Can I capture a still image from a quicktime movie?

Can I capture a still image from a quicktime movie?

Yes. But how you do it depends on your version of quicktime.
If you have the pro version, you can easily use the "Export" option to output the video as a series of images.
For the basic version of quicktime, or if you want to quickly take make a still image of a single frame, you could just use the "Grab" application in OSX to take a screen shot.

I'll assume you want to create a still to use outside FCPX, not a still frame within FCPX.  It's kinda hidden in the "share."  Go File/Share/Add Destination.  You want "Save Current Frame."  After you've created that destination, it'll be there for you in the future under Share.

  • Capturing Still Frames from a QuickTime Movie

    1. Can I capture still frames from a QT Movie file using QuickTime 7?
    2. If not can I do it with QuickTime Pro?
      Windows XP

QuickTime Pro can "Export" a still frame to various image formats.
Just position the playhead on the frame you wish to export. Use the right-left arrow keys to "step" through frames.
You can get a larger sized export by enlarging the Player window.

  • Is it possible to extract a full VR panorama  image from a QuickTime movie?

I have created several panoramas - usually 180 to 230 degrees each - and saved them in QuickTime mov format. Is it possible to export/extract the full image from the .mov as a JPG, or TIF(F)using QuickTime Pro or some other program? The QuickTime Viewer does not show the entire image in one shot. As with all virtual reality, the viewer can pan around - up, down, left, right - the image. I want the entire image exported as one piece.
Thanks in advance for your kind assistance.
    Rick

I don't know if that software exists. I do know that QuickTime can only export the "frame" currently in the Player window.
Best method to de-construct a QuickTime VR file is with the software that created it.

  • In iMovie '09, how can I capture a still picture from the video?

I have a movie that i got into iMove and I did edit it down and make a nice video from it I uploaded to YouTube. I want to know if there is any easy way to get stills from the video. when I run my cursor over the movie and get it on a person that I want to make into a still photograph is there a way to get that single piece out?
If I locate the part of the film I want as a still then try and do a screen capture, when i move the cursor to do the capture the pic in the movie changes as I move the cursor. (hope i'm making sense).
So is there a way to grab a single frame?
    Susan

Two ways to get a still:
    1) In project, move cursor to the frame. Right-click/add freeze frame. The Freeze frame is placed right behind the current clip in the project.
    2) Select a frame in an Event. Right-click/Add still frame to project. The still is added to the project at the end.
(after doing either 1 or 2, continue with step 3)
    3) Right-click on the still frame in your project. Select "Reveal in Finder". Drag the JPEG file that you see and drop it on the iPhoto icon in the Dock.
Hint: You can create a new project just for the stills. This way you will not clutter up an existing project.

  • I need to capture a 300 dpi still image from my film to send to a magazine, how can I do that? Thank you.

I am trying to capture the still image and it comes as 72 dpi. I need the 300 dpi for a magazine.
Some places suggests that I transfer it to 300 dpi using photoshop. But the best is to go from the original.
Can someone help me with this?
I have shoot my video using a canon 5d
    Thank you,
    Betty

Video does not have dpi. Pixel size is fixed. dpi is a print function. The only way to create 300dpi is to use scaling in Photosop or to use a dedicated application like PhotoZoom Pro, which is what I have always used for my books to create high resolution print images of screen shots.

When I capture a still frame froma video in Llightroom 4.3, where does the captured frame end up? I cannot find it. Stan

It will be right next to the movie in your library and the jpg file will end up on your hard disk right next to the movie file. You can see the actual file by right (or control) clicking on the image in the library view and selecting "show in Finder/Explorer"

  • Is there a way to create a still image from video in either imovie or iphoto?  I want to add an arrow to an imovie and so far have not had any luck but I'm thinking I might be able to add an arrow to a photo and then incorporate it into the movie.

I'm still trying to point out a location in an imovie with an arrow.  I thought I might be able to insert an arrow in a still photo from the imovie and then reinsert the photo in the movie but my attempts at capturing a still frame from a video in imovie or iphoto haven't worked so far.  Any ideas any one???

First, get an app called MPEG Streamclip, which is free. You can find it by googling MPEG Streamclip Squared 5.
    Open MPEG Streamclip.
In iMovie, select the clip you need. Then, right-click/Reveal in Finder.
Drag this clip into MPEG Streamclip
In MPEG Streamclip, move the playhead to the frame you want.
In MPEG Streamclip, click FILE/EXPORT FRAME.
Choose JPEG, TIFF, or PNG and give it a name.
Also, for how to add a pointer, try Karsten Schluter's website for a good post on how to do this.

  • How can I export a still picture from a video clip?

How can I export a still picture from a video clip?

I'm able to export stills from iMovie without anything extra. I create a new project - call it Exports say. Now, in your event clip with the frames you want as stills, select a single frame and drag it into your project. Repeat for other stills you want to export. Then choose Share -> Export Using QuickTime.
In the pop-up, choose Movie to Image Sequence. Click Options and choose the image format you want. Playing with the number of stills lets you pick how many stills you want from each second of video. Hit OK and the stills will be generated in the directory you choose.
I've only done this with HD video. Don't know how well it works with lower res, interlaced vid.

  • How can I extract a still picture from footage in iMovie, add text to it and print it ?

How can I extract a still picture from footage in imovie, add text to it and print it ?

Assuming you have iMovie 11 (also known as Version 9.0.4), here is how you do it. (If you have a different version, let me know. The instructions will be different).
First, get an app called MPEG Streamclip, which is free. (google MPEG Streamclip from Squared 5)
You can then use this photo in Photoshop, Pixelmator, Acorn, or the app of your choice to add text.
Here is a demo I made the other day for how to extract the still image using MPEG Streamclip.

I am unable to Import RAW still Images from a Nikon D 80 camera into
Premiere Pro. All jpeg images import Ok. A web search suggests I need "plug-ins" for RAW, but I can not find  same. Any suggestions as to how to inport RAW files to PP CS 4 would be appreciated. I have just updated from Premiere Elements 4 which had no problem importing RAW still images.
    Roygo

The way I see it (correct me if I'm wrong) but Raw is supposed to be where you have total editing control of the shot (as opposed to the camera). I believe the next step is to do the editing (i.e. color balance, exposure, etc) then make a regular image from that to use in whatever output you desire (print, web, etc.) Think of raw as the negative. Just being in raw doesn't in it self make it better.
Edit. This is from premiere help files....
Supported still‑image and sequence file formats
Adobe Premiere Pro supports 8-bit per-channel (4 bytes per pixel) and 16-bit per-channel (8 bytes per pixel) still-image files. It converts images with lower bit-depths to 8-bits per channel and images with higher bit-depths to 16-bits per channel on import. High bit-depth files are supported at one single-precision float per channel (16-bytes per pixel).

  • Dragging a large still image from the browser into the viewer crashes FCP

Okay, I've not seen this problem until just a couple days ago but was wondering if it was just me or if everyone has this problem? I've found a work-around, but let me explain the problem first.
I'm creating a growing up photo montage. I scanned all of the pictures myself at 300 dpi (as I've always done in the past) and saved them as TIF files. Some pictures as relatively small, i.e. 3.5 mb is size and do just fine, but it appears anytime I drop a picture into the viewer in preparation for the the timeline, it will crash FCP if the image file is any larger than about 5 or 5.5 MB. Now I know there is a limit on the resolution of a still and it shouldn't be any larger than 4000 pixels in either direction, but that is not my problem, the problem appears to occur with large files. I've used large still files before in past projects without any problem, so this is why I'm stumped. I've went as far as trashing my preferences, but that didn't change anything. I've even tested a still image from a past project that was something around 9 MB (or was it 19 mb?) in any case, it also crashed FCP but... I've used that picture before in past projects without any problem. I even created a new test project just in case my project file itself had a problem.
My work-around is to simply drop the still image from the browser directly into the timeline, thus bypassing the viewer. This works every time without a hitch. I can even double-click on the still now setting in the timeline to load it into the viewer so I can add effects or keyframes or whatever without any problems (thank goodness). So, has anyone else experienced this problem or is it just me?

Is this image saved in a colorspace mode that is anything other than RGB?
CMYK & Grayscale images will cause problems.
Some light reading regarding your choice of 300 dpi: http://www.scantips.com/no72dpi.html
Unless you plan on panning and zooming your images, the best procedure is to use one of the video preset templates in Photoshop and paste your content into it. Scale and position using the Transform controls. For best results save as a TIFF without compression. Don't forget, always in RGB colorspace.

  • How do I capture a still photo from my video footage??

Probably easy I know, but just wondering how to capture a still photo from my video footage. I pulled a particular clip into my viewer window and have found the still shot I want, what next??

Put the playhead over the frame in the timeline and choose Modify>Make Freeze Frame. It will appear in the Viewer window. Drag it into the timeline.
If you want a photo for iPhoto etc. put the playhead over the frame and select File>Export>Using QuickTime Conversion.
In the window that opens change the "Format" setting to Still Image from the dropdown menu.
