Can I backup my Ipad directly to Time Capsule

Is there a way to backup an Ipad without connecting directly to a Mac or PC?

can I backup my iPad directly to Time Capsule?
In a word, no.
The iPad backs up to iTunes on your Mac or PC. Then, the Mac backs up in turn using Time Machine to the Time Capsule.
Your other option is to backup the iPad using iCloud.

  • Is there a way to add/delete music to my iPhone/iPad directly through Time Capsule?

I understand it is a long shot, but I also feel like Apple technology isn't far off from having this function. Let me explain:
My MacBook serves me one function: acting as an interface for adding/deleting/editing my music for my devices (iPhone & iPad). It is the only reason why I still have my MacBook, and quite frankly, I'm sick of using it.
Have we reached a point where I can finally eliminate the need of having this MacBook?
All of my 500+ GBs of music has already been organized in iTunes (my way). The files are stored in my current external hard drive. My library is visible from iTunes but you can't play songs unless my hard drive is connected. What I currently do in order to swap music, is light up the hard drive and my MacBook, plug in my device and add/delete through iTunes. It is such a grueling process that always takes way more time than I'd like it to.
My main question: Can you access the contents of your Time Capsule from your iPhone/iPad?

I understand this might go beyond your understanding but a little input would be great. This isn't really a question, more like an idea:
Ideally, I would have all 500 GBs of my music on my device at all times. Realistically, this is impossible until iPhone15 is out... so how about in the meantime, there is an app you can download that works in conjunction with hardware you need to buy seperately. The hardware acts as an external hard drive that stores all your music, and the app acts as the interface. All you need to do is connect the devices, and drag and drop with your finger. It seems so incredibly simple. I don't understand why this technology doesn't exist.
I assume you know more about limitations and things like that. I just wanted to get a discussion going.

  • Can I backup my laptop on the time capsule that is currently backing up my iMac data?

Can I backup my Apple laptop on my time capsule which is currently backing up my iMac?

Yes, assuming that there is ample room on the Time Capsule disk for all of the files on your laptop.

  • How can I backup my mac on a Time Capsule (connected with ethernet), without any user logged on the mac?

Time Machine by default does not run when no user is logged in, there's some way to let backups run without any user logged on the mac?
I need to backup 3 iMac connected through ethernet network to a Time Capsule.
    Some hint?

If you use eithernet for your main connection then just plug the TC bridged into the network.
If you use wireless for your internet connection then you can use the TC isolated from the network by ethernet.. but this is really only convenient on a desktop Mac.
The instructions I put in this thread with screenshots.. see near the bottom.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4817218?tstart=30
It is a bit tricky so if you have questions ask back here.
Just to say a USB for firewire external drive is faster and more reliable than a TC.. cheaper to buy as well.. although since you already have the TC that is not a concern.. but you can ebay the TC and buy a bigger and better external drive with the proceeds.

  • Can't backup after erasing Data on Time Capsule

    Good Day!
Just recently purchased and installed my Time Capsule.
I then took some time to figure out how to configure everything and had to change some password settings.
I decided to erase Data from the Disk to see how it functionned. I imagined that having just a few weeks of backups, it would not be a long process.
I selected the 35 passes and stopped it after a few days as it seemed to go on for ever.
I selected the first quick erase option. Once completed, I also chose the second option of erasing the free spaces.
It should have then cleaned the hard drive of the Time Capsule to my understanding.
Today I tried using TimeMachine to restart the backup process.
An error message popped up stating that it could not create a sparsebundle on the Time Capsule.
What should I do to repair this?
    Should I use Disk Utilities?
    Regards,
    Jean-Paul

I found my answer. I selected the wrong disk from the selection.
It is saving at this precise moment.
    Je suis bon! I'm good!

  • Can I back up my iPad 3 to time capsule?

Dani backup my iPad 3 to time capsule? Also, can I move my photos from shutterfly to time capsule?  Thank you.

The iPad (and iPhone) backup to iTunes on your Mac. Then when the Mac backs up to the Time Capsule, the backups are preserved that way.
Or, you can backup the iPad to iCloud.
See this Apple support document for details:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766
Cannot answer on your photo question. Suggest that you ask Shutterfly support if it is possible to copy files to a shared network drive.

  • I am trying to backup my iPad and every time I do it says my computer is not authorized to backup purchased items and I need to authorize the computer. The computer is authorized.  how do i fix this?

I am trying to backup my iPad and every time I do it says I need to authorize my computer...it is authorized...

I am having a similiar problem.  I did not ever have the problem with Lion and my 4gen iPad.
I allowed the Mavericks update just about the same time that AppleCare put a new Motherboard in this computer, so I don't know if either of those has anything to do with this or not? (4 year old MBP 17 dual i7)
But now when I reboot my MBP, it tells me that this computer is not authorized to play, sync, etc.. with my iPod (or iPhone) and asks me for my password.  With I enter it, I get a message that says "This computer is already authorized".  I have 4 Apple ID's and it asks me to enter that information for every single one and then tells me that the computer is already authorized.
How can I enter this ONCE and make it stick?
    Thanks,
    Kirk

  • I want to update my ipad into ios5 how can i backup my ipad apps and song?

please help me how can i backup my ipad apps and songs thank you...

To update to iOS 5.0.1 you need iTunes 10.5 on your computer. When you've got iTunes 10.5 installed then connect your iPad to it and copy any purchases off the iPad to your computer's iTunes via File > Transfer Purchases - that will copy off your apps and iTunes bought music, films (not rentals if they were bought directly on the iPad), tv show, ibooks, but it won't copy off music bought from other stores or music copied from your own CDs (if they are no longer on your computer then you will need to find a third-party program that can copy them off the iPad).
You should also backup the device (right-click the iPad 'device' and select 'back up'), and copy off any important documents, files, notes etc (e.g. by email, the file sharing section at the bottom of the Apps tab in iTunes, wifi, whatever the apps that you use support) - the update process should backup and restore the content but it's best to be safe.
If iTunes doesn't prompt you to update to iOS 5.0.1 on your iPad, then with your iPad connected to and selected on the left-hand side of it, then on the Summary tab on the right-hand side click the Check For Updates button.

  • How can I backup my iPad to another iPad backup on my same account.  They're both listed on my list of backups, but it won't let me choose to backup to the one I want on my other iPad which I no longer have.  But I specifically want the pictures

How can I backup my iPad to another iPad backup I have on my same iCloud account.  The old one is totally gone.  Both backups are listed on my iCloud account. So is there any way I can backup the one I have now to the other one.  I really just want the pictures that are in the old backup.  I have tried resetting and erasing all settings and data on the one I still have, but when I go to restore by iCloud;  it only gives me the choice of restoring the same iPad.  Then in iCloud>storage>backup, I'm still not able to choose which backup to backup to.  I've even tried deleting the backup to the iPad I still have, then resetting all setting and data on the iPad, hoping that in resetting up the iPad it would give me the option to backup to my old iPad.  But it doesn't.  It still has memory of the backup of my newer iPad.
    I JUST WANT THE PICTURES!!!
    Thank you!!!
iPad (3rd gen) Wi-Fi + Cellular, iOS 6.1.3, iCloud Backup

You now need to get your pictures back! The similar to you, after I updated my iPad Mini, I can't get my some files on device. I tried many ways, fortunately, I got a tool from http://tinyurl.com/Data-Recovery-iPhone to help me recover lost files easily! It supports iPhone, iPad, iPod, etc iOS devices!

  • I have used Airport Time Capsule with my iMac for several years. I recently purchased a MacBook Air and when it tried to backup to Time Capsule it couldn't because Time Capsule is full. How can I now use the 3TB Airport Time Capsule to back up both?

I have used Airport Time Capsule with my iMac for a couple years. I recently purchased a MacBook Air and when it tried to backup to Time Capsule it couldn't because Time Capsule is full. How can I now use the 3TB Airport Time Capsule to back up both the iMac and MacBook Air? I don't mind losing earlier backups. I have excluded some items from backing up, but since the Airport Time Capsule is full, I can't even begin to back up the MacBook Air.

    On your Mac.......
Open Finder > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the Time Capsule icon, then click Edit in the smaller window that appears
Click on the Disks tab at the top of the window
    Click Erase Disk
On the next window that appears, select the Quick Erase option, then click Erase
The operation will only take a few minutes.
Now you are ready to start new backups of both Macs.  Back up one Mac first, then back up the other.  Do not try to back up both Macs as the same time.

  • 180 GB of my 639-GB Macintosh hard drive is used. 320 GB of my 498-GB Tie Capsule is used. Only one backup ("now") exists for the Time Capsule, which can no longer backup because of "insufficient space". How come? What is wrong?"

Thank you William for your most helpful response. I shall deal first with your three comments:
Not being tech savvy, I would not have been able to make that call myself but it sure makes sense.
I have updated my profiles as you suggest.  Excellent tip.
This guidance is good.  Being new to Apple Support Communities, I did not find the field a labeling and guidance to be clear, a point you make.  Now I know, I shall do as you say and will use the small slim box as a header to the full message/question, which will place in the larger box below.
Secondly, I come to your question: Did anything change on your Mac recently, such as replacing the disk or main logic board?
The answer is “yes”.  Two events have happened both of which concerned the Time Capsule:
The telephone company, with which I have access to the Internet and I have my email account, installed a new modum.  After the technician left I had to try and get the Time Capsule and WiFi working again which ended with my having to call Apple for technical assistance.  The Apple technician walked me through a number of procedural steps which effectively re-set up the Time Capsule.
Access to the Internet failed and the telephone company reset the modum.  I had to call Apple again.  This time the technician did not reset the Time Capsule but walked me through a number of steps tha included renaming the “site”  (not the Time Capsule).
Another piece of information that may be relevant is that the MacBook Pro uses the Time Capsule for backup.  Everything appears to be in order.  When I enter the Time Capsule for this laptop I have backups going back for a long time.
Also, I do a weekly backup of the two computers onto another external hard drive using the Time Machine software.  So I have another backup of both computers.

  • What can I change to gain access to my work vpn.  I can access with my MacBook Air and other routers.  Can use my ipad and this time capsule to successfully access the VPN.

What can I change to gain access to my work vpn.  I can access with my MacBook Air and other routers.  Can use my ipad and this time capsule to successfully access the VPN.

You need to give us a lot more info.
I presume the MBA and the TC are the combo that doesn't work, although you don't clearly state that.
If the ipad and TC work.. are you sure the ipad is connected via the TC and not 3G network?
If it is then the TC itself is fine and the issue might be setup on the MBA.. although if the MBA works with other routers.. that rather confuses the matter.
You need to actually tell us how the TC is setup in the network. What kind of broadband modem you have and what kind of vpn you are using.

  • How can I access iTunes media from my iPad to my time capsule

How can I access iTunes media from my iPad to my time capsule with out a computer

Really not suitable.. The TC is a dumb hard disk in a router.. it is not a media server..
You can move your itunes library to the TC.. but if you do that.. one day the TC will die and take your library with it.. as well as giving slow response to every network device.. this is really not suitable.

  • Can you automatically backup  an external hardrive to Time capsule

Already backup to an external drive  from an iMac but also have another external drive that has my archived photos on but would like to backup these automatically possbly with Time Capsule. Is it possible and to save effort can I backup m iMac to it as well.
    Ratbag2

I assume that you are asking about Time Machine backups
If you have an external drive connected to your Mac using either the USB or FireWire connector.....
Open System Preferences on your Mac
    Open Time Machine
    Click the Options button
A list of files and devices that are Excluded from Time Machine backups will be displayed
Click on the name of the hard drive
Click the - (minus) button at the bottom of the list to remove the drive from the Excluded list and it will now be backed up by Time Machine along with your Mac
If the hard drive is greyed out in the Exclusions list, it is not formatted in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and cannot be backed up using Time Machine
