Can I be a part of family sharing and use my own credit card?

Hello SamLupien,
As detailed below, all purchases are billed to the Family Sharing organizer.
With Family Sharing, one adult in the family—the family organizer—agrees to pay for any iTunes, iBooks, and App Store purchases that other family members initiate while they're part of the family group. This also includes ongoing subscription purchases initiated by family members, such as iCloud storage, iTunes Match, and Newsstand subscriptions.

Yes, you should be able to use a local SIM card from a carrier in Ontario. You should not have to do anything prior to doing so.

  • Can members of a family group use their own credit card or payment method other than the Family Organizer's credit card?

In Family Sharing, is the Family Organizer's credit card the only method of payment for all family members? Or can family members also pay with their own credit card?

    Hello Trisa295,
Family sharing payments are all managed by the Organizer, and only the billing information on that account can be used to pay for an iTunes purchase. Take a look at this info from the following article:

If the members of the Family have credits or have iTunes Gift cards redeemed, that balance gets used first so an option you all have is to apply iTunes credit in some way to these member accounts:
After you set up your family, any time a family member initiates a new purchase it will be billed directly to your account unless that family member has gift or store credit. First, their store credit will be used to pay the partial or total bill. The remainder will bill to the family organizer's card.

  • Family sharing verification has an old credit card number to verify. I have updated the credit card info but it is still not appearing in the verification process asking for the security code of the card. How lng to have account info updated to cloud

I am trying to set up a family sharing with a new iMac and other Mac pro computer and other apple products. When I click to manage account and the add a member, I am told to verify the user by entering the security code from the credit card. The card listed is an old one and has since been changed. I updated the info on my apple account, but it is not getting to the iCloud for the family sharing. The number shown is the old card. When I enter a code it says invalid. How long does it take for the info to udate to all systems?

    Hi Mofro1,
Happy Holidays!  The resource below explains how to edit the credit card information for the Apple ID account that you want to use for Family Sharing.  Once you've made the changes, I would suggest you sign out of your iTunes Store on all of your devices, and then restart them.  The changes should take place quickly.  There is a link to the iTunes Store support below if you need more help.
Change or remove your payment information from your iTunes Store account (Apple ID) - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT1918
Change your payment information on a Mac or PC
Click to open your account in iTunes. (You might need to sign in with your Apple ID.)
    Alternatively, you can:
    Open iTunes.
    Click iTunes Store.
Click Sign In and enter your Apple ID.
Click your Apple ID and select Account Info.
From the Account Information page, click Edit to the right of Payment Type.
You can see the payment methods that the iTunes Store accepts in the Payment Type section. If you want to remove the payment method, select None in the Payment Type section. See what to do if None isn't showing or you can't select it.
Change your information and click Done.
After you change your payment information, the iTunes Store places an authorization hold on your credit card.
    Family Sharing
If you’re using Family Sharing, and you're the family organizer, you can’t set your payment information to None. You need to use a credit card or debit card. Only the Family Organizer can edit payment information for a family group. If you're not the organizer, you'll see this message: "The payment method for your Family is managed by [Apple ID]."

If you need help changing your payment information, credit card details, or billing information, contact iTunes Store support. Or you might find the answer to your question below:
If you change your payment method, make sure your account information matches the credit card information on file with your financial institution.
If you use an AOL screen name to sign in to the iTunes Store, editing your information on the Account Information page won't update your AOL account. If you need to update your AOL account information, contact AOL.
If your previous payment wasn't accepted, you might need to change your payment information.

  • Can I buy an unlocked iPhone 3GS (UK) and use my 3 sim card in it?

My friend is on Orange, his contract has ended and he is upgrading to the iPhone 4S. I want to buy his iPhone 3GS and use my pay monthly 3 sim card in it.
He has spoke to Orange, paid £20 and is having the phone officially unlocked, he will recieve an email in 28 days, once done he needs to put my simcard in the phone, connect to his itunes and put the code in which will unlock it.
Can I then have the phone and sync it on my itunes on my computer or is it forever locked to his itunes?
Does this sound right or am I missing something?
    Cheers.

So the last part of setting it up as a new device is done by plugging it into my computer, itunes etc...?
Just thought my mate might be pulling a fast one, ha! Ive never owed anything apple so am new to it all.

  • Why can't I use my own credit card while part of a family share?

This more of a suggestion/rant for Apple. Why in the world would you prevent users from purchasing apps in the apps store? To make adult children go back to "mommy and daddy" to pay for things is just nuts. My app purchases have halted because I don't want the hassle of having to go back to my parents and find out which purchases were mine or their's or who owes who. Huge huge fail guys... please fix ASAP. I'll even go for not being able to download their purchases (I just want the shared calendar feature and family Find my Phone).
Do some research with your users next time about this... great idea for people with teenagers, not great for a multi-generational family who love apple products.

  • Can iTunes credit be used instead of credit card for Family Sharing Organizer?

I'm aware that a member in a Family Sharing group uses their iTunes credit (gift cards) before the Organizer's credit card is charged.
But what happens if the Organizer has iTunes credit? Will the members' purchases get deducted from that credit prior to the credit card?
Haven't found any real info on this yet :/
side question: if all of the members have iCloud Drive monthly fees, will that also get deducted from the Organizer's account? (either by credit card or iTunes credit)

Sad but true, I've tried to pay for iTunes Match with my credit and couldn't because it's a subscription service, regardless the credit amount I have. The system ask me to pay with my credit card too.
How are Family Sharing purchases billed?
When you initiate a new purchase, it will be billed directly to the family organizer's account, unless you have gift or store credit. First, your store credit will be used to pay the partial or total bill. The remainder will bill to the family organizer. iTunes Store credit on your account isn't shared with other family members. So if the family organizer has a $50 credit on their account and another family member initiates a purchase, it won't deduct from the organizer's iTunes Store credit, but will bill the organizer's credit or debit card.

  • Family sharing and child's id

i want to set up Apple id's for my children under family sharing.I only have a debit card which is used for my own I'd. Is it possible to use this for family sharing?

    Hi Cobo127,
To create Apple IDs for your children under Family Sharing, you would need a credit card for verification, at least for the initial setup:
Create an Apple ID for your child
Before you begin, make sure that you're using a credit card as your iTunes Store and App Store payment method. To comply with child online privacy protection laws, you will use the CVV or security code from a valid credit card as part of providing your parental consent. If the card on file is a debit card or another payment method, you’ll be asked to provide a credit card before you can continue. After you create the child's Apple ID, you can change your payment method back to a debit card.

  • With iOS 8's family sharing, will family members be able to share apps that they previously purchased with different credit cards with one another for free (given that they will all use the same credit card once iOS 8 comes out)?

Question 1: In my family of 4, we currently have different Apple ID's and we all use different credit cards to purchase our apps and media. When iOS 8 is released, if we agree to share the same credit card, will we be able to access apps that a family member purchased with their own credit card prior to iOS 8's release? To clarify, under iOS 7, Member 1 has purchased Apps A and B with his credit card. Under iOS 8, if Members 1, 2, 3, 4 decide to use Member 4's credit card, will Members 2, 3, 4 be able to access Apps A and B?
Question 2: If we all decide to use the same credit card now, once iOS 8 is released, will family members have access to the apps/media purchased by the fourth family member?

You can read everything that is known about ios 8 on Apples website.
There is no way for anyone to know any more than that.

    Bank card - no.

  • Got a iphone 4 3 days ago, set it all up and it crashed. Today I got a replacement from the store, but when I try and log in to my apple id so I can start downloading apps, it says that the security code of my credit card is invalid. Why is this happening

I got a new iphone 4 3 days ago. YAY! Got it all set up, downloaded some apps etc, and it kept crashing.
I took it back into the store and they replaced it. Today however, I tried to download some apps, and it keeps prompting me to log into my apple id. When I do, I enter my password etc... then I get to the part for payment, and using the same credit card I used for the first phone i input the exact info that worked for the first phone. It keeps telling me "SECURITY CODE IS INVALID" but I KNOW I am entering this number correctly.
Are you only allowed to use a credit card once? Has my second phone crashed? What gives?
Thank you for any help... I am new at this and not so good...

Launch iTunes. From the menu bar click Store / View My Account
    Click: Edit Payment Information
Make sure you have the correct Security Code.
    Then click: Done
And try resetting your Apple ID password.  https://iforgot.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/DSiForgot.woa/wa

  • I am trying to manage family sharing and I get a warning "invalid apple ID" that accounts can participate in one Family at a time.  How can I add my daughter when I can't even access my account?

I am trying to manage family sharing and I get a warning "invalid apple ID"  accounts can participate in one Family at a time.  How can I add my daughter when I can't even access my account?

Your best bet would be to try resetting the password to the account that you would like to use via iForgot
Once you log in to that account change the email address to anything, it can even be fake its just a placeholder
After you do that you will be free to change your old email address on your appleID to the new one that is now free to be used as it is no longer attached to the other account.

  • HT204053 Can you assign an existing Apple ID to Family Sharing and specify it as a Child account?

Create an Apple ID and added to Family Sharing but want to change it to a Child account. I didn't want to use the @icloud.com address as it already has an existing email address. Is this possible?

    Hello chrismccreery,
After reviewing your post, I have located a couple articles that may help you. The first will aid you in setting up an Apple ID as a child in Family Sharing. The second article will explain iCloud email aliases in which you can choose at will in most cases:
    For more about Family Sharing:
Family Sharing and Apple IDs for kids - Apple Support
    For iCloud email aliases:
iCloud: About your @icloud.com, @me.com, and @mac.com email addresses - Apple Support
Depending on when you created your iCloud account, your iCloud email addresses and aliases may end with @icloud.com, @me.com, or @mac.com domains. Learn how these email addresses are granted.
Review these scenarios to see which one applies to you:
If you created an iCloud account on or after September 19, 2012, your email address ends with @icloud.com. Learn more about @icloud.com mail addresses.
If you created an iCloud account before September 19, 2012, or moved to iCloud with an active MobileMe account before August 1, 2012, you have both @me.com and @icloud.com email addresses.
If you had a working @mac.com email address as of July 9, 2008, kept your MobileMe account active, and moved to iCloud before August 1, 2012, you can use @icloud.com, @me.com, and @mac.com email addresses with your iCloud account.
In each case, you can sign in to iCloud with either your @icloud.com email address or the Apple ID that you use with your iCloud account.
If you created one or more email aliases for your account, be aware of the following:
You can change or delete an email alias, but if you delete an @mac.com or @me.com email alias, you can't add it back to your iCloud account.
You can't sign in to iCloud.com with an email alias. Sign in with your @icloud.com email address or the Apple ID that you use with your iCloud account.
Thank you for contributing to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,

  • Why can't I use PayPal with Family Sharing? Have a US Visa card but foreign address, and Apple does not seem to be able to cope with that (even though it is a multinational corporation). Could we lean on Apple to change this policy?

Paypal for Family Sharing - Why can't I use PayPal with Family Sharing? Have a US Visa card but a foreign address, and Apple does not seem to be able to cope with that (even though it is a multinational corporation). So I set up payment with Paypal, and it worked fine. Now I want to take advantage of Family Sharing, but Apple won't allow it. Could we lean on Apple to change this policy?

If you are not in the US then you cannot use the US store, the store's terms say that you have to be in a country to use it - if you are using the US store then you are risking having your account disabled.
