CAN I AUTHORIZE MY OWN COMPUTER?

I have a 2004 G-5 and I think the I-tunes is about version 7. After over a year of acquiring music through the I-Tunes Store I can't play the music I paid for. "This Computer is not Authorized to Play..." is the message I get for nearly all of my library (one or two recently purchased songs will play without the bogus "authorization"). I also get repeated insistence that I upgrade to I-Tunes 8 even though that cannot be done with my operating system (10.3.9). I have renewed my Apple ID and my password; I have followed the detailed instructions (played one of the songs I can play).
What does one have to do to play songs?

i can´t neighter authorize my second computer nor my ebook on ADE. i get the messade Adobe ID already use my another computer or ebook.
how can i authorize an other computer or my ebook?

The system sometimes gets confused.  Try explicitly deauthorizing the computer (ctrl-shift-D to ADE) and the device (ctrl-shift-E to ADE when the device is plugged in).
Restart ADE, and see if the authorization can work any better.
You have a maximum of 6 computers/devices for an ID.  Maybe with old devices you are trying to get more than 6?
If so, you must contact Adobe service (live chat is easiest http://www.adobe.com/support/chat/ivrchat.html ) and ask them to deauthorise all devices.
You should then be able to reauthorise those computers/devices you still need.

how can I authorize my new computer (win7 prof 64bit) on ADE 3.0 (previous Win XP; ADE 2.0)?

    Two things worth trying ..

Sometimes ADE gets its registration/activation confused and in a semi-authorized state.
Uninstalling and reinstalling does not help.
Unfortunately, it often then gives misleading error messages about what is wrong.
A common incorrect message informs you that the ID is already in use on another computer and cannot be reused.
This can often be resolved by completely removing any authorization using ctrl-shift-D to the Library screen on ADE (cmd-shift-D if on Mac).
Restart ADE, and then reauthorize with your (old) Adobe ID.
In extreme cases on the mac, the following extra step has helped some people.  Navigate to /Users//Library/Application Support/Adobe/Digital Editions and drag the activation.dat file to the trash. If you are using 10.7, see Access hidden user library files | Mac OS 10.7 Lion. http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1265248?tstart=0

There are lots of bugs in ADE2.0.  Try replacing ADE2.0 with the older but more reliable v1.7.2.
(You can have them both installed at once if you like.)
Version 1.7.2, it is a little difficult to find, available on Adobe site for Windows and for Mac.

If you type '''C:''' in the location bar it will show the contents of that drive, you can select folders by clicking on them.

  • HT5622 How can I authorize a new computer (with windows 8) without deauthorizing my other computers (windows 7) . Under manage your account the only choice given is to deauthorize all computers already authorized

I just bought a new computer with windows 8. I have 2 other computers (windows 7) authorized for itunes. When I go to manage your account the only choice I am give is to deauthorize all computers. There is no place from which to authorize this new computer or to deauthorize the 1 computer that is dead rather than both. Suggestions appreciated

To authorize the Windows 8 computer, press the Alt and S keys and choose Authorize this Computer, or click here, follow the instructions, click on Store in the menu bar, and choose Authorize this Computer.
It isn't possible to individually deauthorize a computer which is dead or which you don't have either physical or network access to.

  • How can I authorize a new computer when my iMac account has changed?

For several years, my iTunes account was listed under my former email address. I now have a different computer and I am using my iMac address for my account, When I attempt to play tunes that I purchased and downloaded under the former account, I get a message that says I must authorize this computer. If I try to authorize the new computer using the old account, I get a message that account no longer exists (which is true). If I try to authorize using the new account, I get a message telling me this computer is already authorized (also true). But it still won't let me play songs authorized under the old account! Any suggestions????

Press the Alt and S keys and choose Authorize this Computer, or click here, follow the instructions, click on Store in the menu bar, and choose Authorize this Computer.

  • TS1424 I can't authorize my new computer! There is no menu under "Store" it just sends me to the store. My old computer's dead! HELP!

Okay. My old laptop died. I didn't use iTunes much on it but I had it and I'd authorized that and my iPhone. On my account it showed the old computer and my iPhone as Authorized.
I went to the support to find out how to authorize this computer when I could not download the albums I bought. The support tab told me to open the Store menu in iTunes and choose to authorize the computer on its menu.
Trouble is, there is no "Store" menu. Clicking on Store takes me to a page that's mostly trying to sell me albums I never heard of in genres I don't like and has a tiny little section off to the side where I can check my account, redeem, look at what I purchased and something else but not "authorize new computer."
My old computer is toast. It's dead. I can't access iTunes through it. On the new one I have iTunes downloaded for the 64 bit version and I've got Windows 7.
I need to know why I don't have that menu or that option and how I can authorize this computer without it.

    Hello robertsloan2,
Thanks for the question. I understand that you are attempting to access the "Store" menu, however it sounds like your menubar is not visible. The following article outlines how to show the menubar:
iTunes: Turning on iTunes menus in Windows 8 and 7
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5610
Once displayed, you'll see the "Store" menu with the "Authorize this computer" option.

  • Can't authorize my work computer

(I posted this elsewhere in the wrong forum so if you see it twice, sorry.)
I've gone through everything I can find on how to authorize my computer (my home computer is fine), but I think there's some issue with the firewall we're set up with at work. I can't log into the iTunes store from iTunes.
I can access the Internet through a web browser, but when I try to authorize from iTunes it says I need to log into the proxy server. Is there a setting in iTunes that lets me specify a proxy server?
Failing that, is there a web-based way to authorize a computer?
And, failing THAT, is there a way to get around this foolishness? I have a work computer and a home computer... I'm not sharing my files with half the world... just let me use them!

You could pass this on to your IT people:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3884378&#3884378
Also, can you play any of the radio streams in iTunes? If not, they are probably blocking that port to prevent people from using streaming radio and taking up bandwidth, which means your IT department probably does have some policies about music on computers. If you can play them, then they may not have any issues with you authorizing, they just haven't set up the proxy service to allow it.
Is your issue playing your games you purchased at work (probably on your breaks and lunch hour, right) or playing purchased music? If it is purchased music you can always burn your purchased music to a CD and then Adding them to your Library in iTunes at work.
I doubt Apple would want to write an entire alternate authorization system for this, and neither does Microsoft, Adobe, Roxio, or anyone else I can think of for their software.

  • How can I authorize my PC computer for Digital Editions after I have accidentally declined authorization?

I have used Digital Editions for about a year without any trouble. Today I was asked to "authorize" my computer. I declined and now am now prevented from copying my books to my e-reader. How can I fix this? This is a real drag.

I have this exact same problem, and I have assignments due that depend on accessing these books.

  • HT1420 Can Not Authorize a new computer on iTunes

    Hi all,
I have de-authorized two of the possible five devices on iTunes.  I am attampting to authorize a Dell Laptop computer, but it keeps telling me that I must deauthorize another device.   I have exited the program and re-opened it, but it made no difference.  Likewise, I've rebooted the system but still no change.  Any ideas??

    Open iTunes...
If you're using iTunes 11 click on the box icon in the top-left corner to see the " Show Menu Bar "
and from the Menu Bar select Store...
From the Store menu, choose Authorize This Computer.
When prompted, enter your Apple ID and password, then click Authorize.

  • Can't authorize my own music once I re-installed v6

Apparently I had originally used an e-mail address that's LONG gone, and I have no clue what the password was. So iTunes won't let me play a song I've owned legally since 2002. I'm really regally ****** off. I certainly wish I hadn't "upgraded" to v7. This is a headache that I do not welcome today. This was working and now it's f'd up. I am not a happy camper at all.

Half my post got cut off. In a nutshell if I can't get the album to play I do want my money back.

  • Can't authorize new computer to play my music or download them onto my ipod

    Hi everyone,
I'm new to the forum. I seem to be having trouble authorizing my new computer to play my songs, and to also download them onto my ipod. It will download some but not all. The problem that I am having is: when I try to play a song, the authorization pops up and asks me to authorize using my old email address, and password. Well since I can't remember my old password and I no longer use my old email address, I can't authorize my new computer to play songs. So someone Please come to my rescue. I have tried everything.
