Can I cancel my data plan?

For a smartphone that is on a month-to-month contract, can I cancel my data plan that I no longer need, and keep the voice & text plans?  Or do I need to switch phones?  Or switch carriers?

if you have a smart phone you need some sort of data package.   however if your month to month they have special discounts for you   what plan are you on and what are you payinbg?
you could get the 500 mb plan for 20 bucks, unl talk and text,  line access of 40 minus 15 month to month discount.   45 dollars a month for a cell is not bad

    This should answer your question:
"If you purchase a higher-tier storage plan for your iCloud account to replace your existing storage plan (for example, a 20 GB plan to replace a 10 GB plan), the existing plan will be canceled and you will receive a prorated refund for the time remaining. The new storage plan is applied to your iCloud account and the annual payment date is updated to reflect the purchase date for the new plan." - https://support.apple.com/kb/HT4874

  • Cancelling iPad data plan

    Hi folks,
I've seen all sorts of odd things about how to go about cancelling a data plan for my iPad.  I called customer service and got yet a different set of answers.  So...
If I want to finish out the current month and cancel at that point what do I do?
Apparently there is a "suspend" option and a "cancel" option.  I've seen people claim here that cancelling an account means you'll need to get a new SIM card.  True?
I've also seen it posted here that suspending an account may result in them restarting your service without you asking them to do so.  True?
The lady I spoke with at customer service said that suspending the account was a more permanent action and should only be done if the device was lost or broken.  True?
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4572 indicates that I need to cancel the account, which seems overkill as I'd like to reactive it later.  Will I be able to do so just as easily as when I first activated it?
Anything else I should know about turning off the data service?
    Thanks,
    Mark

        Hey there Mark1267,
I am saddened to hear that you are thinking about cancelling the data plan on your account.  We appreciate your continued support and would like to continue our relationship. What has you thinking of cancelling?
To answer your questions I would first need to find out if you are on a prepaid or postpaid account?  Which iPad are you currently using?
When you disconnect service, the disconnect date is set to the end of the bill cycle by default.
If you are on a postpaid account there is a suspend option.  If you would like to suspend service and billing you would want to suspend the device with billing.  Since you plan on reactivating it later this may be your best option.  This will suspend service and billing for 90 days.  The service will reconnect on the 91st day but you have the option to resuspend for another 90 days for a total of 180 days in a calender year.  This allows you to suspend and reconnect as needed.  This will extend our your customer agreement for the amount of days you leave the line suspended but if your iPad isn't under contract it will not effect that.  For more steps on suspending please visit http://vz.to/10j0Iv2.
I know this is a lot of information Mark, so please let me know if you have additional questions.

How can I change my data plan and backdate to beginning of this billing cycle

That's a great question GregTho! If you change your plan online, you can select the option to backdate, future date or on demand, (meaning, today). Please let us know if this works.

  • How can I cancel a data pack?

Now that Extra Data is available, you can no longer add or change your data pack, you can only remove it. You can remove your data pack via your mobile device, through My Account or by chatting to one of our agents online.
How to cancel your data pack from your mobile
Connect to My Plan Manager portal by typing telstra.com/mpm into your mobile's browser
Click on the 'My tab' at the top of the screen to see information on My Plan Manager
Select 'My Data Usage' then 'Data Packs' and select ‘cancel your Data Pack‘.
If you need any further assistance with your data pack you can chat with us online.
How to cancel your data pack via My Account
    Log into My Account
Select Plans & usage for your mobile service
Select Buy add-ons then ‘Remove your data pack’
Once you cancel your Data Pack you will not be able to buy another one. If you need more data you can find out more about Extra Data.

Re: How can I add, change or cancel a data pack?
This information says that you can downgrade your data pack online but you CANT!!! I do not want to spend hours watching my phone in order to have a 'chat'. I won't buy extra data in future if it is going to be this HARD! I will just turn my internet OFF!

  • Lost ipad - Need to cancel recurring data plan

Surely there is a way to cancel the dataplan that is automatically charged to my debit card each month? ?? I no longer have the Ipad so I cannot cancel the plan using Settings, and I don't know what the device number was as the Ipad is gone. I continue to get charged $20/mo. I bought a new Ipad and added the plan to my cellphone account sharing a pool of data. So the new ipad is on a 2 year contract. But I continue to get charged for data for an old Ipad I no longer have in my possession. When I called, three Verizon people told me that without the Ipad acct number, I am out of luck and they cannot cancel the plan and they can't look up my number using my debit card number or name. How ridiculous is that? They said I had to have my bank stop payment on the charges. I want Verizon to stop charging for data I cannot use on a device I cannot access because I no longer own it!
Called my bank and they cannot stop the charges because it is a debit card charge. They could if it was a debit through clearinghouse, but not debit card. I do not want to cancel my debit card and get a whole new one. It seems to me Verizon could cancel this recurring data charge for a device I no longer own. Isn't there a way to do this?

There is no "bill". The Ipad was on a recurring data plan...pay as you go. There was no contract, so no "billing". The Verizon representatives told me that if I could not cancel the debit using "Cellular Data" under the "General" settings on the Ipad (which is where I set it up) then, they cannot cancel it and they will charge me for the rest of my life...or until my debit card expires in two years. My bank cannot stop this re-curring charge because it is a debit withdrawal. All they can do is close the account and open a new one. It is ridiculous that Verizon is telling me that they have no way to find out which account the $20 they they take from me each month is going to. Can someone hlep?

  • Can't keep old data plan?

My daughters droid "smart" phone died so we put her number on an older "dumb" phone we had from previous upgrades until she can afford to buy a new smartphone. While talking to customer service I was told that she can't keep her old unlimited data plan when she gets her new phone that she has to switch to 2G plan. I don't understand why this is since had her phone not died she would still have the unlimited plan. Why?

Good afternoon and thank you for all of your replies.  This is a really good question, and I will gladly clarify the answer, as there seems to be a lot of different responses.
You are able to change back the unlimited data plan from a non-Smartphone within 14 days of removing it.  Once the 14 days have passed, there is no way to go back to the unlimited data and you will have to choose from our current pricing.  Therefore, if your daughter will be replacing her Smartphone within 14 days, she will be able to have the unlimited data plan.
I trust this information is helpful.
    Thank you,

  • Can somebody clarify the data plans for me?

My wife and I are looking to get our first Droids and I have some questions about the data plan.
Does the 150MB allowance refer only to downloading/uploading or will we be charged for, say, listening to the radio online? Does playing Farmville count towards the allowance? What about GPS? I looked around the Verizon site but can't find any clear explanation of the data plans.
    Thanks!

Any time you transmit or recieve data on Verizon's network, you will be assessed usage against your 150MB allowance on that plan.  That means that any time you send information to, or download information from the internet, you will be using your allowance.  This includes activities like playing games online (Farmville) and listening to the radio online.  Both of those activities are fairly data intensive, and if you plan to do them more than 1-2 times a month for a short amount of time, you should consider the unlimited data plan.
GPS does not use data in and of itself, but most programs that utilize GPS, like navigation programs, or apps that help you identify businesses/restaurants/attractions nearby will use data when they download that information.
If you are online and you are NOT connected to a Wifi network, you are using data.

  • Can I cancel my phone plan and just use iphone for wifi?

I'm trying to save money, and I really only need to user phone for online access while traveling or as a GPS. What can I do to use this phone only for wifi?

If you want to use it (without a data plan) as a GPS, you'll need to purchase a navigation app that has built-in maps.  Navigon is one, although I can't recommend it.  Google for reviews of others.

I have the original iPad with the unlimited data plan, and I was wondering if I could transfer that plan to have unlimited 4G LTE (for the same price).

Yes, you are grandfathered in. That's from AT&T.

  • How can I switch a data plan from one line to another?

I have 5 lines on my account in a Nationwide Family Plan. I have a question about these two lines:
    A: Smartphone, 2GB Data
    B: Smartphone, 4GB Data Promo
Line A has been using about 3GB every month due to no wifi access, while Line B uses less than 1.5 GB a month as they work from home.
I can't see upping Line A's data as the next available tier is the 5GB for $50/month, and there is literally no way I would ever consider a Share Everything plan, they are just too expensive for my needs (i have unlimited on my line and use 5-9GB a month)
Is there any way I can swap the data between the two phone numbers? Or just switch the phone numbers between the two phones? I can always swap the SIM's myself (they are 4G devices).
Thank you for any input you may have!

Your suggestion is to trade phone numbers. For example your example is Mom has XXX-555-1111 and Dad has XXX-555-2222. They would have change to Mom with the 2222 number and Dad with the 1111 number. All their contacts would have to call a new number to get that person.
For the OP to keep the numbers associated with the original person (Mom-1111 & Dad-2222) it isn't possible to switch phone numbers associated with a specific line's contract and features.
