Can I burn to an audio CD album bought online?

I just recently bought a couple of albums, can I burn them on an audio CD to listen to them elsewhere?

Do you want a technical answer or the legal side?
I see you've already been given a technical option so here's the quote from the little book I read on I-Pods.
'It's not illegal to copy as long as obtained legitimately, for your own use, and do not copy to a friends computer or I-Pod.' (shown on page 15).
If your interested the book is called Rough Guide To I-Pods (ISBN No. 1-84353-723-0). Showing as C$13.99.

  • New version of iTunes will not allow me to burn audiobooks to audio CDs

i just pruchased an audiobook from iTunes. as i've always done in the past, i went to burn an audio CD to back it up. i have did this with Diamond's 'Collapse' and was signaled that it would take multiple audio CDs. no problem. when i went to burn this new audiobook, i was given a warning that sometracks could not be burned to a single audio CD. no kidding? i clicked 'OK' and then was prompted that the tracks would not fit on one audio CD, but would require multiple discs, just as it had always been. no problem. so, i clicked 'OK' and waited, and waited, and waited... you get the picture. nothing happened. i tried it several times. same result. so, i can't burn my new purchase to an audio CD with the newest verion of iTunes. this is irritating because now i can't burn it to audio discs in order to listen to it in my car. why is this not working? i've also had issues with other aspects of the new version, but this is the most immediate problem. my last question went unanswered, so PLEASE someone help me out here since you can't go to iTunes for any help. thanks in advance for any assistance.
      Windows XP

I think I've discovered what the new iTunes lets you do. You need to drag and drop a new playlist into the iPod. After about 10 tries at this, and 2 forced quits of iTunes as the screen froze, I finally saw my playlist listed under the iPod contents and the synching began. Then the iMac told me that synching was impossible as it couldn't find the device. No iPod connected! So now iMac shows no iPod attached, but iPod thinks its still synching. I'll leave it for an hour and see what happens.

  • How many audio CD's can I burn?

So, I took the plunge yesterday and bought my first music store tracks. Now have a few questions (I suppose logically I should have looked for the answers first but I just wanted to try it anyway
Most of all I'd like to know, is there a restriction on the number of audio CD's I can burn? I've read 7 in a couple of posts but can find absolutely zilch in Apple's support about this. Must say, I find it a bit of a cheek if there is a restriction. It's my music now, afterall !!! I just hope the whole point of not allowing you to burn from Toast anymore, but only from iTunes is to remove this need to limit burning?
Which leads me to my next question; this thing about only burning from iTunes now... is that a restriction set by Toast or by Quicktime? Or both? Because I read somewhere that QT7 prevents you from burning. Somewhere else I read you can still burn using Toast 6.0.1.
And finally a question about quality. This is something I've been struggling with for a long time and my library has become chaos as far as encoding is concerned. I just can't decide. To me 192 bit MP3 sounds fine, as does 128 bit AAC (Music Store). But everywhere I read people seem obsessed with seemingly huge bitrates always rubbishing these so called "high-quality" settings. So being the gullable person I am I've started believing too much of what I've read and become paranoid that 128 bit AAC just doesn't cut it.
Thing is, for a long time I went along with the old addage "if it sounds good for you..." but I'd like to start taking my powerbook out with me DJ-ing (private parties, small venues) as I'm fed up of lugging vinyl about, not to mention people who don't have record players anymore . But are music store files gonna sound bad over a small/med sized sound-system? Or am I just being scared by a few audiophiles who hang out in recording studios 12 hours a day and for all their trained hearing have forgotten what the layman hears (or doesn't hear)?!? Because if the answer really is "forget it, it'll sound awfull" then I really need to question the point of buying from the music store.
Thanks in advance for your opinions...

    Rich,
Sounds like you have your answer as far as the number of times you can burn a playlist with protected music in it. Keep in mind that if you alter the playlist you can get another 7 burns in.
By the way, just because you buy a CD or "Tune" doesn't make it "yours." How would you feel if you produced a track, went through a copyright process, and everyone who paid $1 for it had legal rights to it? Yes you own a copy of others music but it doesn't give you the right to mass produce it and/or distribute or sell it. DJ's like us are always skirting the line between copyright infringement and remix / alteration rights. I mean we get paid for playing other people's music right? Copyrights are there to protect artists against that scenario exactly. OK (stepping down from my soap box now)
Bitrate / Quality - of course through most systems 192 MP3 or 128 AAC will do just fine. But, just how large are these parties? If they truly are small house parties say one room up to 100 people, I'd say you're fine. But, when you play that same track on a full on sound system in, say a club or something (1000 people or so) with 2-5000 watts or more behind it, you will hear all the fuzz, noise, pops, etc. In the end it really is a personal decision, what's suitable quality to your ears? The vinyl sounds better doesn't it?
    Just my opinion...Hope it helps.

  • Can't burn audio CD with new iTunes 7.0.1.8

I installed iTunes 7.0.1.8 and now I cannot burn audio CDs. I can only burn data CDs. When I try to change preferences under "edit" "preferences" "advanced" "burning" to audio there is not way to save the change. In other words, there is no "ok" button. It reverts back to data CD and the button on the bottom right remains "burn data disc". Any suggestions?

I'm having troubles, too. If anyone could help, I'd appreciate it.
    1) How do I manually delete my podcasts now that they don't show up in my library any longer?
    2) Also, none of my non-music items are showing up anywhere in my library as they are not music. Items like books on CD that I downloaded and are genres for audiobooks but the system doesn't consider them audiobooks. Please help!
    Thanks.

  • Can't Burn Audio, MP3's skip

    Hello,
I just upgraded to Itunes 7 and I can't burn audio cd's. My CD-R is listed as useable and I've used all of the troubleshooting options I could find to no avail. Anyone having this problem.......and what was your solution if fixed.
Also, it will burn MP3 CD's but there are dropouts on all the tunes. It does this in a variety of players so it is definitely a problem with Itunes.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
    Frank

I feel your frustration. I am having the same problem and we are not alone either. The itune 7 upgrade has somehow "messed up" my previous burning ability. My burner is recognized but the software is absent. There is no way to back up my library to reinstall and I've read the "reinstall" technique is a sporadic fix.

  • Can I burn an album or albums in iPhoto to a CD or DVD

When I create several albums in iPhoto, can I burn them onto a CD or DVD?

Albums only exist as a concept within iPhoto.
What you can do is export each album in turn to folders and then burn those with the Finder.
    This User Tip
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4921
has details of the options in the Export dialogue.

  • How can I import several small audio files to create one BIG file in iTunes

I have ONE cd with THREE audio stories contained in EIGHTEEN audio files (6 files make each story). I also have an iMac. Not sure if they're mp3 or not, but they play on computers and car radios.
How can I take this CD, whisper abracadabra and end up with three files (each with one story)? Don't need to re-burn a CD, but just need to get them on to an iPod.
I've tried inserting the CD and using the right mouse click/info/options to select 6 files and identify them as a 'gapless album' - but this did not link the files together.
Any help you can offer would be appreciated. I have read pages & pages of topics, but could not find this particular issue.

    Insert the CD.
    Don't Import it yet.
    Select the CD in iTunes.
Select the consecutive tracks uyou want joined as one file.
Go to menu Advanced > Join CD tracks.
Do this for each set of tracks you want as one file.
    Then Import the CD.
If the tracks are already in iTunes, no need to import them again.
    Use this -> Join Together
"Join Together automates the process of joining the files of selected iTunes tracks together with QuickTime and exporting them as a single AAC Music or Audiobook file/track. Optionally, you can then create a "chapterized" audio file of the exported AAC file with pointers to the individually joined tracks."

  • Can't burn CD's from playlist

I downloaded every CD in my collections to I-Tunes and then created a playlist consisting of one album.  When I went to burn to CD I received the following message. Files can not be burned to an audio CD.  When I click on each song it says the file can not be found. How is this possible when I selected it from my library?  When I ask I-tunes to locate the file that does not work either. Any thoughts?

When you right-click and choose Show in Explorer, can you see the song file?  If iTunes does not have song the file accessible, it will not be able to burn it.

  • Disgusted. Can't burn tunes I paid for?

I am taking my child in to the hospital for a grueling 2 hour MRI. I want to burn a CD with her favorite tunes because they'll play it over the sound system for her. I knew this couldn't possibly be easy, so I started this 3 hours before we had to leave. I bought a bunch of songs in iTunes, then was told I can't burn an MP3 CD with those tunes. ***? So I exported as audio, changed import settings to import as MP3, but can't find them in iTunes.
This is idiotic. I hate getting punished for paying for music. I have never pirated a single tune in my life. But why should I pay if I can't use the tunes I buy?

You mean you burned an audio CD?
    Yes
Then you imported the audio CD? but can't find them in iTunes.
    Yes
Sort by Date added or by Kind or by Artist or by Album
    Thanks
This rant has nothing to do with iTunes
It has everything to do with iTunes. Converting a song to MP3 should be as simple as right-clicking and choose Convert to MP3 or something similar. How does it NOT have to do with iTunes? iTunes is both a store where i purchased the ******* music I can't use, and an app that makes it dismayingly difficult to use those same tunes.
    Thanks for the reply.
