Can i capture from an analog 16x9 source

Can i capture from an analog 16x9 HD source (SAT-TV) using analog (S-Video) output using a Canopus ADVC-100 into FCP 4.x and preserve the anamorphic aspect ratio? If so, how do I go about doing this (meaning, if this will even work - I'm fairly certain that the SAT box will output the 16x9 flag on s-video - what settings do i use in FCP to capture that aspect?
Thanx in advance.

actually i am allowed to record from TV... i'm using the analog to do this. HRA allows me to do this - There are plenty of units out there that have tivo and a dvd burner that are legal) - all I'm doing is using my mac. Remember the VCR? this is no different as I am not going digital to digital or bypassing any DRM. Not to mention, I'm taping some docs that aren't even avaialble to purchase. ;(
Also, its just for my personal use. Just to have an archive of the show.
I'm using sledgehammer erquipment to just archive a show.. hehe

  • Can't capture from my cannon video camera to Final Cut or iMovie.

Hi. I can't capture from my cannon video camera to FInal Cut or iMovie. ANy help would be greatly appreciated. I don't think my iMac is recognizing the camera. I was told I don't need a firewire, that USB would work if I'm just capturing. If I need a firewire what kind (the one I was sold didn't fit). I'm getting an "unable to locate external device message". Not sure of next steps to try. Thanks.

Forget USB for capturing from tape. USB is only for stills from a Tape Based camera.
    You require a firewire cable.
The camera connection end will be four pin and the Mac is nine pin to the 800 port.
Ask for a 9 to 4 pin firewire cable. Sounds like you have the wrong one as they can also be 4 to 4 or 4 to 6 pin!!
Also you will need the correct Easy Setup in FCE so FCE talk to the camera, exactly which one depends on what type of footage is being sent to FCE from the camera during capture.

  • CApturing from an HD DVR source

Does anyone know of a way, or equipment needed to capture HD footage from a HD-DVR source directly into FCP?

David, please read my original post. I am orchestrating this for the network, not vice-versa. "We" refers to the network and everyone who works here. I've been a full-time consultant for this network for sometime now and have increased the production several times over using the resources available. Alternate video is not yet a big profitable business, so budgets and resources remain limited (and should until sufficient revenue is generated). Limited resources often require creative means - i.e. "jerry rigging."
The original source is all analog (i.e. tape based, as you suggest), and all production is done by an outsourced company in a different building. For example, if we're airing a news program it is preferable that I create a production process that can capture segment by segment in an all digital workflow and publish to the networks web site, mobile partners, etc. while the show is still on air. If we wait for the original source, we have to wait for the show to end, the resulting tapes to be checked in a library, walk across the street to check them out of the library, walk back and encode the tape in real-time... This process takes hours and is significantly less efficient than an all digital production process. You can't encode and distribute much content using a tape based production process.
So, instead of arguing semantics I'd prefer to focus on the question at hand... do you have experience capturing or transferring video using HDDVR-to-Mac.

  • Can not capture from Sony HDV 1080i (recording in 60i)

    Hello
We are trying to capture from the above camera to a Mac Dual G5. We are using FinalCutPro 5.1.2. We are using a FireWire 400 cable to connect to the front of the computer (have also tryed back of Cinema Display). The footage was captured in HDV1080/60i, and we have tried the corresponding formats in Easy Setup (Basic, standard, Apple Intermediate).
The problem: we can control the camera from the Log and Capture windows, but when starting capture, no data is coming in, and the program therefor gives up after a few seconds (displaying a no data error message).
We have tried Batch and Now capture. We can log clips, and get the correct time code, but can not capture those clips due to the no data problem.

This is a good workaround for curing your camera recognition problem with FCP (if that's what it is):
First, check that your Easy Setup / Timeline / Camera or Deck Settings are all exactly the same, then making sure your camera or deck is in VTR mode, try to capture again.
FCP uses a different form of QT than iMovie for capturing, so if the camera works in iMovie (or if it's listed in System Profiler) but not FCP, it obviously means your Mac can see the VTR but FCP can't, so you need to do this QuickTime fix.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301852
Follow the instructions carefully and you should have things running in no time - it's quite safe but you must Trash the Receipts AND re-install QT from the link provided.
If the Camera / Deck isn't recognised by iMovie or System Profiler, try resetting the Firewire Bus . . . Turn off the Mac and disconnect the power and all Firewire cables. Leave it for 30 mins then connect back up.
Still not working? Try a different Firewire cable.
Failing all this, try resetting the PMU (Power Management Unit). The method varies from machine to machine, so visit the Apple site and search for it in support.
Don't use iMovie for capturing - it doesn't give you a timecode and that's very important.
Let us know how you get on!

  • How can i capture 6 differential analog in lines using PFI0 as a clock?

Alright here's my setup, i've got labVIEW 8.6.1; i'm using a PXI-6259 i've got 7 diff. analog in lines and a parity line sending parallel data into the 6259. I also have a "strobe" line, which is to be used as the clock. When sending the data on the analog lines into the 6259, the strobe will go high when there is valid data, and only when there is valid data. the width of the strobe is 330u seconds with a 170u second low between each pulse. there is a total of 368 pulses. i have the strobe line wired into the 6259 on pin 11 (PFI0). The data lines go valid 15u seconds before the strobe goes active, and remains valid for another 15u seconds after the strobe goes low. I'm trying to capture one sample on the analog-in lines for each strobe, put the values into an array, and translate them into ascii characters based on the data sheet for the piece of equipment i'm emulating. My daqassistant doing the capturing is timing out, and never showing any data out. is it because i'm using a digital trigger with analog diff. inputs? any ideas?
    thanks,
    Kris

I don't see the connection between your test vi and your actual setup.  If you have equipment sending data and the trigger, your vi only needs to configure one DAQ device.  Your test vi shows and AO and some POs.  Not sure what those are.  Look at the snippet below to see how it should be done with discrete DAQmx functions instead of an express vi.  This way you can see all of the settings.  What are you using for a clock source?  It should be on-board clock.  Make sure your rate is set correctly and your number of samples is set correctly.

  • Unable to initialize video deck, (can not capture from camera)

    Hello All,
I am using a quad core G5 and am trying to capture some footage into Final Cut Pro version 5.0. I have two Panasonic DVX 100B mini DV cameras. I normally capture with a JVC BR-DV3000 mini DV deck but it is currently not working. So I'm trying to capture using my camera.
I hooked my camera up to my computer via firewire and started final cut, When I click File > Log and capture a little window pops up that reads:
" Unable to initialize video deck. You may still log offline clips or use Capture Now"
I'm not sure why this box is appearing. When I click the capture now button, the Capture window pops up and then I press play on the video camera and the footage plays on the camera but the capture window remains black or empty. I have tried both cameras and two different firewire cables with the same results. I have also tried to restart the computer.
Can anyone shine some light on this situation?
Thank you so much for your help.
    Mike Wardynski

Are there any other firewire devices connected to your Mac?
Did you go into your easy setup and reselect the DV setting for the standard you are using?
Also sometimes, shutting down and restarting your Mac, after making these changes some times allows the new device to be recognized.
One other thing, the DV camera may have a menu setting that needs to be set for communication via firewire possibly?

  • Where I can change Capture from 16:9 to 4:3?

Im trying to capture in 4:3.. Im not a Pro here, but I need to switch back from 16:9 to 4:3.
    Any help I'll appreciate.

This is important. Please check item properties for the clip and for the sequence. Please give that information. The project is currently a bit of mess and needs to be straightened out, but without knowing what the media is and what you've done it's difficult to tell you the correct way to proceed.
It looks as if you have edited the material into the wrong format sequence. You have to edit the material into the new correct sequence. You then have to use the remove attributes functions on the clip in the new sequence it reset it back to its correct state. It would have been altered when it was placed into the incorrect sequence.
The material does look widescreen though. It looks though as if it's some non-standard format, or it's been edited into an HD sequence. Please provide the requested information.

  • ODI can not capture RRN (rowid)  in DB2/iSeries

HI, all . I found that we can not config ODI to get the RRN (rowid) when CDC by reading journal . Any idea ?

Hi, Thanks for your reply . it's great help .Please help me with these concerns :
    1. If ODI can capture missed transaction journal ,they must know the last journal 's information of a table .where these information stored ? In ODI Reposistory ?
2.For CDC , if the source database is restored by the backup set of yesterday .Can ODI re-synchronized these change to the target datase or we have re run Load data ?
4.For journalling in DB2 , If the changes are created by a mirror tool from another DB2 database , does these changes are recorded in native journal ?
3.We have a target table is partitioned by date time ranged , the data in the target table is OFFLINE if the data is <sysdate -90 .
The source table in DB2 is not partitioned , data is fully ONLINE , if there are some DML happend in the data which older than sysdate-90 in the source table , how can these change reflect to the target table ?
4.Can CDC installed in MySQL , we have several MySQL Database
    5. We would like to use native journal , not trigger in CDC for source database in DB2 . We found that there are some limitation of native journal , such as the number of primary key columns must be not exceed 16 .
For a given physical file( a table) in DB2 , it has the number of primary key 's column are 18 ( dued to the designed is created in 2000) , we found some error when declare primary key in source table in ODI Designer .
How can we overcome this limitation ?
6.Can ODI capture TRUNCATE command in DB2 source database ?

  • Final Cut Express won't allow me to capture from my vdo camera

I just loaded Final Cut Express HD on my Mac because I wanted to upgrade from IMOVIE. My Powerbook G4 had no problem capturing video with my Sony HDV 1080i video camera. But I can't get Final Cut Express HD to locate my camera at all no matter what "easy setup" setting I choose. But if I turn on IMOVIE, the program can capture from my video camera no problem. I know the firewire cable is hooked to the computer correctly & the camera is on & in the VTR mode. If anyone can help me identify this problem, I'd really appreciate it because I'm trying to begin a new video project & can't if I can't capture video. Thanks for helping.

Fritz from Technical support told me about a glitch in Final Cut Pro & Express HD that happens when you upgrade to Quicktime 7. He told me to go to this article: Link: http://www.info.apple.com/kbnum/n301852
and follow the instructions & it would fix my problem. It didn't & then of course I called tech support back & it was after hours. I still can't capture from my video camera but it works in IMOVIE. I removed Final Cut Express HD from my computer (even all the files in library/users, etc.) and then reinstalled it. It still gives me the same error even though I have my camera plugged in & turned on. It says unable to locate capture device. This is unbelievable. Hopefully I can get some help. Brian

  • I can't import from Itunes into FCP HD

got the capture done with bears hand NOW i can't get audio tune from Itunes to import it says can't recognize file or something like that.
    I have a powerbook G4 10.4.9 FCP HD 4.5
is this another case of the 10.4.9 and 4.5 being incompatable (the reason i can't capture from DVCPro)
If my motorcycles ran like this tuff I'd never get out of the garage! thanks for your help in advance. bRAD

It is songs purchased from iTunes that you cannot convert...and that we cannot explain how to convert. Even though YOU might use it for legal purposes, such as temp music or demo reels, we still cannot explain how to bypass DRM on Apple's own site. Doing so would violate their rules.
BUT...if you have a CD of the music, getting songs is much easier:
#5 Imported music from CD or iTunes
    Shane's Stock Answer #5:
To get music into FCP, it needs to be an AIFF file at 48khz, 16 bit stereo. So if you want a song from a CD, you go into the iTunes Preferences and set this up under the IMPORTING tab:
File > preferences > importing > import using - AIFF encoder > Setting - Custom
    Sample Rate - 48.000 kHz
    Sample size - 16 bit
    Channels - Stereo
If you have an mp3 that you want to use, then you can convert it thru iTunes as well.
If the piece of music you want to use is something you purchased thru iTunes, I'm afraid I can't help you there. There are copywrite issues that prevent files from being converted into the format that FCP can recognize.

  • Capturing from a Canon HV20 for CS5.5 on a Mac

    Hi everyone,
Never had this problem on any version of the CS system and now all of a sudden I can't capture from the Canon HV20 anymore.  It keeps telling me to check the settings but they all seem ok.
    Any ideas?
    Many thanks
    Jo

Mark, by any chance in your interviews, did you use a combination of mikes on 2 different channels? For example, did you use a boom on one channel and a lav on the other? If so, and you are importing as stereo, you might be having phase problems between the two mikes, making it sound weak. Try turning off stereo pair under the modify pulldown and turn one of the tracks off.
    Does that improve thinga?
Of course you might just have had an idiot for an engineer...

  • Capturing from an Internal DVD player

    Hi,
I'm using a MacBook Pro & FCE 3.5. Is it possible to capture using my laptop's internal DVD player or can I only capture using an external DVD player hooked up with firewire?
    Thanks,
    Lisa

You can't capture from any DVD player without converting the material. It's in completely the wrong format. You can use MPEG Streamclip to convert the material to QuickTime with the DV codec.

  • Sentence SQL can be captured

Sentence SQL can be captured from a form since the form that I have been able to recover does like the following example.
    DELETE FROM provincia WHERE ROWID=:1
    pardon by my english
    INSERT INTO provincia(CODPRO,NOMPRO) VALUES (:1,:2)
SELECT CODPRO,NOMPRO FROM provincia WHERE ROWID=:1 FOR UPDATE OF CODPRO NOWAIT
    SELECT ROWID,CODPRO,NOMPRO FROM provincia
UPDATE provincia SET CODPRO=:1,NOMPRO=:2 WHERE ROWID=:3
When doing update, insert or delete from sql*plus or SQLPlus Worksheet if it recovers the complete syntax
    insert into provincia values(78, 'Zamora')
    I am working with
    oracle 8.1.7
    forms 6i

TOAD from quest comes with a program that monitors the sql being submitted from just about anything running client server on your local pc. It will give u the complete sql with the values for the bind variables. If you have toad, look for a program called SQLMonitor.exe where toad is installed.

  • Image capture from avi vfw device can't find video modes

    Hello
Here my issu, i have implemented image capture from a video device using jmf 2.1.1e performancepack, using a webcam everything is fine but when i use the video capture source i want to use i can only work with format 720x480 pal and i require 720x576 pal.
jmf seem not to reconize video format from this source, but the video is correcty displayed and image correctly captured. I'm surprised it is half working:decoding&render is ok to but not format choice.
I have check it is not because i'm in ntsc mode (ntsc is 720x480) because my analogic source is pal and color are correct (if with device software i change to ntsc mode i have a black&with but using jmf i'm in color so i'm in pal mode)
Difference bettween the webcam and my device is that my device is an avi encoder so in jmf webcam is javax.media.format.YUVFormat and my device com.sun.media.format.AviVideoFormat
    i have tried many thing:
install codec pack (divx6, another codec pack)
    try to use Fobs4JMF
    register in JMStudio IBMdecoder, jffmpeg
    Tanks for any help
the device support many configuration UYVY 235x288 352x576 .... 720x576 but JMF offer only 1 video mode for this device.

I miss information on what to do on VFWDeviceQuery to try more
About jmf soucre file, i have used the source file jmf-2_1_1e-scsl-src but i have some package missing such as com.ibm.media.codec.audio.BufferedEncoder ...
so i can't use debugger on all jmf package and check how VFWDeviceQuery is working.
if someone have information about please help me:
    - "sample programs on the JMF Solutions page" about VFWDeviceQuery
    - how to rewrite VFWDeviceQuery to support UYVY
    - how to compile entier jmf source files
