Can I Automate CC1 for an EXS24 instrument?

I have automated some volume curves for an orchestra piece I am finishing off. My problem is that for some of the string tracks I am using the Garritan Orchestral Strings, which use Modulation (CC1) for both volume and expression, so I would like to copy the volume curves from the other instruments and apply them to the GOS tracks as CC1 curves. Is that possible? Can the EXS instruments automate CC1 data?
I looked at the EXS documentation, and am a bit overwhelmed at the 10 Modulation sets that are provided, but I don't see that any of them are MIDI Modulation (i.e. CC1). Am I missing something?
I tried drawing in the CC1 Curves in HyperEdit with the mouse, which was pretty frustrating. I got some sorta usable curves, but it took a lot of time and the results weren't really stellar.

Yup, you got it.
I'm recommending the 6dB lowpass filter because it's the most gentle in terms of rolling off high end.
• turn the filter on
• turn "fat" off (if it's on)
• turn drive all the way down (unless you want some dirt!)
• set the filter's "key" (key tracking) parameter to 50
• select the 6dB filter (below the key knob)
• bring the filter's cutoff frequency down as you're playing and set it to the "dullest" you'd ever want the sound to get when playing at low CC#1 settings
• set the EXS's 2nd mod matrix slot (as you detailed in your post)
• set the modulation amount to zero for starters
• move the mod wheel fully up
• adjust the modulation amount to the brightest you'd ever want to hear the sound when CC#1 values are at their highest. Caveat: listen carefully as you're performing this step; make sure that you don't select a value that's too high for this modulation, because if you do, the brightness will get too bright too soon

How do you save sample regions in the EXS24 instrument editor?

Hi There, I don't if my memory has failed me or something was changed in Logic pro 9 but I can't get a EXS24 instrument to save the sample region sections I set?? I open EXS24 click on edit, click on load zone, load a sample, click on edit in sample editor, set the region and then the new region doesn't set inside the EXS24 sample editor window? Tried saving the instrument, but it doesn't up date the selection? It just keeps the entire waveform as the sample? What am I doing wrong here? In the past this was really simple, you just moved the region on the sample area you want and the sample begin and end setting automatically update inside the EXS24 instrument editor window and then you just saved the instrument and each piece of the audio file as and how you set it was then on your keyboard ready to be used. Can anyone help me out here?

I know that this will sound extremely lazy but I am curious. Can Mail automatically check for new mail every few minutes? I was just curious; I usually use commandshiftn to check for it. Does anyone know? Or that the keyboard shortcut really the one way to do it?

here's what I'm trying to do:
I'm trying to combine a solo violin instrument and a solo cello instrument into one EXS24 instrument that has the violin in the higher octaves and the cello in the lower octaves, not overlapping (to use with my EWI).
These are VSL (Vienna Symphonic) instruments, a different sample every half step, 3 velocity layers (different group for each velocity layer). So each instrument has around 150 audio samples.
Here's what i tried so far:
I opened the violin instrument, I added a new group and named it "solo cello pp". I drag dropped all the cello pp samples into the new group. I chose "auto map" in the dialog box.
OK, when I look in the new group it got all the zone key notes right (zone key note matches the audio sample name)
But... every zone has a key range of "Lo C-2, hi G8" so when I play the patch I'm hearing all the samples playing at once (because every zone has the full key range)
OK ... I can just go type in the correct key range for each zone (like for the A#3 sample: "Lo A#3, hi A#3" etc.) but with 150 samples per inst., that's typing in a field 300 times! Kind of insane! and I plan to build several instruments like this (trombone/trumpet, bassoon/oboe etc.)
Is there a smarter way to do this?
I suppose I could probably just keep the violin & cello instruments separate, constrict their ranges so they don't overlap, have them on separate tracks, record enable both tracks, and play it that way. But it would just be more idiot proof to have it all in one EXS24 instrument.
Any help would be appreciated.

EXS is not the easiest to work with.........
but , do this:
bring two EXS's up on two different channels.
load the vlns in one, the cello in the other.
open the cello edit pane. switch to "group" and select all groups.
open the edit menu and click on "copy".
next, open the vln editor, then click on edit and select "paste".
this should copy the cello in the vln pane.
if they overlap, you'll have to move them an octave and probably limit the range.
save as....... a new patch.

Can I use a MIDI keyboard as an input device for a software instrument?

I have a Casio CTK-2100 that I am currently playing around with in Logic Pro 9. It can record and playback the different instruments fine using MIDI tracks. But I was wondering if it is possible to use the keyboard as an input device for a software instrument instead of the "Step Input Keyboard".
Is it? If so, how do I set it up?

Yes, the terminology can be a bear, many, many years ago when I started using Logic the manuals were written completely by the programmers, while they were quite humorous in places the were also really hard to understand so I learned/realized.. you can't really do anything so wrong it's going to destroy your computer so why not go ahead and experiment. I learned the basics of Logic without a manual, months later when I went back to find some some details I could figure out the manual made a lot more sense.
Logic has been somewhat Appleized but it's not really an Apple program, it was purchased almost as developed as it is now... a lot of the additions a fluff to make it easier to understand for new users while at the same time there are some real improvements.
This is personal opinion: With all of the forums/online tutorials...etc...etc. It seems users are learning (but not understanding) the same things, plus everyone wants to use it right away so nobody takes a deep breath and investigates on their own. Logic is a deep, deep program, while learning don't be afraid to go off on a tangent and explore the program without any other input, it can actually be inspirational. One other thing good about the manual or "Online Help", in looking up a function you will invariably come across a related concept that will provide further insight.
And..... have fun.

Background:
In options I have "check for updates, but let me choose whether to install them" ticked. This works fine, in that I periodically receive a notice of an available update, and it will ask me whether I want to I want to install it.
But there are certain times -- for reasons I won't go into here (unless requested as part of seeking a solution) -- where I want to manually check for new versions, but RETAIN the ability to decide whether or not to install it. But if I click Help/About Firefox/Check for Updates, and it finds an update, it will immediately proceed to install it without asking for permission. While that seems quite inconsistent with my update preferences in Options, it is apparently normal behavior as described in https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/update-firefox-latest-version#w_how-do-i-manually-check-for-updates.
So is there any way I can manually check for new-update availability but then refuse the update if I so choose? Once an unwanted install begins, I'm concerned that if I click cancel I could end up with a partial installation or some "messed up," duplicated or corrupted FF files (e.g., multiple versions appended with (1), (2) etc, similar to what sometimes confusingly happens when I do an XP System Restore).

I think what needs to be made very clear here is that when a user clicks on "check for updates" the software should bloody well CHECK for updates and most certainly SHOULD NOT proceed to download and apply any updates. this is misleading and intrusive.
I just wanted to check if there was an updated version but I DID NOT want to actually update at that moment. the software downloaded data, costing me money and tried to apply the update which could have potentially messed up my settings if I had not checked everything was ok first.
I actually discovered how to prevent the update by searching through windows and manually deleting the files but why should anyone have to go to such lengths?
the software should simply do as it is asked, not do things that have most certainly not been asked.

Please create ASL, Sourcing Rule and Assign the sourcing rule in Assignment Set.

Hi all,
just a quick question: I just bought an iPhone 5 for work, i'm very happy with my choice and really like iOs but there's something that bugs me, I searched the web and found nothing.
So I setup my exchange e-mail account wich works perfectly fine, but it seems that everytime I accept or decline an invitation from my phone the phone itself automatically sends the answer to whoever has invited me wich isn't actually so bad, but i would prefer to choose that for myself. Can I go in the settings and change something there to avoid this issue?

It's the new Teac HD-radio ipod charger that you can buy at Costco for $100.
I also have the same problem when I plug in my Ipod on my Alpine Stereo...the same music always start up on the plug-in. So I'm guessing this happens on many divices. Any way to keep the music from starting up on start-up.
