Can I capture without timecode?

Hello,
I am attempting to capture Hi8 tapes. The Hi8 camera is connected to the analog inputs of a Sony DSR-11 firewire input device. I am using Firewire NTSC Basic.
I can preview the video in the Log and Capture window just fine. When choosing 'Capture Now' it waits for timecode. Is there a way to over ride the need for timecode when capturing? I can record this way in iMovie with the same hardware setup.
Thanks for any advice!

Sure!
Change your capture presets to Uncontrollable Device. Then just play the Hi8 machine, and use Capture Now.

  • Can someone capture a timecode DAT for me in the CT-area?

I didn't have any luck obtaining a timecode DAT. I was wondering if someone in the CT-area could capture a timecode DAT for me, in FCP, and place the audio in a timeline utilizing the DAT's timecode. Pretty simply and I would be much appreciative.

I've got a place in Stamford that I think can do this for you.

  • Log and Capturing without Timecode?

I want to play video from my television, to my camera, to my computer. I see the video on the computer screen but when i try to log andcapture it is looking for timecode and there is none. how can one capture this footage?
    thanks!!!

Since the video feed contains no timecode, in FCE's capture settings, you must select "DV Convert" and then use Capture Now.

  • Capturing Without Timecode

Frustratingly, after a long project taking up five tapes, two of my tapes are not registering a timecode when they are played back. Playing them and pressing "Capture Now" simply results in FCP sitting there "Waiting for timecode". Is there a way I can trick it into capturing what is being previewed without the use of a timecode?
(And if you're a timecode expert... why did my last tape suffer 146 timecode breaks in one hour?)

oooookay, well, I tried your suggestion, and Eureka!... it wasn't the timecode that was breaking, regardless of what it was saying. It was the pulldown cadence that was apparently somehow corrupted. When I captured with regular DV NTSC without the advanced pulldown, it captured the whole thing in one take. Then I did what you said, and chose the "remove pulldown" option from the Tools menu. Well, it blinked for a second, got about a 5th of the way on the progress bar and quickly announced there was a break in the pulldown cadence, so, mystery solved. Unfortunately FCP's remove pulldown wasn't robust enough to handle it, but fortunately I'm a plug-in fiend, and Nattress's G Remove Pulldown did the trick after some experimenting with the settings. Funny thing is, I've never once had this problem the whole time I've been shooting and capturing with the DVX, so I have to figure maybe the tape itself was degrading. It's always been able to remove the pulldown as it captures, but obviously not with this tape, as a 2nd tape I used that same night captured fine with pulldown enabled on the capture. Anyways, I can't thank you enough Meg, for pointing me in the right direction, and I only wish I could give you credit for answering my question, but since I kind of hijacked this thread, I can only hope someone at Apple reads this and gives credit where credit is due. The forums here rock, they've always been able to solve any problem I have, and this has been no exception, thanks a million!

  • Can I import WITHOUT timecode?

For some odd reason, I have a couple of mini-dv tapes with footage on them but no timecode. Not timecode breaks, just no timecode at all. Of course when I try to log and capture it says waiting for timecode. How can I import my footage if it has no timecode?

I don't think that's even possible. TC is ALWAYS recorded on tape. Chances are you attempting to Capture Now in remote mode.
Capture Now does NOT start playback on your deck. It's meant for sources to which you have no control, or decks in Local mode. If you want to use Capture now, do as Nick wrote above.

  • Capture without timecode

    Hi.
I'm transfering VHS tapes into Final Cut Pro. Until now I've been putting every single one into a DV tape and then capture it into Final Cut.
Is there a way to skip the DV tape prosess? I tried, but there was an error because there was no timecode.

    Final Cut Express wrote:
Well, every time I choose this option it still waits for the time code and I'm not able to capture. When I return to capture options "DV-NTSC" is marked as active. So it looks like I can't switch to "non-controllable".
Well, that's not what you asked in your first post. Using a preset is quite different from unlocking it.
But I have never used Final Cut Express. You might try that forum where Tom Wolsky and some other wonks may have an answer for you.

  • How can I capture without Firewire 400 on a new type MacPro?

I mean, Sony HDVs only have FW400, but there are no more FW400 on new type MacPros.
It means that I have to buy a AJA hardware?

Do remember that Firewire ports on Mac Pro's are hub'd together. I'm no 100% sure if it the same on the new '09 Mac Pro's but certainly on the older ones. this means that if you have a FW800 drive plugged in and then plug in a FW400 drive the whole speed of both devices will drop to a FW400 speed. Even worse, if you plug a camera in sometimes hese can run at what equates to FW100 / 200 speed. Therefore your FW800 speed drive will become massively unresponsive.
So if you're planning on digitising, remember to plug the camera into one of the front ports, and the drive into a back port. that should avoid the slow down.

  • Capturing HDV without Timecode

I am using a JVC HD110 U capturing in HDV at 720p 24. For some reason, even though the timecodes are consecutive, Final Cut Studio is registering timecode breaks. Some of these are on cuts, but others are in the middle of takes.
I know that if it were DV I could set the device to non-controllable and capture without timecode, but in HDV it won't let me set the device control to non-controllable.
Is there anyway that I can capture HDV and ignore the time code on the tape?
    Thanks much,
    J. Cameron Brueckner

Depending on that setting I either get the capture to stop in the middle or it continues and create a new clip. If I let it run, I loose a few seconds in the middle of the take. If I set the preroll to 1 sec, I can get the lost time down to 3 sec, but since it happens in the middle of takes not just at cuts, it is still a problem that I am loosing 3 seconds (2 while it searches for media and 1 for preroll).
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks much.

  • Is there any way I can program "Capture" to save pnp.picts always under the same name, without a date ?

Is there any way I can program "Capture" to save pnp.picts on the desk, but always under the same name, without a date ?
It may be sound weird, but I use it in a very special way, and I would like, like photoshop, that capture just replace
the previous pict by the new one..without any warning.

There is no way to go back from an XFA form to an Acroform even with Acrobat Pro, still less with Acrobat. You either need to remake the form, or change your plans to use a third party viewer - Adobe have an excellent range of programs they would like you to use!

  • Can not capture from Sony HDV 1080i (recording in 60i)

    Hello
We are trying to capture from the above camera to a Mac Dual G5. We are using FinalCutPro 5.1.2. We are using a FireWire 400 cable to connect to the front of the computer (have also tryed back of Cinema Display). The footage was captured in HDV1080/60i, and we have tried the corresponding formats in Easy Setup (Basic, standard, Apple Intermediate).
The problem: we can control the camera from the Log and Capture windows, but when starting capture, no data is coming in, and the program therefor gives up after a few seconds (displaying a no data error message).
We have tried Batch and Now capture. We can log clips, and get the correct time code, but can not capture those clips due to the no data problem.

This is a good workaround for curing your camera recognition problem with FCP (if that's what it is):
First, check that your Easy Setup / Timeline / Camera or Deck Settings are all exactly the same, then making sure your camera or deck is in VTR mode, try to capture again.
FCP uses a different form of QT than iMovie for capturing, so if the camera works in iMovie (or if it's listed in System Profiler) but not FCP, it obviously means your Mac can see the VTR but FCP can't, so you need to do this QuickTime fix.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301852
Follow the instructions carefully and you should have things running in no time - it's quite safe but you must Trash the Receipts AND re-install QT from the link provided.
If the Camera / Deck isn't recognised by iMovie or System Profiler, try resetting the Firewire Bus . . . Turn off the Mac and disconnect the power and all Firewire cables. Leave it for 30 mins then connect back up.
Still not working? Try a different Firewire cable.
Failing all this, try resetting the PMU (Power Management Unit). The method varies from machine to machine, so visit the Apple site and search for it in support.
Don't use iMovie for capturing - it doesn't give you a timecode and that's very important.
Let us know how you get on!

  • Faulty firewire port on DV7-3080ca: can't capture video

I have a Pavilion DV7-3080ca laptop, and I cannot properly capture video from my (Canon HV20) video camera, which I connect to the laptop's firewire (1394) port. Regular video can be captured but not without many dropped frames, and HD Video cannot be captured at all. When I connect the camera to the firewire port, the camera says "HDMI Out" on the camera screen, instead of "DV Out" as it should say, so there seems to also be a recognition problem.
Searching on the Internet, I've learned that the problem is likely the Ricoh chipset that this firewire port uses, which is apparently more problematic than the preferred Texas Instruments (TI) chipset that some other laptops use for their firewire port.
Does anyone know if there's a fix for this?  Is it something that HP could fix with a future BIOS update?  I was hoping that it may have been corrected in the last BIOS, but I just flashed my DV7 BIOS with the latest version from the HP web site (F.13), and it didn't help. I've also updated the graphics driver and the Intel chipset drivers; that didn't fix the problem either.
My other alternative, if there is no fix, is to purchase an Expresscard with firewire ports that uses the TI chipset. Does anyone know if that would solve my problem? I don't want to spend the extra $50 if it won't.
Some people speculate that the problem with the DV7 firewire ports is also partly because it shares IRQ16 with several other functions, in which case the Expresscard solution won't work, because I think it's on IRQ16 too.
Any tips would be most appreciated.  I've tried contacting HP via Help chat and email, but neither response even acknowledged that the firewire port's Ricoh chipset is faulty, even though that seems to be common knowledge on the web.

Has anyone tried to capture video with a firewire Expresscard rather than with the faulty Ricoh-chipset-based firewire port that's built in (but faulty) on the DV7 laptop?
It's my last hope, but I'm not optimistic. Some say it won't help because it shares IRQ16 with lots of other functions.  Don't really want to spend another $50 to work around a firewire port that should work properly in the first place, but I really need to be able to capture DV footage with this laptop.
Have tried to contact someone at HP who's familiar with this problem, but no luck.

  • Capturing and Timecode Help

    Hi,
We're capturing DV tapes from a deck using a firewire cable to our Macbook and a USB cable to our external drive for the scratch disk.
We're having trouble capturing - trying to capture each entire tape - but after short varied times with each tape, usually about a minute, the capturing stops with FCP saying it's locating a timecode break. Problem is that it never locates it and the timecode breaks are in the middle of shots, not in shooting breaks when the camera was turned off.
Any ideas? Thank you for your help.

That might be part of the problem. But, that aside, we can actually capture the material reliably if, under the capture settings we tell FCP to warn about any timecode breaks AFTER capturing instead of during or making a new clip.
That might be the WHOLE problem. The fact that you can capture if you turn the warning off only means FCP is not going to tell you you've had breaks until capture is done. And as Loyed has said, TC is very important if you ever need to recapture the footage.
Although some get away with capturing via USB, it is not recommended and this is one of the problems you would expect to see as a result.

  • In v.11, how can I capture video but not audio from a camera?

In v.11, how can I capture video but not audio from a camera?

    Rodney
I see what you mean....Premiere Elements 10 appears to be the last version that had options for the user to select Capture Video and/or Audio in the its Capture Window.
If you are doing DV data capture firewire into the Premiere Elements 11 Capture Windows and want a final file without audio and you cannot do this at the camera level, then consider....
    1. Do the Capture "to the Timeline" - video linked to audio result on the project's Video Track 1
    a. Right click the Timeline DV AVl and select Delete Audio and then edit accordingly.
    or
    b. Import the DV AVI but, when you go to export it, in the export settings, remove the check mark next to Audio so that the export contains only the video portion.
Publish+Share/Computer/AVI with Presets = DV NTSC Standard
Please let us know if any of that worked for you.
    Thank you.

  • Oracle Trigger - How can I capture and correct on the fly  ORA-01847

Oracle Trigger - How can I capture and correct on the fly ORA-01847 day of month must be between 1.
I have a table that has a date column. Sometimes an invalid date is passed and I'd like to capture and initilize the incoming value to null and have it inserted without error. Currently I get ORA-01847 day of month must be between 1.
    Example:
    create table ep1
    col_1 number,
    col_2 date
Now if a user does the following, I want no error to occure but rather for the date value to be set to null and inserted.
    insert into ep1 values('1', '41-JAN-13')
The insert may come from any client and I can't change the calling code hence can't used a precedure to replace the insert. I'm guessing there is some way to catch system level exceptions on the DB level. This doesn't need to be nice, it just needs to work.
Here is the question on experts exchange. I'm told there is no way, but there must be. After all the exception is on a DB system level and I would think one could extend or override these, or disable them.
