Can I Change duration of a Film Burn in Final Cut Pro X

Is there a way to change the duration of a Film Burn (.mov) in Final Cut Pro X.  for example I have 10 second film burn (.mov), and I want that film burn to be 30 sec or more any way I can do this?
Currently I copy the Film Burn several times on the timelien to make it longer.
Note: The Film Burn is set at 10 seconds, I CAN NOT DRAG it to make it any longer.  Any Ideas would be great!

You could drag three instances into a timeline and then create a compound clip that you could use over and over again.

  • Plz give me work flow of film editing in Final Cut Pro..

    Hello Everyone...
I am basically a Avid Film Editor. Past 2 years I am using Final Cut Pro. Recently I finished Final Cut Pro Level 1 & T3. Right now I am working as a App. Support Engineer specially for Final Cut Pro .
I want know the work flow of film editing in Final Cut Pro. I am very interested to do film editing in FCP but the workflow from Avid to FCP its totally different.
I tried few options like using FCP & Cinema Tools..
    1. Captured 25fps clips and cofirmed to 24fps in cinematools.
    2. In FCP the Timeline frame rate is 24fps
But I am not able to understand..
    1. What is Database?
    2. Cant we capture 24fps in FCP?
    3. How to Synchronize captured clips with Cinema Tools database?
    4. How to link the captured clips in to Cinema Tools database?
    5. Where do I enter the KN Start & KN End?
    6. What about Pull List & Cut List?
Please give me the details of film technics in Final Cut Pro....
    Thanks in advance....

I knew I'd find this same post here. That makes three versions of trhe same list of questions.
Posting three times here implies you have posted this set of questions in many other FCP forums around the Net. If that is so, do us all the kindness of returning to all of them and closing them. Include the suggestions you have received and the solutions that were successful for you. That way your multiple threads will show up on search inquiries when other confused FCP newbies try to start complex film projects.
It's a bummer you cannot find these answers in the FCP manuals, I'm usre you looked there first. But, since we run on volunteers around here, it may be several days before someone with enough practical CinemaTools experience can stop by and handle them for you. Please have some patience.

  • I can't get my blade tool to work in Final Cut Pro X 10.0.7

I can't get my blade tool to work in Final Cut Pro X 10.0.7. I magnify the clip to the highest zoom and when I select the blade tool, I see the icon but when I click on the clip to chop it.....nothing. The blade turns red and nothing happens. Please help.

If you are in fact in the active project window, try command B at the location of the skimmer and see whether it makes the edit.

  • Creating a film look in Final Cut Pro 3

I have finished editing my short in and some of the images are too harsh; please advise me on how I can get a more film like look. I shot the short on a Sony PD-150 and edited it on Final Cut Pro 3 using a G4 and running OS X. 2.6
A friend suggested using a filter like Magic Bullet, which doesn't work on OS X. 2.6. Someone else suggested rendering it in 30 frames per second but don't know how to do that in FCP.
    G4   Mac OS X (10.2.x)

You're not going to be able to make magic happen with DV footage on final cut 3. Film has a generally softer and murkier look than video, so try bringing down the harsher higlights and desaturing colors somewhat. You're just going to have to play arround with the the filters and color corrector, and eyeball it on a broadcast monitor.
As far as frame rate is concerned, there's nothing you can do. DV is 29.97fps, film is 24fps. Simply changing the framerate (especially to 30) won't make it look more film like. 24 fps pulldown needs to happen in camera to achieve such an effect.
If you're interested in something like Magic Bullet (which you'll have far better luck with), you'll have to find someone who has it.
Honestly, my advice would be to worry about your film looking good more than worry about your film looking like film.

  • How can I playback blu-ray .img files generated by Final Cut Pro X?

When I share a Final Cut Pro X project in Blu-ray and I set the output device as Hard drive (blu-ray), it creates a blu-ray image with a .img extension.
By the way, the project's clips are AVCHD (.mts extension) and the settings are set to 1080i (1440x1080 25i).
My question is: can I playback this file without having to burn a blu-ray disc?
I've been looking for information, and some people seems to playback blu-ray .iso files.
And: would Compressor 4 solve my problem? (is there anyway in Compressor to create a .iso image or something easier to play?).
By the way, I do have access to both Windows and Mac computers.
    Thanks in advance,
    Pol

    Thanks for the answer.
If you own Compressor 4, could you tell me if it includes an option to generate a .iso file instead of a .img?
(here's information on how to playback a .iso).
    Thanks,

  • Automatic Ken burns effect final cut pro x

I would like to apply the Ken Burns effect automatically, and with random motion, to all stills on the time line in Final Cut Pro X.
It is possible in iMovie, so I would expect that Final Cut Pro X would have it also as basic functionality, but I just can't seem to find out to do it.

You can turn it on in the crop function, either under the transform popup in the viewer or in the inspector.

  • Burning a Final cut Pro X Project with DVD Studio Pro

    Hi,
A project edited in Final Cut Pro X and Compressed with Compressor 4, can you then burn to disc with DVD Studio Pro?
I have DVD Studio Pro on my system but when I burn the project to disc using DVD Studio Pro it crashes all the time.
I'm wondering if DVD Studio Pro is not compatable with a 64 bit system?
    Advise is appreacated.

Thanks Tony that did it, I was using Burn but when I went to Build/Format the disc burned as it should, thanks

  • Dvd burned from final cut pro hackes when viewed on Bose dvdplayer

When I burn a DVD from final cut pro x (disc creator) on my MAC book pro,(MAC IOS lion 10.7.5) it can be viewed on my computer without problems, but hackes when viewede on my Bose dvd player, even though it works fine with purchased dvds. What is the problem?

Brand of DVD media can cause this.  Not all DVD players will work with all self-burned DVDs.  They are flimsy soft plastic and prone to errors.  This is not an FCPX issue, but simply a self-burned DVD issue.  Try a different brand of DVD media.

  • How can I open a project made in 2000 on Final Cut Pro to migrate it to a new version?

how can I open a project made in late 2000 on Final Cut Pro to migrate it to a new version to finish editing it? files, timeline and unfinished edit are all stored on hard drive since early 2001, with all the original miniDV tapes still in hand

Do you still have legacy FCP? If you not you need to find someone who will open the project in FCP6.0.6 or later. Export an XML file of the project. Use 7toX to convert it to an XML format that works with FCPX. Import the converted XML file to FCP.

  • HELP!  How can I view a clip frame by frame in final cut pro?

Hi, does anyone out there know how to view a clip in final cut pro frame by frame. I don't really want to use the jogging function as you cannot see each individual frame just all the frames snapped together. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

It is really time to open the manuals, do the tutorials, and learn the basics of how this application works. You'll be amazed at what you learn it can do!

  • Can I import projects from the full version of Final Cut Pro X from when I was using the trial version?

So I recently purchased the full edition of Final Cut Pro X, and was wondering why one of the projects I was working on at the time it expired imported back into FCP without asking me, but the other did not.  I really need to use this file, but it is in the format of .fcpproject, so I really don't understand why I am not able to use it.  It sometimes says when I try to open it that the version of that project was made in an updated version of FCP, or something to that affect, so it cannot be used.  I have no idea why it says this, because as far as I know that is un-true.  Any ideas?
Edit:  I also don't want to delete the trial yet, a little apprehensive, like maybe I need it.  But I might if it comes to that.  I suppose the time did run out so it is practically worth nothing...

You do not open fcpproject files. You don't double click or anything else. The files have to be in the correct folder structure in the Final Cut Projects folder and the application opens them automatically. Can you post screen shots of the Final Cut Projects folder and its location.

  • Can you export a Quick Time REFERENCE file from Final Cut Pro X?

Used to be in FCP-7, you could export your timeline and at the bottom of the Export dialog box, there was a check box where you could check "Make the movie self-contained," which would export a full Quick Time .mov file, or you could UNCHECK that box and FCP would export a Quick Time REFERENCE file (referencing the source media used within the timeline), which you could then bring in to any one of a number of different encoding apps.
I prefer to use Sorenson Squeeze to do my encoding, as it's much, much faster than Compressor and has infinitely more format options (Flash, Windows Media, Real, etc., etc.).
But now, I don't see a way to export a Quick Time Reference file from the Final Cut Pro timeline, er, uh, storyline, er, uh, project.
Anybody know if there's a way to export a Quick Time REFERENCE file (not a full Quick Time .mov)?

I do the same thing with Final Cut Express, actually.  Only I then open the reference file up in QuickTime Pro and re-export it to an h.264 mp4.  I can do that multiple times in the background vs. getting caught up in Final Cut's pathetically non-threaded user interface when it's saving/exporting.
I was going to ask the exact same question here, but you beat me to it.  And so far it sounds like the answer is "no" ... :-(
