Can I change the Firefox icon permanently?

I've been trying to change the Firefox/Nightly icons to a custom icon that will show in the taskbar. I've tried using resource hacker to fix it, but after I restart my computer or wait long enough the changes will disappear and the icons will go back to normal.
The icon for the firefox.exe in the programs will change to the icons I want once I use resource hacker, but when I turn my computer back on they go back to the default ones. Is there a way to change the icon "permanently" and still be able to change it back when I want it back?
Thanks.

Change it as you would any taskbar icon:
# Right-click the Nightly icon on the taskbar.
# In the menu that pops up, right-click Nightly and choose Properties.
# In the Properties window, click the Shortcut tab.
# Click the Change Icon button, select your custom icon and click the OK button.
# Click the OK button to close the Properties window.
# If Nightly is currently running, you'll may need to exit and restart it for the change to take effect.
There's a way to change the application icon in Firefox, but it won't affect much. If you've already done the above, then in current versions of Windows it'll probably only affect the icon shown in the Alt+Tab application switcher.
Name your icon ''main-window.ico'' and place it in the following folder. The folder doesn't exist by default and must be created manually.
C:\Program Files (x86)\Nightly\browser\chrome\icons\default
Don't tamper with any Firefox installation files, the executable in particular.

• Just updated to 7.0.1 for Mac Snow Leopard, but the icon in my dock isn't the firefox symbol, it's a "document" icon. How can I get the firefox icon in my dock again?

I was given an auto-update message from Firefox, which asked me to restart the program to initiate the update. As soon as Firefox restarted, I got a weird document icon in my dock - in the place where the Firefox icon was moments before. The new update of Firefox seems to be working just fine, but I would like the Firefox icon in my dock and not this unrelated icon. Can you help, please?

I had this problem. Re-instal Firefox. After you drag the Firefox icon in to the Applications icon it is going to ask you if you're sure that you want to replace the version that's there - say yes. Then go down to your dock and remove the Firefox icon - drag it off the dock so it "poof!s" away. You can now put the icon on your dock again from your newly updated version. If that doesn't fix it drag it off the dock again, probably no need to re-update for the third time. Fixed it for me anyway. GL!

why not? use LiteIcon then. it's free and is MUCH safer than mucking with system files by hand. if you insist you can do it as follows. go to /system/library/coreservices. control-click on coretypes.bundle and select "show package contents". go to contents-> resources. change the file GenericFolderIcon.icns with your own .icns file. back up the original bundle first.

• I can't get the Firefox icon to remain in my tray on a MAC OS X 10.5.8

That's the story: I download, but when I close firefox, the icon disappears from the tray at the bottom of the screen.

You mean the dock. You can put the Firefox icon in the dock by dragging the icon from where Firefox is installed and dropping it on the dock.

• I can't get the Firefox icon onto my icon page, how do I do this ?

I tried to unistall the Firefox program, but could not do it. I did delete the firefox icon. Now the
program is still on my Windows PC, but I can't get the icon back. HELP

Take a look in C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\
There should be firefox icon.
1. right click on it
2. click "Send to" > Desktop (create shortcut).
And then you should see firefox icon on your desktop.
If you want to remove firefox you can try, restart PC first ..
then open Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Programs and Features. You should see Mozilla FIrefox on list, just right click on it and click uninstall. Job done :D

Hi LDHill,
Have you tried right clicking on the Firefox and icon and going to ''Send to > Desktop''? That will create a shortcut for Firefox on your desktop.
Hopefully this helps!

• How can I change the firefox text find color?

When you press CTRL+F in Firefox to bring up the text search and you search for a word, the word is highlighted in this neon green color. Is there a way to change the color of this? The green color is hardly visible.

Hi Pino76,
You should take a look at:
http://kb.mozillazine.org/About%3Aconfig_entries#UI.
Just type ''about:config'' into your browser
ui.textSelectBackgroundAttention is the entry you want to modify. Just add the hex value of the color you want.
If that entry isn't there, you can create it.
Hopefully this helps!

• Can i change the "computer" icon from the "luxo lamp" iMac to a 20" iMac?

Hi,
In the finder (and File > Open dialog box), the icon that represents my computer is an image of the "luxo lamp" iMac (the one with the dome base).
Since my Mac is a current 20" intel Mac, I'd like to change the icon to one that looks like my actually computer. Is there a way to do this?
If there is no easy way to choose a different icon, then seems to be it nearly qualifies as a defect -- why show a picture of my Mac that doesn't look like my Mac? Surely all of us (MacBook users, Mac Mini users, iMac users) would prefer the icon to default to the model of our actual machine?
Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

Yes you can change it, I have done so in the past, but if you run a combo update it gets changed back, so I haven't bothered lately--although since we're now at 10.4.9 that will no longer be a problem.
You need a way to create and edit icns files and a willingness to mess with system files. You then go here:
"/System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources/iMac.icns"
When you get to the CoreTypes.bundle you need to use the Contextual Menu and select Show Package Contents, then continue travelin' on down. Copy the iMac.icns file by dragging to your Desktop (it won't move out of the original folder), open the copy in an icns editor and modify it to what you want, then save. Next drag your modified file into the Resources folder--you'll be asked to Authenticae in order to do that thing, and asked if you want to replace the original, when you say yes you will have to give your admin password. You will then need to restart to see the change.
If you've never done this sort of thing before and don't know a thing about icns files, nor have an icns editor installed (there's one in Developer Tools), it probably isn't worth it.

• Where can I change the System properties permanently

Instead of
System.setProperty("name","new-value");
to change the system properties in run-time.
How can I change it in a config file? Where is it?
Thx.

Hai,
We can't directly set the system properties values using config/properties file. But, if you wish to use Spring framework, there is an option to load system properties through a config file.
