Can I built-in Toshiba MK1237GSX HDD on my Satellite L40?

Hello,
Can anyone please advise me if this drive is suitable for installing in an L40?
Regards...............Terence.

Hi!
I have used Google for this HDD part number and is that right that this HDD has 120GB and SATA interface?
If yes Im pretty sure that this HDD will work in the Satellite L40 because it has a SATA interface and I dont see a reason why it should not work.
How do you think about this?
Bye

  • Qosmio X770-13E - can I built it second internal HDD/SSD?

Hello from the snowy mountains of Savoy !
My computer is a Qosmio X770-13E.
I am disappointed because it runs very slowly (I have the "windows 7 explorer green bar problem" ...)
I have extended the RAM to 8 Go : no real speed change.
In this computer there is only one hard drive (750 Go, 5400 turns/minute).
The windows hard disk access evaluation is only 5.9 !
There is an empty place near the hard drive, so I wonder if it is possible or not to add a second internal hard drive or even a SSD.
I have searched for this in the user's manual : no answer !
And on the web, I have also found no answer.
    Perhaps on this forum ?
Thanks, and excuse me for my "amateur english" (I am french !)
    Jerome.

Generally speaking it is not easy to discuss about notebook performance. Every of us uses notebook with specific configuration and preinstalled applications that may run in the background and slow down notebooks reaction.
All I can say is that you should check OS configuration and disable some useless applications to start with Windows. Disable also automatic Windows update installation. This can also slow down notebook operations.
    HDD/SSD
I dont have this Qosmio notebook but what will be interesting to know is follow: when you remove this cover and check empty place is HDD/SSD connector available or not?

  • Can't boot Arch from external HDD

Hi, well first off this is not my first Arch Linux installation, I'm using Arch for a little over a year now (coming from slack). But this is my first attempt to have Arch on an external HDD.
Alrighty, the situation is as follows: A rather new computer (supports booting from USB devices and the bios is set to boot from removable devices first) with a built in HDD and an external HDD that's connected to that computer via USB.
What I did: I connected the external HDD to the computer and booted off a 2008.6 Overlord core-CD.
Arch-Live recognized the internal HDD as sda and the external HDD as sdb.
I partitioned the external HDD using cfdisk and ran mkfs.ext3 on it (I didn't use any switches with that).
I started the installer, set my mount points (I should mention I'm not gonna use a swap partition here), installed the packages, well just went through the installation routine and installed grub in the MBR of sdb (the external HDD).
Then I rebooted. And this is what doesn't work: When I boot that computer with the external HDD connected the computer completely hangs right before grub would come up. It freezes completely, ctrl+alt+del doesn't work, I need to use the powerswitch to reboot the computer.
So I put the Arch-CD back in the CD drive trying to boot into my Arch System on the external HDD. So I started typing:
    root (hd1,0)
    kernel /boot/vmlinuz26 root=/dev/sdb1 ro vga=773
    initrd /boot/kernel26.img
When I try to boot off that grub tells me that there is no such device as hd1,0. The funny thing is, that the auto copmletion in grub works for the kernel /boot/vmlinuz26 but it doesn't for the device /dev/sdb1, in fact even root=/de<tab> returns a "unrecognized string" message.
So this is what I did and I can't boot off my external HDD, neither can I boot into my system on the external hdd from the cdrom.
    What am I missing here?

The harddrive you boot from is in my experience always hd0. Could this mean your external disc is hd2?
Have you tried chainloading from the installer cd to your external disc?

  • Can I install a 2nd HDD in my Satellite P200-10C?

    Hi
I have a Satellite P200-10C which I want to upgrade with a 2nd HDD. I called a Toshiba representative who told me my model doesn't support an other HDD. But then again, why does it have a place in the back of the laptop for a 2nd one?
Could some one tell me if it can be used to accommodate a 2nd HDD.
    Thanks in advance
    Gerardo

    @Jayjay
I finally decided to open the compartment for the 2nd HDD of my Satellite P200-10C. I discovered there the modem (I think) and enough space to accommodate a HDD but alas! No connector for the HDD. I think that settled the matter. I can not have a 2nd HDD. Unless of course someone in the future find a way to attach a connector.
    Thanks for your answer, Jajay

  • Can't restore HDD on my Satellite L650-18M

Satellite L650 frozen at boot up. despite mc fee, a virus has stopped boot up. Stops at flashing cursor top left. can boot from recovery cd. BUT restore / recovery wont complete to any selected restore point though it goes through all the motions and then says at end, cant complete with error.
No toshiba hdd recovery option (ie to factory settings) is available in recovery console, or with recovery disk.
D Drive has all the recovery data ok as I can move aroud from c> prompt in dos to alldrives/ areas. Dont have own burned recovery disks. This happened quick .
NOW installed win 7 (64bit) in frustration from 'a' disk, works but all installed s/wareand toshiba drivers now useless . Bottom line, is there a patch to install or a work around that will allow access to reset to the factory settings with the data stored on disk/drive D. Normal methods of starting this process are not available

Can you please tell us which error was shown at the end of recovery installation?
Anyway, now after OS installation with non-Toshiba disc there is no way to start HDD recovery installation again and recovery image can be installed with Toshiba recovery DVD only.
    > NOW installed win 7 (64bit) in frustration from 'a' disk, works but all installed s/wareand toshiba drivers now useless
To be honest your posting is a little bit confusing and I dont understand what you want to say with this sentence. If you have installed clean OS you must install all drivers and Toshiba stuff additionally. All of them are available on Toshiba download page.
If you have more questions please be clear and ask one by one so it will be easier to give answer to each of them.

  • Re: Satellite L550-129 doens't support Toshiba external HDD

Toshiba Satellite L550-129 doens't support Toshiba external hdd store.e canvio.
Al other thosiba laptops in the familie work with the store.e canvio and a lot of older coputers?????

If your external HDD is not recognized, then this can be caused by low power supply from USB port or its simply an software issue.
The Toshiba page http://www.toshiba-multimedia.com/chd/store-externe-festplatten/canvio/ says that STOR.E CANVIO needs 900mA
The usual USB 2.0 standard provides 500mA
So you need an USB Y cable to connect such HDD to two USB 2.0 ports

  • Toshiba 1TB HDD, Undetectable

    Hello everyone,
I have Toshiba 1TB HDD (Internal), it's a gift from my friend. It's almost 3mons that I've been using this. All of sudden, the hard disk is not showing on my computer, i tried i reseating the hard disk but still my computer I can no longer detecting the hard disk.
I tried to check it's warranty, and it's still has warranty until 2015. I'm concerning if there's RMA process here in the Philippines.

    Hi Sandy,
Sorry to hear about the problem. For support of internal hard drives you would need to call 888-592-0944 (probably US only) or 00+1+949-583-3305.

  • Can't boot MBP. New HDD worked for a day, back at square one

Out of no-where my MBP froze after bring it out of sleep mode. I held down the power button and when turning it on it stuck at the grey spinning circle screen. I tried:
    1) reset PRAM
    2) booting to recovery partition and repair permissions and disk.Disk repair failed, can't recall the exact error.
    3) booting to 10.7 CD that I made from my Lion AppStore download and repairing permissions and disk. Disk repair failed, can't recall the exact error.
I had a spare drive lying around so I opened it up and replaced the drive. Booted to the Lion DVD, formatted the drive and install Lion. Everything installed no problems. After the install I downloaded all of my applications and starting restoring all of my data from a backup drive. After getting almost all of my things set up to my liking the machine hung. I held down the power button and then pressed power again to turn on the machine. After the Apple logo screen the dreaded flashing question mark came onto the screen.
I can take either of these two HDDs and place them into an enclosure and read/write data on the disk without a problem so it seems unlikely that I had two bad (flaky) HDDs. I tried inserting my 10.6 and 10.5 install discs and holding D before the grey screen to start the hardware diagnostics tool but it just boots onto a black screen with a white cursor in the top left corner. I'm afraid to let it sit at this screen too long because the machine gets pretty hot near the display hinge.
    Any ideas?

I tried that earlier but I guess I didn't wait long enough. I wasn't factoring in that the load time would be slower booting it via USB. If it's just that cable that would be great. It's ironic if that's the problem because I replaced that cable 6-8 months ago because my sleep indicator stopped working. I may have the old one, if not I'll order one since it's only a $30-40 part and let you know if that resolved it.

  • Can i clone my macbook air HDD into an SSD and then install that on a macbook pro??

i Have a macbook air 2013 with mavericks and my brother has a 2012 macbook pro with yosemite, i want to keep mavericks, can i clone my air's HDD into an SSD and install that SSD into the pro??

Yes, although your MBA does not have an HDD. It has an SSD. Just put the new SSD into a dock or enclosure, clone your drive to it, then install the new SSD into the MBP.
Clone Yosemite, Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion using Restore Option of Disk Utility
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
         1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu then press the Continue
             button.
         2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
         3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
         4. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it
             to the Destination entry field.
         5. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to
             the Source entry field.
         6. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external SSD. Source means the internal startup drive.

  • I am new with iMac and I am trying to copy some file from my external HDD but it does not let me also I can't delete anything from this HDD using the finder. Can somebody help me , please?

I am new with iMac and I am trying to copy some file from my external HDD that a used with my PC but it does not let me also I can't delete anything from this HDD using the finder. Can somebody help me , please?

No, unfortunately, when you format a drive, it will erase all the contents. So you will need to find a temporary "storage" place to put the stuff using a PC so you have access to it. Then reformat using Disk Utility (Applications > Utilities). If only using with mac, format Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and use GUID Partition scheme under Partitions/Options. After formatting, you can drag the files back.

  • How can i built a java application using java debug class on Log4J

    Hi,
As java API support the MethodEntryEvent, using which I can get the automatic logging statements when the method is entered or exited as HelloExample.main(with argument type).
Where HelloExample is the class name.
Main is the method entered with its argument types.
In some cases I have the o/p as
    -- VM Started --
    ====== main ======
    main -- HelloExample
    callerMethod -- HelloExample
    ====== main end ======
    -- The application exited --
By using Log4J is there any possibility of getting these sort of o/p along with the loggers supported by Log4J. i mean to say can i built an java application which supports the MethodEntryEvent and MethodExitEvent from java API and also uses the Log4J debugging. I took an e.g. trace example, which (in J2SE 1.4.x or 5.x) will be found in $JAVA_HOME/demo/jpda/examples.jar and unpacking it by
jar -xvf $JAVA_HOME/demo/jpda/examples.jar i found the com/sun/tools/example/trace/Trace.java and passed the class constructed with logger taken from Log4J. In this case the logging message is displayed on the console. As per the requirement i need to transfer the whole o/p to an output file along with Log4J logger statements. in this case i should not give any command in the cosule except compiling and executing the programme. the programm also should able to run without the main() as i need to integrate Log4J with an application and the code must me application server independent. i need the output as i got using MethodEnteryEvent (shown as above) in case of java application built using Log4J.
Can any one help me in this regard. can any one give me some suggestion or any programme of this sort. All suggestions are welcomed.
    Thanks & Regards,

    hi,
can someone help me how to implement logging for method entry parameters and
    method exit return value.
can someone help me how to use log4j and integrate it to the method entry
    logging and method exit logging.
Here what i need is without writing the log statements for the method entry and
method exit i need to log it to the file
along with other log4j debug statements i provide in the file.I should be able
to configure whether to enable/disable the logging
for method entry and method exit. In method entry i should be able to log the
parameters the method take and in method exit
i should be able to log te return value to the log file, before the method is
    returned to the callee.
    i hope i am clear
    Thanks in advance.

Reinstall MacFuse with the one from http://www.tuxera.com/mac/macfuse-core-10.5-2.1.9.dmg. If that doesn't work, you can use Paragon NTFS for Mac 9.0 which has been designed to work with Lion.

  • Can I swap out my mechanical HDD for a Solid State?

Can I swap out my mechanical HDD (7200 RPM, 320Gb) for a solid state drive? If so, am I able to purchase such a drive, like the ones that come standard in Macbook Pros on the Apple site? Can I purchase an item like this from Apple?
If not, could someone point me in the right direction?
Also, on the same note, is it possible purchase replacement Mechanical HDD (like the one I already have) from Apple; if so, a link please?
    Cheers!

You'll find everything you need here, swapping them is easy just get the right tools and take it slowly.

  • New to Mac....can transfer files from Toshiba to Mac. But can't transfer files from Mac to Toshiba??? Can anyone help please?

New Mac user......own a new iMac and iPad and still use a Toshiba Laptop. Can transfer files from Toshiba to iMac but can't transfer files other direction?

Are you doing these transfers over a Network connection, the systems are networked together over your Home LAN? Or are you doing it with an external drive?
If an external drive Mac OS X can READ Windows NTFS formatted drives but can NOT WRITE to them. So you can co[py files to the drive on your Win PC and READ them on the Mac but Mac OS X can not Write to that drive so you can't copy files from Mac to that drive.
For an external drive to work on both systems, be able to Read and Write from/to that drive, it has to be formatted either FAT32 or exFAT.
