When I got my iPhone 3g I was on my parents' old PC. Since getting my iPhone 4s I have my itunes on there. I have downloaded all my purchases and apps - but rather than sit putting CD after CD into itunes - i was wondering if there was a way of backing up my itunes music library? OR a way of deauthorising my iphone 3g so i can use it on my laptop? As i have used 4 out of the 5 devices for my itunes account

Devices do not count on your authorization. Authorization ONLY applies to computers, NOT iphones/ipod/ipadsATV.
Copy everything from the old computer to your new one. Type "move itunes library" into the google search bar for instructions on how to move the itunes library.

Yes - I connected my phone to my computer / Itunes and went into the apps section, but from there I have no idea how to manage the push notifications. I even tryied going into itunes that is installed on my phone. I still cannot find anyplace to manage these popups. I have also gone into settings - notifiations - and tried turning all notifications for these apps all off but that didnt work either. The ipod is not a backup device. The music sync is one way - computer to ipod. The only exception is itunes purchases: File>Transfer Purchases
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer, particularly before any restore, update, etc.
Use your backup copy to put everything back.

All sorted! dont suppose you know how to fix another problem I have??? for weeks now, since updating to ios5 I think, for some reason every time I have tried to log onto app store it says CANNOT CONNECT TO ITUNES STORE. It's nothing to do with my computer, and I've been to the Geniius bar but they couldnt help and nothing I seem to do lets me update my Apps and even worse, I cant even buy any more. Any suggestions?

Contacts are not a part of back up.
Contacts are sync with a compatible programme on your computer depending on your operating system (Windows or Mac). For example, Microsoft Outlook (for both Windows and Mac), Windows Contacts (for Windows) and Addressbook (for Mac).
Or contacts are also backed up in iCloud (depending if you chose to do so).
So, sync back the contacts from any of these programmes. If you have not made a backup of your contacts in any of these progammes, then they are gone.

If your back up continually fails, you might try turning off back up on your mobile device (settings > iCloud > storage & backup) and then deleting the backup file from iCloud by swiping the backup file on the mobile device (settings > iCloud > storage & backup > manage…) and then turning back up on again.
Being able to back up to the cloud can be very useful, especially if you don't have access to a computer or have infrequent access to one, however unless you specifically need to use iCloud for back up, you will find backing up to iTunes significantly more convenient and possibly more reliable.

There is a possibility that you've bought a stolen iphone which has an iClould lock on it. The only way to remove an iCloud lock is to contact the previous owner of your phone and inform him of your problem. But you dont know who the previous owner is hence you cant unlock your phone. Do a fresh restore with itunes by connecting your iphone to your pc, opening up itunes and clicking restore. I'm not sure if that'll help, but it's worth a try. Hope I helped. Cheers

I have installed upgraded itunes, upgraded my Iphone operation system to 5.1, and installed Icloud. This is where the problems all began.
Icloud and I have everything (contacts, calendar events, photos) so messed up, it would take a Apple Surgeon to fix it all. Is there a way to start over and go back to syncing my ipad, and iphone with itunes....it was sooooo easy and all units were the same.

Pictures are not stored in iTunes.
Any pictures taken with the device, like with any other digital camera, are designd to be copied off the device to the computer on a regular basis. Via iTunes, pictures that the user chooses to have on the device can be synced back.
As Ralph stated, updating iTunes will not affect the media in the library. That being said, it has always been very basic to maintain a backup of important files. If you do not currently have a backup of your important files, I would strongly encourage you to make one.
