Can I back up files when my desktop will not load? Are they gone forever?
My desktop will not load. I have used the Tiger restore disk that came with my Macbook Pro and used Disk Utility to verify disk permission, repair disk permissions, and verify disk and repair disk. I rebooted and it will still not load my desktop. I tried this twice.
Is there anything else that I can do to copy some files off the mac, or should I just go ahead and reformat?

It's not very clear what you mean by this: can you log in? Do you get the spinning rainbow wheel, or nothing? or does it go back to the login window?
Is there anything else that I can do to copy some files off the mac, or should I just go ahead and reformat?
If you have another Mac, as your profile seems to indicate, you could look at his: How to use FireWire target disk mode. That will allow you to rescue your files.

I recently moved all my photos from iphoto to Aperture. I had several iphoto books and cards in my project file. When everything was moved to Aperture I can't find any of the books or card projects. Are they gone or can they be restored?

2 - the question was "are you trying to use them in iPhoto? " - it sounds like you are - to do so you will have to export them from Aperature and import into iPhoto
3 - for information on how to use them in Aperature then you need to ask about how to use Aperature in the Aperature forum as it does not involve iPhoto

I deleted Pages from icloud on my iphone. the next time i was on my ipad it flashed and all of the files disappeared. did i deleted them from icould without realizing it? are they gone forever or is there a way to restore them?

If you mean you deleted the files from Pages on your phone whilst using iCloud, then yes they will disappear from Pages on your iPad too.
If you simply deleted the app from your phone, if you were using iCloud then they should not have disappeared from your iPad.

I need to find an email I sent in April. There are emails from December 2012, but none from April of 2012. Where can I find them or are they gone forever?

I had to completely reset my phone back to "new" at the Apple Store and the Genius told me that my PhotoStreams would download automatically back to my iPhone after the reset. They have not. Are they lost forever?
Have you logged into iCloud on the phone? If not they won't be there, also just to let you know photo stream doesn't keep your photos forever anyway. It will keep up to 1000 photo's after that it will delete the oldest photo there, it will also delete any photo that is 30 days old.

iOS devices cannnot be tracked or located with just the serial number. Unless you shared your Apple ID and password with anyone, then your account cannot be accessed at the iTunes Store.

I have a problem getting "File Server Resource Manager" to start properly because WMI objects are not loading??? I don't understand this at all because I am able to access them with other Apps, etc. I have been over my Services list as well but
have not yet discovered which Service turns on/off "File Server Resource Manager". I have looked in Windows\System32\ and I can not find SrmSvc. I found other Srm's there though. I also found the FSRM Snapin which generates the Figure below but I
can not find it in the WMI Browser. I believe the Firewall is OKAY since I have been over that thoroughly. I do have the Server Tools Installed for Windows 8.0 or Windows 8.1 Clients as well as the Windows Updates applied, which is where I got "File Server
Resource Manager" in the first place. I have had WMI and Powershell 3.0 Package, installed since Windows 7 but I run a repair on them anyway.
I have read through "File Server Resource Manager could not load WMI objects on Windows Server 2012
Article ID: 2831687" but since I don't seem to have SrmSvc the solution doesn't help me. I haven't been able to find a similar one for the Windows Client.
If there is anything you could share on this problem I would be much obliged.

Back up files from Project Manager will not link.

Premiere Pro 5.5
Lacie 6TB Drive
E-Sata connection

- Ok I used the Project Manager to "Collect Files and Copy to New Location"
- Once 2TB of edited footage was copied to the new hard drive to use for editing.
- When I open up the backed up project on the new drive Premiere will not batch link the footage. I am having to link 2TB of footage ONE BY ONE.
Does the "Copy files to new location" just totally screw any ability for Premiere to find the files?
If so it is pretty much useless.
How do I fix this?

If the Path (absolute) is changed in any way, the links to those files are broken in the PRPROJ file. PrPro will ask, "Where is file____ ?" At that point, one would just navigate to the new location (Path), and choose the first file asked for, in that folder. PrPro will then relink to all used files in that folder, automatically. If one has the files in various sub-folders, the process will need to be repeated for each folder. PrPro also offers a Finder, to help with the navigation, if necessary. Once all Assets have been re-linked, I would do a Save_As, and increment the Project's name.

Firefox "hangs" when opened and will not load first page
I am running Firefox on Mac OS X and when I open it it hangs and does not load the first page. The whole application does not respond so I can't open it in safe mode or anything. I have to keep force quitting it.
So no help from any one about this?

Desktop will not load, stuck on blue screen -- please help!
As I can see, many other Mac users have encountered the same problem that I now have: the dreaded ‘blue screen of death’. About a week ago, any internet browser that I tried to open (Safari, Firefox) would freeze after loading its home page, and tell me that the application was not responding. After force quitting and restarting each program a couple of times, with no positive response, I decided to restart my computer to see if that would do the trick. Upon booting up, it then started the same sequence that it is still doing now: first a grey screen will briefly show, then a white screen with the apple logo and a turning dial beneath it, followed by a blue screen which will show a window that says “Starting Mac OS X” with a progress bar beneath it, which will fill to various points (sometimes only 1/8 of the way, while other times it fills completely), but it always leads me to the same screen – solid blue with a black arrow that will occasionally be replaced with a turning dial, only to go back to the arrow again. I am using a PowerBook G4 with the Tiger version of OS X. No applications were running whenever I first decided to restart my computer, and to my knowledge, all software and security patches were up to date and fully installed.
I’ve researched and tried every possible option that I’ve come across, listed below with the results they yielded (if any):
Holding the Command/Option/P/R keys upon startup (screen stays blank, and the computer continues to ‘chime’ until I release the keys. I have allowed it to chime a couple of times before I stop holding the keys, but it always leads me back to the same blue screen)
Holding the Shift key upon startup (leads me to a screen that has an icon of my hard drive and two arrows. Clicking the left arrow does nothing, the hard drive icon does not respond to being clicked, and the right arrow starts the loading process which again ends with the blue screen)
With the first OS X Installation disc that came with my computer inserted into the disc drive, holding the C key (nothing happens; sequence as normal)
With the first OS X Installation disc that came with my computer inserted into the disc drive, holding the Option key (same results as holding shift key with no disc)
With the first OS X Installation disc that came with my computer inserted into the disc drive, holding Option/Command/Shift/Delete (a grey screen appears with the icon of a folder, a question mark briefly flashes before being replaced by the two-toned blue face Mac logo. After continuing to hold the keys with this folder and face on the screen, I get no response, so release the keys and the computer continues to enter the white screen-blue screen sequence)
Holding the Command/Option/O/F keys upon startup (a white screen appears, and following advice I have seen on other forums a type ‘reset-nvram’, then return, then ‘reset-all’, then return. The computer reboots and the sequence continues as usual. I have also tried holding the Command/Option/P/R to reset the PRAM immediately after leaving the white Open Firmware screen, allow the chime to sound a couple of times as before, but still I get no results)
While on the blue screen, pressing the Command/Shift/Q keys (alas, I am the only user on the computer, so I cannot try to remedy my problem by signing into another account. From the screen the appears, I can either shut down, restart, or put my computer to sleep, or enter my password which leads me back to the same blue screen again)
I apologize in advance if I’ve included a lot of extraneous information, but I just wanted to cover the options I’ve already explored so as not to waste your time if you had any of these in mind. I’m going to post this on a few different forums just to make sure I have all my bases covered, but anything you have to offer in the way of suggestions would be greatly appreciated. If you could post your advice in layman’s terms that would be even more helpful; I’ll probably need exact, step-by-step instructions if required to start my computer in ‘safe mode’ or anything else an average user would not be familiar with. I know this is a lot to ask, so I thank you in advance for taking the time to read through this and offer any solutions that you may have.Hi amnicolekidman, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Although you don't specify your Mac, it sounds like you have real HW problems, likely the HD.
Tough without a Tiger Disk, but try fsck...
To use fsck, you must run it from the command line. Unlike using your mouse to open an application to do something, you'll need to type a text command at the prompt (#) to tell fsck what to do. The Terminal application (/Applications/Utilities) and single-user mode are two examples of command-line interfaces in which you can type such commands. To use fsck:
1. Start up your computer in single-user mode to reach the command line. Hold CMD+s keys down at bootup. Note: If necessary, perform a forced restart as described in the Emergency Troubleshooting Handbook that came with your computer. On desktop computers, you can do this by pressing the reset/interrupt button (if there is one) or holding down the power button for several seconds. On portable computers, simultaneously press the Command-Control-power keys. If your portable computer doesn't restart with this method, you may need to reset the Power Manager.
2. At the command-line prompt, type /sbin/fsck -fy
3. Press Return. fsck will go through five "phases" and then return information about your disk's use and fragmentation. Once it finishes, it'll display this message if no issue is found: ** The volume (nameofvolume) appears to be OK If fsck found issues and has altered, repaired, or fixed anything, it will display this message: *** FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED *** Important: If this message appears, repeat the fsck command you typed in step 2 until fsck tells you that your volume appears to be OK (first-pass repairs may uncover additional issues, so this is a normal thing to do).
4. When fsck reports that your volume is OK, type reboot at the prompt and then press Return.

Then Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), off the HD & use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, reboot once more. -
How can I find out why update reader11.07 will not load on mavericks?
Is there an Adobe tech out there who can tell me why? or another user having the same issue?

I clicked the link (legitimate) and the update was perfect.
When I first went to adobe to update , it failed. Gave me some error thing.[ I never update from a popup.]
Only from the real website. I tried to get help from chat and they referred me to the forum where I guess you found my question.

Computer shutdown unsaved recorded files. Are they gone forever?
My computrer shutdown before I had a chance to save 12 tracks of recorded files, all live recording. Have I lost them forever? These were very important files. I couldnt find them in my Logic folder.
Do you know where your default recording location is?
Had you stopped Logic at the point the computer crashed, or was it still recording.
The files were written to the hard drive, the problem is if they are usable or not.
Don't empty the trash. -

I can't back up my iPhone4. When was I syncing, My computer hang. I restart computer. Itune told me there is an error, delete the back up file and try again. But there are no back up file to delete in preference-device. Please help!

My mac desktop will not provide sound from internal speakers. When I go to audio devices window it only shows airplay. How can I get internal speakers back.
There are many possible causes for this issue. Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Some may not apply to your model. Back up all data before making any changes.
1. Start with the steps recommended in this support article. Don't skip any of the steps. It's the starting point for further efforts to solve the problem.
2. Run Software Update and make sure you have a fully up-to-date installation of OS X.
3. If you've installed an application called "Memory Clean" or any other third-party software that is supposed to "clean" or "purge" memory automatically, remove it according to the developer's instructions and restart. You should do that even if the software is not causing the problem, because it's useless.
4. Other third-party software that has been reported to interfere with sound output includes "Boom" and "Samsung Kies." If applicable, uninstall according to the developer's instructions (not by dragging something to the Trash.)
5. If an AirPlay device is selected for sound output from iTunes (or from other applications via third-party software such as "Airfoil"), deselect it.
6. Launch the application "Audio MIDI Setup" by entering the first few letters of its name in a Spotlight search and selecting it in the results (it should be at the top.) Select Built-in Output from the list on the left. If the Mute boxes are checked, uncheck them.
7. If a red light is visible in the audio-out port when sound should be playing, the internal switch is stuck in the position for digital output. You may be able to free it by inserting and removing a mini-stereo jack of the proper size. Inserting any kind of tool in the port may cause damage that won't be covered by your warranty.
If there's no red light, the switch may still be stuck in the headphone position. Try to free it the same way.
8. Disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard and mouse, if applicable. If more than one display is connected, disconnect all extra ones. Restart and test.
9. If you have a MacBook Air, turn off Bluetooth and restart.
10. Start up in safe mode. Don't log in; just restart as usual when the login screen appears. When you do, make sure the words "Safe Boot" do not appear in the login screen. If they do, the system is still in safe mode and sound won't work.
11. Reset the NVRAM.
12. Reset the SMC.
13. Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
/Library/Preferences/Audio
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Recreate your settings in the Sound preference pane.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
14. Reinstall OS X after backing up all data.
15. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store.
