Can I backup FRA to tape (Networker) without NMO?

Can I just use MML that Networker provides and not use their Networker Module for Oracle? So I will backup up my databases to FRA and then Networker will back up FRA via SBT_TAPE? If so, how do I unlink NMO and just leave MML? Or is the only way to use NMO? Thank you!

Because Oracle does not recommend to backup FRA outside of RMAN.That's right, but if you want to backup the FRA to tape using RMAN you need NMO. Otherwise you have 2 independent backups, one uses RMAN to backup to the FRA and the other uses native Networker MML to backup the FRA to tape. Although not recommended some sites do this, because they don't want to pay for NMO. But again, you have a manual overhead to handle such a configuration.

Can time capsule boost the wireless network without beeing connected with cabel, hence wirelessly?

Yes, providing that the wireless network has been created by another Apple "n" router.
The "extend a wireless network" feature on the Time Capsule is not compatible with devices from other manufacturers.

  • Can wireless backup be on different network to internet connection?

Can you backup to a wireless backup (say a Time Capsule) but connect to a different wireless access point for the internet?

There is no filtering from the wireless into the wired LAN. Any wireless user can access any computer on the wired LAN. If you use file or printer sharing in your LAN the computer is accessible. Of course, if you have set a password on the shares it is not immediately possible to access the files. Network printers (a printer with an ethernet card) should be fully accessible. The major risk would be that the computers are open for virus/malware. If your guest has a bad virus on his computer exploiting some new Windows vulnerability, it is likely to spread freely in your network. Your firewalls on the computers are usually set up to trust the LAN IP network. Anti-virus needs some time to be up-to-date with the latest threats. Some threats are never covered by anti-virus.
Thus, bottom line: unless you really trust your guest not to do any harm and you think that they are reasonable about their computer's security I would not recommend to give them access to your LAN. Even if it is a Mac, often Mac users use Windows virtual machines to run some Windows-only application. Plus, even a Mac can be turned into a remote controlled bot which will only pose the platform for additional attacks against Windows computer. This may be unlikely but it happens.
If you want to be secure, either get a different router which allows VLAN separate of multiple SSIDs into different fully separated VLANs or get a second wireless router which you connect to your internet modem. From there you connect to your WRT with your private LAN. The WRT will protect the LAN from access from the outside just like it protects your LAN at the moment from access from the internet. Your guest can connect to the wireless router which is connected directly to the internet.

  • Can I set up a local network without being connected to internet?

Can I set up a local network with Airport without being connected to internet?

Yes. Your AirPort Express router, by default, will create an unsecured wireless network and does not need to be connected to the Internet to do so. Local clients can then connect to this wireless network and be able to "see" each other.

  • Can I use Apple TV on network without internet connection?

I'm helping someone who has an Apple TV (version1) and their router and internet connection is down.  We need to use the AppleTV today to stream a video from her mac to the TV connected to the Apple TV for a presentation.  Can we just hook up the Mac and the AppleTV to a switch via Ethernet (or connnect wirelessly to an AirPort Base station) and stream the video without being connected to the internet?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can't just use a switch, but you can use a router or wifi access point without access to the internet, but you will need a DHCP server to give each device on the network an IP address.
You may also be able to connect the Mac and Apple TV directly with an ethernet cable, I've tested this with the Apple TV 1, but not with the Apple TV 2.

    hey jugem,
backing up files on a network would require you to have either a different computer that is connected to your current computer via a wired connection or wireless connection.
It might be possible for you to backup to MSN Skydrive if you're able to map it to your system as a Network Drive.
For all of this, I do recommend getting in contact with Microsoft as these features are by them

  • How can I report a loss of network without calling?

There has been little/no mobile signal (and mobile internet) in Taunton TA1-TA3 for the last couple of days. I am unable to call due to this lack of signal!

The only way to make a report about network problems within your area is by calling EE customer services.
However; if you would like to know if there is any problems, you can speak to EE on Twitter who can check the network within your area.

  • Can't backup to WD 2TB network drive.

When trying to backup to the external drive I get the following error message:
"Time Machine Error: The problem may be temporary. Try again later to back up. If the problem persists, use Disk Utility to repair your backup disk." My problem is that I think the the backup disk is fine and dont want to mess with it. I currenty am backing up other Apple (10.6) and XP systems without any problems. I was successful backing up to this drive once before. Any ideas?

    Hello
is it a new drive ? never use with a mac ?
in that case is probably "window formated" you need use Disk Utility to erase drive with mac format
BE VERRY CAREFULL THAT LOST ALL DATA PRESENT IN HARD DRIVE , do a back up first if is possible

  • Restoring Backup piece on tape from FRA without RCAT using ASM

    DB: 10.2.0.3
    ASM: 10.2.0.3
Nightly, I have a job that backups the FRA of a 10203 DB to tape using RMAN. The FRA is on 10203 ASM. The tape is loaded, and the channel is allocated. What i'm trying to do is re-catalog the backup piece to the non default location (Disk). IE - I want to get the backup off of tape (I can only use RMAN to do this) and back onto disk and use it for Restore and Recovery...I thought it would be something as simple as specifying a non default location to restore it to but that's not working. I wonder if I have to change the db_recovery_file_dest first and then try it....any one try this before? thanks.

You should be able to restore from tape to ASM then perform the following:
    RMAN> backup backupset <backupset_key> format '<disk_directory_path/format>';

  • How can I use Airport Express to create a standalone Wi-Fi network without Internet Access so I can browse web pages on the local network? I will be using MAMP as my server (Apache)

I would like to create my own Wi-Fi standalone network at an upcoming tradeshow where there will be NO internet access.
Currently, I run and develop sites on my iMac use MAMP to manage my sites locally. Using MAMP, I run my sites as though they are on the internet although everything is local.
I purchased an Airport Express hoping I could create a standalone network so that the iMac would broadcast its website to whatever device connects to it such as my iPhone, iPad and MacBookPro.
However, after setting up the network successfully (I have a green light on the Airport Express, and there is NO internet going through it), I  am  not able to go any further by logging into the iMac's websites from the other machines. Form my MacBookPro Finder, I can look at files and folders using afp://10.0.1.2, from the Find/Go/Connect to Server utility, but I can't browse the website that is running on the iMac via the Safari browser.
Can anyone help me configure my MacBookPro (or iPad, or iPhone) to run the website on the iMac when they are all on the same network?
    Thanks so much!!

    1) connecting the TC using a ethernet cable from one of the two modem's LAN ports to the TC's WAN port
    2) create a new Wi-Fi network using the TC ?
Does someone already create a new Wi-Fi network using its TC connected by Ethernet on a modem/router device ? How do you set up the DHCP (and NAT) ? Which range did you use ?
This is easy enough to do..
Plug the TC directly into a computer.. without other connections to do the setup.
Using the newly installed 5.6 utility.
    Bridge the TC.
    Create a wireless network.
This is an older screen shot and I would set security to WPA2 Personal only not WPA/WPA2 Personal as shown above.
I do recommend you use wireless names that are short, no spaces, pure alphanumeric.
    Update the TC..
Now plug it into the modem router.. it will be a part of the network without doing NAT and DHCP itself.. which you do not want.. that leads to double NAT issues.. but it is a WAP that provides access to devices on both 2.4ghz and 5ghz bands directly to the main router.

  • How do I set up time capsule to just backup multiple macs on a wireless network without using the TC in the bridge mode?

I have an AT&T modem that serves as our home wireless network.  I wanted to backup up our computer data so I got a time capsule to back up our three household MACs.  After purchase, I found how that I needed to put the exising modem in "bridge mode" so the Time capsule would establish the network. Four frustrating hours later talking to 3 different people at Yahoo, I got the **** thing established.  It worked fine for 4 months - then a power failure forced me to repeat the process again.  I had to reestablish everything and it took another 4 hours.  After 6 months, another power failure forced me to go through the entire process again.  Now, of course, Yahoo is charging a fee to help you establish the TC as the network if you have one of their modems - and to make things interesting, they really don't understand MACs.  After 5 hours, in frustration, I gave up and asked the Yahoo folks to just put their modem back in as the network hub and I unplugged the Time Capsule.  Now after 3 months of looking at an expensive Time Capsule and searching the internet for help, I figured I try the Apple help network,
I just want to backup the data on my MACS.  I have a network in the house that works just fine.  How do I configure the TC to work as a backup on a wireless network?  It seems like it should be simple, but it isn't.  Can anybody help?

I have no idea about the modem and bridge mode (I don't do networking -- hopefully Bob Timmons, Tesserax, or one of the other networking gurus will drop in and address that).
But . . . you should be able to back up to the TC as long as it's on your network and recognized by your Macs.  I think being in bridge mode means it will be rather slow, but it should work.  Until/unless we hear otherwise, you might want to see #Q1 in Using Time Machine with a Time Capsule.

  • Can't connect to wireless networks without disabling firewall.

I just had the built-in battery replaced on my MBP by the genius bar. When I started the machine up I was bombarded with firewall messages asking if applications should be given access to incoming network connections. I didn't recognize a few of them and clicked "deny". Now my machine will no longer connect to a wireless network without first disabling the firewall. Then I can re-enable the firewall and it seems to work okay.
I went through the Security panel and edited the list of applications allowed to have incoming connections and enabled all the ones that were disabled hoping that would fix it. The only one that is disabled now is OSXVNC, which I don't use and don't want to be enabled.
I'm not sure why replacing the battery caused all the windows to pop up, but now I don't know how to fix this issue. Anyone have any advice? Is there a way to restore my old firewall settings?

Go to the /Macintosh HD/Library/Preferences/ folder and remove the file called "com.apple.alf.plist", then restart your system.
This file is the preferences file for the application firewall. Removing it will clear all the firewall rules and set up the firewall from scratch. Sometimes after hardware configuration changes, or even hard crashes the firewall may not work properly and removing this file to set it up from scratch should do the trick. It will still ask you to allow some services and applications after doing this, but should not ask to for every system service and feature that uses the network.
