Can I Capture Screen Input (instructional video type stuff)

Hi,
Before buying QT7Pro, was wondering if anyone can tell me:
- Will it let you record input from an application Window?
I have a complex application for which I'm trying to build some sample QT movies. I saw some of the other threads, but I gathered that the complaint was that it didn't support direct input from an external source like a camera. Not sure if there's a difference here.
Thanks in advance,
Greg

I use Snapz Pro (Ambrosia Software) on my Mac to record screen captures and mouse movements as QuickTime movies.
There must be a similar screen record utility available to PC users.
The Pro version of QT doesn't record the viewers display.

  • Can't capture from my cannon video camera to Final Cut or iMovie.

    Hi. I can't capture from my cannon video camera to FInal Cut or iMovie. ANy help would be greatly appreciated. I don't think my iMac is recognizing the camera. I was told I don't need a firewire, that USB would work if I'm just capturing. If I need a firewire what kind (the one I was sold didn't fit). I'm getting an "unable to locate external device message". Not sure of next steps to try. Thanks.

    Forget USB for capturing from tape. USB is only for stills from a Tape Based camera.
    You require a firewire cable.
    The camera connection end will be four pin and the Mac is nine pin to the 800 port.
    Ask for a 9 to 4 pin firewire cable. Sounds like you have the wrong one as they can also be 4 to 4 or 4 to 6 pin!!
    Also you will need the correct Easy Setup in FCE so FCE talk to the camera, exactly which one depends on what type of footage is being sent to FCE from the camera during capture.

  • How can I capture screen video (as opposed to just a screen shot) from my iPad?

    How can I capture a video shot of my iPad 2 (as opposed to a still screen shot)?

    Thanks so much for your reply. How would I go about mirroring the ipad screen onto my laptop? If I could do that, then I would think I could use Camtasia to get the video shot. I know I can use and hdmi conncetion to get the ipad screen to show on my TV but I'm not sure how to do it on my computer since it doesn't have an hdmi connection.

  • I can only capture 6 min of video Help

    Can anyone tell me how to change the settings so I can get more video captured on my new mac book pro. I have Model Name: MacBook Pro

    Is there a way to change the capture setting so I can get more than only 6 mins.

    I have a G4 933Mhz Running Panther 10.3.9 Running FCE Ver 2.0.3 Until a recent software update I was able to capture run and edit.
    Now I am not able to capture video longer than 5 min The Capture screen freezes the Source tape continues to play I have to hit esc then it takes 5 min for the wait wheel to clear. It then flags me about dropped frames.
    I upgraded to Quicktime 7.4.1pro I am still having the same issues.
    Now here is the good part If I have to upgrade as you say!
    I Then need to upgrade my OS At a $100 + Then Upgrade FCE again Here is the best part I have to Upgrade Processor to be able to run all this!
    "Limit Capture Now to" is set to 90 minutes,
    I have 3 internal hardrives that I have been using for a while I dont believe the HD format is the issue.

  • I get a black capture screen (preview), but video captures fine.  What gives?

    I get a black capture screen when capturing with CS6 on a Windows 7 machine.  I'm capturing through Firewire from DV tape, via the VCR function of a Canon XL2 camera.  I have tried restarting, etc.; also toggled the "preview video" radio from the Settings button in the capture Window.  Nothing works and I need to be able to preview my video as I'm capturing.  It is not good enough that the video actually captures fine.  Also, I am forced to turn off Device Control in order to capture because it kicks me out of every capture (an immediate message of : "no frames captured") unless I do.  Please help.

    I'm not familiar with the process of rolling back to a previous update and I assume that is what you are suggesting?  It looks like I'm running 6.05.  Are you suggesting I roll all the way back to 6.00 past 6.04. 6.03, etc? And if I do roll back, does that mean I have to completely uninstall and reinstall CS6 first?  That would be a royal pain.
    A little more updated info:  It's not just in attempting to capture from a DV tape that I get the black capture screen, but the live firewire signal is also black, though again it actaully captures just fine, I just cannot monitor the screen while doing it.
    And it's definitely not something physical, like a bad firewire cable, because I also have the old 2.0 version of Premiere installed on the same machine so I tried an experiment:   I open CS6, then open the capture screen (which of course remains black).  So I close CS6 and open 2.0 and then open the capture window.  It too is black.  But if I restart my machine and open 2.0 without first opening CS6, and then open the capture window, the display is just fine.  So obviosuly some service from CS6 is remaining open when I close it and thus affecting 2.0.
    This problem is really starting to irritate me.

    Me too. As indicated in my last response, my understanding of this topic is fuzzy at best. A few months ago I was silly enough to describe my confusion in Software 101, and was rewarded with the following guidance from one of our experts:
    The Cocoa event model is very thoroughly documented as are all the ways in which it may be bypassed for more immediate drawing tasks. There's no reason for any of this to be even remotely mysterious unless you simply haven't read any of it.
    The author of the above is known for developing newbie abuse into an art form and I often begin my day by reading from the collection of his works I've managed to save over the past year. Some of these are quite rare btw, since they were deleted by management within a few minutes of publication.
    I've yet to discover the documentation referred to above, or if I have, I didn't understand a word of it. If you're interested in general background, a good starting place might be The Event-Drawing Cycle, Revisited in the +Cocoa Fundamentals Guide+.
    For the synchronization problem at hand, I think my first try would be one of the performSelector methods of NSObject.
    I'm fairly sure it would be easy to hide the controls, then start the screen capture in a subsequent event cycle using performSelector:withObject:afterDelay:. However, the doc advises:
    Specifying a delay of 0 does not necessarily cause the selector to be performed immediately. The selector is still queued on the thread’s run loop and performed as soon as possible.
    Without testing I have no idea whether "asap" precludes the possibility of flicker.
    Another method to look at is performSelectorOnMainThread:withObject:waitUntilDone:. I think this would set the hidden property immediately, as advertised. But I don't know whether the immediate processing would include updating the view.
    If none of the performSelector methods do what you want, and you continue to have interest in this topic, it might be a good idea to start a new thread on how to ask Cocoa for a view update in the middle of an event cycle (or maybe how to ask for execution in a desired order?).

  • HOW CAN I CAPTURE SCREEN AND SOUND WHILE WORKING IN AUDITION

    Hi!  I would like capture the screen in real time as well as the sound while working in audition and later add voice and annotations .
          I tried Adobe Acitvate but it is not working. Time is running out for my trial version and I need to decide to get the right software.
          Hope to get an answer soon.

    Are you talking about having used Adobe Captivate? If yes, which kind of recording did you start? And; since you talk about a trial version, I suppose you use Captivate 7?

  • Can't capture video with FCP 5.1

    Hi All,
    Here is the case. I'm trying to capture the video from my newly baught Sony HDR FX7. Here are the specs:
    I've connected it thru Firewire 400 on the back of my G5.
    G5 660GB HD, 5.5Gb RAM
    In Easy set up I've selected HDV-1080i60
    When I go to file-log and capture, it connects to camcorder and says VTR OK on the bottom of the screen.
    When capturing the video (after I've connected to log and capture I push play on camcorder and then click capture now on FCP) I could see on the capture screen and my video running but here an there a green line would cross the film and then it would slow down for a 10th of a second and line would run accouss the capture window again. The type of lines you'd get in the old movie? .
    After I've captured all 5 sigments I had on the tape and when I tried to play (I went to file-import-file, I've selected the captured clip from my internal HD where the FCP put the files). The file opened in browser. And then it open in preview window of FCP. At this point the clip that is 1 minute long would play for 2-4 second and end there. The quality of it was also very, very poor (and I filed it at HD 1080i.
    So, the quality was really poor. It was the case with all 5 clips I've captured from FX7. All of them 2-4 sec. long and very poor quality.
    Now, if I try to play the clip from camcorder and select "in" and "out" points and then batch capture via the same log and capture window, it would tell me that it's "unable to locate timecode, the timecode appears to be missing from the tape. Please verify that tape is timecoded correctly"
    So, I was reading this forum and did this:
    Tried to go to user preferences and set "on time code brake" select "make new clip"
    Nothing helped.
    Also it's worth noting. When I push play on camcorder and click capture now, new window comes up and it says on the bottom of it "searching for meadia..." press esc to stop or something like that. May be it's not finding it?
    Also, when I first filmed with this camera, I would stop after every clip, turn off the camera, plug it into tv and preview what I've filmed.
    Either way, the few seconds of the clips that I"ve got are very bad quality. When I view the clips on my TV and monitore connected thru 3 colored cables, the video was ok, I'd even say good, just too much noice in it. But quality of capture is horrible.
    If anyone is readying this, could you please give me some ideas where to go with this. I don't know what to do from here

    Question is answered

  • Black capture screen in Win 7 unless aero themes are turned on

    I have discovered through trial and error that unless I disable Aero themes on my powerful Windows 7 laptop, my captures always seem to drop a frame or two despite the souped-up resources I have (super fast processor, 16GB RAM, capturing to second hard drive,etc).  By the way, I am capturing through firewire from a Canon XL2 (DV) camera.
    However, on other machines on which I have older versions of Premiere Pro installed, I can do this automatically by right clicking on my desktop Premiere Pro icon, choosing the compatibility tab, and putting a check in the "disable desktop composition" tab.  This basically toggles Aero off as soon as Premiere Pro starts loading, and toggles it back on when I close it.  But this has never worked with Premiere Pro CS6.  I have always had to manually disable Aero even though I have supposedly disabled it through the said compatibility tab of Premiere Pro CS6.
    That's never been a major problem until now.  Now, if PP CS6 is open and aero themes are disabled, I get a black capture screen (I can hear the audio but the capture screen is completely black).  But as soon as I toggle aero back on, the capture screen again displays video normally.  So, basically, if I intend to capture with PP CS6, I am forced into leaving Aero themes on so that I can monitor my capture, but if I do so, I drop frames.  Infuriating.
    This seems to be a similar problem to the one I had a few months ago, "I get a black capture screen (preview), but video captures fine.  What gives?"
    I got no suggestions for that problem other than to "use another application to capture," (UNacceptable since I paid BEAUCOUP bucks for CS6 and I have a perfectly reasonable expectation that it should perform), and "roll back to the previous update" [again, unacceptable, as  1) I have no idea how to do that and 2) updates are issued to resolve other problems, right?  So why should I be forced to roll back?].  Sorry, but these didn't help.
    That particular problem was apparently "resolved" with a subsequent update, and there were no problems for a while (other than the fact that I could still not disable aero through PP CS6's compatiblity tab).  But now, apparently, there has been a further update that has caused this latest problem that never existed before.  Please help.

    Regardless, Premiere Pro should not have an issue if I want to disable Aero themes.  CS6 is the only version that apparently does have an issue with it (and, even then, only recently, which leads me to beleive that a recent update is to blame).
    I know this because I also have the old, old Premiere Pro 2.0 installed on the same machine.  If I disable Aero and then Open PP 2.0, the capture screen is just fine.
    But if I disable Aero and first open PP CS6, close it, and then open PP 2.0 instead, the capture screen in PP 2.0 is now black as well, and I cannot get it back unless I reboot.  Obviously, when I close PP CS6, some service or other, that I haven't been able to identify so far, is remaining open and affecting PP 2.0.
    Again, all prior versions of PP have never had an issue with disabling Aero themes.  Why does CS6, all of sudden, absolutely need it enabled in order to work properly (though it doesn't work properly, it drops frames)?

  • Can I capture crystal report user input in my web application?

    Folks, I have a report that has a input paramter named "AccountKey". Crystal report launches its own input parameter capture screen where user can type in the AccountKey value and hit OK button. Subsequently the crystal report gets renedred in crystal report viewer.
    I have a requirement of rendering the report in PDF not in crystal report. How do I do that.
    I am able to do that when there is no user input needed in the crystal report or, if I can somehow supply needed input from code-behind, but the moment I has a parameter that expects user-input I loose control.
    Is there anyway I can capture what value user has entered in Crystal Report Input paramagter capture form? or, any alternate that can help me acheive the result?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    To capture the values of Parameters the best thing you can do is to code for parameters and take values from it through text boxes, so that you can capture it.
    here some sample code for it - try it
    I would like you to know the following code that I have tried at my end using Viewer Object model:
    // Object Declaration
    ParameterFields boParameterFields = null;
    ParameterField boParameterField = null;
    ParameterValues boParameterValues = null;
    ParameterDiscreteValue boParameterDiscreteValue = null;
    ParameterRangeValue boParameterRangeValue = null;
    // loading the report
    CrystalReportViewer1.ReportSource = Server.MapPath("ReportWithSubReport.rpt");
    CrystalReportViewer1.RefreshReport();
    // passing database credentials...
    foreach(CrystalDecisions.Shared.TableLogOnInfo boTableLogOnInfo in CrystalReportViewer1.LogOnInfo)
                  ConnectionInfo boConnectionInfo = boTableLogOnInfo.ConnectionInfo;
                  boConnectionInfo.UserID ="sa";
                  boConnectionInfo.Password="sa";
    // Parameter Country
    boParameterFields = CrystalReportViewer1.ParameterFieldInfo;
    boParameterField = boParameterFields["Country"];
    boParameterValues = boParameterField.CurrentValues;
    boParameterDiscreteValue = new ParameterDiscreteValue();
    boParameterDiscreteValue.Value = "Argentina";
    boParameterValues.Add(boParameterDiscreteValue);
    // Parameter Sales
    boParameterField = boParameterFields["Sales"];
    boParameterValues = boParameterField.CurrentValues;
    boParameterRangeValue = new ParameterRangeValue();
    boParameterRangeValue.StartValue = 25000;
    boParameterRangeValue.EndValue = 100000;
    boParameterValues.Add(boParameterRangeValue);
    // Parameter @percentage in subreport named SubReport
    boParameterField = boParameterFields["@percentage", "SubReport"];
    boParameterValues = boParameterField.CurrentValues;
    boParameterValues.Clear();
    boParameterDiscreteValue = new ParameterDiscreteValue();
    boParameterDiscreteValue.Value = 75;
    boParameterValues.Add(boParameterDiscreteValue);
    Please note that I have used Range and Discrete values as parameter in the above code.
    Also if you want to use the ReportDocument Object model then you can use:
    ReportDocument.SetParameterValues("Parameter name", value)
    Note:- This code is valid for only discrete values of Parameters.
    or
    boParameterFieldDefinitions = boReportDocument.DataDefinition.ParameterFields;
    boParameterFieldDefinition = boParameterFieldDefinitions["@percentage","SubReport"];
    boParameterValues = boParameterFieldDefinition.CurrentValues;
    For getting output in PDF you can export the report to PDF throug viewer or from code fro e.g.-
    boReportDocument.ExportToDisk(ExportFormatType.portabledocumentformat,"c:\\temp\\myrpt.pdf");
    To download sample code click [here|https://boc.sdn.sap.com/codesamples].
    You can also take help from [Dev library|https://boc.sdn.sap.com/node/7770]
    Hope this helps!!

  • Can't capture video using iSight camera in QuickTime 7.4 (92)

    OK, I see that there are plenty of "bugs" with Quicktime Version 7.4 (92), but I don't see the problem I am having, posted anywhere. Here goes...
    I cannot capture video using my [Firewire] iSight camera on my CoreDuo MacMini. I definitely used to be able to do this. When I go to File>New Movie Recording, I get a back/blank Movie Recording window and that's it. I click on the Red/Record button and nothing happens. The timer doesn't even advance. Just sits there. When I try to stop the recording, I get the following message:
    *"Recording failed because no data was received.*
    *Make sure that the media input source is turned on and playing."*
    I can still capture audio, although had some problems and had to "downgrade" to version 7.3.x and subsequently reinstalled 7.4. Now the audio works but still no video.
    A few things:
    1. YES, the iSight camera works - I can use it in iMovie, iChat, Photobooth, etc. - for both video and audio.
    2. As I mentioned, I tried "downgrading" (using "Pacifist") but still no video.
    3. I re-installed Version 7.4 and the audio problems cleared up, but again, still unable to capture video.
    3. All software updates installed.
    Any ideas???
    Thanks!

    "As I mentioned, I tried "downgrading" (using "Pacifist") but still no video."
    See QuickTimeKirk’s posting in the following thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1357579&tstart=0
    Try the following:
    Trash com.apple.LaunchServices.plist
    It's located in your account:
    HD/Library/Preferences/com.apple.LaunchServices.plist
    Delete the file, restart (a new .plist will be created) and quicktime hopefully will work again w/o doing an Archive & Install.
    +If you want to do an A&I:+
    Do an archive and install of your OS from the OS disc. Stop at the QT upgrade you need.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301270 Scroll down to "Archive and Install”
    IMPORTANT: Maker sure you select "preserve user preferences and data" when you performed the A&I?
