Can I buy Tiger now (jan 08)

My ibook G4 just isn't fast or good enough (sorry guys at Apple) for Leopard so I'm wondering if I can buy a cheap Tiger OS from somewhere.
I'm in Mexico but my daughter could buy me one in UK.

Be sure you purchase the correct discs! Here is some additional info.
Tiger is available for purchase at The Apple Store (U.S.).
If your Mac meets the Leopard System Requirements. Leopard 10.5.x, can also be purchased at The Apple Store (U.S.).
If you know what to look for, a Full Retail Version, of the Tiger Install DVD, can also be purchased, sometimes less expensively, at some online Apple retailers, Amazon, eBay, FastMac, HardCore Mac, AllMac, etc.
This is the correct one Mac OS X 10.4.6 Tiger, (DVD) Retail at FastMac.
At HardCore Mac, it's even more expensive.
Both are more expensive, than The Apple Store (U.S.).
Be sure not to purchase grey, upgrade or machine specific CDs or DVDs.
Tiger and Leopard are on DVD.
The discs should look exactly like the images in the above links, and not say Upgrade, CPU Drop-in DVD, or "This software is part of a hardware bundle purchase - not to be sold seperately." on them.

You should call Apple but you should get an email from Apple. I got one a few minutes ago and this is what they said about AppleCare+ :

Hi pretty straightforward question - I have an emac, 1ghz, 256mb- I need to upgrade to tiger so i can work home access via citrix but needs minimum of Tiger. I cannot get leopard as my specs on my Mac arent good enough but cannot find anywhere to buy tiger as its now outdated - i live in Toronto- any recommendations very welcome (apart from get a new mac thanks!)

You have to be careful which Tiger Install Disks you buy, there are many Machine specific gray colored ones.
Ebay seems the best.
You can easily add more RAM & run Leopord though...

Here are images of the Full Retail Version, of the Tiger Install DVD, that must be used.
The discs should look exactly like the images in the above links, and not say Upgrade, CPU Drop-in DVD, or "This software is part of a hardware bundle purchase - not to be sold seperately." on them.
Although those are available at the other online retailers, like Amazon, eBay, FastMac, HardCore Mac, AllMac, etc., notice that, the correct one Mac OS X 10.4.6 Tiger, (DVD) Retail at FastMac, is $159.95, And at HardCore Mac, it's $199.99.
The other retailers' prices are comparable, to those quotes.
Both are more expensive, than The Apple Store (U.S.)'s $129.00.

If any are presently available, examine these items very carefully, and if in doubt, ask questions of the seller before purchase!

As Texas Mac Man posted, there are Tiger 10.4.x Cds available at FastMac, but the price is $179.95.

So... Can I buy MBP now?

Hello everyone,
So, I have made up my mind and decided to invest into newly 2.16GHz, 1GB RAM, 256VRAM, 100GB MBP (this is not a built-to-order, but a stock one from the Apple store). I will go to buy it sometimes next month. And after days and hours searching and reading a lots of threads here, may I ask you the following questions:
1. Should I buy the MBP at this moment or should I wait for a while. I definitely need computer for my job but 1 or 2 months I can wait. I guess the machine got some problem when it was first launched, but now is about more than 1/2 year later so...
2. The MBP SuperDrive is also my big concern. Does Apple improve something on it by now or it is still picky on old or other media such as old and burnt CDs/DVDs I have had before with my PB 15"?
3. As far as Universal appl. concern, I assume that I can stay with the Rosetta for those are not Universal. But on the top of it, does anyone hadve bad experience with Photoshop CS2, Microsoft Office 2004 for MAC, some chat program and some browser, like Firefox?
Thank you very much for any story, any advice and I am waiting to hearing from you in order to buy the new MBP.

Well of course, nobody is making you purchase a MBP, so you can purchase whenever you want to! Would it be wise to purchase now? According to reports that I've read and my own personal experience, I can say that the problems such as the CPU whine, mooing, and heat (but to a lesser extent, I'll admit) do still exist and people have been reporting these issues on computers that are as new as week 21! However, problems on newer models seem to be more widespread, but keep in mind that beauty, and ugliness, are in the eye of the beholder...
If you can wait, it certainly wouldn't hurt. Even if Apple are still using the Core Duo chips in 1-2 months, you might be able to get a free speed bump out of the deal or, if they decide to slap in the Merom chips ASAP, waiting could grant you a cooler, hopefully problem-free Core 2 Duo chip. Of course, others will say that you can wait forever as computers are constantly being outdated and updated by new technology. But to be honest, looking back on my own experience, getting a Rev A machine has been a mistake and I probably should've waited for the Core 2 Duo chip. (My circumstance and method for obtaining an MBP were slightly different and I didn't have much of a choice, but I do miss my PB now...)
As for the SuperDrive, I can say with confidence that it burns my audio CDs just fine. Outside of that, I can't comment because I've never burned a DVD in my life!
PPC app performance with Rosetta is okay, but definitely bulk up on the RAM to make it closer to "snappy". Despite high clock speed, a second core, and more RAM, MS Office was by far more responsive and smooth on my PowerBook and I do encounter the beach ball every so often on my MBP as I type. I've actually had to slow down my typing on occasion to allow Rosetta to "catch up". Not really a huge problem though. Also, web browsers shouldn't be too much of a concern especially since the Mozilla group has released Universal versions of their browsers, or at least Camino. I use it instead of Safari and its great; same concept as Firefox but with more of a Mac look and feel.
As a disgruntled MBP owner, my advice is to wait and see what the future holds. If nothing else, it might at least bring some type of official fix for the CPU whine from Apple, whether it be a logic board exchange or a firmware update. And at the very worst, you lose nothing and can still buy the same machine in two months that you could've today.

We are experiencing this sudden error now too. Up until last night, we were accessing our Cart. But, then after adding one more song and deleting some from the cart, we got the error and cannot access the account from any machine. In addition to this one, we have a brand new iMAC "24, dual Intel; a PowerBook G4, and a Gateway Laptop running XP. None of the machines can access this Cart. Our other iTunes account is fine, without problem. But, this account's cart is inaccessible. I can find no solution.

It depends where you live. In some countries, Apple provides credit (0% for 10 months in the UK for instance) from its online store.

Many big (non-Apple) retailers also offer their own financing deals. So, yes it most definately is possible to buy a Mac and pay for it monthly.

Newsstand is NOT just iBooks for magazines. Apple states that "...as new issues become available, Newsstand automatically updates them in the background..." This is a big deal. A lot of people, myself included, are sick of having to open up each newspaper and magazine app each time we want to update it, especially when we don't want to read that issue right then. Now we will be able to walk out the door with our iPad and have the latest issues of all of our papers and magazines that are on/in Newsstand without having to update anything manually.
Zinio is garbage in my opinion. I hope newsstand and the hopefully soon to be enforced in-app subscription requirement puts them out in the cold.

If Apple only sells AppleCare+ in your country, then no, sorry, it's too late now. If Apple still sells the older AppleCare plan that lacks accidental-damage coverage, then you should be able to buy coverage until one year after you purchased the iPhone.

Even a four-year-old MacBook should have come with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard. Leopard can run the latest version of iTunes; it will download and install pretty much automatically if you run Software Update.
You might first have to be sure that you are running the latest version of Leopard, which is 10.5.8. This, too, will download and install for you if you run Software Update. Just keep running Software Update until there is nothing left to download and install (you might have to run it more than once because some updates require previous updates to be installed first).
If you have a version of Mac OS X earlier than 10.5, then you can't run the latest version of iTunes. You will need to buy a more recent version of Mac OS X. You must be running at least 10.4 Tiger, and you can upgrade directly to Snow Leopard from Tiger. Apple still sells Snow Leopard for about $30 and you might find it slightly less at a retailer or on eBay. After upgrading to Snow Leopard, you will be able to upgrade to Lion using the Mac App Store for another $30 or so if your MacBook meets the minimum system requirements.
