Can I authorize a computer without it being on the same network?

I bought a new computer. I want to transfer my itunes account to it. Do I really need to spend the money to make a direct connection between the two computers to do it?

Hi DP07:
Welcome to Apple Discussions!
That is one way to transfer the music from your old computer to your new computer. You can also use your iPod if you have one: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300173

  • How to permanently connect to a minimal without being on the same network?

I'm trying to connect my mini-mac to my mac book pro permanently so that they will appear in each other's finders even when they are not on the same network. I've done it before but I can't remember how I did it. Help?

    Hello,
If you can download the driver on a computer that does have access to the internet you can transfer the file to the other computer using a USB Drive.
    I work for HP.

As long as you are behind a router, you don't need to have your firewall turned on at all, in fact it probably slows your computer and/or internet connection down a bit. The only time you need it is to either protect yourself against intrusion from others on your local network or if you hook your computer directly to a cable / DSL modem. • HT4356 Do I need an App to print from my iPad to my new HP AirPrint capable printer?  My iPad says it can't find a printer and we are on the same network.

I have a new HP LaserJet M1217nfw MFP that is supposed to have air print. My iPad isn't reading it.  Is there something special I need to do?  Both are on the same network and my laptop is working fine with it.  Any suggestions?

    1. Make sure it's setup for network printing

    2. You can try using this App

How can I authorize a new computer without losing my old iPod songs if I no longer have any of the previous five authorized computers?

Use the Deauthorize All command documented in this article, or if it isn't an option, the 'contact iTunes Store support' link at the bottom of it.

  • Can two servers running windows sbs 2008 be on the same network

I have two HP proliant dl360 servers. We are trying to set up one as a file server. Can we install a copy of Windows sbs 2008 on both machines (we have the license) in the same network

    Hi
Every one is quite right you can not install SBS2008 on both machines. Only 1 server on a network can have SBS on it.
However all you need for the second file only server is Server 2008 (it doesn't need to be SBS)
    Things to investigate
    1. If you have a license for SBS2008 you may run Server 2008 on other servers with no additional client licenses (if you install server 2008R2 or higher on a second or more servers, you will need both SBS2008 and Server 2008R2 client licenses for each user)
    So client licenses are sorted
    2. If you already have 2 copies of SBS2008 for install, you may find you can downgrade SBS2008 to server 2008 (you will need to double check this, but generally means you can install Server 2008 without having to spend the extra money as you already have
    paid for the SBS2008)
    3. You may find a old retail copy of Server 2008 on ebay you can buy
Generally the solution to this is, SBS2008 goes on the most powerful server, and is set up as the domain controller, exchange etc.... then on the second server you just install Server 2008 and join it to the domain to be controlled by SBS2008 server, you
don't need to worry about extra CALS, as long as you stay Server 2008 or under
You then set up this second server independently with backups, shadowcopies and shared folders
Group policies for both are configured on the SBS box so you can set up predefined mapping etc
The difficulty you will have is obtaining the old software
If you uses SBS2011 you can use Server 2008R2 and before with no additional CALS
CALS relate to the core OS used, in SBS2008 it is 2008 in SBS 2011 it is 2008R2
    Hope this helps

Can I connect more then one cDAQ-9188 to moxa EDS-G205-T for querying simultaneously in the same PC?
thanks in advance for any response.

You will need a network switch and make sure they are different IP Addresses, but same subnet.

  • Can windows computers get viruses from a mac on the same network?

    Hi,
I am using a Powerbook G4 powerPC running OSX 10.3. My current employers think that my computer is giving their system viruses by being hooked up to their network. The network is all windows, and I can't actually see their computers on the network. All I can do is connect to the internet.
As is my understanding, which could be wrong, a) there are virtually no viruss for Apple computers, b) any virus for an apple computer cannot effect a Windows computer, and c) Mac computers do not act as carriers for viruses written for Windows, and as long as I'm not downloading anything I shouldn't (which I don't, virtually every file on my computer either came with the installation disk or was created on my computer). Is there any way I can actually be giving them viruses that would effect a windows machine? And if so, is there any way to protect against that?

The only way you can be giving coworkers a virus from your Mac is if you forward one to them in an email. Well, either that are directly copying it to their PC. For you topic questions:
    a) Actually, there are none. At least not yet. A few Trojans, but no viruses.
    b) Correct. Wrong machine code. They wouldn't run even if you did send them an older virus (one of a couple dozen Mac viruses from OS 9 and earlier)
    c) Not as you describe. But you can be a carrier via email. Even there, you have to accidentally or knowingly send it to them. A Windows virus cannot self propagate from your Mac as it can in Windows.
This all assuming your are using your Mac only as a Mac and not running Windows through Virtual PC or in some other way. If you are, then the Windows environment will be every bit as vulnerable as it would be on typical PC hardware.

  • 2 Time Capsules ,2 macs. Can I synch one Mac to each TC on the same network please?

    Hi All,
I have a network with a 2 Macs synching to one Time Capsule. My Daughter just got a new Mac and I have got a new TC just for her Mac. What is the best way to configure please? Currently we have an Airport Extreme, with the original Time Capsule extending the network. I want to assume that I can just start off the new (second TC)TC and link it solely to my daughter's new Mac, but from what I have read in other support communities perhaps it is not that easy?
    So two questions.
    1. Will it work
2, If so, which config please: AE+TC+TC
Thanks for all the help in advance. Andrew.

If you want your daughter's TC to connect using wireless, configure it to "Extend a wireless network".
Her TC will extend the AirPort Extreme network as well, so locate her TC close to the AirPort Extreme for the configuration. Once you have the settings saved, then move it to the desired location.
Obviously, it is important that her TC be located where it can receive a good signal from the AirPort Extreme.
Then, open Time Machine on her Mac and "point" her Mac at "her" TC, not yours.

  • Can you setup handoff to work with two mac computers on the same network?

I am attempting to setup handoff to work with two computers on the same network. I cannot seem to get it to work. Should I be able to?

I'm not sure but I haven't seen anything on the Apple site that indicates that it would not work. The following troubleshooting documents may help: Get help using Continuity with iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite - Apple Support
Note in particular the Mac models supported. The other thing that occurs to me is that in addition to being on the same network they would have to be within Bluetooth range of each other.

Can I authorize mulitple apple ids on the same device so that what is purchased on either account will be loaded in both devices without having to use the same ID?
My wife has a laptop and an iphone 4s, I have a laptop and and iphone 4s, our two sons have our old iphone 3s, we have an old laptop for our sons to use.  Our old iphones for our sons are deactivated as phones - so they are used as i-touches for songs, pictures and aps.  I want to use icloud (which I'm new to) to hopefully have all four iphones and all three computers stay synced with at least music - if not aps and pictures.  My wife has an apple ID and I have one.  I'd like to authorize all three laptops for both apple IDs so that we will still have our own accounts, but everything either of us buys will be automatically loaded into all three laptops and all four iphones.  Can this be done?
    Thanks,
    sstultzcostello

Each person in your home can have their own Apple ID provided it is tied the their own separate email address.
iTunes permits up to five authorized computers connected to a single Apple ID: iTunes Store- About authorization and deauthorization.
For this all to work well, however, each user in your household should have a separate user account on the computer they commonly use.
