It is not the charger that controls the rate of charge but the handset. If your handset battery meter needs calibrating you will need to take it to a service centre with a fully charged (16 hours plus) battery and it can be recalibrated.

I have had no problems since my purchase of my 4 gig nano.
I've only charged it once, waiting for the battey to fully discharge. No problem until yesterday.
Upon charging my nano (which againg was fully discharged) i plugged my nano into my Powerbook 550 via USB, to charge and create some new playlists. To my surprise itunes did not detect my ipod, and my ipod would not turn on while connected to my powerbook.
I figured the battery was not fully charged. Last night i left the nano plugged into my comp, to be charged over night. The display showed 1 bar on the battery and a lightning bolt over the display.
After 14 hours of charging overnight, the display still shows 1 bar on the battery and the lightning bolt. Now when I unplug the nano from the charger, the display shuts off and it is unable to turn on manually: pressing the select, play, holding down play, or even the reset menu + select button. All i get is the Apple screen then it goes to the batter - but only if the nano is plugged in.
I have updated my itunes, and the ipod nano drivers. I have downloaded songs onto my nano without any problems. The nano isn't detected on the system profiler also.

So I took my nano to the apple store. It turns out that the battery on my nano was completely discharged that the USB port on my Mac was unable to recharge it. The store tried the wall adapter to charge my nano...and wa laa! it started charging.
The store offered to replace my nano for a new one. But since the new iPod video came out, I asked for an upgrade to the new iPod.
Now I have an iPod video.
So, i guess the best way to fix a busted nano is to replace it with a new iPod.

so i plugged my ipod into one of those cheesy charge anything car adapters when it was on the wrong voltage setting. only took a few seconds before my ipod died, permanently... so i ordered a replacement battery and installed it... but for some reason it wont take a charge when i plug it into my comp... i figured the new battery was faulty so i got sneaky and popped the case off my girlfriends ipod and plugged my battery into it and connected it to my computer, and the **** thing turned on... so after my new battery was charged i took it out of my girlfriends and put it back into mine and it turned on... i was stoked, until i plugged it into my comp it said "battery low please connect to power source", beeped at me a few times and shut off. the battery has a full charge but it wont connect thru the usb cord to my computer or a wall charger... why cant my ipod connect anymore did i fry some internal circuitry as well as the battery... please offer any advice you might have im stumped and i cant just pull the case of my girlfriends ipod everytime i need a charge.

I assume by wrong voltage setting, you mean you had it set too high? Was it connected to your iPod through a USB connection?

IPhone not charging and using more battery power while on charger and getting hot

I have an iPhone 4 and have had issues with it charging. This has happened 3-4 times over the past few months, where I put it on the wall charger prior to going to sleep and wake up with 17-20% battery power. Last night I placed it on the charger with approximately 70% battery power. I believe it charged to 100%, I left it on the charger and when I woke this morning the phone was hot (hotter than charging it with the USB) and the power was at 17%. Any suggestions on what I can do to rectify this issue? After the iOS upgrade it did and I reset the phone, ran the power completely out and charged 100%. I don't have any more apps open than usual. Thanks for any help you can provide!

Having a similar problem with my 3G IPhone. Battery life is fine but once I plug it in to charge it won't charge. I have to reset my phone and then it will start to charge as long as I unplug it and then plug it in again. This problem is something that is intermittent. I reinstalled the firmware but the problem did not go away. Something that I have noticed is that when this takes place usually the GPS function cannot find my current location at the same time. Once the phone is rest the GPS is fine. The fact that I have reloaded the firmware and the problem has not gone away leads me to think that this is a hardware problem. Well we will see soon I am going to take it in to get checked out. This is sort of annoying but I love the IPhone it is great!!!!

Why do you want to replace a new one when the older ones doesn't last longer?
Don't waste your money on replacing the older ones, because you are supposed to buy a new one. These support people will never help!!!

Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

i do understand that, but frankly speaking, it takes approximately 3-4 hours to completely charge my phone from 1% to 100% (with 1A charger)
Comparatively, it would take less than one hour to top up my battery with 2.1A charger.
Hence, just thinking to myself that, "why didn't apple come with the 2.1A charger at the first place?"

Well, i know that apple has made a restriction for un-certified charger so that it wont cause problems for the device, but recently i found out that i can charge my IOS 7 device with an un-certified charger while the phone is off. does anybody try it out before? Power adaptor/charger, or cable? They are not one and the same.
I don't use a non-certified power adaptor or cable - I use a non-Apple cable with my vehicle charger but the charger and cable include the "made for iPhone" Apple certification. No problem.
Stick with an Apple adaptor/charger and/or cable or with an adaptor/charger and/or cable that includes the "made for iPhone" Apple certification and you won't have to worry about

It will not hurt it as long as you do not leave it on the charger for an extensive period of time (say, days).

You should be able to use the battery if you get a car type charger which recharges mobile devices.
The full size iPads use a 10-12W charger, whereas the mini uses a 5W charger. Many car chargers only supply 5W. But at 5W, the car charger should give you some extra time on your iPad. It would be best to use a 10-12W car charger.

I would like to know the answer to that one. I realized this was happening just after upgradeing my iOS to 6. Then when I looked up my purchase date, I was about 5 days past my one year warranty. So I'm dead in the water. Apple will replace the battery, but it will be about $80+. I took it to the Apple store, and they checked a bunch of stuff, but said that it seemed ok. I'm debating getting a battery for a more reasonable price off of ebay. But if it's the iOS thats draining the battery, then I'm not going to be able to help it. I wish I knew a better way to tell if its the battery, the phone, or the iOS.
