I have a few questions. Hopefully, someone can help as I need to buy a new computer and want to be sure I can do the below.
I have a Toshiba Laptop M45 S269 and having been using a Nero 9 program to create Projects and then a DVD. So far, I have been successful in creating 5 smaller programs (w/images, audio files, but only 1 with a video one one of them). Now, however, I am creating a large one with 250+ images, 7 home videos (from my camera) and 10 audio files from my tape recorder, CDs and Itunes. I have gotten pretty far, but about 3 wks ago, intermittently. I was unable to burn the DVD (after I would do some edits to the Nero Vision .nvc file- I always burn and then check it on the TV dvd-player.)
Nero TechSupp finally told me that it is because my processor is "too weak". I have an Intel Pentium M 740 processor with 2048 megs cache and runs at a FSB of 533. (A Toshiba superuser told me I could upgrade to a faster CPU but for the price (I would have to have it done professionally), it would be better to get a new computer). So, I looked at an Apple at Best Buy and think I will go with that (Imovie and Idvd).
1. BUT, I want to be sure that I can transfer over my Nero Program (Nero 9 v9.4.26 (Nero Vision v. 6.4.17) to the new Apple computer and that I will be able to bring up the program and continue to complete it. (Once I get it finished, I will start using Imovie & IDVD).
Does anyone know if this can be done with NO problems. (I will want Geek Squad to do it and I understand that I will have to pay for it).
JIC- To bring up the Nero Vision project will mean that all of my pictures, audios and videos which are in my laptop, and part of the Nero Vision (.nvc) file, will also have to go over and be in the same directories because the .nvc file is only a link. (This was what the Nero superuser said but I have been given bogus info already from him, so want to be sure.)
2. I also want to transfer all of my other programs over. I have, TaxCut, Itunes, Paint Shop Pro7, Canon ZoomBrowswer, Memorex exPressit, Real Player and some SW to transfer my old cassettes and lps (Audacity etc). And, of course, my printers - HP, Epson & Brother.
In other words, I want to be sure this all can be done before I buy the Apple.

1. That's a 17" display, with a decent display resolution. Weighs in at 7lbs so not that bad.
2. This has 6 And it's DDR3.

4. This is a top of the line mobile processor, well, not cutting edge, but it's pretty dang nice. A quad core(with hyper threading) at 2.8GHz per core.
5. The ATI M5870 is a very nice card.
6. Is four enough? You can always get a hub.
7. DVD R/W is standard on 99% of new computers right now.
8. Ditto.
9. That's the only down side when looking for a powerful laptop, battery life. This one's rated for 2.5 hours. Which is about the standard for high end 17" laptops.
10. This shouldn't be a problem. You may have to look into some compatibility with Windows 7 64bit, but I've yet to have any major problems with my own.

12. Win7 makes home networking VERY easy. "Transferring" programs doesn't work, usually. Fresh installation is the best option.
13. Norton is alright, though, I will strongly recommend upgrading to their newest version (2011) as they've made vast improvements in their suite.
So, the laptop was $1300. A GSBTP will be around $200(if you opt for it), this would also not be inclusive of the data transfer/software installs/accessories.
That's my first find. Lemme look some more. The next one will be a bit cheaper. Just wanted to throw this out there as a "top choice".

You can install the new hard disk yourself if you want to. You just need a 2'5" SATA II hard drive, which is compatible with your MacBook Pro. You can buy one at OWC > http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/hard-drives/2.5-Notebook/ You can filter hard drives by computer, so press a "Click to view all...", choose your computer in the sidebar and it will give you the compatible hard drives.
There are different brands for the MacBook Pro. The most recommended are HGST and Seagate, which have good reputation. A 7200 rpm hard drive will give you extra performance -

You can't from Apple, they don't let you buy iTunes gift cards with an Apple Store gift card. You could see if a different store in your country might let you (though they possibly won't), or try selling the card to somebody e.g. family, friend, eBay etc

Where can I buy a genuine apple replacement battery (A1309) for my Mid 2010 17" Macbook Pro? There are used batteries on ebay that don't appear genuine. There are some third-party knock offs. The apple store seems to believe they can replace it, but I have to make a reservation at the silly Genius Bar just to have them tell me how much it's gonna cost, not to mention then likely wait for them to order the battery and install it. I'm perfectly capable of installing it myself. I just need to know where I can order it?

AndrewYeah, that's what I've finally decided. I was kidna super frustrated because the first apple store I called wouldn't even tell me a price or tell me if they could replace the battery without a Genius Bar appointment, and as I would have to take off work and drive acros town--and I don't have a car so I'd have to borrow one--that was pretty annoying. That call left me pricing linux laptops. I called another store to see if I'd have better luck, and the initial answer was the same, but the girl relented under some trying-to-be-nice-but-clearly-annoyed pressure, and she gave me the answers I needed: yes, they should have the battery in stock and it should be a same-day replacement that should cost $179.
It just *****, really, because there's so much about Apple that I used to love, and I'm watching it kinda melt away under their success in the mobile market. As a professional user, there's less and less reason to stick with them. Instead of being the best they can be, I feel like they're just trying to be flashier and just a little better than the other mediocre computer companies. Ugh. Anyway, now I'm ranting.

I know this might seem like a very basic question, but it's sometimes the easiest questions that take the longest to answer, so let me give you some back story to my problem. Currently, I'm using the (Terrible) Lenovo Thinkpad T410, but I need to upgrade, and thought the 21.5" 2.9GHz iMac would be the perfect investment. I'm currently in College learning about various forms of digital design and marketing, and need a computer with an amazing screen. Since I don't have enough money for the Retina Macbook Pro, The new iMac is the best alternative in my books. So, I've been saving up my money and have just arrived at the amount of money I need (1,800$ taxes included), and I want to go buy it. I don't have a credit card, so I need to pay in cash. Anyways, I went to my local Apple store (Carrefour Laval) today, and they said they didn't have any in stock. Great. They said it could take up to 5 days for them to a recieve a shipment, but they can't say for sure. Amazing. Later on, I called them to see if they could give me a date where I could come in and pick one up (as in a guarunteed purchase), but they said they couldn't help me, and I should just call in advance. Beautiful. So, I did some Googling and found out that you can reserve products through the Apple store application. I downloaded it and found out that yes, you can reserve most products, BUT not the iMac. Wonderful. I went onto the Apple Online Store website where they have a chat box to see if that "person" can help me at all. The "person" said she understood why I was angry and just redirected me to the Apple Online Store. Genius. So, here I am, money-in-hand, but no way to buy the iMac. What should I do? I also went to various other electronic dealers in my area and they were also out of stock. Yay. Is there some way I can find out when they'll have it in stock without calling them every day, hoping for a yes?
TLDR: I want to buy a 21.5" 2.9GHz New iMac, but don't have a credit card (Can't buy online). I want to pay with cash, but my local store never has it in stock. Any tips on how I can get one without having to call them everyday?

3 problems: 1) I can't buy anything online. Quite honestly, I think you need to go back to Flash 10.3.183.90, a version that was kept alive specifically for WinXP users. The Flash 11 and later versions have a separate plugin container that isn't available for anything below Win Vista with feature you can't even use. I see no advantage to anything newer and on the down side the newer versions are a lot more likely to crash frequently.
First, grab the Adobe uninstaller from here:

Then download Flash 10.3.183.90 from here - about halfway down the page:

IMO, the best version of Flash for WinXP. Adobe kept up with security updates for 10.3 for WinXP users long after Flash 11.0 came out in 2011 for Vista and newer versions of Windows.
Run the uninstaller, then reboot your operating system.
Then you can run the Flash installer, with Firefox closed, of course.

A song is marked Purchased but I cannot download it nor can I buy it again
Before I write anything else, I want it to be known that I did contact Apple Support and they were not helpful in solving my problem - all they did was issue me iTunes credit for two songs, of which I still do not have. I keep looking for the credit and it's not there. Even if I did have the credit, it wouldn't do any good because I cannot purchase the song in question because it is marked as "Purchased"
So the issue. Earlier this year, I bought the single "Hunting for Pearls" by iamamiwhoami. Few months later, the pre-order for their album BLUE was available and I went ahead and pre-ordered it. The song "Tap Your Glass" became available, if that's any help. A few more tracks became available as they were released as singles. November 10 was the album's release date. The rest of the album became available, including the first single "Fountain" of which I had also bought as a single when it was released early this year.
The only track that did not download on any of my devices was "Hunting for Pearls". I was not charged for this track, by the way. As of today, I am unable to download this track. It is marked as "Purchased" so I can't buy it again. I cannot download it either because iTunes thinks that the single version is the album track.
I am going to delete the single from iTunes and see if that works. I deleted the single from iTunes, logged off, rebooted, and same thing. I went ahead and redownloaded the stupid single.
Yeah, I know that I can just change the album artwork and the album name and whatnot, but those changes aren't saved in iCloud, so if I needed to download the album onto another device, I'd have the same problem. I pre-ordered the WHOLE album, and I should have gotten the whole album and I should have been charged for the whole album. At this point, I'd happily pay the extra $1.29 because I am clearly super anal, but it won't let me!Hey locket64,

so im trying to buy logic pro and just recently put enough money in gift cards on my account but every time i click buy app and go to billing info and then click ok it just shoots me to the first screen and did not charge for app how can i buy it ?
This may sound stupid, but I'm gonna throw it out there anyway. Is it possible, that if I have enough junk on my desktop it might disrupt the signal? It seems odd, but it kind of looks like my signal is strong and relatively steady now that I've cleaned my desktop. I do tend to get very cluttered. I use a lot of reference images and save text clippings to use later... it just piles up very quickly.
So, I wonder if all that extra effort my system has to do keeping up with the junk might have something to do with the drop outs? -

Have you redeemed your iTunes card to an account associated with an Apple ID?
Once you have your iPad associated with an Apple ID AND you have an account with a credit card associated with the same Apple ID AND you have some 'store credit' (from redeeming your iTunes card) then purchases use the store credit before they charge the credit card, so you should be ok!
Personally, I use 'store credit' as a way to monitor whether or not there have been any 'unauthorised' purchases because as soon as the store credit is zero, the security code from the credit card is needed for further purchases! It does mean that I have sometimes to top up store credit before making a purchase, but 'better safe than sorry'!
