, we open 7 to capture from our cards we shoot on.  THEN we quit 7, open X and import the files!  So we keep the fast import speed and "smaller" files (50 mbs vs. 65 in Prorez) of the individual captured clips.  We import for highest quality at Prorez 422 into X.  Edit everything - and now for the question.
It's time to export a master.  I have "learned" this - I THOUGHT if  X was set (in the edit menu) to ProRez 422 better performance, or the Best quality, or Proxy - I THOUGHT when you export, the quality wa always the best X can do.  (Basically ProRez422 at 65mbs.)
But I find now I was wrong!
When I export to Self Contained Movie with settings left on "Proxy" the exported file is ProRes422 and plays at 20mbs.  Much "lower" quality than we want.  But leave all setting the same in X, except change the "quality" to original or optimized best performance OR BEST quality - the export is still ProRes422, but the data rate is 65mbs.  (Which I assume is "better"!)  BTW, we use 12x720.
So I was wrong!  It's important (I'm guessing and looking for conformation) that if we want the BEST export quality, we should NOT have it set to PROXY!
I think everyone will agree with everything I've said so far, as that's what we're finding.  But NOW I see X will export at XDCAM Prores422 at 50mbs (by changing the codec on the export menu.)  Now, the result is 50mbs (lower than 65mbs, good! Takes up less data)
But . . . WHY would X export at XDCAM Prores422HD (at 50mbs) but NOT IMPORT OUR NATIVE FOOTAGE OF THE SAME VINTAGE?
    What am I missing here?
Thanks - hopefully many people have the same thoughts?
    Larry

Tom, it's all a bit confusing, although I have spent considerable time with Canon on this!  What I KNOW is FCP 7 will import footage shot on our Canon XF300 natively.  The exact codec FC uses is
"XDCAM HD422 720p30 (50mbs)"  It works beautifully.  2 BIG advantages for us - it uses 50mbs when it converts to QT files (vs. 65mbs in ProRes)  and it imports native clips about 4 times faster than converting to Prores.  (On the other side, though - when you render in FC - if the sequence is setup on the cative codec above - it DOES take considerable longer to render anything but that's life, I guess!!
FC then exports using that codec as well, making the self contained exports play at 50mbs, NOT 65 that ProRes seems to.
BUT . . . as we discussed above - FCP X will export to "XDCAM HD422 720p30 (50mbs)" but NOT injest footage in the XDCAM format.  We  ingest with 7, then quit 7 and open X to import the files - I don't understand why FCP X exports in XDCAM, but not log and transfer files natively in that same codec?
    Thanks,

  • Cannot export a self contained Qucktime movie

As of yesterday I have lost the ability to export a self contained Quicktime move from FCE. The sequence is complete and rendered and I have exported as recently as last month but now it simply makes what's known as a reference movie with the suffix .mov
The Export drop down menu still displays all the Quicktime options.
Additionally the Quicktime icon in my dock when clicked displays a question mark. I tried downloading Quicktime but still no go.
    Please help Tom

Right but what I am trying to convey is that I need to generate the brushed chrome framed, high quality, up-loadable, stand alone video that I used to get with ease and I cannot get that with my FCE. What are you calling it, what is the proper term because I always called them Quicktime. I made one less than 2 months a go.
Quicktime is present in my System Prefs but is not in the dock. When it was a question mark appeared over it. I cannot find it, launch it, etc.

  • Can you archive and install on Lion?....

can you archive and install on Lion?.... in the normal way.... how much free space would you need?
    (macbook with 250gb HD)

It's automatic since Snow Leopard. The installer determines whether it's making a clean install or replacing an existing one. In the latter case it behaves similarly to the old Archive and Install:
Reinstalling Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.

  • Cant export AV Self contained but can export QT Conversion Full Quality DV

Having trouble exporting Quicktime movie, "Self-Contained"is checked. Include Audio & Video. It exports about 3/4 of the way and than get general error. I have searched the forum but found nothing that would help. I have exported it using quicktime conversion Full quality Dv and it exports fine and plays fine. But when I import full quality dv back into fce and render it, the last 10 minutes of the 22 minute video has no sound. All music is aiff and all pics are jpeg, tif, And video is all original DV. Have have made several videos using all the same types of format and have never had this problem. Could someone help. Thanks.....Rick

Did you render all and mix down the audio before you attempted to export the movie?
Sequence > Render All > Both
Sequence > Render Only > Mixdown
Do both of them, in order, then save your project, then try exporting again.

  • Movies edited in QT Pro and saved as self-contained revert in iTunes

Hi all. I'm having a consistent bad experience editing QT movies in the QT Pro player. This is the typical workflow (on Mac OS X 10.5.7, lates QT update):
    1. Screencast captured in iShowU HD saved as .mov with H264 codec
    2. Edited .mov in QT Player (Pro) to trim unwanted footage and tidy dropped frames etc. This sometimes is just deleting portions of the footage, sometimes copying a selection and pasting in a new document, sometimes doing this to combine multiple selections in a new document.
    3. Save as self-contained QT .mov (every time without fail - I don't use reference movies)
These new movies look fine in QT Player, and import nicely into Keynote, and my Keynote presentations export to Quicktime movies fine.
However, when I try to export in ANY format and view in other software (including iTunes and the iPhone), either using QT presets (iphone, AVI, etc) or custom settings, or Handbrake (ffmpeg), or zamzar.com, the result is always either the full unedited footage, or something that approaches the original, but with corruption at the edit points.
The problems are occuring on both my MBP and my Mini, which have very slightly different software installed (eg Perian on the MBP but not the Mini)
What's going wrong and what can I do to put it right?
    Many thanks in advance.
    Mac

I am not talking about mpeg 1 or 2. I take a 100 MB dv, mpeg4 or h.262 clip, set an in and out point, hit trim to selection and hit apple S. it QUICKLY saves the file without rewriting the data fork and keeps it at 100 MB on my disc, even though the data size is now 50 MB in QT. so, the data is not lost, it is still there on my HD, just with new tags to tell quicktime what part to use and what part to ignore . I would prefer to just keep the one 100 MB file that i could retrieve the original if i want instead of keeping that 100 MB file and choosing save as and getting a new 50 MB file, now having to store 150 MB to have the original and edited one.

  • Does the choice to export a self contained movie or not appear in FCE?

That's my simple question. Then I will move on.
I found this in the FCE manual under Exporting Sequences to DVD:
    2. Configure the Save dialog as desired.
In most cases, you will leave the Include pop-up menu set to Audio and Video. If you
have created any markers, choose DVD Studio Pro Markers in the Markers pop-up
menu. iDVD can use either self-contained or reference movies, allowing you to decide
whether to make the movie self-contained based on other requirements (disk space
    and so on).

Did you see this in your other post? -
All you need to do for top quality results is this:-
    1. Go to File>Export>QuickTime Movie.
    2. In the Save window that appears give it a title and DO NOT tick the "Make Movie Self-Contained" if you are using it on your present computer and are not deleting any files.
    3. Open iDVD and navigate to your QT movie and drag it into the iDVD's Theme that you have chosen.
    4. Do anything else you want in iDVD and burn the DVD.

  • Export several self contained movies via "Automator"?

    Hi,
If we have, say a 30 minute FCPro 7 sequence open, I want to chapter mark about 30 portions of the time line with Chapter markers.  Everything works perfectly, even iDVD recognizes them.
NOW . . . I'd like to export each "clip" - they're about 1 minute each - as a self contained movie.  Easy - but very work intensive having an in and out point and exporting.  But it works well.
Is there a way using Automator to somehow tell it to take each chapter marker (30 of them) and export every section so I don't have to each one manually via in and out points?
Anyone know any secrets as to how this might work?
    Thanks,
    Larry

Forget Automator. Not even AppleScript works with FCP.
Can Batch Export be convinced to do this for you? What happnes if you take that sequence with the markers and drop it into a Browser? Can the markers then be used to create clips? If so, tey might be able to addressed by Batch Export.
Sorry, got no idea if it's possible.

  • Exporting Non Self Contained

I want to export a sequence but I don't want it to be 1 large file but just the same clips in a different format. I tried unchecking "make movie self-contained" but it didn't do it. Anyway I can do this? Thanks

    RichCamp wrote:
I want it all to be separate clips so I can smoothcam each one separately. Do you know the best way to do that?
that's not the same thing as your original post at a all.
Pop open the manuals or the online help and read up on using the Optical flow and Smoothcam systems. Very carefully. the biggest gotchas is that the analysis wil be performed on the netire media clip unless you do an export. However, if you do a reference movie, I don't think you can set ina dn outs. Smoothcam will still attempt to look at the entire media beig pointed at.

  • Exporting to self contained QT

I have a video clip as my first slide, and then subsequent still slides with a song playing throughout the presentation.
When I export to QT on to my desktop I get two files. One, the presentation and the second, the QT song file.
How does one incorporate both into a true self contained playable movie?

I don't think the way you've created the Keynote will allow a self contained export file.
But there's an easy way to combine them without any high-end editing software like FCP. Just open both video and audio files in QuickTimePro. Expand the selection points on the audio file to include the entire song and then copy. Then go to your video file and place the playhead where you want to audio file to begin. Under the "Edit" menu select "Add to Movie" and the music file will be perfectly inserted.

  • Exporting movie - self contained = help

    Hello,
I've finished my work in fcp, im ready to export; I need to make 2 different formats for every exported movie.. one is for dvd and the other is for internet (will use compressor)
when i export from fcp using quicktime movie, do I make it self contained or not? self contained takes a lot of space..... once i hand in the files, I will delete all, don't need a copy from that work...
my main question is, does it make any difference if I use compressor with a self contained movie or a NOT-self c m?
    thanks

referenced movies work just fine in compressor so long as you are not about to delete the raw footagen or render files.
