Can I change the volume of songs in a playlist without permanently changing file?

I'm making playlists and sometimes the songs have a very different volume.  It doesn't matter when you play a whole album but the contrast of loud and quiet in a playlist can be jarring.
If I burn the playlist to a disk I can apply the "Soundcheck" that helps.  But what can I do if I just play off my computer?
I don't want permanantly to change the volumes because then the songs would sound funny when played out of the playlist.
Any easy solutions?
I'm using iTunes 10.6.1 on an iMac running OS X 10.6.8
Thanks

No. You can't have a "special" volume adjustment for use in a playlist.

How do I even out the volume for songs in my playlist?  Can I tell somewhere what the volume level is for each song and then change it so all the songs are the same, then re-synch?

    Hey Eegee
I would turn on Sound Check to level out the songs. You do this by going to iTunes Preferences > Playback Tab > Check Sound Check.

  • Ipad2, iOS 8.1.2, how do I change the order of songs in my Playlists?

I Have an iPad 2, using iOS 8.1.2. i can't seem to change the order of songs in my Playlists in the Music App. I've clicked on Edit, and tried moving the 3 lines on the right up/down, but when I press Done, the changes have not been affected. Can anyone advise, please? I'm sure I'm missing something!

It sounds like you are doing it correctly. That method works for me in iOS 8.1.2
Have you tried restarting or resetting your iDevice?
Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after It shuts down, press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10-15 seconds).
    No data will be lost.

  • How can I shuffle the order of songs in a playlist in iTunes 11?

How can I shuffle the order of songs in a playlist in iTunes 11?

Never mind, finally figured it out. All the advice says to click on the left-most column, but it's actually the second column from the left (the first one, in mky version of iTunes, is the album list.)

  • How to change the order of songs in a playlist?

The order of songs in a playlist on ITunes is different than the order of songs on my IpodNano 7th Gen -- how can I get them to be the same?

I think so. I have "Music" selected from the drop down menu, and I have "Playlists" selected from the top row of choices. The title of the playlist is in a header row with the number of songs (26) and playing time. The first column is the one that shows the numbers assigned to each song.
I have tried selecting "Edit Playlist" thinking that might be where I should go to fix this, but I can't drag or drop there either.
    Any other ideas???

  • How can I control the volume of songs played through AirTunes?

I have an AirPort Express, with which I use to stream my iTunes music library through an external pair of speakers.
But whenever I use the volume keys on my keyboard, it only adjusts the system volume, not my AirPlay Speakers.
Is there a way for me to control the volume of my AirPlay Speakers through the volume button on the menu bar?
Or do I have to download some sort of third party app?
    Thanks.

If you are playing it through Airplay from your itunes you can adjust the volume by clicking on the Airplay icon and selecting multiple
Of course if your playing through something like a Bose Soundock you need to manually set the max volume on it and Airplay works within that limit

  • How can I remove the forced U2 songs from my iphone without synchronizing?

Hello. I have about 100 songs merely on my iPhone, nowhere else. Apple moved somehow these U2 songs on my iPhone without permission. Now it is like having an undesired cupboard standing in the middle of my living room and I cannot remove it. A synchronizing would also delete my 100 songs. What can I do? Please help!

  • How do I change the order of songs in a playlist?

I know that I used to be able to drag songs to a different order in my iTunes playlists, but tonight, no matter the order that I add the songs to the playlist, or Smart Playlist, the order of the songs is alphabetically arranged, and the only other option is to click on "name" but then it just does reverse alphabetical order.
Is something different, in a recent iTunes upgrade?  I'm a music teacher and I am trying to put the songs in the order that my students will be performing them next week, so this is driving me crazy tonight!!!!
Thanks so much for sharing wisdom on what I am doing wrong!

Do you have other choice selected in "View Options"?  Try turning on columns for album, artist, etc. if they aren't on and see if you can sort by those.  The other thing to try is to make sure you are viewing by List, not cover flow or another choice.  iTunes selects Album Artist by default and that can really make it hard to get things to group properly.

  • How do I change the order of songs in my playlists?

It used to be a simple as click and drag, but now it's seems impossible.  I'm really frustrated with the is dang machine to the point of putting a coffee cup through it and buying a pc.  I'm running iTunes 11.4

    Hello there bcourtney,
If the track you are dragging will not stay in the place you are trying to drag it to and seems to snap back, it seems to me that the playlist this is happening on is a Smart Playlist, rather than a standared Playlist. The standard playlist can be sorted in this way in iTunes 11:
iTunes 11 for Mac: Create a playlist
    Edit a playlist
Select the playlist and do any of the following:
Drag the songs into the order you want. If you can’t drag a song, click the column heading above the numbers.
Looking at the Smart Playlist article it does not have that same drag and drop sorting function.

  • How do I manually change the order of songs in a playlist?

    What am I missing?

Assuming that you are using the View/As List to look at your Playlist, click on the top of the number column on the left side, so that the songs are in the order they were placed into the list (and there will now be an arrow at the top of that column). Now simply drag songs to the point in the list where you want them.
If the Playlist was in the order of Last played for instance, then you simply cannot drag songs around in the list because it would go against the "last played" order.

  • Why is the order of songs on a playlist different on my iphone than it is on my computer

The playlist "My Top Rated" is in descending order by rating on my computer (songs with the same rating are then sorted by artist) but on my phone they are always in a messed up order. I've tried making new playlists and resynching my phone, but nothing is working. And no, I don't have shuffle on.

  • Missing: Adding the "Now Playing" song to a Playlist

I have a lot of songs but I want to manage my music by creating playlists on the go, so I purchased an iPod Touch and Stuffed in all my music to iTunes to sync to my iPod Touch. Done.
Just found out that you can NOT add the currently playing song to a playlist, new or existing. The easiest way to add the currently playing song, to a new or old playlist is to (This will be long), first, memories at least a few keywords of that currently playing song e.g. title, artist, or album, and then go to Playlist tab, select the playlist or add a playlist..., click on Edit, click on add song, search the song and add to Playlist, Click Done. Not easy.
I find this very time consuming. I expected to see iPod Touch have this as a very very basic feature.
My question: Is there a Product Enhancement Request already submitted about this? I had my iPod Touch with iOS 4 when I purchased it. Now I have iOS 5, no fix to this issue still.
It would be really really appeciated if Apple's Product Management Team could give us a heads up if this feature will ever be available.
    Kindest Regards

I second that.  I just use the "recently played" playlist as kind of a makeshift on-the-go playlist.  But to create a playlist from scratch, they've GOT to make it easier than scrolling through thousands of songs. I just don't create playlists on the ipod touch/iphone anymore.  I do it on iTunes and sync it to the device.
Maybe they think playlists are just too "old-school".  They have "cutting-edge" features (no doubt to appeal the younger folks) like play a song by saying the song name, yet they don't give you a basic feature like on-the-go playlisting.

  • Can you change the volume display at bottom of screen to the song time instead?

I have just bought a new Ipod Nano and really like it!  The only problem I'm having is when playing songs the bottom of the screen shows the volume level rather than how far it is through the song in time (like the old nanos used to show).  I find it really annoying not knowing at a quick glance how much more of a song is left to play.
I know this info is displayed by double tapping the screen (although it is only shown temporarily).  Is there a way of changing the volume level icon at the bottom of the screen to display the song time instead?
    Thanks in advance.

There is not.  You can let Apple know how you feel about it using the form on this page.
