Can I Charge iPhone 3G in My Stereo?

I have an Athena iVoice powered speaker with an iPod dock in it. Charges my iPod mini just fine, and it has a standard 30 pin dock connector. Can anyone tell me if I can charge the iPhone in this as well? Don't want to do anything that might harm the iPhone and the manufacturer's website unfortunately didn't have any information on it. Thanks!

Just stick it in, if it doens't support usb charging then the iPhone will say that charging is not supported. If it does support usb charging then you will still probably get a message saying the device is not certified for the iPhone.

I can't charge iPhone 3GS with computer or sync

I can't charge my iPhone with my computer, but the rest of my family can sync their iPods(two 2nd gens and one 4th gen) It works fine with the wall charger, so I know it's not the cord (Plus I've tried other cords). Also, I've tried switching the USB slot, using compressed air to see if it would clear out possible dust, trying a different computer, and many other tricks, plus completely restarting the iPhone. It wouldn't be a big deal if I could still sync it with the computer one last time so I could sync wirelessly from now on, but I can't.
Lastly, it is out of warranty and I did not purchase the iPhone so I don't even know if I could take it to the Apple Store to see if they could fix it.

Hi my iphone 3gs will sync when i connect to usb port, but it will not charge from my macbook, this is the first time i have tried it, since my 7 year old imac just died and used that for all my itunes and apple tv server any ideas ?

With the new A/V cable you get a USB port for charging during viewing.
The line out jack on the dock is for audio. You can dock your phone and have it hook up to your stereo or speakers.

No easy way to do it like on the EVO or droid X which both have HDMI mini out for that exact same purpose. Apple wants you to buy their overpriced cables instead and then only display it in 480p max. YAY thanks apple for taking 2 steps backwards. I think apple just adopted the HDMI format for the mac mini but before it was nothing but the old OUTDATED DVI connection, lame. Try this link below. I know there is an app called QIK video pro that will record videos and let you stream them over your wireless network.
If you have a pc and a ps3 you can download the videos you took on your iphone to your pc and stream them to your ps3 using a free program called tversity or just put the avi files on a thumbdrive and plug and play via your ps3 or the usb input on your tv as long as its in a format your pc can handle and display. Confusing yet?

Radio can't charge iPhone 3G

I have this great tabletop radio with an iPod cradle on top. It worked fantastic with my iPod touch. I was disappointed to see that when I sat my iPhone 3G in the cradle I got a message that the phone couldn't be charged by this device.
I guess the pin-outs have changed on the phone connector. Why would Apple change this and render my beautiful radio useless for charging?

I also have a plug-in charger that you plug the USB cable into. It worked fine on my iPod, but it's no good for the iPhone. No message that time. I left it on the charger thinking my phone was charging up, and the phone actually went dead completely.
Strange that the same USB cable from my iPod can charge the phone on my PC.

I really think Ives needs to be reigned in. It is ABSURD that the case and charging the phone are incompatible. The case is tight now but is unlikely to remain so if I pry it off every night to charge.

Perhaps your car stereo supports ipod and not iphone. Check with the manufacturer of your car stereo.

I just bought an iphone 3G and want to know if I can connect my iphone to my car stereo system (08 Nissan Altima Coupe w/factory Bose sound system) so I can listen to my downloaded music. I don't know if the you haver the same radio as my 08 Maxima but if you go to your local Nissan dealer you can get the iPod interface installed. Interface System for iPod® is not available for HYBRID models or models with factory navigation system. Or your radio should have the AUX jack that is in between the "Clock" and the "Scan" button and should say "AUX IN" if you have that then all you need is a 3.5MM wire (3.5mm to 3.5mm cable) example
