Hi all,
we're looking at trying to block iTunes on all business iPhones and iPADs using ActiveSync to prevent users downloading applications
What I have found so far is:
1) iTunes is part of the OS and as such is defined as an In-ROM application– An OS applications
2) ActiveSync can only block In-Memory applications – user or business downloaded applications
Can someone confirm I have understood this correctly. If not;
3) Are there issues to blocking iTunes? Will it break anything else?

I'm not sure. I guess I wouldn't be surprised if you can't--iTunes is a fundamental app for iOS
I'd suggest looking in detail at the options available for configuring iOS policies using Exchange ActiveSync, or perhaps exploring an alternate mobile device management solution. Although, I believe because of the locked down nature of iOS that third party MDM tools can't really do anything more/different than EAS. For more about me, check out my about.me profile.

When you add a gift card balance to the Apple ID, it's available for the Apple ID.
Probably best to create unique Apple ID's for each... this will also make things easier in the future as purchases are eternally tied to the Apple ID they were purchased with. -

If you do then that won't stop you being able to purchase items on your phone - you only need to be logged into an account to be able to purchase with it.

My old itunes id was an email that no longer can be used, therefore, I can not change the password for that account. Everything that I purchased under that id name will not play. How can I fix this?

Apple recommends you change your Apple ID to your current, working email address. This will not create another Apple ID, it will only change it to your working email address. See Changing the name you use for your Apple ID if you'd like more information.
Note: @mac.com and @me.com Apple IDs can not be renamed. If you no longer use the .mac or .me email address be sure to add your valid email address as an additional email address.

When I go to iTunes and then check for updates. I can not do this action due to the fact iTunes will not connect to the internet although the internet is working just fine, what do I do to fix this issue? Apparently I am currently using iTunes 7.0.
If you're really using iTunes 7.0 you are very far behind the current version - maybe it is trying to connect to a decomissioned server. In fact I am kind of surprised it will run on a Macbook Air. Are you sure you are running iTunes 7?

i was downloading the latest software upgrade when the message "Itunes has detected an Iphone in recovery mode. You must restore this phone before it can be used with Itunes" came up. My option of I phone recovery mode says that it will restore the Iphone to factory mode losing all information.
is there anything I can do to prevent this?If the iPhone is in recovery mode, all data is already lost.

My iPad Air, 32 gb will not start up. It had 97% battery charge,last time I used it. I tried connecting to my iMac but iTunes said I needed to add my password to my iPad Air, which I can't do since the iPad. Air won't start up. The iPad air is one week old. Bummer, eh?

We have multiple computers and iPhone devices which I have passed on to other family members, such as my wife. Now she is not able to load apps to her devices, eventhough it appear she is logged into her own iTunes account. How can I setup iTunes correctly on each device? Currently, there is one PC and one Mac laptop and we each have iPhones, with one other family member not able to use his 'passed-down' device for iTunes, also.

I used Ion Profile Pro turntable to digitize some old records. It worked fine for most of the records, but on five or six albums I get an error message saying "the original file can't be found" and it won't transfer them to my iPod Touch. However, the files are on my hard disk digitized and I can click on them and play them in Windows Media Player. When I go to iTunes, the records (or the CD created from the original records) exits in the iTunes libraries for sale. However, in some cases, the contents of the album offered for sale differs slightly from the original record, or the songs exist on different albums, but not the original album that I had. In some cases minor misspellings occurred on a few titles when they were entered in the ION softwareon my computer. In a few cases, it seemed as if ION did not recognize that there were two or three songs and ran them all together as one and again, my song list does not exactly match Apple's.
I own these songs, but iTunes won't put them on my iPod Touch. Is there anything I can do (short of paying for songs I already own) to get Apple to recognize these songs?You seem to have an iTunes problem, not an iPod problem. Try posting in the iTunes forum.

How do I block this msg from always popping up "iTunes requires Safari 4.0.3 or later to be installed to use the iTunes Store within iTunes. Use Software Update to download and install the latest version of Safari". I cannot download this software bc my lap top is to old. I need to uninstall and reinstall iTunes (it won't let me update). I have IE 8 on Windows XP, and iTunes 10 something. In my Program files list I see iTunes and iTunes (2) and even iPod and iPod (2) where a tech had to back up and do this for me before. I'm just trying to fix it all. I keep getting the "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'iTunes.msi' in the box below." I can even run a search and find the folder, but it gives me the same error message. I was planning on using the Microsoft Fix-It tool to help uninstall then Reinstall iTunes. But I need to backup my library. So, how do I copy or back up my iTunes library of over 1,500 songs? Can I copy the folder to desktop or can I use a Flash Drive to backup my music? I don't want to do anything until I know for sure how I can backup my songs, and then reinstall them into iTunes. Thanks for any help.
Ok, thanks that helps. I don't have an external hard drive though. What about backing up through 'the cloud'? I'm just wondering since my husband syncs his iPod to the PC through iTunes and he's worried that he will lose all the songs on his iPod if the library is lost from iTunes and he tries to 'sync' it up again. I'm not exactly sure how to 'copy the entire iTunes folder' either. I kinda suck at this unless I have step by step instructions, which I haven't found yet on iTunes help or other sources.
The only way I know how to back anything up is by going back to a restore point, etc. (as stated before, we don't have an external hard drive.)

My ipad keeps telling me it is disabled and to connect to itunes. I have powered my ipad off connected it to the computer holding down the home button. I get the display on my ipad but my ipad does not show up on itunes. I have also tried the locate my ipad and erased everything, but that needs the internet to wipe everything out, so I am still getting the display disabled connect to Itunes. Is there anything else I can try?

‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just canceling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.

My itunes is on an old computer. So old that I can't update it and so Haven't used it in two years. How can I move it to my new laptop and make sure this doesn't happen again? Very frustrated that I've spend $$ but can't get my music.
I want so set up itunes on my laptop and make sure that I get all of my old music and any music shared from my sons' itunes accounts. Do I have to set up itunes on my new laptop first and then use the same logins? Really concerned about losing any music, etc.These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
Note if you have failed to move contacts and calendar items across you should create one dummy entry of each in your new profile and iTunes should merge the existing data from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.
