Can I charge iPhone with old iPod charger

I left my iPhone charger at work. Can I use the charger from the 2nd gen iPod?

Sure. I have an original 10G iPod and, after calling Apple Store help, was advised I could use the iPod charger. I've been doing so for at least a month. No problems. Good luck.

  • Iphone with 3G ipod charger?

Can I use the charger brick for my 3G ipod with my iphone?
The 3G brick is bigger than the phone brick, has a firewire connector instead of USB, and is marked with a different output voltage.
(Reason I'd like to do this is that I already own a dock cable with a dock connector and both USB and FireWire connectors. This would let me have plug-in charger power for when the computer is off (overnight) and constant USB connectivity when it's on, without having to swap cables. My computer has no FireWire inputs to let me use the FireWire for connectivity and USB for charging. I could buy a FW card but I'd prefer not to, my motherboard seems very picky about PCI cards)

NO. You noted that the iPod charger has a different output voltage than the (iPod) charger that came with your iPhone. You will be guaranteed to damage your iPhone if you use it.
    You have two choices:
    1. Use the wall charger at night. (Buy another one, which comes with another dock, and use the iPhone as an alarm clock.)
    2. Set your computer to not go into standby and let it charge the iPhone overnight. Check the battery level before you retire, if you haven't used the iPhone heavily during the day, and you have had it connected all evening, chances are it will be fully charged. Then you can put the computer on standby.

  • I accidentally synced my iPhone with old iPod settings and I can't get my old iPhone settings back, what can I do

I attached my new iPhone to my iTunes account for the first time and it came up with an option to sync my old iPod touch settings with my new iPhone. Thinking this would mean that it would transfer all my music and pictures from my old iPod to my new I clicked it. So now my iPhone is all screwed up with no music, no contacts, and my old pictures. How do I get it back to my old settings? Or at least clear everything and start over with my iPhone settings.

The first time you connect a new iPhone to iTunes that is used for syncing with another iPhone or iOS device, you are prompted to transfer the backup for the other iPhone or iOS device to the new iPhone or set up the new iPhone as a new iPhone or don't transfer the backup for the other iOS device. This is designed to be done right away with a new iPhone - not many hours or days later after significant use.
All iTunes content on your iPod Touch should be in your iTunes library on your computer. Whatever you had selected for transferring music with your iPod Touch now applies with your iPhone. If you had/have Sync Music selected under the Music tab for your iPod Touch sync preferences with iTunes, the same music in your iTunes library selected to be transferred to your iPod Touch should have been transferred to your iPhone. This occurs after the backup is transferred.   All content that was on your iPhone is now gone - replaced with the backup for your iPod Touch.
To start over as a new iPhone, you need to restore the iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from the backup. After the iOS is re-installed, select as a new iPhone for the restore option.

  • Ok to charge iPhone with iPod charger?

I was looking at the specs on both:
iPhone AC adapter: 5 volts @ 1 amp
iPod (5th gen) AC adapter: 12 volts @ 1 amp
Obviously considering the numbers don't match and the total power output is not the same (12 watts for ipod adapter and 5 watts for iPhone adapter), it is not good to charge the iPhone on the ipod adapter.
But I was wondering, can the iPhone handle it? Has anybody tried it?
Or do I have to keep charging the iPhone through the computer (I have no more outlets for the iPhone AC adapter to plug into)
The reason I am asking is that the iPhone is taking a long time to charge through the USB port on the computer. I plugged in to charge this afternoon and it is only about 80% done. This is the first time I am charging it since I got it though so that might be the cause.
    Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

OK, I give up. Which is the right answer?

The Ipod and iPhone chargers are the same. there is no problem using the ipod charger with the iPhone or the other way around. If anyone tells you that it's not ok you should ignore them cos they don't know what they are talking about.

The iPod chargers that use a USB type connection are fine. There are some very early iPods that used a firewire type connection. These should not be used with the iPhone.

  • Charge iPhone with iPod cable

I was wondering if I could charge and sync my iPhone with my iPod cable, allowing me to leave one at work, and one at home. I just got the CDMA iPhone, and I have the 5th generation Video iPod 30GB. I heard that there is a difference with amps or power or something. I don't want to mess up either batteries. I heard that maybe you can charge but not sync. I have found a bunch of different answers. Thanks.

The cables themselves are the same for the iPods, iPhones & the iPad. The power adapters may be different, but all of the USB cables are essentially the same.

  • Can the 3G shuffle be charged with an iPod charger?

  • I have charged my iphone with an ipad charger for about 4 months

I have charged my iphone with and ipad charger for about 4 months. On the bright side I always unplug my phone when it gets to a 100%
How much can my iphone's battery life be affected? The battery still works but less than when I just bought it, I don't know if it is because of the time I have been using the phone or because of the ipad's charger.

You will do no harm using the iPad charger
Apple give the iPad 12W charger compaitbility with ALL the iOS devices back to early iPods in fact the 4th generation a long way back
    You have nothing to fear

  • Is charging my ipad 1 with an ipod charger harmful

  • How can i transfer picture from old iPod to my computer

how can i transfer picture from old iPod to my computer

Are these pictures on your iPod no longer stored on your PC or in a backup somewhere?  If so, you'll need the help of third party software to assist you with the task of extracting the photos from your iPod to your PC.  Keep in mind that these synced photos are no longer in their full resolution, but instead are scaled down thumbnails of the original.
If you stored these photos in full resolution, see this article for instructions on copying them from your iPod back to your PC.
Use Disk Mode to copy photos from iPod
Once the photos are on your PC again, you can configure them to sync to your iPhone.

  • Can I sync iPhone with movies on another Mac?

My main computer is a PB but I do not have enough space to store movies on this machine. iTunes on this machine has all my music but my movies are on another Mac (G5) on my network. Is it possible to get iTunes on my PB to see movies on my G5 so that I can sync my iPhone with movies on that machine?
    Thanks
    Tony

Your iPhone and itunes on one machine have a unique connection. Device information is kept on your computer and will recognise that phone. To connect the phone to another machine will create a new unique connection between the two, and everything you sync will mirror that machine. You can try syncing with one machine, all your music and stuff but not movies and on the other machine uncheck all selections for syncing other than movies. So to summarise. Machine 1, sync all things except movies. and on machine 2 sync nothing but movies, leaving everything else unsynced. It may not work, but it's worth a try, it won't mess anything up.

If you do, you will lose all of your information on the phone. You can only sync to 1 itunes library at a time on 1 computer.
