Can I burn a slideshow without music?

I created a simple slideshow in iPhoto, and it doesn't contain music (my choice). Now I want to use iDVD to burn it, but I can't seem to find a way to burn it without there being music attached. Is there a way to burn this project without a soundtrack?
My workaround is to import the .mov generated from iPhoto into Final Cut, render it, and export it for iDVD -- but is there an easier way? It's a pretty lengthy slideshow (~30 minutes), and my Mac is more than capable of doing it, but I feel like there just has to be a different way.
TIA.

we read reports a while ago, that projects without any audio could force iDVD to behave odd (=endless encoding/freeze....)
the workaorund for that was, to create a 'silent' audio clip...
use any audio app (Garageband, Audacity, ....) to create 30secs of 'nil' ... silence, zero, nada...
use this .aiff to underlay your slideshow...

  • Can I Burn a Slideshow with Music onto a Disk?

I have a slide show with music and I want to burn both to a disk to give to friends who have Macs and PCs. Is there a disk that will record both? Is it best to burn from iDVD or Toast 7?

    Sue,
Most of the time when a PC can't play a DVD, an update of WinDVD needs to be downloaded (provided the PC has a DVD-Rom drive). Most PCs seem to be geared for "business" so multi-media stuff is outdated and forgotten. Or, if the PC can't play a DVD it may be because it only has a CD-Rom drive (as many PCs only do), and in this case it's time to chuck the PC and buy a Mac

  • How can I burn a dvd without themes?

how can I burn a dvd without themes?

    (From fellow poster Mishmumken: )
How to create a DVD in iDVD without menu (there are several options):
    1. Easy: Drop your iMovie in the autoplay box in iDVD's Map View, then set your autoplay item (your movie) to loop continously. Disadvantage: The DVD plays until you hit stop on the remote
    2. Still easy: If you don't want your (autoplay) movie to loop, you can create a black theme by replacing the background of a static theme with a black background and no content in the dropzone (text needs to be black as well). Disadvantage: The menu is still there and will play after the movie. You don't see it, but your disc keeps spinning in the player.
    3. Still quite easy but takes more time: Export the iMovie to DV tape, and then re-import using One-Step DVD.
Disadvantage: One-Step DVD creation has been known to be not 100% reliable.
    4. (My preferred method) Easy enough but needs 3rd party software: Roxio Toast lets you burn your iMovie to DVD without menu - just drag the iMovie project to the Toast Window and click burn. Disadvantage: you'll need to spend some extra $$ for the software. In Toast, you just drop the iMovie project on the Window and click Burn.
    5. The "hard way": Postproduction with myDVDedit (freeware)
    Tools necessary: myDVDedit ( http://www.mydvdedit.com )
    • create a disc image of your iDVD project, then double-click to mount it.
    • Extract the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders to a location of your choice. select the VIDEO_TS folder and hit Cmd + I to open the Inspector window
    • Set permissions to "read & write" and include all enclosed items; Ignore the warning.
    • Open the VIDEO_TS folder with myDVDedit. You'll find all items enclosed in your DVD in the left hand panel.
    • Select the menu (usually named VTS Menu) and delete it
    • Choose from the menu File > Test with DVD Player to see if your DVD behaves as planned. If it works save and close myDVDedit.
    • Before burning the folders to Video DVD, set permissions back to "read only", then create a disc image burnable with Disc Utility from a VIDEO_TS folder using Laine D. Lee's DVD Imager:

Our resident expert, Old Toad, also recommends this: there is a 3rd export/share option that give better results.  That's to use the Share ➙ Media Browser menu option.  Then in iDVD go to the Media Browser and drag the movie into iDVD where you want it.
    Hope this helps!

Ask in the iDVD forum on what's the best way out of iPhoto and into iDVD.  The resident expert there, Bengt Wärleby, can give you the best option.

  • How can I make a slideshow with music and burn it to a disk?

I need to make a photo slideshow with music and burn it to a disk. I am able to make the slideshow but I cant figure out how to save it or burn it to a disk.

How do you want to play the slideshow?  On another computer or on a TV set?
If it's the former export the slideshow as a QT movie file to the desktop and burn that file to a disk with the Finder.
If you want to create a video DVD of the slideshow so that it can be viewed on a TV set, use the Share ➙ iDVD menu option.  That will export the slideshow into iDVD where you can complete the menu and project design.
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.  To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good and you can then burn to disk with Disk Utility at the slowest speed available to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatium, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • How can I burn a slideshow to a disc?

So I made a slideshow using keynote. I've tried numerous times to burn it to a disc by dragging the saved slideshow on my desktop to the disc and then burning it, which is what Finder Help says to do. However, the disc won't read in a Windows computer or a DVD player. The files are there, but they are in the wrong order, without music, and won't play like a slideshow should. Is it because the file type is unsupported? Or is it just that I'm burning it wrong? Whatever it is, can someone please help me? I'm so frustrated!!

Greetings and Welcome to the Forum:
Dragging the KN file to the desktop and "burning" it to a disc only copies the file, it does not make it playable on another computer (or DVD player) unless it is re-opened as a KN file.
To make it playable on another machine (especially a DVD player or non-Mac computer), you need to Export the KN file to another format: QuickTime, iMovie, etc. Be aware that there currently are issues with QuickTime 7.5 and Keynote that are a result of some poor software writing by the good folks at Apple. Keep watching this forum for further details and updates.
    Good luck.

  • How can I burn a slideshow to a DVD from with in iPhoro?

I have several slideshows that I spent a long time working on on a old drive that I don't use. How can I bring the slideshows across in tact so that I don't have to spend a huge amount of time organizing the photos again and, even worse, having to redo all the manual Ken Burn's effects so that zoom right from one part of the photo to the other part.
I suppose I could send the slideshow to iDVD but I don't think I would then be able to import it into iPhoto.

Yes. To get a larger, widescreen, QT movie you will have to use iMovie. I recommend you useiMovie HD 6 as it's much better for adding music, etc.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • HT1103 How can I burn a slideshow (with sound) to a DVD.  I have an imac desktop.

Does anyone know how to burn a slideshow to a dvd disc.  It has pictures, video and music.  LLaBant

To create a video DVD disk that can be played in set top DVD players and shown on a TV set you need a DVD video authoring application, like iDVD.  If you do not have iDVD on your Mac you'll have to purchse it by bying a copy of the iLife 09 disk from a 3rd party retailer like Amazon.com.
Why iLife 09 and not 11:
If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides  themes from iDVD 5-7.  The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes when starting from the iLIfe 11 disk nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.
Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:
This shows the iDVD contents in the iLife 09 disc via Pacifist:
You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.
1 - once you have iDVD installed export the slideshow out of iPhoto at Size = Medium or Large:
2 - 0pen iDVD, select your theme and drag the exported movie file into the menu window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
3 - follow this workflow to help ensure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • Can't burn iPhoto slideshow to a DVD. Can you help?

I have made a slide show from photos in iPhoto.  It works fine and I have published it to my "me gallery".  I now want to make a DVD of this slideshow.  I have tried to use an old version of Toast and I get an error message after the slideshow has been formated and "supposedly" burned.  I've tried to burn it from the iTunes application and that doesn't work either.  Can anyone help?

The only way to get a slideshow into iDVD with the transitions, music, etc. that you see in iPhoto is to use the "Create" button in iPhoto to create the slideshow:
Then create the slideshow in the slideshow mode and use the Export button at the bottom to export the slideshow at a QT movie.
Since iDVD resized media down to 640 x 480 choose the size closest to that, but larger. Then open iDVD, select your theme and drag the movie into the menu being sure to avoid any drop zones.

Try exporting the slideshow as a QT movie file.  It should keep all of your transitions, etc. and then you can drag the QT file into the iDVD menu being careful to avoid any drop zones.

  • Can't burn a DVD without Administrator Rights

    Hi,
We don't allow our users to run with administrator rights on our domain.  If we take away the admin rights, they can't burn a DVD, but if I do a RunAs Administrator on Premiere Elements, they can.  How can I run P.E. without admin rights so they can burn a DVD?  We are running Windows XP SP3, 32bit mode.  Thanks.

Aside from Hunt's idea of writing the output to a folder and using the free Imgburn to write to a disc (have you tried that?) you have just run up against one of the design limitations of all flavors of Premiere... Elements and the various versions of Premiere Pro
The products are simply not DESIGNED to run in a network environment... they are meant to be used by one user on one computer, with full rights to be able to use all functions
I don't know what to suggest, but you may need to find a different product, if Hunt's suggestion does not work for you
Do note that I do NOT work for Adobe... but I've been reading these forums for many years, and the answers I've seen have all been the same... the products just are not designed to, and do not work in a network environment
Even using PPro/Encore CS5, due to Win7 settings, whereI am the owner and only user of the software, I must right click the Encore icon and select Run as Administrator when I want to create a dual layer DVD... but not when I'm creating a single layer DVD
For your situation... I've never seen a solution other than full Administrator rights to use all program functions

  • Burn iphoto slideshow with music to dvdr

I am having trouble burning a slideshow to a DVD. Can this be done?

    Yes.
But what are you trying to do, exactly?
Burn a DVD that you can play on your domestic DVD player? If so, you need to use the Share -> Send to iDVD as only iDVD can make such a disk
Just back up a Slideshow to a Disk? Then export it as a QuickTime movie and burn that with the FInder.

  • Apple Tv, can I have a slideshow and music from the iPad at the same time?, Apple Tv, can I have a slideshow and music from the iPad at the same time?

I am having trouble streaming a slideshow and music at the same time to the HDTV via the Apple TV. It seems to just play the one song, even when I hit the playlist selection. What am I doing wrong?

Yes, you should be able to do that easily provided your home network can handle it.
If you are trying to do this by using the Airplay icon you can't.
The correct way to do this is to access the iTunes library via AppleTV using its Computers menu.

I believe I have plenty of free disc space. I am creating a new project. I drag 98 iphotos and about 3 hours of isongs(mp3). I am using "loop slide show", "slide duration-fit to audio", I hit return, preview and all seems good. I hit burn, walk away and in a few hours it tells me error in burning/multiplexing. I have been successful with much smaller (3 slides, 3 songs) but want a party DVD with lots of songs. Any suggestions as to what I am doing wrong?

    "about 3 hours of isongs"
Sorry, that's way over the limit for iDVD. iDVD uses uncompressed PCM audio while the video is compressed.
Try using an hour or 1 1/2 hours of audio maximum to see if it will work.
