CAN I BUY A MAC BOOK PRO FROM THE STATES AND USE IT IN EUROPE?

i will come on holiday in the states and am planning on buying a macbook pro...can i use it in europe. cos i know the voltage in europe is diff from US.

Yes - the power supply is auto-sensing for 110-240V.
You'll obviously need some kind of physical adapter though.
Bear in mind that a US macbook comes with a US keyboard where the top line characters are mapped differently from the various European versions - Dollar sign, Euro sign, Pound sign etc.
And check the warranty arrangements in case you have to take the mchine back to America to get warranty servicing done.
Strictly speaking, you may also be liable for local taxes on value of the computer when you get home. Sales taxes, import duties for example. Probably not a great concern.

  • Buying a Mac Book Pro from the UK

I reside in the UK and wanted to buy a MacBook Pro from the US to save some $$ (quite a lot - thanks Apple!) but have just realised that I cannot do this as I do not have a US billing address (even though I do own a house in the US).
Do I have any options around this - and will this be an issue if I was to come to the US to purchase one (will be in LA January) from a store.
My only worry is that I am on a business trip and timing is of essence so if it's going to take days to configure what I need - I'll be screwed - I just want to go in and come out with it. Can I reserve it before I go? I did call the store a few days ago and the guy on the phone told me I could only reserve one through an app...... er, but I don't have a mac currently or any apple product - so how am I supposed to do this?
    Any help very much appreciated!

    Hi c,
Given that you'll be dealing with an Apple Store or an authorized dealer, my suggestion is to narrow it down to one of the places you may buy it and contact them. Get the person's name first, and ask the questions you need to. I do not know if policy has changed, but it used to be that BTO (built to order) machines had to be shipped to the buyer (not picked up in the store); if that's the case, you'll have to buy a stock item and either upgrade it yourself when you have the time, or see if it's possible to have it upgraded at the store right after you buy it.

  • I got a Mac Book Pro from my company, and I can't update the apps because they are registered to another Apple ID.  Is there a way to change this so I can update my Apps?

As it says, I got a Mac Book Pro from my company and I would like to update the apps on it.  They are registered to a former employee's Apple ID, is there anyway for me to change it to my Apple ID?  Or do all of the Apps need to be re-purchased?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
You must repurchase the applications because you can't transfer programs from an Apple ID to another one

Hi I'm from the UK and I'm visiting the US in June I was wondering would I be able to buy a Mac mini over in the US and use it in the UK with a power adapter. Thanks!

You won't need a plug adapter if you buy a figure-of-eight mains lead (like most portable radios etc) with a UK plugtop to replace the original lead.

  • I am Canadian.  If I buy a Mac Book Pro in the USA is my warranty valid in Canada?

I Am Canadian visiting the United States.  If I purchase a Mac Book Pro in the US will the warranty be valid when I get back to Canada?

    Sorry, this should be a response to Fishmanbp;
From a fellow Canadian. Yes the warranty is valid in Canada, indeed anywhere in the world.
At Canada Customs you will have to pay HST on the purchase, unless you can persuade Customs that the cost was less than the permitted exemption. If you do pay HST, the cost will be the same as buying it here, within the daily fluctuations of the exchange rate.

  • Can I buy a MBP from the US and use it in Europe?

Title says it all. I found a "cheap" MBP 13 but I live in Greece. So someone told me that I won't be able to work anywhere but the US..is this true? He also told that I will have foible charging it. Will I need a concerter or something?
    Please respond.
    Thanks

You can use Mac products anywhere in the world, all you will need is a local adapter plug for the end of the MagSafe power pack cable.

  • Buying a Macbook Pro in the States and using it in the UK

    Hi everyone,
I am in America at the moment and was thinking of taking advantage of the exchange rate with the dollar. If I was to buy a MacBook Pro here in America would I have any issues with it in the UK?
I know we have different power supplies, will the MacBook over heat in the UK or does the power adaptor transform the power before it goes into the Mac?
Are there any other problems that I may have with it?
    Thanks,
    Jamie

I have purchased my MB Pro in Canada, and I have received service in the UK without any problems.
If you decide to seek service at the Apple Store, I strongly recommend Pro Care. I have walked into many Apple Stores worldwide, and I have been treated like a king because of it.

  • Can I take a canadian macbook pro to the UK and use it with a UK magsafe power lead?

I am moving to canada for 6 months and want to get a macbook pro over there. Will I have any power conversion problems when I bring it back to the UK? Can I use a UK magsafe macbook pro power lead without any changes or problems?

The only differences I can see between the Canadian English and British keyboards is the mapping of  the alt and shift+alt modifiers to the symbols and diacritical marks, and there are few differences even there.
    If you go to;
System Preferences > Language and Text > Input Sources tab. Top of the left column, tick (check) "Keyboard and Character Viewer", Bottom of window next to search field, tick "Show input menu in menu bar"
and; System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard tab; tick "show keyboard and character viewers in menu bar"
You can use the the input menu to switch between layouts at will and use the keyboard viewer to see the differences.

  • Can i buy a mac b pro in us with a swedish keyboard

is it possible to buy an mac book pro in the us with a swedish keyboard

The MacBook Pro has keyboard translator configurations available for dozens of languages, and even for different writing systems like Arabic and Indian and Asian languages. You can install these whenever you wish -- they are included in Mac OS X.
MacBook Pros sold from the US Online store are available with English, French, Spanish, and Japanese keyboards (which have some of those languages' characters pre-printed on the keys). Most other languages' keyboards are otherwise identical to the standard US-English keyboard in the number of keys and the rough placement of letters, numbers, and many (but not all) special symbols.
Swedish keyboards are not routinely available from the US Apple Online store, but the only difference is that the Swedish characters you want are not pre-printed. Five minutes careful work with a permanent marker would fix that part.
You local Apple Store is the place to go to try this out and ask this question. The Macs are all out on the tables for you to TRY, not just to admire the cutting-edge good looks. Go there and try setting:
System preferences >  Languages and text ...
... to Swedish, and see what the keyboard translation looks like.
Ask the folks there for assistance -- no one is on commission.

  • How do i connect my mac book pro to the tv to watch videos?

How can I connect my mac book pro to the HD TV to watch my videos on the TV?

Depending on what model of Macbook Pro you have, you can either wirelessly mirror your computer's monitor (using AirPlay, so an AppleTV is required.) You can also buy and HDMI cable and special adaptor for your Macbook Pro so you can wire your Macbook Pro to your TV via HDMI cable.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/HA824ZM/A/belkin-mini-displayport-to-hdmi-adap ter
This is an example of the adapter you might have to buy. The cable/adapter depends on your Macbook Pro model.

  • I WANT TO BUY A MAC BOOK PRO. MUST I WAIT FOR THE ONE WITH RETINA DISPLAY. WILL THE FACT THAT THERE IS NO CD ROAM BE A PROBLEM. CAN YOU USE A EXSTERNAL CD ROAM ON A MAC?

I WANT TO BUY A MAC BOOK PRO. MUST I WAIT FOR THE ONE WITH RETINA DISPLAY. WILL THE FACT THAT THERE IS NO CD ROAM BE A PROBLEM? CAN YOU USE AN EXSTERNAL CD ROAM WITH A MAC?

Apple will gladly sell you a color coordinated and texture matching external SuperDrive to go with your Retina'ized MBP for about $80 bucks.
Note that those models are completely sealed with no serviceable or upgradeable parts inside. So if you decide to bite the bullet, be sure to customize its guts to your heart's content from the get-go as no further change will be possible. This means CPU speed, amount of RAM and size of the solid state drive. Other external options, like the Superdrive, can be added later.
